RESUMO

Background: Growing evidence suggests that gait training can improve stroke patients' balance outcomes. However, it remains unclear which type of gait training is more effective in improving certain types of balance outcomes in patients with stroke. Thus, this network meta-analysis (NMA) included six types of gait training (treadmill, body-weight-supported treadmill, virtual reality gait training, robotic-assisted gait training, overground walking training, and conventional gait training) and four types of balance outcomes (static steady-state balance, dynamic steady-state balance, proactive balance, and balance test batteries), aiming to compare the efficacy of different gait training on specific types of balance outcomes in stroke patients and determine the most effective gait training. Method: We searched PubMed, Embase, Medline, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases from inception until 25 April 2022. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of gait training for the treatment of balance outcomes after stroke were included. RoB2 was used to assess the risk of bias in the included studies. Frequentist random-effects network meta-analysis (NMA) was used to evaluate the effect of gait training on four categories of balance outcomes. Result: A total of 61 RCTs from 2,551 citations, encompassing 2,328 stroke patients, were included in this study. Pooled results showed that body-weight-support treadmill (SMD = 0.30, 95% CI [0.01, 0.58]) and treadmill (SMD = 0.25, 95% CI [0.00, 0.49]) could improve the dynamic steady-state balance. Virtual reality gait training (SMD = 0.41, 95% CI [0.10, 0.71]) and body-weight-supported treadmill (SMD = 0.41, 95% CI [0.02, 0.80]) demonstrated better effects in improving balance test batteries. However, none of included gait training showed a significant effect on static steady-state balance and proactive balance. Conclusion: Gait training is an effective treatment for improving stroke patients' dynamic steady-state balance and balance test batteries. However, gait training had no significant effect on static steady-state balance and proactive balance. To achieve maximum efficacy, clinicians should consider this evidence when recommending rehabilitation training to stroke patients. Considering body-weight-supported treadmill is not common for chronic stroke patients in clinical practice, the treadmill is recommended for those who want to improve dynamic steady-state balance, and virtual reality gait training is recommended for those who want to improve balance test batteries. Limitation: Missing evidence in relation to some types of gait training is supposed to be taken into consideration. Moreover, we fail to assess reactive balance in this NMA since few included trials reported this outcome. Systematic Review Registration: PROSPERO, identifier CRD42022349965.

RESUMO

Glucoraphanin is an important glucosinolate which is widely distributed in Brassica vegetables and poses an anticancer effect to humans. Although researchers have paid a lot of attention to the changes in glucoraphanin concentration in seedlings of broccoli over 1-2 weeks, there has been little research focusing on the total whole-sprout glucoraphanin content within broccoli seedlings over 1-5 weeks. However, it is necessary to clarify the changes in total glucoraphanin content during the broccoli sprouting stage as broccoli seedlings are novel plant foods. This research explored glucoraphanin absolute accumulation and the biosynthesis mechanism in broccoli seedlings during a 5-week growth period. The results showed that glucoraphanin accumulation content was higher at week 4 than in the seeds. Moreover, the relative DL-methionine contents increased significantly after 3 weeks. Glucoraphanin synthetic gene expression levels were increased after 3 weeks, but the gene expressions of AOP3 (encoding 2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenases) and MYR (encoding myrosinase) were significantly decreased. Furthermore, the 20 essential DEGs obtained can provide new insight into understanding the developmental regulation of broccoli seedlings. In addition, the results can also provide information on how to obtain higher glucoraphanin contents in broccoli sprouts.

RESUMO

Inulin-type fructooligosaccharides (FOSs) constitute an abundant subgroup of fructans with important biological activities. However, the availability of individual fructooligosaccharides with an accurate structure in high purity and quality remains challenging. We herein report the first iterative synthesis of five inulin-type FOSs with degrees of polymerization ranging from 3 to 7 via highly stereoselective ß-(2 → 1)-d-fructofuranosylation on a gram scale. Central to the synthesis is the decisive use of the 1-O-TIPS-6-O-picoloyl-protected fructofuranosyl thioglycoside donor, which assured the excellent ß-selective glycosylation by the hydrogen-bond-mediated aglycone delivery (HAD).

RESUMO

In recent years, AMPK channel has gained considerable attention in a variety of research areas, and several academic journals have published articles on AMPK research. However, few attempts have been made to thoroughly assess the scientific output and current status systematically in this topic from a worldwide viewpoint. As a result, it is critical to adopt an appropriate visualization method to reveal the global status, future research trends, and hotspots in AMPK channel research. To investigate research hotspots/frontiers in certain domains, bibliometric analysis has been frequently utilized to determine the productivity of nations, institutions, authors, and the frequency of keywords. In this work, we used CiteSpace and VOSviewer to conduct a bibliometric analysis of AMPK channel studies from 2012 to 2021 in order to perform researchers with some directions for AMPK channel research.

