RESUMO

Increasing concerns about air quality due to fossil fuel combustion, especially nitrogen oxides (NOx) from marine and diesel engines, necessitate advanced monitoring systems due to the significant health and environmental impacts of nitrogen dioxide (NO2). In this study, a gas detection system based on the principle of the non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) technique is proposed. Firstly, the pyroelectric detector was developed by employing an ultra-thin LiTaO3 (LT) layer as the sensitive element, integrated with nanoscale carbon material prepared by wafer-level graphics technology as the infrared absorption layer. Then, the sensor was hermetically sealed using inert gas through energy storage welding technology, exhibiting a high detectivity (D*) value of 4.19 × 108 cm·âˆšHz/W. Subsequently, a NO2 gas sensor was engineered based on the NDIR principle employing a Micro Electro Mechanical System (MEMS) infrared (IR) emitter, featuring a light path chamber length of 1.5 m, along with integrated signal processing and software calibration algorithms. This gas sensor was capable of detecting NO2 concentrations within the range of 0-500 ppm. Initial tests indicated that the gas sensor exhibited a full-scale relative error of less than 0.46%, a limit of 2.8 ppm, a linearity of -1.09%, a repeatability of 0.47% at a concentration of 500 ppm, and a stability of 2% at a concentration of 500 ppm. The developed gas sensor demonstrated significant potential for application in areas such as industrial monitoring and analytical instrumentation.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Although there have been studies on the association of handgrip strength or walking speed alone with cognitive abilities, few studies have determined the combined associations of handgrip strength and walking speed with cognitive function. Therefore we aimed to explore the independent and combined associations of handgrip strength and walking speed with cognitive function in Chinese older adults using a nationally representative sample. METHOD: This cross-sectional study included 4,577 adults aged 60 and older. Handgrip strength was measured using a dynamometer and walking speed was assessed using a 2.5-meter walking test. Both handgrip strength and walking speed were organized into low, normal, and high tertiles according to the sample distribution. Cognitive function was measured using the Telephone Interview for Cognitive Status. RESULTS: Handgrip strength and walking speed were significantly associated with cognitive function. Participants with low handgrip strength or low walking speed separately had a higher rate of lower cognitive function (adjusted odds ratio (OR): 1.22 (95% CI: 1.04 - 1.44) for low handgrip strength; 1.54 (95% CI: 1.31 - 1.81) for low walking speed). Those with both low handgrip strength and low walking speed had an additively higher rate of lower cognitive function (adjusted OR: 1.72 (95% CI: 1.32 - 2.24)). CONCLUSION: Having low handgrip strength or low walking speed is associated with a greater likelihood of lower cognitive function and vice versa. The concurrence of having low handgrip strength and low walking speed has an additive effect on cognitive function in older adults.

RESUMO

Video-based referring expression comprehension is a challenging task that requires locating the referred object in each video frame of a given video. While many existing approaches treat this task as an object-tracking problem, their performance is heavily reliant on the quality of the tracking templates. Furthermore, when there is not enough annotation data to assist in template selection, the tracking may fail. Other approaches are based on object detection, but they often use only one adjacent frame of the key frame for feature learning, which limits their ability to establish the relationship between different frames. In addition, improving the fusion of features from multiple frames and referring expressions to effectively locate the referents remains an open problem. To address these issues, we propose a novel approach called the Multi-Stage Image-Language Cross-Generative Fusion Network (MILCGF-Net), which is based on one-stage object detection. Our approach includes a Frame Dense Feature Aggregation module for dense feature learning of adjacent time sequences. Additionally, we propose an Image-Language Cross-Generative Fusion module as the main body of multi-stage learning to generate cross-modal features by calculating the similarity between video and expression, and then refining and fusing the generated features. To further enhance the cross-modal feature generation capability of our model, we introduce a consistency loss that constrains the image-language similarity and language-image similarity matrices during feature generation. We evaluate our proposed approach on three public datasets and demonstrate its effectiveness through comprehensive experimental results.

