Understanding the relationship between emotion and learning behavior is conducive to learners' well-being and effective learning. However, previous studies only regarded emotion as an additional variable, and there lacked specific research on academic emotion in the blended learning (BL) context. BL is characterized by systematic integration of online and face-to-face (F2F) learning, hence leading to special emotional experiences. What is the emotional experience of learners in online learning? What is it like face-to-face? Does the connection between the two have an impact on learners' emotional experience? In order to address these questions and explore the emotional profiles of learners in BL context, this study constructs a typical BL context in a Chinese university, and conducts questionnaire and focus group interviews with 89 participants at the end of the semester. Data analysis showed that learners' emotions of face-to-face classes are more intense than those of online learning, both positive and negative. As to positive emotions, paired-sample t-test shows that mean values of feeling of challenge, comfort, sense of community, satisfaction, enthusiasm and interest in F2F are significantly higher than those of online learning. About negative emotions, stress, embarrassment, tension and frustration of F2F are significantly stronger than those of online learning, while boredom and disappointment of online learning are more intense than those for F2F section. Theme analysis identified 11 influencing factors of academic emotions, among which degree of difficulty, readiness before class, workload, and interaction are unique to BL and deserve special attention. These findings help form a picture of learners' academic emotions in BL context. It also provides practical reference for BL course design, so as to inspire emotions which are conducive to effective and in-depth learning.

OBJECTIVE: This study compared the effectiveness and safety of carbetocin and oxytocin in preventing postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). METHODS: A systematic literature search was performed on PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library for relevant studies published up to February 2019. Next, two independent reviewers screened the studies according to the selection criteria as well as the strategies recommended by the Cochrane Collaboration. Data were then extracted and evaluated. All statistical analyses were performed using RevMan 5.1. RESULTS: A total of 24 studies involving 37 383 patients were included for analysis. For cesarean section patients, carbetocin was superior to oxytocin in reduction of the need for additional uterine contraction (odds ratio [OR] = 0.48, 95% confidence interval [CI] [0.35, 0.65], p < 0.00001), PPH (OR = 0.70, 95% CI [0.51, 0.95], p = 0.02), blood loss (mean [MD] = -64.36, 95% CI [-107.78, -20.93], p = 0.004), and transfusion (OR = 0.59, 95% CI [0.42, 0.82], p = 0.002), and there was no significant difference in severe PPH (OR = 0.84, 95% CI [0.66, 1.090], p = 0.19). For vaginal delivery patients, carbetocin was superior to oxytocin in reduction of the need for additional uterine contractions (OR = 0.48, 95% CI [0.25, 0.93], p = 0.03), PPH (OR = 0.28, 95% CI [0.09, 0.91], p = 0.03), and blood loss (MD = -63.52, 95% CI [-113.43, -13.60], p = 0.01), and there were no significant differences in severe PPH (OR = 0.82, 95% CI [0.40, 1.69], p = 0.59) and transfusion (OR = 0.60, 95% CI [0.22, 1.61], p = 0.31). With regard to safety, for cesarean section patients, carbetocin was superior to oxytocin in reduction of the incidence of headache (OR = 0.72, [0.55, 0.95], p = 0.02), and there were no significant differences in nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, flushing, tremors, itching, dizziness, and fever. For vaginal delivery patients, there were no significant differences in nausea, vomiting, headache, abdominal pain, flushing, tremors, itching, dizziness, and fever between the two drugs. CONCLUSION: For patients undergoing cesarean section and vaginal delivery, carbetocin was superior to oxytocin in effectiveness and similar in safety. Therefore, carbetocin is expected to be an alternative uterine contraction agent for preventing PPH.

OBJECTIVES: Static magnetic fields (SMF) have been proved to enhance osteogenic differentiation in mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). However, the effect of SMF on mandibular condylar chondrocytes (MCCs) are less investigated, which contributes to the vertical formation of mandible. The purpose of the present study was to identify whether SMF accelerate the osteogenesis on mature condylar cartilage and explore the potential regulatory mechanism. METHODS: In this study, we presented a 280 mT SMF stimulation set-up to investigate the genomic effects of SMF exposure on MCCs differentiation and osteoblast-related factor secretion in vitro. Induced by Oricell™ for osteogenesis, MCCs from primary SD Rat were stimulated with or without SMF for cell culture. Cell proliferation was determined by CCK-8. The enhanced osteogenetic capacity of the SMF stimulated MCCs was identified by Alizarin red staining (ARS). Additionally, the effects of SMF on the expression of transmembrane protein marker (FLRT3), terminal differentiation markers (BMP2), and transcription factors (Smad1/5/8) were quantified by Western blot and immunofluorescence analysis. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, SMF decreased the proliferation of MCCs (p < 0.05) after 14 days osteogenesis-specific induction. The mineral synthesis of MCCs was upregulated by SMF (p < 0.0001). The expression of BMP2, Smad1/5/8 showed decrease trends while the protein level of FLRT3 acted in contrary manner (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings emphasized the ability of osteogenesis positively respond to SMF stimulation by exhibiting enhanced differentiation via FLRT/BMP signaling.

Temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJ-OA), mainly exhibit extracellular matrix loss and condylar cartilage degradation, is the most common chronic and degenerative maxillofacial osteoarthritis; however, no efficient therapy for TMJ-OA exists due to the poor understanding of its pathological progression. MicroRNA (miR)-140-5p is a novel non-coding microRNAs (miRNAs) that expressed in osteoarthritis specifically. To investigate the molecular mechanisms of miR-140-5p in TMJ-OA, primary mandibular condylar chondrocytes (MCCs) from C57BL/6N mice were treated with interleukins (IL)-1ß or transfected with miR-140-5p mimics or inhibitors, respectively. The expression of matrix metallopeptidase (MMP)-13, miR-140-5p, nuclear factor (NF)-kB, Smad3 and transforming growth factor (TGF)-ß3 were examined by western blotting or quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The interaction between the potential binding sequence of miR-140-5p and the 3'-untranslated region (3'UTR) of Smad3 mRNA was testified by dual-luciferase assay. Small Interfering RNA of Smad3 (Si-Smad3) was utilized to further identify the role of Smad3 mediated by miR-140-5p. The data showed MMP13, miR-140-5p and NF-kB increased significantly in response to IL-1ß inflammatory response in MCCs, meanwhile, Smad3 and TGF-ß3 reduced markedly. Moreover, transfection of miR-140-5p mimics significantly suppressed the expression of Smad3 and TGF-ß3 in MCCs, while miR-140-5p inhibitors acted in a converse manner. As the luciferase reporter of Smad3 mRNA observed active interaction with miR-140-5p, Smad3 was identified as a direct target of miR-140-5p. Additionally, the expression of TGF-ß3 was regulated upon the activation of Smad3. Together, these data suggested that miR-140-5p may play a role in regulating mandibular condylar cartilage homeostasis and potentially serve as a novel prognostic factor of TMJ-OA-like pathology.
