BACKGROUND: Helminth infections, including Opisthorchis viverrini, hookworm, and Trichuris trichiura, are prevalent in Khong district, Champasack province, southern Lao People's Democratic Republic (PDR). Schistosomiasis caused by Schistosoma mekongi is of public health concern on the islands of the Khong district. This study aimed to assess the impact of an Eco-Health/One-Health approach in combination with mass drug administration (MDA) to reduce these helminth infections. METHODS: We conducted a community intervention using a stepped-wedge trial approach on two endemic islands (Donsom and Donkhone) of the Khong district, Champasack province, Lao PDR, between April 2012 and March 2013. In each study village, 30-40 households were randomly selected. All members of selected households, who were at home during the study period were invited to participate in the study. A baseline study was conducted to assess helminth infections, knowledge attitudes and practices toward Schistosoma mekongi infection, behavior of open defecation and availability of latrine at home. After the baseline (T0), the Eco-Health/One-Health approach was implemented on Donsom (intervention) and Donkhone island (control). An assessment was conducted in 2014 (T1), one year after the completion of intervention implementation, to assess the short-term impact of the Eco-Health/One-Health approach on helminth infections and compare intervention and control islands. Later in 2015, the Eco-Health/One-Health approach was implemented on control island (Donkhone). After the implementation of intervention, the parasitological assessments were conducted annually in humans in 2015 (T2), in 2016 (T3) and in 2017 (T4), and in dogs in 2017 (T4) to evaluate the long-term impact of the intervention on helminth infections. Frequency was used to describe the prevalence of helminth infections. Logistic regression was applied to associate the KAP (knowledge, attitudes, and practices and open defecation behavior) and the reduction of helminth infections between intervention and control islands. The reduction in prevalence pre- and post-intervention was associated using a McNemar test. A two-independent sample t-test was applied to compare the mean eggs per gram (EPG) of helminth infections between control and intervention islands. A paired t-test test was used to compare the mean EPG of stool samples before (baseline) and after (follow-up) interventions for the two islands separately. A P-value lower than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: Eco-Health/One-Health approach appears to be associated with reduction in prevalence of S. mekongi by 9.0% [odds ratio (OR) = 0.49, P = 0.003] compared to the use of mass drug administration alone (control island). Additionally, this intervention package significantly reduced O. viverrini infection by 20.3% (OR = 1.92, P < 0.001) and hookworm by 17.9% (OR = 0.71, P = 0.045), respectively. Annual parasitological assessments between 2012 and 2017 showed that the Eco-Health/One-Health approach, coupled with MDA, steadily reduced the prevalence of S. mekongi on the intervention island from 29.1% to 1.8% and on the control island from 28.4% to 3.1%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The study findings suggest that the Eco-Health/One-Health approach appears to be associated with a significant reduction in prevalence of S. mekongi and helminth co-infections, particularly hookworm and T. trichiura. Therefore, implementing the Eco-Health/One-Health approach in schistosomiasis-endemic areas could accelerate the achievement of national goals for transmission interruption by 2025 and elimination by 2030.

Selenium (Se), a trace element, is vital for the maintenance of cellular redox balance, thyroid hormone metabolism, inflammation, and immunity. Aeromonas hydrophila (A. hydrophila) is a common Gram-negative conditional pathogenic bacterium in fish culture, posing a serious threat to intensive aquaculture. Our study investigated the influence of dietary Se on the intestinal immune function of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) and the related regulatory mechanisms. The 2160 healthy juvenile grass carp (9.76 ± 0.005 g) were randomly assigned to 6 test groups of 6 replicates each, and fed graded selenomethionine (0.05, 0.20, 0.40, 0.61, 0.77, 0.98 mg Se/kg diet) for 70 days and then injected with A. hydrophila for a 6-day attack test. The results indicated that appropriate Se levels (0.40 mg/kg diet) alleviated intestinal damage caused by A. hydrophila and increased intestinal immune substances C3 and C4 levels as well as the activity of acid phosphatase (ACP) and lysozyme (LZ) (P > 0.05). Appropriate levels of Se (0.40 mg/kg-0.61 mg/kg diet) decreased intestinal pro-inflammatory cytokines (IFN-γ2, IL-6, IL-12p35, IL-17 A F and IL-17D) mRNA levels (P > 0.05) and increased intestinal anti-inflammatory factors (TGF-ß1, IL-4/13A, IL-4/13B, IL-10 and IL-22) mRNA levels (P > 0.05) in juvenile grass carp. Further studies revealed that Se (0.40 mg/kg-0.61 mg/kg diet) inhibited intestinal endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS)-related signaling pathway. Furthermore, we found that appropriate levels of Se (0.40 mg/kg-0.61 mg/kg diet) inhibited intestinal autophagy in juvenile grass carp, which may be related to ULK1, Beclin 1, ATG5, ATG12, LC3, and P62. In conclusion, appropriate levels of Se can alleviate intestinal inflammation and inhibit ERS and autophagy in juvenile grass carp. A quadratic regression analysis of intestinal ACP and LZ also indicated that the Se requirements of juvenile grass carp were 0.59 and 0.51 mg/kg, respectively.

