Background and aims: In recent years, the relationship between metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and colorectal cancer (CRC) or colorectal adenoma (CRA) has gained widespread attention. Previous meta-analyses on this subject either incorporated numerous cross-sectional studies, which were susceptible to bias, or concentrated solely on a restricted number of cohort studies. Moreover, with the release of a substantial number of high-quality cohort studies on this subject in the past two years, the findings continue to be debated and contradictory. Therefore, we conducted an updated systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies to quantitatively evaluate the magnitude of the association between them. Methods: Comprehensive searches of PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase were conducted without language restrictions from the time of their creation up to December, 2023. The pooled hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence interval (CIs) were calculated by the generic inverse variance based on the random-effects model. Moreover, subgroup and sensitivity analyses were performed. Results: A total of 15 cohort studies were analyzed in this meta-analysis, which included 9,958,412 participants. The meta-analysis of 13 cohort studies showed that MASLD was linked to a higher risk of CRC (HR=1.25, 95% CI: 1.15-1.36, P < 0.00001). Additionally, further subgroup analysis indicated that the combined HR remained consistent regardless of the study location, nomenclature of fatty liver disease (FLD), confirmation methods for FLD, sample size, follow-up time, and study quality. Furthermore, the meta-analysis of four cohort studies demonstrated that MASLD was correlated with an increased risk of CRA (HR=1.38, 95% CI: 1.17-1.64, P = 0.0002). The sensitivity analysis results further validated the robustness of the aboved findings. Conclusion: The results of our meta-analysis indicated that MASLD was associated with an increased risk of incident CRC/CRA. In the future, it is necessary to conduct more prospective cohort studies to thoroughly assess potential confounding factors, particularly in individuals from Europe and North America. Furthermore, related mechanism studies should be conducted to enhance our understanding of the link between MASLD and CRC/CRA. BACKGROUND: Numerous recent studies have explored the association between metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and the risk of various extrahepatic cancers. However, the conclusions were inconclusive. The aim of this study was to clarify this relationship by conducting a robust meta-analysis. METHODS: Systematic searches were conducted on PubMed, Embase and Web of Science databases to identify relevant cohort studies published prior to February 2024. Hazard ratios (HRs) and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were combined using a random-effects model in this meta-analysis. RESULTS: Eighteen cohort studies (approximately 16.7 million participants) were finally included in this meta-analysis. MASLD was linked to a higher risk of extrahepatic cancers, such as gastric (n = 10, HR = 1.47, 95% CI: 1.07-2.01), colorectal (n = 13, HR = 1.33, 95% CI: 1.16-1.53), pancreatic (n = 8, HR = 1.41, 95% CI: 1.11-1.79), biliary tract (n = 5, HR = 1.27, 95% CI: 1.18-1.37), thyroid (n = 6, HR = 1.46, 95% CI: 1.02-2.09), urinary system (n = 10, HR = 1.45, 95% CI: 1.25-1.69), breast (n = 11, HR = 1.17, 95% CI: 1.08-1.26) and female genital organ cancers (n = 10, HR = 1.36, 95% CI: 1.11-1.66). However, there was no statistically significant association between MASLD and the risk of head and neck (n = 6, HR = 1.03, 95% CI: 99-1.07), oesophageal (n = 9, HR = 1.26, 95% CI: 0.86-1.86), lung (n = 9, HR = 1.01, 95% CI: 0.92-1.10), prostate (n = 9, HR = 1.06, 95% CI: 0.94-1.19) or small intestine cancer (n = 2, HR = 1.75, 95% CI: 1.00-3.06). CONCLUSIONS: This latest large-scale meta-analysis indicated that MASLD was associated with an increased risk of various extrahepatic cancers, such as gastric, colorectal, pancreatic, biliary duct, thyroid, urinary system, breast, skin and female genital cancers. Further research is needed to investigate the mechanisms underlying these associations.

