RESUMO

Digital quantum simulation relies on Trotterization to discretize time evolution into elementary quantum gates. On current quantum processors with notable gate imperfections, there is a critical trade-off between improved accuracy for finer time steps, and increased error rate on account of the larger circuit depth. We present an adaptive Trotterization algorithm to cope with time dependent Hamiltonians, where we propose a concept of piecewise "conserved" quantities to estimate errors in the time evolution between two (nearby) points in time; these allow us to bound the errors accumulated over the full simulation period. They reduce to standard conservation laws in the case of time independent Hamiltonians, for which we first developed an adaptive Trotterization scheme [H. Zhao et al., Making Trotterization adaptive and energy-self-correcting for NISQ devices and beyond, PRX Quantum 4, 030319 (2023).2691-339910.1103/PRXQuantum.4.030319]. We validate the algorithm for a time dependent quantum spin chain, demonstrating that it can outperform the conventional Trotter algorithm with a fixed step size at a controlled error.

RESUMO

Heating to high-lying states strongly limits the experimental observation of driving induced nonequilibrium phenomena, particularly when the drive has a broad spectrum. Here we show that, for entire families of structured random drives known as random multipolar drives, particle excitation to higher bands can be well controlled even away from a high-frequency driving regime. This opens a window for observing drive-induced phenomena in a long-lived prethermal regime in the lowest band.

RESUMO

Quantum many-body scars have been put forward as counterexamples to the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis. These atypical states are observed in a range of correlated models as long-lived oscillations of local observables in quench experiments starting from selected initial states. The long-time memory is a manifestation of quantum nonergodicity generally linked to a subextensive generation of entanglement entropy, the latter of which is widely used as a diagnostic for identifying quantum many-body scars numerically as low entanglement outliers. Here we show that by adding kinetic constraints to a fractionalized orthogonal metal, we can construct a minimal model with orthogonal quantum many-body scars leading to persistent oscillations with infinite lifetime coexisting with rapid volume-law entanglement generation. Our example provides new insights into the link between quantum ergodicity and many-body entanglement while opening new avenues for exotic nonequilibrium dynamics in strongly correlated multicomponent quantum systems.

The nonequilibrium quantum dynamics of closed many-body systems is a rich yet challenging field. While recent progress for periodically driven (Floquet) systems has yielded a number of rigorous results, our understanding on quantum many-body systems driven by rapidly varying but aperiodic and quasiperiodic driving is still limited. Here, we derive rigorous, nonperturbative, bounds on the heating rate in quantum many-body systems under Thue-Morse quasiperiodic driving and under random multipolar driving, the latter being a tunably randomized variant of the former. In the process, we derive a static effective Hamiltonian that describes the transient prethermal state, including the dynamics of local observables. Our bound for Thue-Morse quasiperiodic driving suggests that the heating time scales like (ω/g)^{-C ln(ω/g)} with a positive constant C and a typical energy scale g of the Hamiltonian, in agreement with our numerical simulations.

Driven quantum systems may realize novel phenomena absent in static systems, but driving-induced heating can limit the timescale on which these persist. We study heating in interacting quantum many-body systems driven by random sequences with n-multipolar correlations, corresponding to a polynomially suppressed low-frequency spectrum. For n≥1, we find a prethermal regime, the lifetime of which grows algebraically with the driving rate, with exponent 2n+1. A simple theory based on Fermi's golden rule accounts for this behavior. The quasiperiodic Thue-Morse sequence corresponds to the n→∞ limit and, accordingly, exhibits an exponentially long-lived prethermal regime. Despite the absence of periodicity in the drive, and in spite of its eventual heat death, the prethermal regime can host versatile nonequilibrium phases, which we illustrate with a random multipolar discrete time crystal.

The concept of quantum many-body scars has recently been put forward as a route to describe weak ergodicity breaking and violation of the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis. We propose a simple setup to generate quantum many-body scars in a doubly modulated Bose-Hubbard system which can be readily implemented in cold atomic gases. The dynamics are shown to be governed by kinetic constraints which appear via density-assisted tunneling in a high-frequency expansion. We find the optimal driving parameters for the kinetically constrained hopping which leads to small isolated subspaces of scared eigenstates. The experimental signatures and the transition to fully thermalizing behavior as a function of driving frequency are analyzed.

