RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Hemorrhagic stroke may cause changes in intracranial pressure (ICP) and cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP), which may influence the prognosis of patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between early ICP, CPP, and 28-day mortality in the intensive care unit (ICU) of patients with hemorrhagic stroke. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective study was performed using the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC-IV) and the eICU Collaborative Research Database (eICU-CRD), including hemorrhagic stroke patients in the ICU with recorded ICP monitoring. The median values of ICP and CPP were collected for the first 24 h of the patient's monitoring. The primary outcome was 28-day ICU mortality. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards models were used to analyze the relationship between ICP, CPP, and 28-day ICU mortality. Restricted cubic regression splines were used to analyze nonlinear relationships. RESULTS: The study included 837 patients with a 28-day ICU mortality rate of 19.4%. Multivariable analysis revealed a significant correlation between early ICP and 28-day ICU mortality (HR 1.08, 95% CI 1.04-1.12, p < 0.01), whereas early CPP showed no correlation with 28-day ICU mortality (HR 1.00, 95% CI 0.98-1.01, p = 0.57), with a correlation only evident when CPP < 60 mmHg (HR 1.99, 95% CI 1.14-3.48, p = 0.01). The study also identified an early ICP threshold of 16.5 mmHg. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Early ICP shows a correlation with 28-day mortality in hemorrhagic stroke patients, with a potential intervention threshold of 16.5 mmHg. In contrast, early CPP showed no correlation with patient prognosis.

RESUMO

In this study, keratins were extracted from pig nail waste through the reduction method using L-cysteine as a reductant. Curcumin was successively incorporated in a mixed solution including keratin, gelatin, and glycerin to prepare different kinds of keratin/gelatin/glycerin/curcumin composite films. The morphology of the keratin/ gelatin/glycerin/curcumin composite films were examined using scanning electron microscopy. The structures and the molecular interactions between curcumin, keratin, and pectin were examined using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction, and the thermal properties were determined through thermogravimetric analysis. The tensile strengths of keratin/gelatin/glycerin/curcumin and keratin/gelatin/curcumin composite films are 13.73 and 12.45 MPa, respectively, and their respective elongations at break are 56.7% and 4.6%. In addition, compared with the control group (no film wrapped on the surface of tomato), the ratio of weight loss of the keratin (7.0%)/gelatin (10%)/glycerin (2.0%)/curcumin (1.0%) experimental groups is 8.76 ± 0.2%, and the hardness value of the tomatoes wrapped with composite films is 11.2 ± 0.39 kg/cm3. Finally, the composite films have a superior antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli because of the addition of curcumin. As the concentration of curcumin reaches 1.0%, the antibacterial activity effect of the film is significantly improved. The diameter of the inhibition zone of E. coli is (12.16 ± 0.53) mm, and that of S. aureus is (14.532 ± 0.97) mm. The multifunctional keratin/gelatin/glycerin/curcumin bioactive films have great potential application in the food packaging industry.

RESUMO

Intense interest has been given to the fabrication of micro-through-holes with smaller tapering and higher aspect ratios in engineering ceramics due to their wide range of applications in MEMS and aerospace. A semi-water-immersed laser micro-trepanning (SWILT) scheme is proposed and investigated in this paper with alumina ceramics as the target material, and its performance is assessed and compared with the direct laser trepanning method. Relevant processing parameters influencing the trepanning process are explored through an orthogonally designed experiment, and their effects on hole profiles are adequately discussed to yield optimized parameters. It is revealed that SWILT is capable of producing micro-through-holes with minimized hole tapering and much straighter sidewalls compared with the direct trepanning results, whereas the ablated surface quality is relatively rougher. The micro-through-hole formation mechanisms are also amply analyzed, where the transition hole development may be purely attributed to the laser-material interaction in the direct laser trepanning condition, while the SWILT case features an enhanced material-removal rate, especially at the lower part of the through-hole. The latter is due to the strengthened mechanical effects coming from the water-confined plasma zone and the following cavitation bubble collapse, which may efficiently expel the molten material from sidewalls and result in significantly reduced hole tapering.

RESUMO

The fabrication of micro-holes in silicon substrates that have a proper taper, higher depth-to-diameter ratio, and better surface quality has been attracting intense interest for a long time due to its importance in the semiconductor and MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical System) industry. In this paper, an experimental investigation of the machining performance of the direct and chemical-assisted picosecond laser trepanning of single crystalline silicon is conducted, with a view to assess the two machining methods. The relevant parameters affecting the trepanning process are considered, employing the orthogonal experimental design scheme. It is found that the direct laser trepanning results are associated with evident thermal defects, while the chemical-assisted method is capable of machining micro-holes with negligible thermal damage. Range analysis is then carried out, and the effects of the processing parameters on the hole characteristics are amply discussed to obtain the recommended parameters. Finally, the material removal mechanisms that are involved in the two machining methods are adequately analyzed. For the chemical-assisted trepanning case, the enhanced material removal rate may be attributed to the serious mechanical effects caused by the liquid-confined plasma and cavitation bubbles, and the chemical etching effect provided by NaOH solution.