ABSTRACT: This study aims to explore the value of real-time strain elastography (RTE) and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) in the diagnosis of breast BI-RADS 4 lesions. It collected 85 cases (totaling 85 lesions) diagnosed with breast BI-RADS 4 through routine ultrasound from October 2020 to December 2022 in Huangshan City People's Hospital. All lesions underwent RTE and CEUS examination before surgery, and the ImageJ software was used to measure the periphery of lesion images in the enhancement peak mode and grayscale mode to calculate the contrast-enhanced ultrasound area ratio. The diagnostic capabilities of single-modal and multimodal ultrasound examination for the malignancy of breast BI-RADS 4 lesions were compared using the receiver operating characteristic curve; the Spearman correlation analysis was adopted to evaluate the correlation between multimodal ultrasound and CEUS area ratio. As a result, among the 85 lesions, 51 were benign, and 34 were malignant. The areas under the curve (AUCs) of routine ultrasound (US), US + RTE, US + CEUS, and US + RTE + CEUS were 0.816, 0.928, 0.953, and 0.967, respectively, with the combined method showing a higher AUC than the single application. The AUC of the CEUS area ratio diagnosing breast lesions was 0.888. There was a strong positive correlation (r = 0.819, P < 0.001) between the diagnostic performance of US + RTE + CEUS and the CEUS area ratio. In conclusion, based on routine ultrasound, the combination of RTE and CEUS can further improve the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant lesions in breast BI-RADS 4.

An advanced biodegradable packaging film with antimicrobial and fresh-maintaining functions was constructed by incorporating berberine and L-arginine into the starch/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) film matrix. The film was endowed with a dual antibacterial capacity thanks to the intrinsic antibacterial capability of berberine and cascaded photodynamic sterilization. The aggregated berberine presents an excellent photodynamic activity to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), which further triggers the NO release from L-arginine. Under the synergetic action of ROS and NO, the as-prepared film not only has an antibacterial efficiency of over 99 % against both S. aureus and E. coli but also delays fruit ripening through antagonistic effects on ethylene to extend the shelf life of food. Meanwhile, the as-prepared film presents UV-shielding properties, thermal stability, and considerable mechanical properties. Specifically, the packaging film exhibits good biocompatibility and is biodegradable, with a degradation rate of 56 % within 16 days, which has great potential for improving food safety and environmental events.

Recent decades of epidemiological and clinical research have suggested that heat exposure could be a potential risk factor for ischemic stroke. Despite climate factors having a minor impact on individuals compared with established risk factors such as smoking, their widespread and persistent effects significantly affect public health. The mechanisms by which heat exposure triggers ischemic stroke are currently unclear. However, several potential mechanisms, such as the impact of temperature variability on stroke risk factors, inflammation, oxidative stress, and coagulation system changes, have been proposed. This article details the potential mechanisms by which heat exposure may induce ischemic stroke, aiming to guide the prevention and treatment of high-risk groups in hot climates and support public health policy development.

