RESUMO

Seed deterioration during storage poses a significant challenge to rice production, leading to a drastic decline in both edible quality and viability, thereby impacting overall crop yield. This study aimed to address this issue by further investigating candidate genes associated with two previously identified QTLs for seed storability through genome association analysis. Among the screened genes, two superoxide dismutase (SOD) genes, OsCSD2 (Copper/zinc Superoxide Dismutase 2) and OsCSD3, were selected for further study. The generation of overexpression and CRISPR/Cas9 mutant transgenic lines revealed that OsCSD2 and OsCSD3 play a positive regulatory role in enhancing rice seed storability. Subsequent exploration of the physiological mechanisms demonstrated that overexpression lines exhibited lower relative electrical conductivity, indicative of reduced cell membrane damage, while knockout lines displayed the opposite trend. Furthermore, the overexpression lines of OsCSD2 and OsCSD3 showed significant increases not only in SOD but also in CAT and POD activities, highlighting an augmented antioxidant system in the transgenic seeds. Additionally, hormone profiling indicated that ABA contributed to the improved seed storability observed in these lines. In summary, these findings provide valuable insights into the regulatory mechanisms of OsCSDs in rice storability, with potential applications for mitigating grain loss and enhancing global food security.

RESUMO

We report the first use of carbon-doped boron nitride (BCN) for H2S-selective catalytic oxidation. The obtained carbon-doped BN with an ultrathin layer structure exhibits outstanding H2S elimination and high S yield. In particular, BN doped carbon nanosheets display better catalytic performance than traditional catalysts, such as iron- and carbon-based catalysts. The findings of the present work shed a new light on metal-free catalysts for efficient catalytic removal of toxic H2S.

RESUMO

In the present work, we report a facile oxalate-derived hydrothermal method to fabricate α-, ß- and δ-MnO2 catalysts with hierarchically porous structure and study the phase-dependent behavior for selective oxidation of H2S over MnO2 catalysts. It was disclosed that the oxygen vacancy, reducibility and acid property of MnO2 are essentially determined by the crystalline phase. Systematic experiments demonstrate that δ-MnO2 is superior in active oxygen species, activation energy and H2S adsorption capacity among the prepared catalysts. As a consequence, δ-MnO2 nanosphere with a hierarchically porous structure shows high activity and stability with almost 100% H2S conversion and sulfur selectivity at 210 °C, better than majority of reported Mn-based materials. Meanwhile, hierarchically porous structure of δ-MnO2 nanosphere alleviates the generation of by-product SO2 and sulfate, promoting the adoptability of Mn-based catalysts in industrial applications.

RESUMO

Classical amino-functionalized Fe-terephthalate metal-organic framework NH2-MIL-53(Fe) and its parent framework MIL-53(Fe) were prepared via simple hydrothermal methods. The catalytic performaces of these two Fe-MOFs were explored for the selective oxidation of H2S. The physicochemical properties of the fresh and used Fe-MOFs catalysts were investigated by XRD, BET, SEM, FT-IR, CO2-TPD, and XPS techniques. It was found that the introduction of amino groups reduces the activation energies for H2S oxidation and endows this catalyst surface with moderate basic sites. As a result, the NH2-MIL-53(Fe) catalyst displays high H2S conversion and near 100% S selectivity in the temperature range of 130-160 °C, outperforming commercial Fe2O3 and activated carbon. Moreover, a plausible reaction route for H2S selective oxidation over NH2-MIL-53(Fe) is proposed. This work opens up the possibility of utilizing MOFs as efficient catalyst for desulfuration reactions.