RESUMO

Three-dimensional (3D) porous carbon materials have great potential for fabricating flexible tunable broadband absorbers owing to their high electrical conductivity, strong dielectric loss, and unique microstructure. Herein, we introduce an innovative method for synthesizing 3D porous graphene that incorporates advanced tuning and encapsulation processes to augment its functional efficacy. Through the modulation of both thermal and nonthermal interactions between a femtosecond (fs) laser and a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) film, we have synergistically fine-tuned the surface morphology and lattice properties of 3D porous graphene. This approach enabled us to create a flexible terahertz (THz) absorber with customizable characteristics, boasting an impressive absorbance range of 80%-99% in the 0.4-1.0 THz spectrum, alongside a peak reflection loss (RL) of up to 35.6 dB. Furthermore, we have successfully demonstrated the production of photoinduced 3D porous graphene within a PDMS film, which serves as both a carbon precursor and protective layer. This simplifies the conventional packaging process. These devices exhibit a RL of up to 41.6 dB and an absorption bandwidth of 2.5 THz (0.6-3.1 THz). Our study presents a production methodology for high-performance, flexible THz absorbers, offering a straightforward and innovative solution for the rapid development of sophisticated, flexible THz absorbing materials.

RESUMO

Eutectic electrolytes show potential beyond conventional low-concentration electrolytes (LCEs) in zinc (Zn)-ion capacitors (ZICs) yet suffer from high viscosity and sluggish kinetics. Herein, we originally develop an intrinsically decoupling strategy to address these issues, producing a novel electrolyte termed "quasi-eutectic" electrolyte (quasi-EE). Joint experimental and theoretical analyses confirm its unique solution coordination structure doped with near-LCE domains. This enables the quasi-EE well inherit the advanced properties at deep-eutectic states while provide facilitated kinetics as well as lower energy barriers via a vehicle/hopping-hybridized charge transfer mechanism. Consequently, a homogeneous electroplating pattern with much enhanced Sandꞌs time is achieved on the Zn surface, followed by a twofold prolonged service-life with drastically reduced concentration polarization. More encouragingly, the quasi-EE also delivers increased capacitance output in ZICs, which is elevated by 12.4%-144.6% compared to that before decoupling. Furthermore, the pouch cell with a cathodic mass loading of 36.6 mg cm-2 maintains competitive cycling performances over 600 cycles, far exceeding other Zn-based counterparts. This work offers fresh insights into eutectic decoupling and beyond.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Identifying treatment targets for sarcopenia is a public health concern. This study aimed to examine the association of nocturnal sleep duration and midday napping with the presence of sarcopenia in middle-aged and older adults, utilizing data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study in 2011 and 2015. METHODS: A sum of 7,926 individuals (≥40 years) took part in this study. Sarcopenia was diagnosed according to the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia. A self-reported questionnaire was used to collect data on nocturnal sleep duration and midday napping. Nocturnal sleep duration was categorized into three groups: short sleepers (<6 h), normal sleepers (6-8 h), and long sleepers (>8 h). Midday napping was coded as a dichotomous outcome (yes/no). RESULTS: The incidence of sarcopenia was 5.3% during the 4-year follow-up. Short sleep duration (<6 h) was substantially linked to an increased incidence of sarcopenia (OR: 1.50, 95% CI: 1.21-1.87) as compared to nocturnal sleep length (6-8 h). Adults with midday napping had a lower risk of developing sarcopenia than non-nappers (OR: 0.78, 95% CI: 0.63-0.95). We further found that short sleepers with midday napping did not have a significantly higher risk of subsequent diagnosis of sarcopenia compared to normal sleepers without midday napping. CONCLUSION: These findings imply that short sleep duration in middle-aged and older persons is related to an increased incidence of sarcopenia. However, the adverse effect of short sleep duration on sarcopenia can be compensated by midday napping.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Single domain antibody fragments (sdAbs) are an appealing scaffold for radiopharmaceutical development due to their small size (~15 kDa), high solubility, high stability, and excellent tumor penetration. Previously, we developed NB7 sdAb, which has very high affinity for an epitope on PSMA that is different from those targeted by small molecule PSMA inhibitors. Herein, we evaluated NB7 after radioiodination using [*I]SGMIB (1,3,4-isomer) and iso-[*I]SGMIB (1,3,5-isomer), as well as their 211At-labeled analogues. METHODS: [*I]SGMIB, iso-[*I]SGMIB, [211At]SAGMB, and iso-[211At]SAGMB conjugates of NB7 sdAb were synthesized and their binding affinity, cell uptake and internalization were assessed in PSMA+ PC3 PIP and PSMA- PC3 flu cells. Biodistribution studies were performed in mice bearing PSMA+ PC3 PIP xenografts. First, a single-label