Backgroud: Human epithelial growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) amplification is an important mechanism of acquired resistance to anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) therapy in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. For patients with both EGFR mutation and HER2 amplification, there is currently no unified standard treatment, and further exploration is needed on how to choose the therapy. Methods and results: A female NSCLC patient developed bone and brain metastases 14 and 42 months after radical surgery, respectively. The second genetic sequencing detected EGFR L858R mutation and HER2 amplification, and therefore initiated treatment with almonertinib and pyrotinib. The patient achieved partial remission and did not show any further progression during the follow-up period. Conclusion: For NSCLC patients with both EGFR mutation and HER2 amplification, the combination of almonertinib and pyrotinib is a valuable therapy that can continuously reduce tumor burden and achieve long-term survival.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) treatment on depression, and the potential molecular mechanism of EA in depression-like behaviors rats. METHODS: A total of 40 male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into three groups: normal control, chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS), and EA (CUMS + EA). The rats in CUMS and EA groups underwent chronic stress for 10 weeks, and EA group rats received EA treatment for 4 weeks starting from week 7. Body weight and behavioral tests, including the sucrose preference test (SPT), the forced swimming test (FST), and the open field test (OFT) were monitored. Gut microbiota composition was assessed via 16S rDNA sequencing, and lipid metabolism was analyzed by using UPLC-Q-TOF/MS technology. RESULTS: In comparison to CUMS group, EA could improve the behavior including bodyweight, immovability time, sucrose preference index, crossing piece index and rearing times index. After 4 weeks of EA treatment, 5-HT in hippocampus, serum and colon of depressive rats were simultaneously increased, indicating a potential alleviation of depression-like behaviors. In future studies revealed that EA could regulate the distribution and functions of gut microbiota, and improve the intestinal barrier function of CUMS rats. The regulation of intestinal microbial homeostasis by EA may further affect lipid metabolism in CUMS rats, and thus play an antidepressant role. CONCLUSION: This study suggested that EA has potential antidepressant effects by regulating gut microbiota composition and abundance, subsequently affecting lipid metabolism.

Objective: This study aims to explore the relationship between cardiovascular calcification (CVC) and serum levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and its subfractions in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Methods: HD patients and healthy participants were recruited based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. Various blood indicators were measured, and demographic information was recorded. HDL-C particle levels were quantified using lipophilic fluorescent dye staining and capillary electrophoresis (microfluidic platform). Coronary artery calcium scores and valve calcification were used to classify HD patients into calcification and non-calcification groups. Results: Compared to healthy participants, HD patients showed a significant increase in HDL-C, high-density lipoprotein 2 cholesterol (HDL2-C), and high-density lipoprotein 3 cholesterol (HDL3-C) levels (p < 0.001). Further division of HD patients into calcification and non-calcification groups revealed higher serum HDL3-C concentrations (p = 0.002) and a higher HDL3-C/HDL-C ratio (p = 0.04) in the calcification group. Additionally, elevated HDL3-C levels were found to be an independent risk factor for CVC in HD patients (p = 0.040). The ROC curve analysis showed an AUC value of 0.706 for HDL3-C (p = 0.002). Conclusion: Our study indicates that elevated serum HDL3-C levels in HD patients are an independent risk factor for CVC and can serve as a potential predictor for CVC events. However, more studies need to verify its potential as a predictive indicator..

BACKGROUND: Influenza A and B virus detection is pivotal in epidemiological surveillance and disease management. Rapid and accurate diagnostic techniques are crucial for timely clinical intervention and outbreak prevention. Quantum dot-encoded microspheres have been widely used in immunodetection. The integration of quantum dot-encoded microspheres with flow cytometry is a well-established technique that enables rapid analysis. Thus, establishing a multiplex detection method for influenza A and B virus antigens based on flow cytometry quantum dot microspheres will help in disease diagnosis. AIM: To establish a codetection method of influenza A and B virus antigens based on flow cytometry quantum dot-encoded microsphere technology, which forms the foundation for the assays of multiple respiratory virus biomarkers. METHODS: Different quantum dot-encoded microspheres were used to couple the monoclonal antibodies against influenza A and B. The known influenza A and B antigens were detected both separately and simultaneously on a flow cytometer, and the detection conditions were optimized to establish the influenza A and B antigen codetection method, which was utilized for their detection in clinical samples. The results were compared with the fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method to validate the clinical performance of this method. RESULTS: The limits of detection of this method were 26.1 and 10.7 pg/mL for influenza A and B antigens, respectively, which both ranged from 15.6 to 250000 pg/mL. In the clinical sample evaluation, the proposed method well correlated with the fluorescent quantitative PCR method, with positive, negative, and overall compliance rates of 57.4%, 100%, and 71.6%, respectively. CONCLUSION: A multiplex assay for quantitative detection of influenza A and B virus antigens has been established, which is characterized by high sensitivity, good specificity, and a wide detection range and is promising for clinical applications.

