RESUMO

Fusion energy is a promising source of clean energy, which could solve energy shortages and environmental pollution. Research into controlled fusion energy has been ongoing for over half a century. China has created a clear roadmap for magnetic confinement fusion development, where superconducting tokamaks will be used in commercial fusion reactors. The Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) is the world's first fully superconducting tokamak with upper and lower divertors, which aims at long-pulse, steady-state, H-mode operation, and 101-s H-mode discharge had been achieved. In 2007, China joined the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) and became one of its seven members. Thirteen procurement packages are undertaken by China, covering superconducting magnets, power supplies, plasma-facing components (PFCs), diagnostics, etc. To bridge the gap between the ITER and fusion demonstration power plants (DEMOs), China is planning to build the Chinese Fusion Engineering Testing Reactor (CFETR) to demonstrate related technologies and physics models. The engineering design of the CFETR was completed in 2020, and Comprehensive Research Facilities for Fusion Technology (CRAFT) are being constructed to explore the key technologies used in the CFETR.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The presence of lymph node metastasis plays a decisive role in the selection of treatment options in patients with early gastric cancer. However, there is currently no established protocol to predict the risk of lymph node metastasis before/after endoscopic resection. The aim of this study was to develop and validate several machine learning algorithms for clinical practice. METHODS: A total of 2,348 patients with early gastric cancer were selected from 5 major tertiary medical centers. We applied 6 machine learning algorithms to develop lymph node metastasis prediction models for clinical feature variables. The partial dependence plots were used to explain the prediction of the models. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve and area under the precision recall curve were measured to assess the detection performance. The R shiny interactive web application was used to translate the prediction model in a clinical setting. RESULTS: The incidence of lymph node metastasis in patients with early gastric cancer was 13.63% (320/2348) and significantly higher in young women, in the lower third of the stomach, with a size >2 cm, depressed type, poorly/nondifferentiated, lymphovascular invasion, nerve invasion, and submucosal infiltration. In terms of age, there is a nonlinear and younger trend. XGBOOST displayed the best predictive performance at the initial and postendoscopy evaluation. In addition, the machine learning algorithm was converted to a user-friendly web tool for patients and clinicians. CONCLUSION: XGBOOST can predict the risk of lymph node metastasis with best accuracy in patients with early gastric cancer. Our online web application may help determine the optimal best surgical option for patients with early gastric cancer.

RESUMO

Global development has been heavily reliant on the overexploitation of natural resources since the Industrial Revolution. With the extensive use of fossil fuels, deforestation, and other forms of land-use change, anthropogenic activities have contributed to the ever-increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in the atmosphere, causing global climate change. In response to the worsening global climate change, achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 is the most pressing task on the planet. To this end, it is of utmost importance and a significant challenge to reform the current production systems to reduce GHG emissions and promote the capture of CO2 from the atmosphere. Herein, we review innovative technologies that offer solutions achieving carbon (C) neutrality and sustainable development, including those for renewable energy production, food system transformation, waste valorization, C sink conservation, and C-negative manufacturing. The wealth of knowledge disseminated in this review could inspire the global community and drive the further development of innovative technologies to mitigate climate change and sustainably support human activities.

RESUMO

Higher magnetic fields are always favoured in the magnetoplasmadynamic thruster (MPDT) due to its superior control of the plasma profile and acceleration process. This paper introduces the world's first integrated study on the 150 kW level AF-MPDT equipped with a superconductive coil. A completely new way of using superconducting magnet technology to confine plasma with high energy and extremely high temperatures is proposed. Using the PIC method of microscopic particle simulation, the plasma magnetic nozzle effect and performance of the MPDT under different magnetic-field conditions were studied. The integrated experiment used demonstrated that, in conjunction with the superconducting coil, greater homogeneity and a stronger magnetic field not only caused more even cathode ablation and improved its lifespan but also improved the performance of the MPDT (maximum thrust was 4 N at 150 kW, 0.56 T). Maximum thrust efficiency reached 76.6% and the specific impulse reached 5714 s.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the correlation between obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and the development of thoracic deformity in Children. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed with the medical records of 39 pediatric OSAS patients with thoracic deformity and matching 39 without thoracic deformity as control group between January 2015 and June 2019. The contrast was performed with age, gender, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), apnea/hypopnea index (AHI), the lowest oxyhemoglobin saturation (loSpO2)at night, tonsil and adenoid size, Alkaline phosphatase (ALP)and trace elements and metals between two groups. RESULTS: BMI, AHI, the lowest SpO2, Phosphorus and Zinc were the risk factors of thoracic deformity. Age, gender, disease history, the size of tonsil and adenoid, ALP and other trace elements were no significant difference occurred between two groups. CONCLUSION: OSAS characterized by apnea and hypoxia which are caused by narrow upper airway may be one cause of thoracic deformity in children. Pediatricians, thoracic and otolaryngologic surgeons should be alert to OSAS when thoracic deformities are diagnosed in children.

RESUMO

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), also known as oxacillin-resistant S. aureus, is a leading cause of community and hospital associated infections globally. In this work, we found that deletion of the arlRS two-component system genes in the USA300 and USA500 strains resulted in increased susceptibilities to oxacillin (8-16-fold decrease in minimal inhibitory concentrations). In USA300ΔarlRS, transcriptional levels of mecA or blaZ showed no obvious change, while mRNA levels of spx showed a 4-fold decrease at 4 h and a 6.3-fold decrease at 10 h. Overexpression of spx in ΔarlRS restored oxacillin resistance to a similar level in USA300. In addition, gel shift assay showed that the recombinant ArlR bound to spx promoter region. Furthermore, silencing of spx led to a significant increase of oxacillin susceptibility in multiple MRSA isolates. Our results indicate that ArlRS plays a strong role in regulating oxacillin resistance in MRSA strains, which involves direct modulation of spx expression. Moreover, oritavancin showed inhibition to ATPase activity of the recombinant histidine kinase ArlS (IC50 = 5.47 µM). Oritavancin had synergy effect on oxacillin activity against the MRSA strains in both planktonic and biofilm state. Our data suggest that ArlRS is an attractive target for breaking antimicrobial resistance of MRSA.
