RESUMO

Background and objective: Hemorheology and blood glucose are commonly used to estimate the risks of thrombosis and stress hyperglycemia after anaesthesia. The sequence of acupoint stimulation might influence the therapeutic effects of acupuncture. In the current study, we aimed at investigating the effect of different acupuncture sequences of "Huiyangjiuzhen" acupoints on the blood glucose and hemorheology in anesthetized rabbits. Methods: Twenty-five rabbits were randomly divided into five groups, including the control group (CG), the positive-sequence group (PSG), the reverse-sequence group (RSG), the disorder-sequence group (DSG), and the random group (RG). Except for the CG and RG, the rabbits in other groups were acupunctured with different sequences of "Huiyangjiuzhen"acupoints when the rabbits were anesthetized. The acupoints in rabbits of the RG were chosen randomly. The levels of blood glucose and hemorheology indexes before and after anaesthesia was detected. Results: In the PSG, Hηb 200/s, Mηb 30/s, Hηr 200/s, ERI, hematocrit and plasma viscosity levels were decreased, and the blood glucose level was not changed. In the DSG, the levels of Mηb 30/s and hematocrit were decreased, and the blood glucose was increased. In the CG, RSG and RG, no hemorheology indexes were changed and the blood glucose was increased. Conclusion: "Huiyangjiuzhen" acupuncture could decrease the risks of post-operative thrombosis and stress hyperglycemia in anesthetized rabbits. This effectiveness depends on both acupuncture and acupuncture sequence at the "Huiyangjiuzhen" acupoints.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Electroacupuncture (EA) can effectively relieve visceral hypersensitivity (VH). However, its mechanisms are still unclear. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the impact of EA on VH caused by ileitis, and whether EA relieves VH by modulating the endogenous cannabinoid system (ECS). METHODS: Thirty male native goats were randomly divided into a saline-treated control group (Saline, n = 9) and three 2,4,6-trinitro-benzenesulfonic acid (TNBS)-treated VH model groups that underwent injection of TNBS into the ileal wall to induce VH and remained untreated (TNBS, n = 9) or received six sessions of EA (for 30 min every 3 days) (TNBS + EA, n = 6) or sham acupuncture (TNBS + Sham, n = 6). The visceromotor response (VMR) to colorectal distention (CRD) was measured after each EA treatment. Three goats in the Saline/TNBS groups were euthanized after 7 days for histopathological examination; the remaining 24 (n = 6/group) underwent sampling of the ileal wall, T11 spinal cord and brain nuclei/areas related to visceral regulation and ascending pain modulation system on day 22. Expression of cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1R), fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) and monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL) was detected by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: VMR to CRD was greater in TNBS-treated goats than in saline-treated goats (p < 0.01) from day 7 to 22. After day 7, EA-treated goats showed a decreased (p < 0.05) VMR compared with untreated TNBS-exposed goats. TNBS treatment decreased CB1R and increased FAAH and MAGL expression in the ileum and related nuclei/areas; this was reversed by EA. CONCLUSION: EA ameliorates VH, probably by regulating the ECS in the intestine and nuclei/areas related to visceral regulation and descending pain modulation systems.

RESUMO

Inflammatory lung injury is a common respiratory disease with limited therapeutic effects. Increasing opinions approved that prevention is more important than drug treatment for inflammatory lung injury. Astragalus polysaccharides (APS) has multiple bioactivities including anti-inflammation and immunoregulation. However, its preventive effects on inflammatory lung injury remain unclear. In this study, mice were pretreated with APS via intragastric gavage and then were intratracheally instilled with lipopolysaccharides (LPS) to determine the role of APS in preventing lung injury. The results showed that APS pre-treatment improved the pathological changes of lung tissues, reduced the neutrophils infiltration, and inhibited the LPS-induced inflammation. Increasing evidence confirmed the close relationship between intestinal microbiota and lung inflammatory response. 16S rRNA analysis showed that APS treatment changed the microbiota composition in colon, increased the abundance of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs)-producing genus such as Oscillospira, Akkermansia, and Coprococcus. Also, APS treatment significantly increased the serum concentrations of SCFAs including butyrate and propionate, and their anti-inflammation effects were demonstrated on mice primary alveolar macrophages. Our data confirmed the preventive effects of APS on LPS-induced lung injury, which were partly contributed by the alteration of intestinal microbiota composition and the resulting increase of serum SCFAs.