Game theory-inspired deep learning using a generative adversarial network provides an environment to competitively interact and accomplish a goal. In the context of medical imaging, most work has focused on achieving single tasks such as improving image resolution, segmenting images, and correcting motion artifacts. We developed a dual-objective adversarial learning framework that simultaneously 1) reconstructs higher quality brain magnetic resonance images (MRIs) that 2) retain disease-specific imaging features critical for predicting progression from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to Alzheimer's disease (AD). We obtained 3-Tesla, T1-weighted brain MRIs of participants from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI, N=342) and the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC, N = 190) datasets. We simulated MRIs with missing data by removing 50% of sagittal slices from the original scans (i.e., diced scans). The generator was trained to reconstruct brain MRIs using the diced scans as input. We introduced a classifier into the GAN architecture to discriminate between stable (i.e., sMCI) and progressive MCI (i.e., pMCI) based on the generated images to facilitate encoding of disease-related information during reconstruction. The framework was trained using ADNI data and externally validated on NACC data. In the NACC cohort, generated images had better image quality than the diced scans (Structural similarity (SSIM) index: 0.553 ± 0.116 versus 0.348 ± 0.108). Furthermore, a classifier utilizing the generated images distinguished pMCI from sMCI more accurately than with the diced scans (F1-score: 0.634 ± 0.019 versus 0.573 ± 0.028). Competitive deep learning has potential to facilitate disease-oriented image reconstruction in those at risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.

BACKGROUND: The effects of a diverse spectrum of malaria interventions were evaluated through a deterministic Plasmodium vivax transmission model. This approach aimed to provide theoretical evidence of the performance of these interventions once implemented for achieving malaria elimination. METHODS: An integrated intervention portfolio, including mass drug administration, insecticide treatment, and untreated bed nets, was analyzed through modeling. Additionally, data-driven calibration was implemented to infer coverages that effectively reproduced historical malaria patterns in China from 1971 to 1983. RESULTS: MDA utilizing primaquine emerged as the most effective single intervention, achieving a 70% reduction in malaria incidence when implemented at full coverage. Furthermore, a strategic combination of MDA with primaquine, chloroquine, untreated bed nets, and seasonal insecticide treatments effectively eradicated malaria, attaining elimination at a coverage level of 70%. It was conclusively demonstrated that an integrated approach combining MDA and vector control measures is essential for the successful elimination of malaria. CONCLUSION: High coverage of mass drug administration with primaquine and chloroquine before transmission was the key driver of the malaria decline in China from 1971 to 1983. The best-fit intervention coverage combinations derived from calibration are provided as a reference for malaria control in other countries.

BACKGROUND: Common metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), hypertension, obesity, hypercholesterolemia, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), have become a global health burden in the last three decades. The Global Burden of Disease, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) data enables the first insights into the trends and burdens of these metabolic diseases from 1990 to 2021, highlighting regional, temporal and differences by sex. METHODS: Global estimates of disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) and deaths from GBD 2021 were analyzed for common metabolic diseases (T2DM, hypertension, obesity, hypercholesterolemia, and MASLD). Age-standardized DALYs (mortality) per 100,000 population and annual percentage change (APC) between 1990 and 2021 were estimated for trend analyses. Estimates are reported with uncertainty intervals (UI). RESULTS: In 2021, among five common metabolic diseases, hypertension had the greatest burden (226 million [95 % UI: 190-259] DALYs), whilst T2DM (75 million [95 % UI: 63-90] DALYs) conferred much greater disability than MASLD (3.67 million [95 % UI: 2.90-4.61]). The highest absolute burden continues to be found in the most populous countries of the world, particularly India, China, and the United States, whilst the highest relative burden was mostly concentrated in Oceania Island states. The burden of these metabolic diseases has continued to increase over the past three decades but has varied in the rate of increase (1.6-fold to 3-fold increase). The burden of T2DM (0.42 % [95 % UI: 0.34-0.51]) and obesity (0.26 % [95 % UI: 0.17-0.34]) has increased at an accelerated rate, while the rate of increase for the burden of hypertension (-0.30 % [95 % UI: -0.34 to -0.25]) and hypercholesterolemia (-0.33 % [95 % UI: -0.37 to -0.30]) is slowing. There is no significant change in MASLD over time (0.05 % [95 % UI: -0.06 to 0.17]). CONCLUSION: In the 21st century, common metabolic diseases are presenting a significant global health challenge. There is a concerning surge in DALYs and mortality associated with these conditions, underscoring the necessity for a coordinated global health initiative to stem the tide of these debilitating diseases and improve population health outcomes worldwide.

