[Treatment of infected wounds using a powderlike mixture]. / Lechenie infitsirovannykh ran poroshkoobraznoi smes'iu.

The use of I.D. Zhitnyuk powder is grounded on its absorbing and antiseptic properties. 211 patients with infected wounds were treated with this powder. According to the authors' data the powder mixture increases wound discharge, lessens inflammatory pheomena around the wound and hastens the rejection of necrotic tissues. The use of the powder results in the increase of phagocytosis and rapid disappearance of pathogenic microbes, as it has been proved through bacteriologic and cytologic studies.

[Early adhesive intestinal obstruction]. / O rannei spaechnoi kishechnoi neprokhodimosti

In the paper, on the basis of 54 observations the incidence of early adhesive intestinal obstruction, its diagnosis and operative treatment are discussed. In case of jejunal overfilling a modified I. D. Zhitnjuk enterostomy is recommended, the lessens the danger of the operative wound contamination, accelerates an insertion of a drainage tube in the intestinal lumen and provides an opportunity to accomplish continuous suction both during the process of intestinal drainage and in the postoperative period.

[Adhesive intestinal obstruction in the light of immediate and late results]. / Spaechnaia kishechnaia neprokhodimost' v svete neposredstvennykh i otdalennykh rezul'tatov

The immediate and late results of surgery for adhesive intestinal obstruction were followed up in 235 patients. For prophylaxis of intestinal hypodynamia it is recommended to inject 0.25% novocain solution intraabdominally in the postoperative period. It is found that such kind of injections prevent peritoneal adhesions. Intraperitoneal injections of 0.25% novocain solution yield favourable and satisfactory results in 86.3% of cases, while without using novocain good and satisfactory results were noted only in 49.1%.

[Use of guthimine for treatment of intestinal paresis in peritonitis under experimental and clinical conditions]. / O primenenii gutimina dlia lecheniia pareza kishechnika pri peritonite v eksperimente i klinike

A new stimulator of intestinal peristalsis-guthymine (guanylthiourea) was used experimentally and clinically for treatment of the bowel paresis in peritonitis. Preliminary, in experiments on 53 rabbits with colibacillar peritonitis an efficacy of guthymine was compared with other stimulators of the gastrointestinal tract: proserine, a hypertonic solution of sodium chloride and sorbitol. Guthymine was found to be the most effective drug. Clinically, in 23 of 33 patients with intestinal paresis a drip administration of 15-50 mg/Kg of guthymine would provide for aborting the signs of paresis. In 8 patients a moderately pronounced effect was noted. In 2 cases the use of guthimine failed to produce any positive effects.

[Glomus tumor of arterio-venous anastomoses]. / Klubochkovye opukholi arterio-venoznykh anastomozov

Collected data of 74 national authors comprising 267 glomus tumors are reported. Based on these data and 49 personal authors' observations the clinic, pathogenesis, pathological anatomy and diagnosis of this rather rare lesion are described. Surgical intervention consisting in total removal of the tumor together with its capsule is the only proper method of treatment for the Barre-Masson disease.

[In defense of cholecystostomy]. / V zashchitu kholetsistostomii

In the paper, a question concerning indications to fistulization of the gallbladder for acute cholecystitis is discussed. A total of 165 cholecystostomies have been performed. In 121 patients (77.4%) late results were followed up from 2 to 15 years. Good and satisfactory results were noted in 83.4% of patients. The postoperative mortality after cholecystostomy was 6.2%.