RESUMO

Objective: To understand the relationship between female breast cancer and occupational risk factors in Beijing, and provide scientific basis for the formulation of prevention strategies and measures. Methods: From June to December 2019, A 1: 1 case-control study was adopted, eight medical institutions in Beijing were selected as the research objects. Patients with breast cancer diagnosed by medical institutions were selected as case group and non breast cancer patients in the same medical institution as control group. A total of 973 subjects were included, including 495 in the case group and 478 in the control group. A one-to-one survey was conducted using a questionnaire uniformly compiled by the Beijing Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The survey content mainly includes basic demographic characteristics and occupational risk factors. The Trait Coping Style Questionnaire (TCSQ) was used to investigate the corresponding methods, including two aspects: positive coping and negative coping. First, chi square test or Wilcoxon rank sum test were used for univariate analysis. Then Lasso regression was used to screen the risk factors of breast cancer. Finally, the risk factors were screened by multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: Education lovel was 49.64%, body mass index (BMI) was 18.4~23.9 kg/m(2), accounting for 48.82%, marital status ws 84.48%. Compared with no night shift history, there was a significant increase in risk of breast cancer at night shift history (OR=1.70, 95% CI: 1.25~2.30, P<0.05) . Compared with most of the sitting posture and sometimes standing, the risk of breast cancer was increased, and the difference was statistically significant (OR=2.01, 95%CI: 1.40~2.90, P<0.05) . Conclusion: In the occupation risk factors, night shift work and working posture are related to the incidence of breast cancer in women, establishing a good schedule and avoiding long standing can effectively prevent and reduce the occurrence of breast cancer.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the active surveillance results of occupational pneumoconiosis(hereinafter referred to as “pneumoconiosis”) in Beijing in 2019. METHODS: A total of 2 634 dust exposed workers were recruited as the active surveillance subjects by judgment sampling method. The abnormalities and influencing factors of High kV or digital photography of posterior-anterior chest radiography(hereinafter referred to as “chest radiography”) and lung function were analyzed. RESULTS: The detection rate of abnormal chest radiograph and pulmonary dysfunction were 14.0%(368/2 634) and 6.6%(175/2 634), respectively. The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the risk of abnormal chest radiograph in dust-exposed workers increased with age(P<0.01). Mining and construction workers had higher risk of abnormal chest radiograph than manufacturers(all P<0.05). The risk of abnormal chest radiograph of dusk-exposed workers in state-owned and foreign enterprises was higher than that of workers in private enterprises(P<0.05). The risk of pulmonary dysfunction was increased with age and length of dust exposure(all P<0.05). Workers exposed to silica dust and aluminum dust had higher risks than those exposed to welding dust(all P<0.01). The risk of pulmonary dysfunction of workers in small and micro enterprises was higher than that of workers in large enterprises(all P<0.01). Mining workers had higher risks of pulmonary dysfunction than manufacturing workers(P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Age, length of dust exposure, dust type, industry type, enterprise scale and economic type were the influencing factors of lung injury of dust exposed workers. Therefore, the supervision of key population and industries should be strengthened to reduce the occurrence of pneumoconiosis.