A new trifluoroacetylation reagent was developed by using inexpensive and readily available trifluoroacetic anhydride and N-phenyl-4-methylbenzenesulfonamide for the first time. The reaction of (het)aryl boronic acids with the new trifluoroacetylation reagent, N-phenyl-N-tosyltrifluoroacetamide, proceeded smoothly in the presence of a palladium catalyst to provide trifluoromethyl ketones in satisfactory to excellent yields. Various groups, including the synthetically useful functional groups Cl, TMS, and PhCO, were tolerated well under the current reaction conditions. This new trifluoroacetylation reagent can be used in the large-scale synthesis of trifluoromethyl ketones, even at a low palladium catalyst loading.

The aim of the study was to compare the efficacy and safety of robot-assisted (RA) percutaneous hollow screw fixation with traditional open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) for the treatment of calcaneal fractures through a systematic review and meta-analysis. An extensive search was conducted in the following databases-PubMed, CNKI, Embase, and the Cochrane Library-to gather research on patients with calcaneal fractures published up to July 2024. This search focuses on studies comparing the effectiveness of robot-assisted percutaneous cannulated screw fixation versus ORIF. We will include studies published in both English and Chinese. Our screening process adhered strictly to predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, emphasizing randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies. The ROBINS-I tool was utilized to evaluate the risk of bias in non-randomized studies. Meta-analysis was conducted using Review Manager 5.4.1. The final analysis incorporated six retrospective cohort studies comprising 247 patients-122 treated with robotic-assisted percutaneous cannulated screw fixation and 125 with conventional open reduction and internal fixation. The findings indicated that patients undergoing robotic-assisted percutaneous cannulated screw fixation experienced advantages over those receiving conventional treatment in terms of reduced hospital stay, lower estimated blood loss, and higher AOFAS scores at both 3 and 6 months. No statistically significant differences were observed between the two methods concerning operative time, fracture healing duration, or the frequency of intraoperative fluoroscopies. Robotic-assisted percutaneous cannulated screw fixation is a safe and viable treatment approach for patients with calcaneal fractures. When compared to ORIF methods, this robotic-assisted technique demonstrated significant benefits, including reduced hospital stay, lower estimated blood loss, and improved AOFAS scores at both 3 and 6 months.

Gynecological cancer significantly affect the health of women. This review aimed to describe the global patterns and trends in the survival of patients with gynecological cancers. We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, SinoMed, and SEER for survival analyses of cancer registration data of cervical, endometrial, and ovarian cancers published between 1980 and 2022. Globally, the highest 5-year observed survival rate for cervical cancer was 76.5% in Anshan, Liaoning, China (2008-2017). The 5-year observed survival rates of endometrial and ovarian cancers were higher in Finland (1995-1999, 82.5%) and Singapore (1988-1992, 62.0%). The 5-year relative survival rate of cervical cancer patients was higher in Haining, Zhejiang, China (2011-2014, 85.8%). Korea ranked first at 89.0% and 64.5% for endometrial and ovarian cancers, respectively. Survival rates have improved for cervical, endometrial, and ovarian cancers. Patients aged ≥ 75 years and those with advanced-stage disease had the worst 5-year survival rates. Survival rates were better for squamous cell carcinoma in cervical cancer, for endometrial carcinoma and mucinous adenocarcinoma in endometrial cancer, and for germ cell and sex-cord stromal tumors in ovarian cancer. Over the past four decades, the survival rates of gynecological cancers have increased globally, with notable increases in cervical and endometrial cancers. Survival rates are higher in developed countries, with a slow-growing trend. Future studies should focus on improving survival, especially in ovarian cancer patients.