experiment evaluated the tissue distribution of a NB7 bearing a His6-tag (NB7H6) and labeled with iso-[125I]SGMIB. Three paired-label experiments then were performed to compare: a) NB7 labeled using [*I]SGMIB and iso-[*I]SGMIB, b) 131I- vs 211At-labeled NB7 conjugates and c) [125I]SGMIB-NB7H6 to the small molecule PSMA inhibitor [131I]YF2. RESULTS: All NB7 radioconjugates bound specifically to PSMA with dissociation constants, Kd, in the low nM range (1.4-6.4 nM). An initial biodistribution study demonstrated good tumor uptake for iso-[125I]SGMIB-NB7H6 (7.2 ± 1.5 % ID/g at 1 h) and no deleterious effect of the His6-tag on renal activity levels, which declined to 3.1 ± 1.1 % ID/g by 4 h. Paired-label biodistribution found no distinction between the two SGMIB isomer NB7 conjugates with the [131I]SGMIB-NB7-to-iso-[125I]SGMIB-NB7 tumor uptake ratios not significantly different from unity: 1.06 ± 0.08 at 1 h, 1.04 ± 0.12 at 4 h, and 1.07 ± 0.09 at 24 h. Both isomer conjugates cleared rapidly from normal tissues and exhibited very low uptake in thyroid, lacrimal and salivary glands. Paired-label biodistribution of [131I]SGMIB-NB7H6 and [211At]SAGMB-NB7H6 demonstrated similar tumor uptake and kidney clearance for the two radioconjugates. However, levels of 211At in thyroid, stomach, salivary and lacrimal glands were significantly higher (P < 0.05) that those for 131I suggesting greater dehalogenation for [211At]SAGMB-NB7H6. Finally, co-administration of [125I]SGMIB-NB7H6 and [131I]YF2 demonstrated good tumor uptake for both with considerably more rapid renal clearance for the NB7 radioconjugate. CONCLUSION: NB7 radioconjugates exhibited good accumulation in PSMA-positive xenografts with rapid clearance from kidney and other normal tissues. We conclude that NB7 is a potentially useful scaffold for developing PSMA-targeted theranostics with different characteristics than current small molecule and antibody-based approaches.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The incidence of primary liver cancer (PLC) has experienced a significant global increase, primarily attributed to the rise in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Unfortunately, HCC is often diagnosed in advanced stages, leaving patients with limited treatment options. Therefore, transformation therapy is a crucial approach for long-term survival and radical resection in patients with advanced HCC. Conversion therapy has demonstrated promise in the treatment of advanced HCC. When integrated with the FOLFOX regimen, hepatic artery infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) can significantly improve tumor response efficiency, leading to high conversion and resection rates. AREAS COVERED: We reviewed landmark trials of HAIC in combination with different drugs or means for the treatment of HCC to determine the clinical value of HAIC-centric translational therapies in HCC treatment. Furthermore, we specifically emphasize the advantages associated with employing FOLFOX-HAIC in the treatment of advanced HCC. EXPERT OPINION: The combination of HAIC with the FOLFOX regimen can help prevent the low intratumoral accumulation and high adverse reaction rate caused by the FOLFOX alone, holding significant potential in the comprehensive treatment of future HCC patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Physical activity (PA) plays an important role in the process of several chronic diseases. It may be also associated with the incidence of sarcopenia. This study aimed to determine the association of PA from different components including frequency, duration, intensity, and volume with the incidence of sarcopenia in middle-aged and older adults. METHODS: This study used data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study in 2011 and 2015. A total of 3,760 individuals aged ≥ 40 years were involved in this study. Sarcopenia was diagnosed using muscle mass, strength and physical performance according to the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia. PA information including frequency, duration, intensity, and volume was obtained by a self-reported questionnaire. Logistic regression analysis was employed to examine the association between PA and the incidence of sarcopenia at 4-year follow-up. RESULTS: The incidence of sarcopenia was 5.9% during the 4-year follow-up. Compared to sedentary individuals, those taking 1-2 days or more per week, or a minimum of 10 min each time on vigorous-intensity PA (VPA) had a lower incidence of sarcopenia. Adults spending 3 days or more each week, a minimum of 30 min each time, or 150 min or more per week on moderate-intensity PA (MPA) had a lower presence of sarcopenia than sedentary adults. Adults taking 3 days or more per week, at least 30 min each time, or 150 min or more each week on light-intensity PA (LPA) tended to have a lower incidence of sarcopenia than sedentary individuals. Sensitivity analyses confirmed the robustness of the findings after removing persons with hypertension, dyslipidemia, or diabetes. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that the frequency, duration, and volume of VPA or MPA are negatively associated with the presence of sarcopenia. Participation in LPA tends to have a lower incidence of sarcopenia in middle-aged and older adults.