RESUMO

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Huai hua san (HHS) is a traditional Chinese herbal formula which is firstly documented in the ancient Chinese classic medical work "Pu Ji Ben Shi Fang" in 1132 AD. It has been widely used in the treatment of lower gastrointestinal disorders such as acute colitis and hematochezia for more than 800 years. However, scientific evidence of the efficacy and the exact mechanism of HHS against colitis has not yet been reported. AIM OF THE STUDY: The aim of this study is to investigate the potential effects of HHS in the alleviation of dextran sulphate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis and the alteration of colonic microbiota composition and structure. MATERIALS AND METHODS: HHS solution was orally administrated to 5% DSS-challenged rats once a day for 8 days. Colitis clinical symptoms of colitis were collected, together with colonic mucosal damage assessed at histomorphometric and ultrastructural levels. The protein levels of inflammatory mediators TNF-α and CRP were detected by ELISA. The colonic vascular permeability was evaluated by Evans blue extravasation. Meanwhile, The effects of the HHS therapy on the colonic microbiota were evaluated by analyzing the V3 and V4 regions of the 16S rRNA gene by Illumina sequencing and multivariate statistical methods. RESULTS: Daily oral administration of HHS markedly alleviated DSS-induced colitis, as evidenced by decreased colitis disease activity index (DAI) score, reduced colonic inflammation and normalization of colonic vascular hyperpermeability. Moreover, the 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis demonstrated that HHS treatment during colitis prevented the colitis-associated alteration of colonic microbial community at operational taxonomic unit level, together with the DSS-induced colonic microbiota dysbiosis at taxonomic levels. In addition, HHS therapy reduced colitis-associated high increased ratio of Bacteroidetes to Firmicutes to a normal level. CONCLUSION: HHS could attenuate ulcerative colitis and ameliorate gut microbial dysbiosis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Positive surgical margins are independent risk factor for biochemical recurrence, local recurrence, and distant metastasis after radical prostatectomy. However, limited predictive tools are available. This study aimed to develop and validate a preoperative nomogram for predicting positive surgical margins after laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP). METHODS: From January 2010 to March 2016, a total of 418 patients who underwent LRP without receiving neoadjuvant therapy at Peking University Third Hospital were retrospectively involved in this study. Clinical and pathological results of each patient were collected for further analysis. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression (backward stepwise method) were used for the nomogram development. The concordance index (CI), calibration curve analysis and decision curve analysis were used to evaluate the performance of our model. RESULTS: Of 418 patients involved in this study, 142 patients (34.0%) had a positive surgical margin on final pathology. Based on the backward selection, four variables were included in the final multivariable regression model, including the percentage of positive cores in preoperative biopsy, clinical stage, free prostate specific antigen (fPSA)/total PSA (tPSA), and age. A nomogram was developed using these four variables. The concordance index (C-index) of the nomogram was 0.722 in the development cohort and 0.700 in the bootstrap validations. The bias-corrected calibration plot showed a limited departure from the ideal line with a mean absolute error of 2.0%. In decision curve analyses, the nomogram showed net benefits in the range from 0.2 to 0.7. CONCLUSION: A nomogram to predict positive surgical margins after LRP was developed and validated, which could help urologists plan surgical procedures.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Intestinal epithelial barrier and intestinal inflammation play indispensable roles in the development of intestinal diseases. The major aims of the current study were to investigate the potential of rhein, a major flavonoid compound isolated from Rheum rhabarbarum, in the treatment of intestinal diseases and its underlying mechanisms in vitro. METHODS: The protective role of rhein on intestinal epithelial barrier was evaluated in a monolayer of IEC-6 cells stimulated by TNF-α, while the anti-inflammatory effects were investigated in an IEC-6 cell model with LPS stimulation. RESULTS: Rhein inhibited the increase of phenol red flux and the decrease of TEER, as well as recovered the expression and distribution of ZO-1 and weakened MLC phosphorylation, MLCK expression and NF-κB activation. Meanwhile, LPS-stimulated IL-1ß and IL-6 were down-regulated, expression levels of TLR4, NLRP3 and cleaved caspase1 were weakened and NF-κB was inactivated. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggested that rhein has potential therapeutic effects against intestinal diseases by maintaining intestinal epithelial barrier and suppressing intestinal inflammation.

