RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study aims at researching the content of hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA in the breast milk of the mothers carrying HBV and investigating the effects of different feeding methods on mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of HBV. METHODS: All infants were voluntarily chosen by their mothers and divided into breast-feeding group and formula-feeding group, which were divided into three subgroups, respectively: HBV-DNA negative (HBV-) group, low viral load (LVL) group and high viral load (HVL) group. RESULTS: HBV load in colostrum and mature milk were both significantly lower than in serum (P < 0.001). The positive rate of HBV-DNA in colostrum was positively correlated with HBV load in serum, significantly higher than that of the HBV-Group in colostrum in the LVL Group (P < 0.05), and the HVL Group was significantly higher than the LVL Group (P < 0.001). The analysis of risk factors of HBV infection in infants showed that breast-feeding and HBsAg positive in colostrum did not increase the risks of HBV infection of infants (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Breast-feeding is safe for infants with HBV-infected mothers who receive active immunization combined with passive immunization. As well, breast-feeding will neither increase the risks of HBV infection for infants nor weaken their immunity to HBV. However, breast-feeding shall be cautiously applied to pregnant women with high viral load.

RESUMO

AIM: To investigate the expression of polymeric immunoglobulin receptor (pIgR) in endometrial adenocarcinoma and the relationship between pIgR and the clinicopathological features of endometrial adenocarcinoma. To investigate the role of pIgR in the biological behavior of endometrial adenocarcinoma cell lines. METHODS: First, the paraffin-embedded endometrial adenocarcinoma samples and clinicopathological data from the Chao-Yang Hospital were collected. Next, immunohistochemistry was conducted to test the expression of pIgR in endometrial adenocarcinoma; the correlations between pIgR and clinicopathological features were detected. Then, the expression of pIgR in the Ishikawa cells was interfered with short-interfering RNA (siRNA). Finally, the migration and proliferation abilities of Ishikawa cells were detected by transwell and CCK8 assays before and after interference. RESULTS: pIgR had a high expression level and higher H-score in endometrial adenocarcinoma (P = 0.013) than in noncancerous tissues. There was no correlation between pIgR and the histopathological features of endometrial adenocarcinoma (P ≥ 0.418). The migration ability of Ishikawa cells was increased after interference with pIgR (P = 0.023). The proliferation of Ishikawa cells was not different between the untreated and siRNA215-treated groups (P = 0.967). CONCLUSION: PIgR may be a predictive biomarker of endometrial adenocarcinoma and a potential target protein for immunotherapy of endometrial adenocarcinoma.

RESUMO

Kissing nevus is a curious type of nevus that was first described on the eyelids and rarely described on the penis. We report two cases of kissing nevus of the penis and review previously reported cases. The lesions of the kissing nevus of the penis showed characteristic mirror-image symmetry relative to the coronal sulcus. On histopathology, the lesion showed a compound nevus.

RESUMO

Scaffolds have an important role in cartilage tissue engineering. Poly(hydroxybutyratecohydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) has been demonstrated to have potential as a scaffold for the three dimensional construction of engineered cartilage tissue. However, the poor hydrophilicity and mechanical strength associated with PHBV affects its clinical applications as a scaffold in cartilage tissue engineering. The incorporation of Bioglass (BG) into PHBV has been shown to improve the hydrophilicity and mechanical strength of PHBV matrices. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the properties of PHBV scaffolds and PHBV scaffolds containing 10% BG (w/w) (PHBV/10% BG) and to investigate the effects of these scaffolds on the properties of engineered cartilage in vivo. Rabbit auricular chondrocytes were seeded onto PHBV and PHBV/10% BG scaffolds. Differences in cartilage regeneration were compared between the neocartilage grown on the PHBV and the PHBV/10% BG scaffolds after 10 weeks of in vivo transplantation. The incorporation of BG into PHBV was observed to improve the hydrophilicity and compressive strength of the scaffold. Furthermore, after 10 weeks incubation in vivo, the cartilagelike tissue formed using the PHBV/10% BG scaffolds was observed to be thicker, exhibit enhanced biomechanical properties and have a higher cartilage matrix content than that generated using the pure PHBV scaffolds. The results of this study demonstrate that the incorporation of BG into PHBV may generate composite scaffolds with improved properties for cartilage engineering.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Congenital blepharoptosis is a common pediatric disease. Frontalis muscle flap advancement is an effective surgical technique to treat patients with severe ptosis and poor levator function. However, since eye position changes under general anesthesia, it is necessary to adjust the position of the upper eyelid to achieve a better surgical outcome. METHODS: A total of 162 children with severe congenital blepharoptosis underwent frontalis muscle flap advancement under general anesthesia. Patients were divided into two groups according to the different positions of eyelid suspension. The eyelid position of 82 children (96 eyes) in group A was adjusted to set at the superior limbus under general anesthesia, while the eyelid level of 80 children (94 eyes) in group B was adjusted according to the level labeled before anesthesia or the orthophoria level predicted using Krimsky's test. Lid level, ptosis recurrence, cosmetic appearance, and complications were evaluated 12 months after surgery. RESULTS: Excellent functional and cosmetic results were achieved in 61 (63.5 %) children from group A and 85 (90.4 %) from group B. Fewer complications were observed in group B (36.5 vs. 9.6 %). CONCLUSION: To achieve better surgical results after frontalis flap advancement for severe ptosis, it is necessary to adjust the eyelid level according to eye position changes that occur when the patient is under general anesthesia. RESUMO

We report a novel system (W2600) that is based on the technology of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) to genotype human papillomavirus (HPV). The system permitted detection of 24 known HPV genotypes, including 16 high-risk types (HPV 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 53, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68, 81) and 8 low-risk types (HPV 6, 11, 40, 42, 43, 44, 54, 70). Analytical performance of W2600 for HPV genotyping was evaluated by HPV DNA derived from the liquid cervical cytology specimens of 560 patients with atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance or above. In comparison with clonal sequence analysis, 358 of 560 (64%) and 355 of 560 (63%) cases were found to be positive within the 24 HPV genotypes by W2600 and sequence analysis, respectively. Concordance between these two methods was at 555 of 560 (99%) (kappa = 0.98, P < 0.001); only 5 of the 560 (1%) cases had discordant results. No cross-hybridizations were observed with the W2600 system, and the spectrum of HPV genotypes identified by W2600 included all the 16 high-risk genotypes. These data demonstrate that the SPR-based W2600 system is highly sensitive and specific in HPV genotyping and can provide an effective approach for such application in a clinical setting.
