RESUMO

Brillouin lasers, with their unique properties, offer an intriguing solution for many applications, yet bringing their performance to integrated platforms has remained questionable. We present a theoretical framework to describe Brillouin lasing in integrated ring microcavities. Specifically, a general case of a mismatch between the Brillouin shift and the microresonator inter-mode spacing is considered. We show that although the lasing threshold is increased with the frequency detuning, a significant enhancement of the laser power in comparison with the pure resonant interaction could be achieved. Moreover, there is an optimal pump frequency detuning from the resonant mode frequency, when the effect is most pronounced. An increase of the Brillouin threshold with the pump frequency detuning is accompanied by narrowing the pump frequency range available for lasing. Importantly, at the optimal value of the pump frequency detuning when the Brillouin signal is maximal, Brillouin signal noise level is minimal. Analytical results obtained in the steady-state approach are in quantitative agreement with the results of numerical simulations.

RESUMO

It has been found that the species composition of parasites infesting the Chinese sleeper Perccottus glenii in water bodies from the nonnative part of its range is more depleted. Here, the phylogenetic distances between parasites exceed those in the native part of the range. It has been revealed that parasitological differences between P. glenii populations from the nonnative and native parts of the range, as well as between populations inside the nonnative part, have similar composition and abundance of the host-specific and euryxenous components in the parasitic fauna. It has been shown that these differences are determined by the genesis of sites from which P. glenii is introduced, as well as the local conditions of the recipient water bodies.

RESUMO

The diversity of parasite communities in the Chinese sleeper Perccottus glenii, at the level of single specimens and populations, is manifested through three components: the number of species, the evenness of their abundance, and the taxonomic diversity. Variations in the diversity depend on the local characteristics of water bodies, as well as the sexual and dimensional factors of the host. This study was performed in four water bodies of the Russian Far East (Primorskii krai and Sakhalin Island).

RESUMO

A setup for the generation and studies of mono-disperse microbiological aerosols is described in the paper. Coefficients of 3 microm aerosol deposition in the respiratory tract of mice and rats were refined by using the above setup. The probability of deposition of such particles in the trachea and lungs of mice was proven to be equal to 1.2 +/- 0.1% and 2.6 +/- 0.2%, respectively. The probability for rats was equal to 3.2 +/- 0.2 and 11.8 +/- 0.9%, respectively. The distribution of deposited aerosol particles was determined by electron microscopy.

RESUMO

A distributed computing system is developed to search and analyze genetic databases using parallel computing technologies. Queries are processed by a local network PC cluster. A universal task and data exchange format is developed for effective query processing. A multilevel hierarchic task batching procedure is elaborated to generate multiple subtasks and distribute them over cluster units under dynamic priority levels and with dynamic distribution of replicated source data subbases. Primary source data preparation and generation of annotation word indices are used to significantly reduce query processing time.

RESUMO

The results of investigation of biological activity of information molecules, i.e. cytomedines, obtained from injuries by using the method of acetous extraction (V.G. Morozov, V. Kh. Havinson, 1981) are presented in the experimental manner and on the basis of practical materials. The sequence of formation of hemorrhages and injuries was demonstrated accurately enough by using the biological activity of extracted cytomedines.

RESUMO

Infection of etiolated wheat seedlings with a root rot fungus Bipolaris sorokiniana caused a strong deviation in the fatty acid composition of their total lipids from the control. The deviation occurred at the expense of that lipid group, which predominates in a given plant organ (shoots or roots), and peak deviation coincided with the onset of a severe inhibition of growth.

RESUMO

Experimental conditions for preparing the thin-layer chromatographic plates with a permanent adsorbent layer (PAL) have been established; the particles of this layer are firmly bound to each other and to the glass support by means of fused glass powder. To prepare the PAL plates, a mixture of Woelm silica gel and glass powder (1:3, w/w) of particle size 7+/-1 mum was suspended in toluene and spread on the plates, yielding PALs of thickens 150-250 mum. The plates were heated in an electric furnace at 675 degrees for 20 min. In the separation of neutral lipids, a PAL thus prepared is equal in efficiency and selectivity to silica gel layers prepared in the usual manner.

RESUMO

A mutant of Pseudomonas fluorescens, AG-M49, has been isolated, which lacks the ability to synthesize glutamic acid. The mutant contains both aspartase A and aspartase AG. The mutant was characterized by a considerably high activity of glutaminase and aspartase, increasing with the rate flow, during its continuous cultivation on a medium with L-glutamate. L-aspartate penetrates the cells and induces formation of the both deamidases in the mutant. In these conditions, the concentration of exocellular ammonia increases. Asparagine, but not glutamine, also stimulates production of the deamidases in the mutant.

RESUMO

The exhaustive extraction of lipids from soybean seeds in the native state, separation of polar lipids and determination of their functional groups (ester and phosphate) revealed that dry seeds may contain 36,7 mumole (+/- 4,6%) of polar lipids and 25,9 mumole (+/- 1.1%) phospholipids per gramme.

RESUMO

The cells of Pseudomonas fluorescens AG contain two inducable asparaginase enzymes: one of them hydrolyzes only L-asparagine (asparaginase A), the other--L-asparagine, L-glutamine, and D-asparagine (asparaginase AG). In the conditions of continuous cultivation of the bacteria, aspartic and glutamic acids induce the formation of these enzymes only when the amino acids were used simultaneously as a growth-limiting factor and as a sole source of carbon and nitrogen. Both enzymes are not induced in the conditions when the growth is limited by the nitrogen of these amino acids. When the growth was limited by carbon, asparagine, aspartic and glutamic acids induce asparaginase AG more than asparaginase A. Asparagine and glutamine are better inductors than the corresponding amino acids. The activity of asparaginase and glutaminase increases with the specific growth rate of the culture. The induced synthesis of both amidases, after prolonged growth of the culture on a defined medium with glycerol, is inhibited by glycerol but not by glucose. The results are discussed from the viewpoint of regulation of amidases in these bacterial cells.