RESUMO

Rheum rhabarbarum has been widely used as a herbal medicine and food in China. The objective of this study was to investigate the cytoprotective action and underlying mechanisms of rhein, one active ingredient isolated from R. rhabarbarum, on H2O2-challenged rat small intestine epithelial cells (IEC-6 cells). H2O2-challenged IEC-6 cells were incubated in the pretreatment with or without rhein or LY294002, a PI3K/Akt inhibitor. The cell viability, apoptosis, intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), and antioxidants were measured. The expressions of heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1), nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor (Nrf2), Akt, and p-Akt were evaluated by western blotting. Meanwhile, LY294002 was also used to investigate the role of PI3K/Akt in the rhein-induced cytoprotective role. The results showed that pretreatment of rhein could reverse the inhibition of cell viability and suppress the apoptosis, caspase-3 activity, and intracellular ROS induced by H2O2. Rhein also supported SOD activity catalase activity, glutathione S-transferase activity, and glutathione content. Furthermore, rhein induced the protein expression of HO-1 together with its upstream mediator Nrf2 and activated the phosphorylation of Akt in IEC-6 cells. LY294002 inhibited increased cell viability, upregulated the lowered apoptotic rate, and enhanced the weakened ROS levels. Although the inhibition of PI3K/Akt did not inhibit the Nrf2 nuclear level under 4 µM rhein, LY294002 inhibited the Nrf2 nuclear level under 2 µM rhein and blocked HO-1 expression. These data demonstrated that rhein protected IEC-6 cells against oxidative damage partly via PI3K/Akt and Nrf2/HO-1 pathways.

RESUMO

AIMS: In this study, we explored the underlying mechanisms of protective effects of rhein against intestinal barrier injury in a rat model, induced by intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS). MAIN METHODS: Twenty-four male rats were assigned equally to three groups. Rats were given an oral administration of rhein (66.7 mg/kg/day) or not for three continuous days. LPS or saline were injected intraperitoneally in an hour after the last oral administration. The rats were sacrificed at 7 h after LPS or saline administration. Both blood samples and intestinal samples were collected. KEY FINDINGS: Rhein pretreatment markedly inhibited the levels of serum diamine oxidase (DAO), D-lactate (D-lac) and intestinal histological damage, significantly recovered the levels of intestinal DAO, ZO-1 and occludin. Additionally, rhein suppressed LPS-induced intestinal inflammation and oxidative stress, by decreased serum and intestinal, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-1ß, IL-6 and nitric oxide levels, up-regulated intestinal catalase, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activities and HO-1 expression, and down-regulated malondialdehyde (MDA) level in the small intestine. Finally, rhein inhibited JNK, p38 MAPK phosphorylation and activated Nrf2 pathway. SIGNIFICANCE: Rhein could exert the anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects against LPS-induced intestinal barrier injury by suppressing p38 MAPK and JNK and activating Nrf2 pathway.

RESUMO

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic, idiopathic inflammatory disease of the small and/or large intestine. Endothelial expression of inflammatory mediators, including cytokines and adhesion molecules, serves a critical role in the initiation and progression of IBD. The dietary flavonoid, kaempferol, has been reported to inhibit expression of inflammatory mediators; however, the underlying mechanisms require further investigation. In the present study, a novel molecular mechanism of kaempferol against IBD was identified. The potential antiinflammatory effect of kaempferol in a cellular model of intestinal inflammation was assessed using lipopolysaccharide (LPS)induced rat intestinal microvascular endothelial cells (RIMVECs), and an underlying key molecular mechanism was identified. RIMVECs were pretreated with kaempferol of various concentrations (12.5, 25 and 50 µM) followed by LPS (10 µg/ml) stimulation. ELISA was used to examine the protein levels of tumor necrosis factorα (TNFα), interleukin1ß (IL1ß), IL6, intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM1) in the supernatant. Protein expression levels of Tolllike receptor 4 (TLR4), nuclear factorκB (NFκB) p65, inhibitor of NFκB, mitogenactivated protein kinase p38 and signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) in cells were measured by western blotting. Kaempferol significantly reduced the overproduction of TNFα, IL1ß, interleukin6, ICAM1 and VCAM1 induced by LPS, indicating the negative regulation of kaempferol in TLR4, NFκB and STAT signaling underlying intestinal inflammation. The present results provide support for the potential use of kaempferol as an effective therapeutic agent for IBD treatment.