RESUMO

The CO oxidation catalytic activity of catalysts is strongly influenced by the oxygen vacancy defects (OVDs) concentration and the valence state of active metal. Herein, a defect engineering approach was implemented to enhance the oxygen vacancy defects and to modify the valence of metal ions in manganese oxide octahedral molecular sieves (OMS-2) by the introduction of copper (Cu). The characterization and theoretical calculation results reveal that the incorporation of Cu2+ ion into the OMS-2 structure led to a rise in specific surface area and pore volume, weakening of Mn-O bonds, higher proportion of the low-coordinated oxygen species adsorbed in oxygen vacancies (Oads) and an increase in the average oxidation state of manganese. These structural modifications were discovered to considerably reduce the apparent activation energy (Ea), thus ultimately significantly enhancing the CO oxidation activity (T99 at 148 ℃at GHSV = 13,200 h-1) than the original OMS-2 (T99 = 215 ℃ at GHSV = 13,200 h-1). Furthermore, In-situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) and In-situ near-ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (in situ NAP-XPS) results indicate that the bimetallic synergy enhanced by doping strategy accelerates the conversion of oxygen to chemisorbed oxygen species and the reaction rate of CO oxidation through Mn3++Cu2+↔Mn4++Cu+ redox cycle. The findings of this study offer novel perspectives on the design of catalysts with exceptional performance in CO oxidation.

RESUMO

This study examined the separate and combined associations of obesity and handgrip strength with cognitive function in older adults. In total 4,839 older adults were included in this cross-sectional study, and their body mass index (BMI) and handgrip strength were measured. Cognitive function was evaluated using the Telephone Interview for Cognitive Status. Three individual categories were created for BMI (normal weight: 18.5≤ BMI < 24.0 kg/m2 overweight: 24.0≤ BMI < 28.0 kg/m2 and obesity: BMI ≥ 28.0 kg/m2 and handgrip strength (low, normal, and high tertiles), and then these categories were pooled together. Logistic regression analyses were used to examine the individual and combined associations of obesity and handgrip strength with cognitive function. Results indicated that overweight adults had a lower rate of lower cognitive function than normal weight adults. There was an inverse association between handgrip strength and cognitive function. Participants with overweight and high handgrip strength had a lower likelihood of lower cognitive function compared to those with normal weight and normal handgrip strength. The findings suggested that overweight or high handgrip strength was associated with lower odds of cognitive decline. Moreover, the concurrence of overweight and high handgrip strength had an additive effect on cognitive function in older adults.

RESUMO

Actuators play a crucial role in microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and hold substantial potential for applications in various domains, including reconfigurable metamaterials. This research aims to design, fabricate, and characterize structures for the actuation of the EMA. The electromagnetic actuator overcomes the lack of high drive voltage required by other actuators. The proposed actuator configuration comprises supporting cantilever beams with fixed ends, an integrated coil positioned above the cantilever's movable plate, and a permanent magnet located beneath the cantilever's movable plate to generate a static magnetic field. Utilizing flexible polyimide, the fabrication process of the EMA is simplified, overcoming limitations associated with silicon-based micromachining techniques. Furthermore, this approach potentially enables large-scale production of EMA, with displacement reaching up to 250 µm under a 100 mA current, thereby expanding their scope of applications in manufacturing. To demonstrate the function of the EMA, we integrated it with a metamaterial structure to form a compact, tunable terahertz absorber, demonstrating a potential for reconfigurable electromagnetic space.