BACKGROUND: MiR-139-5p plays a significant role in tumorigenesis, metastasis and recurrence, suggesting that it may potentially be used as a promising biomarker for esophageal cancer diagnosis, prognosis and therapy. This study aimed to investigate the role and the mechanism of miRNA-139-5p in esophageal cancer. METHODS: This study included 11 patients from an area with a high incidence of esophageal cancer. The expression levels of miRNA-139-5p in esophageal cancer tissues and para-carcinoma tissues of 11 patients were measured. We examined the expression of miR-139-5p in serum obtained from 92 consecutive patients from Cixian, which is a region in Hebei Province with a high rate of histologically confirmed esophageal cancer. The expression of miR-139-5p in esophageal cancer cell lines was detected. In the KYSE150 cell line with the lowest expression level of miR-139-5p, we transfected a plasmid to upregulate the expression level and examined the role of miR-139-5p in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma proliferation, migration and invasion. We conducted a gene profiling study using miR-139-5p cell lines to detect the expression of significant genes related to tumor progression, including cyclinD1, E-cadherin and VEGFR-1. We then constructed luciferase reporters containing miR-139-5p, which contained wild-type (WT) or mutated-type (Mut) VEGFR-1 binding sites to investigate the target. RESULTS: MiRNA-139-5p expression levels in esophageal cancer tissues from 11 patients were significantly higher than those in para-carcinoma tissues. MiR-139-5p expression in the serum of 92 patients with esophageal cancer was associated with gender (P = 0.039) and TNM stage (P = 0.015). Factors that were not correlated with miR-139-5p expression were age (P = 0.293), smoking history (P = 0.397), length of tumor (P = 0.309), width of tumor (P = 0.296), depth of tumor (P = 0.724), lymphoma metastasis (P = 0.531) and postoperative therapy (P = 0.884). MiR-139-5p (P = 0.013) correlated significantly with observed survival rates. The lymphoma metastasis (P = 0.005) and TNM stage (P = 0.000) were significantly associated with observed survival rates. However, no significant relationships were found between the miR-139-5p and patient characteristics including gender, age, smoking history, tumor size and postoperative therapy. In the KYSE150 cell line, the expression level of miR-139-5p was the lowest. We transfected a plasmid to upregulate the expression level and found that the cell proliferation, metastasis and invasion abilities decreased. Upregulation of miR-139-5p inhibited the expression of Cyclin D1 and VEGFR-1 and increased the expression of E-cadherin. For further confirmation, we constructed luciferase reporters containing miR-139-5p, which contained wild-type (WT) or mutated-type (Mut) VEGFR-1 binding sites for target investigation. The results show that the corresponding VEGFR-1-Mut construct no longer suppressed miR-139-5p. CONCLUSIONS: MiR-139-5p may be a novel therapeutic target and prognostic biomarker of esophageal cancer.

A simple and rapid gas chromatography-flame photometric detection (GC-FPD) method was developed for the determination of 12 organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) in Salvia miltiorrhizae by using ultrasonication assisted one-step extraction (USAE) without any clean-up steps. Some crucial parameters such as type of extraction solvent were optimized to improve the method performance for trace analysis. Any clean-up steps were negligent as no interferences were detected in the GC-FPD chromatograms for sensitive detection. Under the optimized conditions, limits of detection (LODs) and quantitation (LOQs) for all pesticides were in the range of 0.001-0.002mg/kg and 0.002-0.01mg/kg and 0.002-0.01mg/kg, respectively, which were all below the regulatory maximum residue limits suggested. RSDs for method precision (intra- and inter-day variations) were lower than 6.8% in approval with international regulations. Average recovery rates for all pesticides at three fortification levels (0.5, 1.0 and 5.0mg/kg) were in the range of 71.2-101.0% with relative standard deviations (RSDs) <13%. The developed method was evaluated for its feasibility in the simultaneous pre-concentration and determination of 12 OPPs in 32 batches of real S. miltiorrhizae samples. Only one pesticide (dimethoate) out of the 12 targets was simultaneously detected in four samples at concentrations of 0.016-0.02mg/kg. Dichlorvos and omethoate were found in the same sample from Sichuan province at 0.004 and 0.027mg/kg, respectively. Malathion and monocrotophos were determined in the other two samples at 0.014 and 0.028mg/kg, respectively. All the positive samples were confirmed by LC-MS/MS. The simple, reliable and rapid USAE-GC-FPD method with many advantages over traditional techniques would be preferred for trace analysis of multiple pesticides in more complex matrices.

