The level of lipid peroxidation (LPO) products increases in the blood of patients with chronic diseases of the liver and acute cholecystitis with mechanical jaundice. The values normalize after surgery for acute cholecystitis, whereas therapy for chronic diseases of the liver virtually does not correct them. These data demonstrate the relationship between intensity of free-radical oxidation and severity of hepatobiliary process and between plasma content of LPO products and level of serum bilirubin.

[Therapeutic tactics after laparoscopic cholecystostomy in patients with acute cholecystitis]. / Lechebnaia taktika posle laparoskopicheskoi kholetsistostomii u bol'nykh s ostrym kholetsistitom.

Laparoscopic cholecystostomy was undertaken in 178 elderly and old-aged patients with acute cholecystitis. Dynamic cholecystoscopy with biopsy of the cystic mucosa and bacteriologic study of the bile was conducted for objective appraisal of the inflammatory process in the gallbladder. Concluding operations on the bile tract were carried out in 147 patients. New methods were applied in 10 patients: filling of the gallbladder and contact solution of the stones in the gallbladder and bile ducts.

[Bile sorption in hepatic insufficiency in patients with mechanical jaundice]. / Zhelchesorbtsiia pri pechenochnoi nedostatochnosti u bo'lnykh s mekhanicheskoi zheltukhoi.

The author describes and substantiates the performance of bile sorption in the prevention and treatment of hepatic insufficiency in patients with obstructive jaundice who were subjected to external drainage of the bile tract. A total of 357 sessions of bile sorption were conducted in the pre- and postoperative periods in 51 elderly and old-aged patients with obstructive jaundice of benign (23 patients) and malignant (18 patients) character. Four patients died.