RESUMO

Tetrahydroxystilbene glucoside (TSG) is a unique component of the bone-reinforcing herb Radix Polygoni Multiflori Preparata (RPMP). It has the ability to promote bone formation and protect osteoblasts. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. To better understand its biological function, we determined TSG's effect on murine pre-osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells by the MTT assay, flow cytometry, FQ-PCR, Western blot, and ELISA. The results showed that TSG caused an elevation of the MC3T3-E1 cell number, the number of cells in the S phase, and the mRNA levels of the runt-related transcription factor-2 (Runx2), osterix (Osx), and collagen type I α1 (Col1a1). In addition, the osteoprotegerin (OPG) mRNA level was up-regulated, while the nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL) and macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) mRNA levels were down-regulated by TSG. Furthermore, TSG activated the phosphoinosmde-3-kinase/protein kinase B (also known as PI3K/Akt) pathway, and blocking this pathway by the inhibitor LY-294002 could impair TSG's functions in relation to the MC3T3-E1 cells. In conclusion, TSG could activate the PI3K/Akt pathway and thus promote MC3T3-E1 cell proliferation and differentiation, and influence OPG/RANKL/M-CSF expression. TSG merits further investigation as a potential therapeutic agent for osteoporosis treatment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In inflammatory bowel disease, activation of microvascular endothelial cells and adhesion of immune cells are required for the initiation and maintenance of inflammation. We evaluated the effects and mechanisms of quercetin, a flavone identified in a wide variety of dietary sources, in LPS-induced rat intestinal microvascular endothelial cells (RIMVECs). METHODS: RIMVECs were pretreated with quercetin of various concentrations (20, 40 and 80 µM) followed by LPS (10 µg/ml) stimulation. ELISA was used to examine protein levels of intercellular adhesion molecules-1 (ICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) in the supernatant. Protein levels of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), nuclear transcription factor kappa B (NF-κB) p65, inhibitors of NF-κB (IκB-α), extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), c-jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) p38 and signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) in cells were measured by Western blot. RESULTS: Quercetin significantly suppressed protein levels of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 induced by LPS. Quercetin also inhibited TLR4 expression, NF-κB p65, ERK, JNK and STAT phosphorylation and decreased IκB-α degradation. Moreover, the MAPK p38 signal does not contribute to the anti-inflammatory effects on RIMVECs, although LPS significantly increases its phosphorylation. CONCLUSIONS: These results indicate that quercetin may have an anti-inflammatory effect by inhibiting expression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 in RIMVECs by suppressing TLR4, NF-κB, ERK, JNK and STAT but not the p38 signaling pathway.

RESUMO

Objective@#To investigate the status of abnormal menstruation in female nurses in a comprehensive hospital in Beijing, China and related influencing factors.@*Methods@#In July 2016, a cross-sectional survey was performed, and a self-administered questionnaire was used to investigate the status of menstruation and occupation in female nurses in a comprehensive hospital in Beijing. The chi-square test and a multivariate logistic regression analysis were used for statistical analysis.@*Results@#A total of 892 female nurses were investigated, and among them, 485 experienced abnormal menstruation within the past three months, resulting in an abnormal menstruation rate of 54.37%. The female nurses who were exposed to harmful factors during work, negative life events, or high workload had a significantly higher abnormal menstruation rate than those who were not exposed to such factors (χ2=5.199, 16.186, and 10.227, P<0.05 or P<0.01) . Negative life events (odds ratio [OR]=1.813, 95% confidence interval[CI]: 1.317-2.496) and high workload (OR=1.461, 95%CI: 1.112-1.918) were risk factors for abnormal menstruation.@*Conclusion@#Nurses have an abnormal menstruation rate as high as 54.37%, and high workload and negative life events were risk factors for abnormal menstruation in nurses.

