RESUMO

This research aimed to devise and assess a mobile game therapy software for children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), as well as evaluating its suitability and effectiveness in improving the cognitive ability of typically developing children. The study encompassed 55 children diagnosed with ADHD and 55 neurotypical children. Initial assessments involved ADHD-related scales, computerized tests for information processing, and physiological-psychological evaluations. After a 4-week home-based game intervention, participants underwent re-evaluation using baseline measures and provided feedback on treatment satisfaction. Considering the small proportion of study participants who dropped out, data was analyzed using both the Intention-to-Treat (ITT) analysis and the Per-protocol (PP) analysis. The trial was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT06181747). In ITT analysis, post-intervention analysis using linear mixed models indicated that the ADHD group improved significantly more than the neurotypical group particularly in Continuous Performance Test (CPT) accuracy (B = -23.92, p < 0.001) and reaction time (B = 86.08, p < 0.01), along with enhancements in anti-saccade (B = -10.65, p < 0.05) and delayed-saccade tasks (B = 0.34, p < 0.05). A reduction in parent-rated SNAP-IV scores was also observed (B = 0.43, p < 0.01). In PP analysis, paired-sample t-tests suggested that the ADHD group had significant changes pre- and post-intervention, in terms of CPT Accuracy (t = -7.62, p < 0.01), Anti-saccade task Correct Rate (t = -3.90, p < 0.01) and SNAP-IV scores (t = -4,64, p < 0.01). However, no significant changes post-intervention were observed in the neurotypical group. Survey feedback highlighted a strong interest in the games across both groups, though ADHD participants found the game more challenging. Parents of ADHD children reported perceived benefits and a willingness to continue the game therapy, unlike the neurotypical group's parents. The findings advocated for the integration of serious video games as a complementary tool in ADHD treatment strategies, demonstrating the potential to augment attentional abilities and alleviate clinical symptoms. However, a randomized controlled trial (RCT) is needed to further verify its efficacy.

RESUMO

Rechargeable lithium batteries using 5 V positive electrode materials can deliver considerably higher energy density as compared to state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries. However, their development remains plagued by the lack of electrolytes with concurrent anodic stability and Li metal compatibility. Here we report a new electrolyte based on dimethyl 2,5-dioxahexanedioate solvent for 5 V-class batteries. Benefiting from the particular chemical structure, weak interaction with lithium cation and resultant peculiar solvation structure, the resulting electrolyte not only enables stable, dendrite-free lithium plating-stripping, but also displays anodic stability up to 5.2 V (vs. Li/Li+), in additive or co-solvent-free formulation, and at low salt concentration of 1 M. Consequently, the Li | |LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 cells using the 1 M LiPF6 in 2,5-dioxahexanedioate based electrolyte retain >97% of the initial capacity after 250 cycles, outperforming the conventional carbonate-based electrolyte formulations, making this, and potentially other dicarbonate solvents promising for future Lithium-based battery practical explorations.

With their high theoretical energy density, Li-S batteries are regarded as the ideal battery system for next generation electrochemical energy storage. In the last 15 years, Li-S batteries have made outstanding academic progress. Recently, research studies have placed more emphasis on their practical application aspects, which puts forward strict requirements for the loading of S cathodes and the amount of electrolytes. To meet the above requirements, electrode catalysis design is of crucial significance. Among all the catalysts, single-atom site catalysts (SASCs) are considered to be ideal catalyst materials for the commercialization of Li-S batteries due to their high activity and highest utilization of catalytic sites. This perspective introduces the kinetic mechanism of S cathodes, the basic concept and synthesis strategy of SASCs, and then systematically summarizes the research progress of SASCs for S cathodes and, the related functional interlayers/separators in recent years. Finally, the opportunities and challenges of SASCs in Li-S batteries are summarized and prospected.