Background and objectives: Since the results of previous observational studies on the relationship between metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and pancreatic cancer were still controversial and inconsistent, we performed a systematic evaluation and meta-analysis of cohort studies to assess any potential association. Methods: We conducted a systematic search of PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases from the database's inception up to November 30, 2023. For summary purposes, hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using random-effects models, and subgroup and sensitivity analyses were performed as well. The Egger's test and Begg's test were utilized to detect the publication bias. Results: This meta-analysis included nine cohort studies with a total of 10,428,926 participants. The meta-analysis demonstrated an increased risk of pancreatic cancer in those with MASLD (HR = 1.32, 95% CI: 1.10-1.59, P = 0.003) with moderate heterogeneity (I2 = 54%, P = 0.03). Subsequent subgroup analyses revealed that the pooled HRs remained significantly unchanged, irrespective of the study area, nomenclature of fatty liver disease, and sample size. The results of the sensitivity analyses remained unchanged. No evidence of publication bias was found. Conclusion: This meta-analysis indicated that MASLD was associated with a higher risk of pancreatic cancer. To further strengthen the association, future prospective cohort studies should take into account different ethnic groups, diagnostic methods of fatty liver, the severity of MASLD, and potential confounding factors, as well as explore the potential mechanisms of pancreatic cancer development in MASLD patients. PURPOSE: Previous observational studies have revealed a potential link between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), but their causal relationship remains unclear. Thus, this study aimed to examine whether a causal link exists between genetically determined NAFLD and GDM. METHODS: Utilizing publicly accessible genome-wide association studies (GWAS), a two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was conducted. The GWASs data pertaining to NAFLD and GDM were obtained from the UK Biobank Consortium and FinnGen database in primary analysis, respectively. The random-effects inverse variance weighted (IVW) method was utilized as primary analysis method. Several sensitivity analyses were utilized to verify the robustness of the results. Additionally, we also analyzed the causal effect of potential shared influencing factors on these two conditions. RESULTS: The result of the IVW method showed that there was no significant causal relationship between genetically determined NAFLD and GDM (OR = 0.98, 95% CI: 0.90-1.07, P = 0.691). Similarly, our reverse MR analysis failed to detect a significant causal effect of GDM on NAFLD (OR = 1.14, 95% CI: 0.97-1.36, P = 0.118). Sensitivity analyses further confirmed the robustness of the results. Moreover, we found that genetically determined body mass index, waist-to-hip ratio, triglycerides, and television viewing time may be positively correlated with NAFLD and GDM, while high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and apolipoprotein A-I may both be negatively correlated with NAFLD and GDM. CONCLUSIONS: The current bidirectional MR study failed to provide sufficient genetic evidence for the causal relationship between NAFLD and GDM.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Recently, vonoprazan-amoxicillin (VA) dual therapy has been reported as a promising approach for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication. However, the effects of VA therapy versus bismuth-containing quadruple therapy (BQT) on H. pylori eradication remains unclear. The objective of this meta-analysis was to compare the effects of VA dual therapy with BQT for H. pylori eradication. METHODS: A comprehensive search of the literature was conducted from the beginning to September 2023, utilizing PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library and Web of Science database. A random-effects model was used to perform a meta-analysis to determine the pooled relative risk (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Moreover, trial sequential analysis (TSA) was conducted to evaluate the conclusiveness of the H. pylori eradication rate. RESULTS: Six randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with 1233 patients were included. The VA therapy has similar eradication rate (ITT analysis: 87% vs. 85.7%, RR = 1.01, 95% CI: 0.93-1.09, p = 0.84; PP analysis: 92.5% vs. 93.2%, RR = 1.00, 95% CI: 0.94-1.06, p = 0.97) and compliance (RR = 1.01, 95% CI: 0.99-1.03, p = 0.32) compared to BQT. The VA therapy group had a significantly lower incidence of total adverse events than the BQT group (16.3% vs. 40.0%, RR = 0.45, 95% CI: 0.37-0.55, p < 0.00001). The TSA result showed that the effect was conclusive. CONCLUSIONS: Current evidence indicated that VA therapy is just as successful as BQT in eliminating H. pylori, yet it has fewer adverse events and similar compliance.