RESUMO

Objective@#To investigate the application of Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90) in Chinese nurses.@*Methods@#We performed a literature search for articles in Chinese on the mental health of nurses investigated using the SCL-90 that were published from January 2007 to December 2016. A total of 129 articles were included, involving 178 groups of valid samples as well as 36316 subjects in 27 provinces or cities in China. The metafor package of R 3.2.1 software and Excel were used for meta-analysis and data statistics.@*Results@#Heterogeneity was identified for the nine factors included in the literature data (Q test: P<0.05; I2 test >40%) , so a random effects model was used. For all factors except interpersonal relationship factor, the 95% confidence intervals of the pooled effect sizes did not include 0. For all factors except interpersonal relationship factor (Egger test: P<0.05) , no significant asymmetry or incompleteness appeared in the funnel plots. The fail-safe number of each factor was much larger than 5k+10. The merger scores and mean values of nine factors were higher than the national norm.@*Conclusion@#The SCL-90 is widely used in the study of mental status of Chinese nurses, but the SCL-90 norm for nurses is lacking.

RESUMO

Objective@#To investigate the prevalence of reproductive system diseases among female workers in a city and related occupational influencing factors.@*Methods@#From June to September, 2016, a cross-sectional survey was used to select 9 944 female workers from six districts of Beijing and then a face-to-face questionnaire survey was performed. Univariate analysis using chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to investigate the risk factors for reproductive system diseases.@*Results@#The age of 9944 female workers ranged from 18 to 65 years (mean 35.53±9.52 years) , and among them, 7 351 (73.92%) were married. The overall prevalence rate of reproductive system diseases among these 9944 female workers during the past three months was 28.29%, and the prevalence rates of hyperplasia of mammary glands, vaginitis, and hysteromyoma were 15.54%, 11.25%, and 6.77%, respectively. After adjustment for age, marital status, education level, and annual family income, the multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that frequent overtime work (odds ratio[OR]=1.119, 95% confidence interval[CI]: 1.070-1.343) , frequent night shifts (OR=1.198, 95%CI: 1.054-1.361) , standing for a long time (OR=1.197, 95%CI: 1.063-1.347) , sitting for a long time (OR=1.327, 95%CI: 1.191-1.479) , heavy workload (OR=1.429, 95%CI: 1.262-1.615) , exposure to lead (OR=1.696, 95%CI: 1.307-2.201) , exposure to mercury (OR=1.452, 95%CI: 1.086-1.940) , and exposure to ionizing radiation (OR=1.679, 95%CI: 1.424-1.980) were associated with reproductive system diseases.@*Conclusion@#The prevalence of reproductive system diseases among female workers in Beijing is not optimistic. Reproductive system diseases are associated with frequent overtime work, frequent night shifts, standing for a long time, sitting for a long time, heavy workload, and exposure to lead, mercury, and ionizing radiation.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the safety, efficacy and tolerability of China-made sildenafil citrate (Jinge) in the treatment of ED. METHODS: We conducted a multi-center, randomized, double-blind and placebo-controlled clinical trial among 222 ED patients in five urological or andrological clinics of China. The patients were randomly assigned to receive sildenafil citrate (SC, n = 111) or placebo (n = 111) for 8 weeks. We obtained and analyzed the demographic and clinical characteristics of the patients, the scores of International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF), the success rate of sexual intercourse, and the incidence of adverse events. RESULTS: No statistically significant differences were found between the patients of the SC and those of the placebo group in the mean age (ï¼»47.2±11.32ï¼½ yr vs ï¼»46.67±13.08ï¼½ yr, P>0.05), psychological etiology (27.93% vs 23.42%, P>0.05), organic etiology (21.62% vs 29.73%, P>0.05) or mixed etiology (50.45% vs 46.85%, P>0.05), nor in height, weight, nationality, or history of smoking, drinking or allergy. Compared with the placebo controls, the SC-treated patients showed significant increases in the excellence rate of effectiveness (29.91% vs 78.90%, P<0.01), success rate of sexual intercourse (29.16% vs 63.87%, P<0.01), and total effectiveness rate (34.58% vs 77.98%, P<0.01). The effectiveness rates on organic, psychogenic and mixed types ED were remarkably higher in the SC group (64.52%, 83.33%, and 82.14%) than in the placebo control (46.15%, 21.21%, and 25.00%) (P<0.01). Mild or temporary adverse events were observed in 32 cases in the SC group as compared with 13 in the placebo control. CONCLUSIONS: China-made sildenafil citrate is an effective, safe and well-tolerated drug for ED of different etiologies in the Chinese population.