RESUMO

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of Tai Chi on cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) in elderly people using meta-analysis. Methods: This study used seven electronic databases and data retrieved from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the role of Tai Chi on CRF in the elderly. All these 24 RCTs were screened and selected from 7 literature databases. The Stata 11.2 software (StataCorp, USA) was used for the meta-analysis, subgroup analysis, and bias test, while the Cochrane Collaboration's tool was used for the assessment of the risk of bias (RoB). 4 researchers independently participated in sample selection, data extraction, and RoB assessment. Results: Following the inclusion criteria, 24 eligible studies were included in our analysis. The meta-analysis indicated that Tai Chi practice significantly increased the maximum rate of oxygen consumption (VO2 max) (weighted mean difference (WMD) = 3.76, 95% CI: 1.25 to 6.26, P < 0.1), leading to an overall reduction in the heart rate (HR) (WMD = -1.84, 95% CI: -2.04 to -1.63, P ≤ 0.001) and an increase in the O2 pulse (WMD = 0.94, 95% CI: 0.60 to 1.28, P ≤ 0.001) in individuals who practiced Tai Chi regularly compared with those who did not. The subgroup analysis suggested that overall in those who practiced Tai Chi, males (WMD = 1.48, 95% CI: 0.85 to 2.12, P ≤ 0.001) had higher O2 pulse than females (WMD = 0.73, 95% CI: 0.33 to 1.12, P ≤ 0.001). The subgroup analysis also showed an increase in the vital capacity (VC) (WMD = 316.05, 95% CI: 239.74 to 392.35, P ≤ 0.001) in individuals practicing Tai Chi. When the samples were further stratified by Tai Chi practicing time, the subgroup analysis suggested that individuals practicing Tai Chi over a period of 24 weeks showed no significant difference in VC (WMD = 82.95, 95% CI: -98.34 to 264.23, P=0.370), while those practicing Tai Chi over a period of 48 weeks showed a significant increase (WMD = 416.62, 95% CI: 280.68 to 552.56, P ≤ 0.001). Furthermore, the subgroup analysis demonstrated that the increase in VC is significantly correlated with the Tai Chi practicing time (WMD = 344.97, 95% CI: 227.88 to 442.06, P ≤ 0.001). Conclusion: Regular Tai Chi practice could improve the CRF in the elderly, as indicated by significant improvement in indicators including VO2 max, O2 pulse, VC, and HR. However, gender and practice time might influence the overall beneficial outcomes.

RESUMO

PROBLEM: Preeclampsia, a pregnancy complication with hypertension and proteinuria, seriously threats the health and lives of the mother and the baby. The pathogenesis of pre-eclampsia remains incompletely understood. The role of peripheral natural killer cells (NK cells) in the pre-eclampsia is unclear. METHOD OF STUDY: Flow cytometry was performed to detect the expression of CD158a (KIR2DL1) and CD158b (KIR2DL2/3) in peripheral NK cells of healthy pregnant women (HP) and patients with pre-eclampsia (PE). Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in CD158a+ and CD158b+ NK cells were identified by RNA-sequencing and real-time PCR. Protein array analysis was used to identify altered protein levels in the serum of study participants. RESULTS: CD158a+ NK cell numbers were increased in the peripheral blood of patients while the number of CD158b+ NK cells was reduced. In addition, the percentage of CD158a+ NK cells within the peripheral NK subset was positively correlated with systolic blood pressure while the percentage of CD158b+ NK cells was negatively correlated with systolic blood pressure. RNA-seq and real-time PCR showed that the expression of ERAP2 and GCH1, the genes that regulate blood pressure and angiogenesis, was decreased in CD158a+ compared to CD158b+ NK cells. Consistently, the level of proteins involved in angiogenesis was altered in the serum of pre-eclampsia patients compared to healthy individuals. CONCLUSIONS: CD158a+ NK cells increased while CD158b+ NK cells decreased in the peripheral blood of patients with pre-eclampsia compared to healthy individuals. The change in the frequency of CD158a+ /CD158b+ NK cells is related to the increase in blood pressure.