A rapid, stable, and sensitive method based on ultra-fast liquid chromatography combined with electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (UFLC-ESI-MS/MS) was established and optimized for quantification and pharmacokinetics analysis of chinensinaphthol methyl ether (CME) in rat urine. Samples were prepared by liquid phase extraction with ethyl acetate, and chromatographic separation was performed on an ACQUITY UPLC(®) BEH Phenyl column (2.1×50mm, 1.7µm). For gradient elution, we used a mobile phase consisting of water containing 0.1% formic acid and 5mmol/L ammonium formate and methanol with 0.1% formic acid. The quantification was executed under multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) in positive mode. The precursor/product transition (m/z) in the positive ion mode was [M+H](+)m/z=395.1→346.1. This method was validated by evaluating specificity, linearity, matrix effects, recovery, accuracy, precision, and stability, which were all shown to be reasonable and reliable. The lower limit of quantification (LOQ) was 0.5ng/mL, and the linear range was 0.5-100ng/mL. The method was successfully applied to quantify and analyze the pharmacokinetics of CME in rat urine. After oral administration of a single dose of CME (5.0mg/kg), the accumulated amount of CME excreted in urine was 162.3±54.1ng, and the terminal elimination half-life was 53.4±5.3h, indicating low CME excretion in urine and significant CME metabolism in vivo.

INTRODUCTION: Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (CRP) is a commonly-used traditional Chinese medicine with flavonoids as the major bioactive components. Nevertheless, the contents of the flavonoids in CRP of different sources may significantly vary affecting their therapeutic effects. Thus, the setting up of a reliable and comprehensive quality assessment method for flavonoids in CRP is necessary. OBJECTIVE: To set up a rapid and sensitive ultra-fast liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (UFLC-MS/MS) method for simultaneous quantification of seven bioactive flavonoids in CRP. METHODS: A UFLC-MS/MS method coupled to ultrasound-assisted extraction was developed for simultaneous separation and quantification of seven flavonoids including hesperidin, neohesperidin, naringin, narirutin, tangeretin, nobiletin and sinensetin in 16 batches of CRP samples from different sources in China. RESULTS: The established method showed good linearity for all analytes with correlation coefficient (R) over 0.9980, together with satisfactory accuracy, precision and reproducibility. Furthermore, the recoveries at the three spiked levels were higher than 89.71% with relative standard deviations (RSDs) lower than 5.19%. The results indicated that the contents of seven bioactive flavonoids in CRP varied significantly among different sources. Among the samples under study, hesperidin showed the highest contents in 16 samples ranged from 27.50 to 86.30 mg/g, the contents of hesperidin in CRP-15 and CRP-9 were 27.50 and 86.30 mg/g, respectively, while, the amount of narirutin was too low to be measured in some samples. CONCLUSION: This study revealed that the developed UFLC-MS/MS method was simple, sensitive and reliable for simultaneous quantification of multi-components in CRP with potential perspective for quality control of complex matrices. With the development of living condition, more and more people tend to show unique personality, thus hair dyes as hair cosmetics are highly favored. By the year 2012, the global sales of hair dye had exceeded $15 billion, with a sustained growth at a rate of 8%-10% annually. However, the harm caused by long-term use of hair dyes has aroused widespread public concern, so people begin to seek non-toxic or low toxic natural plant hair dyes. The types of commonly used hair dyes and the corresponding dyeing mechanisms were summarized in this manuscript, and the representative natural botanic dyes were listed. Thereafter, their effective fractions, constituents and application status were described. In addition, the values of botanic hair dyes and their broad market prospect were discussed. Finally, the problems that exist in the research and development of plant hair dyes were issued. This review may help to provide thought for developing novel, green and ecological natural plant hair dyes.

Mosquitoes are seriously harmful to human health for transmitting some mortal diseases. Among the methods of mosquito control, synthetical insecticides are the most popular. However, as a result of longterm use of these insecticides, high resistant mosquitos and heavy environmental pollution appear. Thus, eco-friendly prevention measures are taken into the agenda. Essential oils extracted from medicinal plants have repellent and smoked killing effects on mosquitoes. With abundant medical plants resources and low toxicity, they have the potential of being developed as a new type of mosquito and insect repellent agent. The recent application advances of essential oils of medicinal plants in insect repellent and its application limitations are overviewed. This review will provide references for the future development and in-depth study of essential oils.