RESUMO

In recent decades, the tetracycline (TC) concentration in aquatic ecosystems has gradually increased, leading to water pollution problems. Various mineral adsorbents for the removal of tetracyclines have garnered considerable attention. However, efficient adsorbents suitable for use in a wide pH range environment have rarely been reported. Herein, a phytolith-rich adsorbent (PRADS) was prepared by a simple one-step alkali-activated pyrolysis treatment using phytolith as a raw material for effectively removing TC. PRADS, benefiting from its porous structure, which consists of acid- and alkali-resistant, fast-adsorbing macroporous silica and mesoporous carbon, is highly desirable for efficient TC removal from wastewater. The results indicate that PRADS exhibited excellent adsorption performance and stability for TC over a wide pH range of 2.0-12.0 under the coexistence of competing ions, which could be attributed to the fact that PRADS has a porous structure and contains abundant oxygen-containing functional groups and a large number of bonding sites. The adsorption mechanisms of PRADS for TC were mainly attributed to pore filling, hydrogen bonding, π-π electron-donor-acceptor, and electrostatic interactions. This work could offer a novel preparation strategy for the effective adsorption of pollutants by new functionalized phytolith adsorbents.

RESUMO

The spikes of gramineous plants are composed of specialized units called spikelets. Two bracts at the spikelet bases are known as glumes. The spikelet glumes in barley are degenerated into threadlike structures. Here, we report a long glume mutant, lgm1, similar in appearance to a lemma with a long awn at the apex. Map-based cloning showed that the mutant lgm1 allele has an approximate 1.27 Mb deletion of in chromosome 2H. The deleted segment contains five putative high-confidence genes, among which HORVU.MOREX.r3.2HG0170820 encodes a C2H2 zinc finger protein, an ortholog of rice NSG1/LRG1 and an important candidate for the Lgm1 allele. Line GA01 with a long glume and short awn was obtained in progenies of crosses involving the lgm1 mutant. Interestingly, lsg1, a mutant with long glumes on lateral spikelets, was obtained in the progenies of the lgm1 mutant. The long glume variant increased the weight of kernels in the lateral spikelets and increased kernel uniformity across the entire spike, greatly improving the potential of six-rowed barley for malting. RESUMO

AIM: This study investigated the prevalence of possible sarcopenia (PSA) in a large sample of middle-aged and older adults, and determined the association between PSA, major chronic diseases and the number of chronic diseases. METHODS: A total of 14 917 adults aged ≥40 years were included in the analysis. The handgrip strength and the five-time chair stand test were used to assess PSA. The participants' major chronic diseases were divided into 14 categories. Four categories were created based on the participants' number of chronic illnesses: 0, 1, 2 and ≥3. RESULTS: The present study found an overall prevalence of PSA of 23.6% among Chinese middle-aged and older adults aged ≥40 years, with the risk increasing with advancing age. PSA was significantly associated with most categories of chronic diseases and multimorbidity. The closely independent associations were obtained for stroke; emotional, nervous or psychiatric problems; chronic lung disease, asthma, heart disease, hypertension and arthritis or rheumatism. Compared with participants with 0 chronic disease, those with two or more chronic diseases had higher odds for PSA. However, the association between PSA and the number of chronic diseases varied in different sex and age groups. CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest that PSA is associated with major chronic diseases among middle-aged and older adults. People with two or more chronic diseases have a greater likelihood of PSA compared with those without chronic diseases, and the association between PSA and the number of chronic diseases largely depended on sex and age. RESUMO

Fully stimulating the capacity of light-driven phase change materials (PCMs) for efficient capture, conversion, and storage solar energy requires an ingenious combination of PCMs, supporting structural materials, and photothermal materials, therefore motivating the synergistic effects between the components. Herein, this work thoroughly explores the interaction forces between PCMs and supporting structural materials and the synergy between PCMs and photothermal materials in photothermal conversion. Rejoicingly, when capitalizing on the prepared directional channel structure of hierarchically porous composite aerogel (PEPG) as a supporting structural material, a superior paraffin wax (PW) encapsulation rate of 85.11% is achieved, and the prepared PEPG2-PW has a high phase change enthalpy of 182.9 J/g. The van der Waals force and Lewis acid-base action between PEPG and PW molecules reveal the excellent stabilities of PEPG-PW. More importantly, the PEPG2-PW has an ultrahigh photothermal conversion efficiency of 95.2% under 1 sun irradiation and durability. Most importantly, the COMSOL Multiphysics software calculations demonstrate that transparent PW can anchor sunlight on the surface of graphite nanoplates, converting it into heat by enhancing the loss of graphite backbone lattice vibrations, and the accumulated heat is then stored in molten PW. This work provides some design principles for high-efficiency solar-thermal conversion materials.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to examine the associations of social support factors with leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) of older people in Fuwen village. A cross-sectional study included 523 randomly selected elderly people (60+ years) whose LTPA levels were determined using the shortened version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ-S). A modified version of the Physical Activity Social Support Scale (PASSS) was operated to gather perceived scores of the social support factors. A multivariate linear regression was performed to locate associations of perceived scores of social supports with leisure-time walking (LTW) and moderate and vigorous physical activity (MVPA). The results indicated that social support from family was positively and significantly related to LTW and MVPA in both models. The community factor was positively and significantly correlated with MVPA in both models. The sport club factor was related to LTW and MVPA to some extent. The results suggest that social support from family is the most important motivator for older people's LTW and MVPA in the village of Fuwen. Social support from the community is the motivator for older people's MVPA. The sport club factor has some effects on older people's LTW and MVPA as well. More future studies are needed to extend the database of the relationship between social support and rural older people's physical activity.