Background: Vonoprazan-amoxicillin (VA) dual therapy has recently been proposed to eradicate Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) with controversial results. We, therefore, conducted a meta-analysis to assess the effect of this therapy for H. pylori eradication. Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science database from inception until November 2022, collecting randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing VA dual therapy with other regimens for H. pylori eradication. Pooled relative risks (RRs) were calculated using random effects model. Results: Five RCTs were ultimately included. Compared with the vonoprazan-amoxicillin-clarithromycin (VAC) triple therapy, the eradication rate of VA dual therapy was lower in intention-to-treat (ITT) analysis (n = 3 RCTs, RR = 0.94, 95% CI: 0.88-0.99, P = 0.03), but there was no significant difference between them in the per-protocol (PP) analysis (RR = 0.96, 95% CI: 0.91-1.01, P = 0.11). For clarithromycin-resistant H. pylori strains, the eradication rate of VA dual therapy was significantly higher than that of the VAC triple therapy (n = 2 RCTs, RR = 1.20, 95% CI: 1.03-1.39, P = 0.02). Compared with the PPI-based triple therapy (PAC), VA dual therapy had a superior eradication rate (n = 2 RCTs, ITT analysis: RR = 1.13, 95% CI: 1.04-1.23, P = 0.003; PP analysis: pooled RR = 1.14, 95% CI: 1.06-1.22, P = 0.0004). Compared with VAC or PAC triple therapy, VA dual therapy has a similar incidence of total adverse events and compliance. Conclusions: VA dual therapy had a similar effect compared to VAC triple therapy and was superior to PAC triple therapy. Future RCTs are needed to ascertain the optimal dosage and duration of vonoprazan and amoxicillin, and the effect of VA dual therapy compared with the mainstream regimens recommended by current guidelines.

Background and objective: The association between atrial fibrillation (AF) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) or metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) has been explored in recent cohort studies, however, the results have been controversial and inconclusive. This meta-analysis aimed to explore this potential association. Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases to identify all relevant cohort studies investigating the association between NAFLD/MAFLD and AF published from database inception to October 30, 2022. Random-effects models were utilized to calculate hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for summary purposes. Additionally, subgroup and sensitivity analyses were performed. Results: A total of 13 cohort studies with 14 272 735 participants were included. Among these, 12 cohort studies with 14 213 289 participants (median follow-up of 7.8 years) showed a significant association between NAFLD and an increased risk of incident AF (HR = 1.18, 95% CI: 1.12-1.23, P < 0.00001). Our subgroup analyses mostly yielded similar results, and the results of sensitivity analyses remained unchanged. However, meta-analysis of data from 2 cohort studies with 59 896 participants (median follow-up of 2.15 years) showed that MAFLD was not linked to incident AF (HR = 1.36, 95% CI: 0.63-2.92, P = 0.44). Conclusion: Current evidence shows that NAFLD may be linked to a slightly higher risk of developing AF, particularly among Asian populations and those diagnosed with NAFLD using FLI criteria. Nevertheless, there is not enough evidence to support the proposed association between MAFLD and an increased risk of AF. To better understand this relationship, future studies should consider factors such as specific population, the severity of NAFLD/MAFLD, diagnostic methods of NAFLD and AF, and cardiometabolic risk factors. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Numerous observational studies have been conducted to investigate the potential association between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and prostate cancer (PCa). However, a definitive conclusion has yet to be established. We therefore performed a meta-analysis to explore the relationship between these two conditions. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases were systematically searched to identify all relevant cohort studies that investigated the association between IBD and risk of incident PCa published from inception to February 2023. The pooled hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) was calculated as effect size for the outcome based on random-effects model meta-analysis. RESULTS: A total of 18 cohort studies with 592,853 participants were included. The meta-analysis revealed that IBD was linked to an elevated risk of incident PCa (HR = 1.20, 95% CI: 1.06-1.37, P = 0.004). Further subgroup analyses revealed that ulcerative colitis (UC) was linked to an increased risk of incident PCa (HR = 1.20, 95% CI: 1.06-1.38, P = 0.006), while Crohn's disease (CD) is not significantly associated with a higher risk of PCa (HR = 1.03, 95% CI: 0.91-1.17, P = 0.65). There was a significant correlation between IBD and an elevated risk of incident PCa in the European population, but such a correlation was not observed in the Asian and North American populations. Sensitivity analyses indicated that our results were robust. CONCLUSIONS: Our latest evidence indicates that IBD was linked to an elevated risk of incident PCa, especially in UC patients and the European population.