The sluggish kinetics process and shuttling of soluble intermediates present in complex conversion between sulfur and lithium sulfide severely limit the practical application of lithium-sulfur batteries. Herein, by introducing a designated functional organic molecule to couple with polysulfide intermediators, an endogenous prompting mechanism of sulfur conversions has thus been created leading to an alternative sulfur-electrode process, in another words, to build a fast "internal cycle" of promotors that can promote the slow "external cycle" of sulfur conversions. The coupling-intermediators between the functional organic molecule and polysulfides, organophosphorus polysulfides, to be the "promotors" for sulfur conversions, are not only insoluble in the electrolyte but also with higher redox-activity. So the sulfur-electrode process kinetics is greatly improved and the shuttle effect is eliminated simultaneously by this strategy. Meanwhile, with the endogenous prompting mechanism, the morphology of the final discharge product can be modified into a uniform covering film, which is more conducive to its decomposition when charging. Benefiting from the effective mediation of reaction kinetics and control of intermediates solubility, the lithium-sulfur batteries can act out excellent rate performance and cycling stability.

RESUMO

Sluggish multiphase reaction kinetics and severe shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) are two major challenges facing lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries, which largely prevent them from becoming a reality. Herein, a shell with catalytic function for sulfur cathode is in situ constructed through an ingenious electrochemical oxidative polymerization strategy by introducing hexafluorocyclotriphosphazene (HFPN) as additives, which suppresses the shuttle effect and promotes efficient sulfur conversion. The shell with abundant heteroatoms effectively confines polysulfides to the cathode matrix by chemically interacting with them to eliminate capacity degradation. Moreover, the shell exhibits high catalytic activities, which turns Li2S(2) into an activated state and facilitates its dissociation. The functionalized shell substantially advances the performance of Li-S batteries, thanks to efficient lithium-ion transportation and abundant adsorption-catalytic sites. As a result, Li-S batteries demonstrate superb resistance to self-discharge, ultrastable cycle performance, and greatly enhanced rate capability. Impressively, the batteries show an ultralow capacity decay rate of 0.034% throughout 700 cycles at 2C. They deliver a capacity of 517 mAh g-1 even at a 4C rate, exhibiting relieved electrochemical polarization and excellent sulfur utilization. This work provides an ingenious strategy to construct adsorption-catalytic nets for next-generation Li-S batteries with enhanced lifespan and electrochemical performance.