RESUMO

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) and equipment heat dissipation problems are becoming increasingly prominent in advanced applications such as modern wireless communications, driverless cars, and portable devices. Multifunctional composites with efficient energy storage, conversion, and microwave absorption are urgently needed. We reported an effective strategy to construct attapulgite (ATP), carbon nanotubes (CNT), and NiCo alloys composite mineral microspheres (ACNC). Urchin-like TiO2 was coated on the surface of ACNC to form composite microspheres (ACNCT), which was compounded with paraffin (P-ACNCT) to prepare thermal energy storage and microwave absorption integrated material. The urchin-like TiO2 morphology possesses unique advantages in encapsulating paraffin. The results show that the melting and solidification enthalpy of the P-ACNCT reaches 111.6 J/g and 108.1 J/g, respectively, which indicates excellent thermal energy storage capacity. Combining a dielectric TiO2 shell with a magnetic composite microsphere core can produce a core-shell microsphere mechanism that allows for adjustable reflection loss and promotes impedance matching. The effective microwave absorption bandwidth of P-ACNCT can reach 5.76 GHz when the thickness is only 1.6 mm in the 2-18 GHz range. P-ACNCT is significant for synchronous microwave absorption and thermal energy regulation of advanced electronic equipment.

RESUMO

Based on previous researches, we further investigated the multi-silique trait in rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) line zws-ms. In this study, we used a relatively comprehensive list of flowering related genes in rapeseed and compared them between zws-ms and its near-isogenic line (NIL) zws-217. Genes were studied on genome, transcriptome and proteome levels and then we focused on genes with non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) or frame-shift insertion-deletion (InDel), finding some genes on the list which changes their sequences. Then, combined with their annotation and the information of their orthologs, certain genes such as BnaA09g05900D, ortholog of AGAMOUS-LIKE 42 (AGL42), which encodes an MADS-box protein, were assumed as probably responsible for the multi-silique trait. Also, we analyzed the Differentially Accumulated Proteins (DAPs) between zws-ms and zws-217, revealing some genes involved in homologous recombination and mismatch repair pathways. Since the development of flowers/siliques is crucial to crops and it influences the yield of rapeseed, this study paved a way to deeply understand the mechanism of the multi-pistil flower formation, which may facilitate researches on rapeseed production in future.

RESUMO

The ATP-adenosine pathway has emerged as a promising target for cancer therapy, but challenges remain in achieving effective tumor control. Early research focused on blocking the adenosine generating enzyme CD73 and the adenosine receptors A2AR or A2BR in cancer. However, recent studies have shown that targeting CD39, the rate-limiting ecto-enzyme of the ATP-adenosine pathway, can provide more profound anti-tumor efficacy by reducing immune-suppressive adenosine accumulation and increasing pro-inflammatory ATP levels. In addition, combining CD39 blocking antibody with PD-1 immune checkpoint therapy may have synergistic anti-tumor effects and improve patient survival. This review will discuss the immune components that respond to CD39 targeting in the tumor microenvironment. Targeting CD39 in cancer has been shown to not only decrease adenosine levels in the tumor microenvironment (TME), but also increase ATP levels. Additionally, targeting CD39 can limit the function of Treg cells, which are known to express high levels of CD39. With phase I clinical trials of CD39 targeting currently underway, further understanding and rational design of this approach for cancer therapy are expected.