Background and Objectives: Recent observational studies have investigated the association between Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and pancreatic cancer with conflicting data. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the potential association. Design: This is a systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: We searched three databases (PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science) from inception to 30 August 2022. The summary results as odds ratio (OR) or hazard ratio (HR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) were pooled by generic inverse variance method based on random-effects model. Results: A total of 20 observational studies involving 67,718 participants were included in the meta-analysis. Meta-analysis of data from 12 case-control studies and 5 nested case-control studies showed that there was no significant association between H. pylori infection and the risk of pancreatic cancer (OR = 1.20, 95% CI = 0.95-1.51, p = 0.13). Similarly, we also did not find significant association between cytotoxin-associated gene A (CagA) positive strains, CagA negative strains, vacuolating cytotoxin gene A (VacA) positive strains H. pylori infection, and the risk of pancreatic cancer. Meta-analysis of data from three cohort studies showed that H. pylori infection was not significantly associated with an increased risk of incident pancreatic cancer (HR = 1.26, 95% CI = 0.65-2.42, p = 0.50). Conclusion: We found insufficient evidence to support the proposed association between H. pylori infection and increased risk of pancreatic cancer. To better understand any association, future evidence from large, well-designed, high-quality prospective cohort studies that accounts for diverse ethnic populations, certain H. pylori strains, and confounding factors would be useful to settle this controversy.

Background and objective: Recently, a large number of trials on proton pump inhibitor-amoxicillin-containing high-dose dual therapy (HDDT) versus bismuth-containing quadruple therapy (BQT) for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication have been published with controversial and inconsistent conclusions. The aim of this meta-analysis was to determine the effects of HDDT for H. pylori eradication compared to BQT. Design: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted. Methods: PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane library database were searched to collect all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the effects of HDDT versus BQT to H. pylori eradication from inception to September 2022. Meta-analysis was conducted to estimate the pooled relative risk (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) using a random-effects model. Quality of evidence was appraised using Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation system. Trial sequential analysis (TSA) was performed to determine the reliability and conclusiveness. Results: A total of 14 RCTs with 5121 patients were included. The results of meta-analysis showed that there was no statistical significance in the eradication rate between HDDT and BQT (intention-to-treat analysis: 86.7% versus 85.1%, RR = 1.01, 95% CI: 0.98-1.04; per-protocol analysis: 89.9% versus 89.4%, RR = 1.01, 95% CI: 0.98-1.03; moderate-quality evidence). The incidence of total adverse effects in HDDT group was significantly lower than in BQT group (5.9% versus 34.1%, RR = 0.42, 95% CI: 0.34-0.50; low-quality evidence). No statistical significance was observed in compliance between HDDT and BQT (RR = 1.01, 95% CI, 1.00-1.03, p = 0.07; low-quality evidence). The TSA result for H. pylori eradication rate indicated that the effect was conclusive. Conclusions: Evidence from our updated meta-analysis suggests that HDDT is as effective as BQT in eradicating H. pylori, with fewer adverse effects and similar compliance. Background/Objectives: Recent observational studies have explored the association between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and stroke with controversial results. We therefore performed a meta-analysis to investigate this possible association. Methods: PubMed, EMBASE and Web of Science database were searched from inception until December 2019, and updated on May 2021. Random-effects meta-analyses were performed by generic inverse variance method. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses were also conducted. The PROSPERO registered number of this study is CRD42020167330. Results: Twenty observational (15 cohort, 4 cross-sectional, and 1 case-control) studies with 17,060,388 participants were included in the meta-analysis. Meta-analysis of data from 18 studies with 17,031,672 participants has shown that NAFLD was associated with mildly increased risk of stroke (OR = 1.18, 95% CI: 1.08-1.30, P = 0.0005). Similar results were observed in most of the subgroup analyses we performed. Sensitivity analyses did not alter these findings. Meta-analysis of data from 3 studies with 29,614 participants has shown that insufficient evidence to support the proposed association between NAFLD-fibrosis and an increased risk of stroke. Conclusions: We found that NAFLD was associated with increased risk of stroke. However, there was insufficient evidence to support the proposed association between NAFLD-fibrosis and an increased risk of stroke. To better understand any association, future well-designed prospective studies that take fully account of specific population, type of stroke, and confounding factors are warranted. BACKGROUND AND AIMS: To improve Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication rate, enhanced patient instructions (EPI) such as telephone-based re-education, short-message service, and Wechat have been proposed with conflicting results. The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the effect of EPI on H. pylori eradication. METHODS: The PROSPERO registered number of this study is CRD42021278536. PubMed, Embase, and CENTRAL database were searched to identify relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from inception to September 2021. Meta-analysis was performed to estimate the pooled relative risk (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) using a random-effects model. Trial sequential analysis (TSA) was conducted to determine the robustness of the H. pylori eradication rate. RESULTS: Nine RCTs were included. Compared with patients receiving only regular instructions, patients received EPI showed significantly higher H. pylori eradication rate (n = 8 RCTs, ITT analysis: RR = 1.20, 95% CI: 1.06-1.35; PP analysis: RR = 1.12, 95% CI:1.02-1.23) and better patient compliance (n = 8 RCTs, RR = 1.23, 95% CI: 1.09-1.39), as well as higher patient satisfaction (n = 3 RCTs, RR = 1.42, 95% CI: 1.14-1.76). However, there were no significant difference between groups in the incidence of total adverse events (n = 6 RCTs, RR = 0.66, 95%CI: 0.40-1.08) and symptom relief rates (n = 2 RCTs, RR = 1.17, 95% CI: 0.89-1.54). The TSA result indicated that the effect was robust. CONCLUSIONS: Evidence from our meta-analysis shows that EPI intervention may be a promising strategy to improve H. pylori eradication rate, patient compliance, and patient satisfaction.

Background/objectives: Recently, several studies explored the association between glaucoma and the risk of stroke, but these results were inconsistent. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to examine this possible association. Methods: We conducted a systematic literature search of PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science from inception until February 28, 2022. Random-effects meta-analysis was conducted by generic inverse variance method. Sensitivity and subgroup analyses were performed. The review protocol has been registered with PROSPERO (CRD42022312797). Results: Seven studies (involving 362,267 participants) have been published from 2004 to 2017 and included in the meta-analysis. These studies included four retrospective cohort studies, two cross-sectional studies, and one case-control study. Meta-analysis of these data has shown that glaucoma was associated with an increased risk of stroke (OR = 1.94, 95% CI = 1.45-2.59). Most of the subgroup analyses demonstrated similar results. These findings were stable in sensitivity analyses. Conclusions: We found that glaucoma was associated with an increased risk of stroke. The result suggests that patients with glaucoma need to be assessed the risk of stroke to reduce the incidence of stroke. To better explore the nature of any association, prospective studies that consider the stroke subtypes, sample size, district, and other confounding factors are needed.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Whether Saccharomyces boulardii (S boulardii) as an adjuvant therapy are beneficial to H pylori eradication remains controversial. The aim of the study was to update and determine the effects of S boulardii as an adjuvant therapy on H pylori eradication rates and adverse effects. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Embase, CENTRAL, and Web of Science to collect all randomized controlled trials assessing the effects of S boulardii as an adjuvant therapy for H pylori eradication from inception to February 2019. Quality of evidence was appraised using Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation system. Trial sequential analysis was performed to control the risk of type I and type II errors. RESULTS: Eighteen trials with 3592 patients were eligible for meta-analysis. Compared with standard eradication regimen, the S boulardii supplementation could significantly improve eradication rates [risk ratio (RR) = 1.09, 95% confidence interval (CI):1.05-1.13; moderate quality evidence] and reduce the incidence of total side effects (RR = 0.47, 95%CI:0.36-0.61; low quality evidence), as well as some gastrointestinal adverse effects, especially diarrhea (RR = 0.33, 95%CI:0.23-0.47; low quality evidence) and constipation (RR = 0.37, 95%CI:0.23-0.57; moderate quality evidence). In addition, the need for discontinuation rate in S boulardii supplementation group was significantly lower than in the control group (RR = 0.33, 95%CI:0.16-0.69, P = .003; moderate quality evidence). The TSA results for overall eradication rates and total side effects indicated that the effects were conclusive. CONCLUSIONS: Our meta-analysis shows that S boulardii supplementation on standard eradication therapy significantly increased H pylori eradication rates and reduced the incidence of total side effects and some gastrointestinal adverse effects during eradication therapy.

BACKGROUND: The association between Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has been shown in many observational studies, but these conclusions remain controversial. Hence, we performed a meta-analysis to elucidate the association. METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted on relevant studies published from inception to December 31, 2018, in PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases. Odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were pooled by random-effect model, generic inverse variance method. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses were also done. Publication bias was estimated by the funnel plot, Begg's test, and Egger's test. RESULTS: Fifteen studies (eleven cross-sectional, two case-control, and two cohort studies) were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled OR of NAFLD in patients with H. pylori infection was 1.19 (95% CI: 1.11-1.29, P < 0.00001) when compared with the patients without H. pylori infection. Similar results were observed when the subgroup analyses were stratified by different geographical locations, study designs, and confounders adjustment. In subgroup analysis stratified by different H. pylori testing methods, the correlation still exists when using UBT, serology, RUT, or SAT, but there was no statistically significant difference when using multiple detection methods (OR = 2.96, 95% CI: 0.37-23.94, P = 0.31). Sensitivity analyses showed that our results were robust. No evidence of substantial publication bias was detected. CONCLUSIONS: Current evidence indicated that a positive association between H. pylori infection and the risk of NAFLD. Further prospective studies are warranted to strengthen the association and to clarify whether there is a causative link between them.

AIMS: Previous studies have indicated the link of bilirubin levels and risk of developing chronic kidney disease (CKD); however, the findings were inconsistent. METHODS: We searched for cohort studies examining bilirubin as an exposure and CKD as an outcome in the Medline, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases from inception through November 31, 2016. A generalized least-squares approach was applied to assess the dose-response relationship between them by pooling rate ratios with 95% confidence intervals. Subgroup analyses, sensitivity analysis, meta-regression, and publication bias were also conducted. RESULTS: Seven cohort studies with 1316 cases and 21,076 participants were identified for inclusion in the meta-analysis. The combined RR for the highest versus lowest bilirubin level was 0.36 (95% CI 0.19-0.68; P heterogeneity = 0.001; Power = 0.72; n = 6). In the linear dose-response analysis, each 1-µmol/L increase in bilirubin was associated with a 5% reduced risk of CKD (RR = 0.95; 95% CI 0.92-0.97; P for trend test = 0.113; P heterogeneity = 0.001; Power = 0.99; n = 7). The subgroup analyses and sensitivity analyses showed consistent results, and publication bias may exist. CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis suggests that elevated bilirubin level may be associated with decreased risk of developing CKD.