This case report described the diagnosis and treatment of a patient with ectopic bone injury due to high-pressure electric shock. A 24-year-old male patient suffered from burns that covered 50% of TBSA, including on limbs and torso, after coming into contact with 10-kV high-voltage electricity. A repeated Meek micrografting technique (MEEK) was applied for wound healing; skin grafts were cut into micrografts and expanded at a ratio of 1:4 to cover large areas after burn trauma. After the injury, right elbow redness, fever, pains, and joint movement disorder were reported by the patient, which might be attributed to excessive exercises and acute scarring. However, these symptoms were not treated immediately. Six months after the injury, his right elbow joint showed 90° locking and a restricted 5° movement capacity. X-ray examination revealed a new bone formation at the inner tibia shin. In addition, 3D CT showed the formation of right tibia, the ruler bone, and the skull of the humming bridge. Under general anesthesia, the right elbow joint was released, the medial collateral ligament was repaired, and the hinge external fixator was fixed. A large number of hyperplastic bone masses were found at the right elbow joint during surgery, specifically in the foot bone hawk's beak nest. No complications after surgery were observed. X-ray examination in February showed disappearance of the bone bridge and normal relationship of the right elbow joint. This case study revealed that electric shock injury could lead to ectopic bone formation, and much attention should be paid on any changes that indicate aseptic inflammation, such as redness, swelling, fever, and pain during the treatment process. Finally, identification of the scar constriction phase could indicate surgical treatment in order to promote the limb rehabilitation process.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of mastoparan-1 (MP-1) on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute hepatic injury in mice and probe into its possible mechanism. METHODS: One hundred and four BALB/c mice were randomly divided into healthy control group (n = 8, without treatment, HC), LPS group (n = 48, with injection of LPS 5 mg/kg via tail vein), and MP-1 group (n = 48, with injection of LPS 5 mg/kg and MP-1 3 mg/kg via tail vein). Mice in LPS group and MP-1 group were sacrificed at 2nd, 6th, 12th, 24th, 48th and 72nd post injection hour (PIH), 8 mice at each time point in each group. Blood samples were collected for determination of plasma levels of LPS by kinetic turbidimetric limulus test, TNF-alpha and IL-6 by ELISA, serum levels of ALT and AST by automatic biochemistry analyzer respectively. Hepatic tissue samples were collected for determination of TLR4, TNF-alpha and IL-6 mRNA by real-time fluorescent quantitation reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, along with the observation of pathological changes in hepatic tissue at each time point. Above-mentioned examinations were also performed in HC group. RESULTS: Compared with those of HC group, plasma levels of LPS and TNF-alpha in LPS group significantly increased at 2nd PIH (18,320.50 +/- 2782.50 EU/mL and 988 +/- 130 ng/L, respectively), then decreased gradually to 1.80 +/- 0.80 EU/mL and 150 +/- 44 ng/L at 72nd PIH, which was close to those of HC group. The values of IL-6, ALT and AST peaked at 12th PIH, which declined to the levels close to those of HC group at 72nd PIH. Meanwhile, the expressions of TLR4, TNF-alpha and IL-6 mRNA in liver were remarkably up-regulated after injection, and the pathological changes in hepatic tissue pronounced significantly at 12th, 24th and 48th PIH. Compared with those of LPS group, the levels of LPS, cytokines, ALT and AST decreased in MP-1 group in different degrees after injection (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01), genes expression (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01) and pathological changes was respectively suppressed and alleviated in hepatic tissue. CONCLUSIONS: MP-1 can alleviate LPS-induced acute hepatic injury in mice, which may be associated with its neutralization of LPS and attenuation of synthesis and release of inflammatory mediators.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the protective effect of oral fluid resuscitation on cardiac function in severe burn rabbits. METHODS: One hundred and fifty rabbits were randomly divided into normal control group (NC group, n = 6, without treatment), burn group (B group, n = 42, without fluid therapy), immediate oral fluid resuscitation group (C group, n = 42), delayed oral fluid resuscitation group (D group, n = 30) and delayed and rapid oral fluid resuscitation group (E group, n = 30). The rabbits in B, C, D, E groups were subjected to 40% TBSA full-thickness burn, then were treated with fluid therapy immediately after burn (C group), at 6 hour after burn (D, E groups). The myocardial mechanics parameters including mean arterial pressure (MAP), left ventricular systolic pressure (LVSP), left ventricular end diastolic pressure (LVEDP), LV +/- dp/dt max were observed at 2, 6, 8, 12, 24, 36 and 48 post burn hour (PBH). Urine output was also examined. RESULTS: The level of LVSP, LV +/- dp/dt max in B roup were significantly lower than those in NC group. The level of LVSP, LV +/- dp/dt max in the C and E group were singnificantly increased during 24 hour after burn. The level of LV + dp/dt max and LV-dp/dt max in C group peaked at 8 PBH (892 +/- 116 kPa/s) and at 6PBH (724 +/- 149 kPa/s) respectively. The levels of LV +/- dp/dt max, LVSP in D group at each time point were similar to B group (P > 0.05). Both the levels of LV +/- dp/dt max in E group peaked at 8 PBH. The level of LVEDP was no obvious difference between B and other groups at each time point (P > 0.05). The changes of MAP and urine output on 24 PBH in each group were similar to above indices. CONCLUSION: Effective oral fluid therapy in severe burn rabbits during 24 hours after burn can ameliorate myocardial mechanics parameters. The amount of fluid resuscitation can be estimated according to relevant formula for delayed fluid resuscitation in burn rabbits.