RESUMO

In this work, commercial anatase TiO2 powders were modified using ultrathin Fe2O3 layer by atomic layer deposition (ALD). The ultrathin Fe2O3 coating having small bandgap of 2.20 eV can increase the visible light absorption of TiO2 supports, at the meantime, Fe2O3/TiO2 heterojunction can effectively improve the lifetime of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Results of ALD Fe2O3 modified TiO2 catalyst, therefore, showed great visible light driven catalytic degradation of methyl orange compared to pristine TiO2. A 400 cycles of ALD Fe2O3 (~ 2.6 nm) coated TiO2 powders exhibit the highest degradation efficiency of 97.4% in 90 min, much higher than pristine TiO2 powders of only 12.5%. Moreover, an ultrathin ALD Al2O3 (~ 2 nm) was able to improve the stability of Fe2O3-TiO2 catalyst. These results demonstrate that ALD surface modification with ultrathin coating is an extremely powerful route for the applications in constructing efficient and stable photocatalysts.

RESUMO

ZnO/CdS-based nanorod arrays (NRs) are an excellent class of photoanode materials, which possess high photoelectric response for solar-driven water splitting. A highly efficient photoanode system consisting of Al-doped ZnO NRs as effective electron-transfer layers and CdS as a light harvesting layer was rationally designed. Al doping increased the conductivity of ZnO NRs and simultaneously coarsened the surface of ZnO due to expansion of ZnO lattice. The rough surface favoured the growth of a CdS coating layer on it through a successive ionic layer adsorption reaction. The integrated ZnO/CdS photoanode exhibited photocurrent of 10.4 mA cm-2 at 1.23 V versus RHE (reversible hydrogen potential) and conversion efficiency of 5.75% at 0.38 V versus RHE for 60 SILAR CdS cycles. The coating of a protective Al2O3 passivation layer through the direct current magnetron sputtering technique significantly improved the stability of the electrode, and it was better than that of the conventional atomic layer deposition method.

RESUMO

In this work, TiN film deposited by plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) is adopted to modify the commercial anatase TiO2 powders. A series of analyses indicate that the surface modification of 20, 50 and 100 cycles of TiN by PEALD does not change the morphology, crystal size, lattice parameters, and surface area of TiO2 nano powders, but forms an ultrathin amorphous layer of nitrogen doped TiO2 (TiOxNy) on the powder surfaces. This ultrathin TiOxNy can facilitate the absorption of TiO2 in visible light spectrum. As a result, TiOxNy coated TiO2 powders exhibit excellent photocatalytic degradation towards methyl orange under the visible light with good photocatalytic stability compared to pristine TiO2 powders. TiOxNy (100 cycles PEALD TiN) coated TiO2 powders exhibit the excellent photocatalytic activity with the degradation efficiency of 96.5% in 2 hours, much higher than that of pristine TiO2 powder of only 4.4%. These results clearly demonstrate that only an ultrathin surface modification layer can dramatically improve the visible light photocatalytic activity of commercial TiO2 powders. Therefore, this surface modification using ALD is an extremely promising route to prepare visible light active photocatalysts.

RESUMO

N-doped ZnO/g-C3N4 composites have been successfully prepared via a facile and cost-effective sol-gel method. The nanocomposites were systematically characterized by XRD, FE-SEM, HRTEM, FT-IR, XPS, and UV-vis DRS. The results indicated that compared with the pure N-doped ZnO, the absorption edge of binary N-doped ZnO/g-C3N4 shifted to a lower energy with increasing the visible-light absorption and improving the charge separation efficiency, which would enhance its photocatalytic activity. Compared with the pure g-C3N4, ZnO, N-doped ZnO and the composite ZnO/g-C3N4, the as-prepared N-doped ZnO/g-C3N4 exhibits a greatly enhanced photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue and phenol under visible-light irradiation. Meanwhile, N-doped ZnO/g-C3N4 possesses a high stability. Finally, a proposed mechanism for N-doped ZnO/g-C3N4 is also discussed. The improved photocatalysis can be attributed to the synergistic effect between N-doped ZnO and g-C3N4, including the energy band structure and enhanced charge separation efficiency.

RESUMO

Co3O4-coated commercial TiO2 powders (P25) p-n junction photocatalysts were prepared by plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) technique. The structure, morphology, bandgap, and photocatalytic properties under ultraviolet light were investigated systematically. Although the deposition of Co3O4 does not change the anatase structure and crystallite size of P25 powders, the ultraviolet photocatalytic activity has been improved evidently. For the Co3O4-coated P25 powders, the trace Co ions exist as Co3O4 nanoparticles attached to TiO2 powder surface instead of the occupation of Ti4+ position in TiO2 lattice. The Co3O4-coated P25 powders exhibit enhanced photocatalytic degradation efficiency of almost 100% for methylene blue in 1.5 h under ultraviolet light, compared with P25 of 80%. The Mott-Schottky plots of photocatalyst powders confirm the p-n heterojunction formation in Co3O4-TiO2 nanocomposite materials, which is beneficial to increase the efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole separation. In addition, the Co3O4 coating also promotes the adsorption of organic dyes of methylene blue on P25 powders.