A high-resolution model of P-wave anisotropic tomography beneath Mainland China and surrounding regions is determined using a large number of arrival-time data recorded by the China seismic network, the International Seismological Centre (ISC) and temporary seismic arrays deployed on the Tibetan Plateau. Our results provide important new insights into the subducted Indian plate and mantle dynamics in East Asia. Our tomographic images show that the northern limit of the subducting Indian plate has reached the Jinsha River suture in eastern Tibet. A striking variation of P-wave azimuthal anisotropy is revealed in the Indian lithosphere: the fast velocity direction (FVD) is NE-SW beneath the Indian continent, whereas the FVD is arc parallel beneath the Himalaya and Tibetan Plateau, which may reflect re-orientation of minerals due to lithospheric extension, in response to the India-Eurasia collision. There are multiple anisotropic layers with variable FVDs in some parts of the Tibetan Plateau, which may be the cause of the dominant null splitting measurements in these regions. A circular pattern of FVDs is revealed around the Philippine Sea slab beneath SE China, which reflects asthenospheric strain caused by toroidal mantle flow around the edge of the subducting slab.

The sliding zone soil of Motuo and GelinLandslides were tested with X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, and infrared absorption spectra. Its compositins of main minerals and clay minerals, even the chemical compositions were comprehensively analyzed. The results show that the composition of the main minerals was controlled by alluvial fan composition, and the contents of clay minerals accounted for 9% and 10% respectively, with a large number of illitecontained in the sliding zone soilofMotuoLandslide, which reflects that the landslide had a high slip rate. There were no exotic corbonates minerals or secondary clay minerals contained corrosive substance with poor mechanical properties filled into theslidingplane because of the closed system, based on the infrared absorption spectrum with no peaks arising from CO2-3, HCO1-3 or C­H, as a positive affect result of the stability of these lamdsiles.The samples of sliding zone soil contain a certain amount of halloysite, reflecting that the landslides in the area of Motuo developed in a very humid and warm environment. With Na2O and CaO preserved in the closed system, a large number of illite/montmorillonite mixed layer formed in the sliding zone soilofGelinlandslide due to the strong water-rock interaction in thesliding plane with the decomposition of illite. The frictional strength of sliding zone was largely reduced due to the clay mineral assemblages, leading to the activity risk of landslide increasing.

Quartz in the veins at the Shenxigou section of Wenchuan earthquake fault zone was investigated by micro-Raman spectroscopic measurement, and the distribution of compressive stress in the fault zone was estimated by the frequency shifts of the 464 cm-1 vibrational mode of quartz grains in the veins. It was showed that the 464 cm-1 peak arising from the quartz grains in the veins near the fault plane shifts by 3. 29 cm-1 , and the corresponding compressive stress is 368. 63 MPa, which is significantly lower than the stress accumulation on both sides due to multi-stage events. Stress accumulation increased with moving away from the fault plane in the footwall with the offset of the 464 cm-1 peak arising from the quartz grains in the veins increasing, which can reach 494. 77 MPa at a distance of 21 m with a high offset of 4. 40 cm-1 of the 464 cm-1 peak. The compressive stress gets the maximum value of 519.87 MPa at a distance of 10 m from the fault plane in the hanging wall with the offset of the 464 cm-1 peak arising from the quartz grains in the veins being 4. 62 cm-1, followed by a sudden drop in stress accumulation, and it drops to 359. 59 MPa at a distance of 17 m. Because of moving away from the foult plane at the edge of the foult zone, the stress drops to 359. 59 MPa with a small value of 464 cm-1 peak offset 3. 21 cm-1 at a distance of 27 m from the fault plane in the hanging wall due to the little effect by the fault activity. Therefore, the stress of Wenchuan earthquake fault zone is partially released, but the rest of the stress distribution is uneven, and there is also a high stress accumulation in somewhere in the fault zone, which reflects that the mechanical properties of the rocks in the fault zone have a characteristic of unevenness in space.