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the protective effect of high density lipoprotein on the lung function of rats with severe burns. METHODS: One hundred and thirty-five Wistar rats were employed in the study and were randomly divided into control (n = 15, without injury), burn (n = 60, with 30% TBSA full-thickness burn on the back) and experimental [(n = 60, with the injection of HDL (80 mg/kg) via the caudal vein immediately after burns)] groups. The rats in the latter two groups were resuscitated with intraperitoneal isotonic saline (50 ml/kg) 30 minutes after burns. The serum content of ICAM-1 and TNF-alpha as well as the blood content of PCO2 and PO2 of the rats in burn and experimental groups were determined at 12, 24, 48 and 72 post-burn hours (PBH) and in control group. The pathological changes in the lung tissue of the rats in all groups were observed under light microscope and electronic microscope at 48 PBH. RESULTS: PCO2 and the contents of ICAM-1 and TNF-alpha in burn group were significantly higher, but the PO2 was lower than those in control group at each time-point (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). There were no obvious differences in the above indices between the experimental and control groups (P > 0.05), but the ICAM-1 and TNF-alpha levels in experimental group were markedly decreased than those in burn group at each time-point (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). The ICAM-1 and TNF-alpha contents in burn group at 48 PBH were (3.42 +/- 0.25) microg/L and (4. 04 +/- 0.28) ng/L, respectively, which were markedly higher than those in experimental group [(2.24 +/- 0.14) microg/L, (3.35 +/- 0.22) ng/L, P < 0.05 or P < 0.01]. Dilation of capillaries, congestion and inflammatory infiltration in the pulmonary capillaries, and loosening of conjunction between pulmonary capillary vascular endothelial cells and endothelial swelling were observed in burn group at 48 PBH. Compared with the burn group, the injury was markedly alleviated in the experiment group, and the pulmonary capillary endothelial cells showed tighter junction. CONCLUSION: HDL exhibits a protective effect on the lung function of rats with severe burns via reducing the expression of ICAM-1 and TNF-alpha.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the protective effect of high density lipoprotein on the cardiac function of rats with severe burns. METHODS: One hundred and thirty-five Wistar rats were employed in the study and were randomly divided into control (n = 15, without treatment), burn (n = 60, with 30% TBSA full-thickness burn on the back) and experimental (n = 60, with the injection of HDL (80 mg/kg) via the caudal vein immediately after burns) groups. The rats in the groups with burn injury were resuscitated with intraperitoneal isotonic saline (50 ml/kg) 30 minutes after burn (PBM). The serum contents of CK, ICAM-1 and TNF-alpha of the rats of all the three groups were determined with corresponding methods. The histological changes in the cardiac muscle tissue of the rats in all groups were observed under light microscope and electronic microscope. RESULTS: The serum contents of CK, ICAM-1 and TNF-alpha in the control group were obviously lower than those in burn group (P < 0.01), while those in experimental group were also markedly lower than those in control group (P < 0.05 or 0.01). The average reduction rate was 36.5%, 32.0% and 12.6%, respectively. The size and the structure of the cardiac muscular fiber in the control group were even and normal. Compared with the burn group, degeneration, inflammatory infiltration and mitochondrial swelling were found to be less marked in the experimental group at 48 PBH, and no focal lysis and necrosis were found, which were observed in the burn group. CONCLUSION: High density lipoprotein can be beneficial to the protection of cardiac tissue in protecting from secondary injury in rats with severe burns.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effects of fluid resuscitation during the shock stage of mass burn patients. METHODS: Eleven major burn patients out of 25 were rescued at spot and were resuscitated. The treatment results were analyzed and concluded. RESULTS: The eleven patients were all cured by smoothly living through the shock stage. CONCLUSION: The approaching of medical personnel to the site might be the guarantee of correct and timely fluid resuscitation during shock stage, which could be effective on the prevention of burn shock development.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the application of tourniquet in burn patients during tangential excision on the extremities. METHODS: Seventy - nine burn patients who were arranged to receive tangential excision and skin grafting on the extremities were randomly divided into A and B groups. The patients in A group (n = 41) underwent the operation with the tourniquet applied continuously throughout the operation, while those in B group (n = 38), only with tourniquet applied during tangential excision. The amounts of blood loss and blood transfusion, the operation time and the take rate of grafted skin and the incidence of complications were investigated and recorded. RESULTS: The amounts of blood loss and blood transfusion during operation in A group were 42% and 50% less than those in B group, respectively (P < 0.001). Moreover, the operation time on the upper and lower extremities in A group was much shorter (for 41% and 37%, respectively) than those in B group (P < 0.001). In addition, there was no difference of the take rate of skin graft and the incidence of subcutaneous hematoma between the two groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Continuous tourniquet application during tangential excision on the extremities in burn patients was proved to be effective in reducing operational blood loss, blood transfusion and in shortening operation time.