Why lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) was associated with a decreased atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk but an increased hemorrhagic stroke (HS) risk in hypertensive adults remains unclear. We examined whether the inverse LDL-C-HS association partly arises from its effect on ASCVD. We estimated separable effects of LDL-C on HS outside (i.e., separable direct effect) or only through its effect on ASCVD (i.e., separable indirect effect) in hypertensive adults from the Chinese Multi-provincial Cohort Study. We quantified such effects using numbers needed to treat (NNT) to prevent or cause an extra HS based on the restricted mean event-free time till a 25-year follow-up. LDL-C $<$ 70 mg/dL was not associated with an increased HS risk compared to LDL-C $\ge$ 70 mg/dL regarding total and separable direct effects. However, a small separable indirect effect (i.e., NNT to harm: 9722 participants) was noted and validated via a series of sensitivity analyses. Moreover, modified effects were observed, particularly in the 35-49-year age group, men, and those with SBP $\ge$ 140 mm Hg. These results suggest the inverse LDL-C-HS association in hypertensive adults is partly due to its effect on ASCVD. A better understanding of such associations would provide more enlightening into stroke prevention.

Increasing evidence shows the potential threat of gill rot in freshwater fish culture. F. columnare is wide-spread in aquatic environments, which can cause fish gill rot and result in high mortality and losses of fish. This study investigated the effects of myo-inositol (MI) on the proliferation, structural integrity, and different death modes of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) gill epithelial cells, as well as its possible mechanism. 30 mg/L MI up-regulated CCK8 OD value and the protein level of solute carrier family 5A 3 (SLC5A3), and down-regulated the reactive oxygen species (ROS) content in gill cells and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release in the culture medium (P < 0.05). MI up-regulated the protein level of Beclin1, the protein level and fluorescence expression of microtubule-associated protein light chain 3B (LC3B) and down-regulated the protein level of sequestosome-1 (SQSTM1, also called p62) (P < 0.05). MI down-regulated the protein levels of Cysteine aspartate protease-1 (caspase-1), Gasdermin E (GSDME) and Cleaved interleukin 1 beta (IL-1ß) (P < 0.05). MI up-regulated the protein level of caspase-8 (P < 0.05), but had no effect on apoptosis (P > 0.05). MI down-regulated the mRNA expressions and protein levels of tumor necrosis factor α (tnfα), TNF receptor 1 (tnfr1), receptor interacting protein 1 (ripk1), receptor interacting protein 3 (ripk3) and mixed lineage kinase domain-like protein (mlkl), and reduce the ratio of p-MLKL/MLKL (P < 0.05). The addition of MI or necrosulfonamide (NSA) alone, or the addition of MI after induction of necroptosis, significantly up-regulated the cell activity and the protein level of SLC5A3 in gill cells, and significantly reduced the LDH release in the culture medium and the intracellular ROS content, the number of necroptosis cells, the protein expression of TNFα, TNFR1 and RIPK1, and the ratio of p-RIPK3/RIPK3 and p-MLKL/MLKL (P < 0.05). It indicated MI induce autophagy may relate to Beclin1/LC3/p62 signaling pathway, inhibits pyroptosis may attribute to Caspase-1/GSDMD/IL-1ß signaling pathway, and inhibits necroptosis via MLKL signaling pathway. However, MI had no effect on apoptosis.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify the incidence, risk factors, and outcomes of permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) procedures. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 70 patients who underwent TAVI at the Department of Cardiology, Fujian Provincial Hospital, from January 2018 to March 2022. Based on whether a new PPM was implanted after TAVI, all patients were divided into two groups: NEW PPM and NO PPM. Baseline characteristics and clinical data were compared between the two groups. Univariate analysis was used to analyze different variables between the two groups. A binary logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate independent correlates for PPM implantation after TAVI. RESULTS: The mean age of the 70 patients was 73.1 ± 8.8 years. The incidence of PPM implantation was 17.1%. Patients with diabetes and chronic kidney disease were more likely to require PPM (50% vs. 20.7%, p = 0.042, 25% vs. 5.2%, p = 0.042). Our study did not identify any significant differences in the incidence of electrocardiographic conduction disturbances except for the previous right bundle branch block (RBBB) (NO PPM 6.9% vs. NEW PPM 33.3%, p < 0.05). We found that prosthesis size, implantation depth, procedural duration, and length of hospital and intensive care unit (ICU) stays were comparable between the two groups. The leading independent predictors of PPM implantation were previous RBBB (odds ratio 10.129, p = 0.034). CONCLUSION: The previous RBBB was the leading independent predictor of PPM implantation. New PPM was not associated with significantly new-onset left BBB, extended post-procedure hospitalization, ICU stay, or procedural duration.
