RESUMO

This study highlights the use of 89Zr-oxalate in diagnostic applications with the help of WinAct and IDAC2.1 software. It presents the biodistribution of the drug in various organs and tissues, including bone, blood, muscle, liver, lung, spleen, kidneys, inflammations, and tumors, and analyzes the maximum amount of nuclear transformation per Bq intake for each organ. The retention time of the maximum nuclear transformation and the absorbed doses of the drug in various organs and tissues are also examined. Data from clinical and laboratory studies on radiopharmaceuticals are used to estimate the coefficients of transition. The accumulation and excretion of the radiopharmaceutical in the organs is assumed to follow an exponential law. The coefficients of transition from the organs to the blood and vice versa are estimated using a combination of statistical programs and digitized data from the literature. WinAct and IDAC 2.1 software are used to calculate the distribution of the radiopharmaceutical in the human body and to estimate the absorbed doses in organs and tissues. The results of this study can provide valuable information for the biokinetic modeling of wide-spectrum diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals. The results show that 89Zr-oxalate has a high affinity for bones and a relatively low impact on healthy organs, making it helpful in targeting bone metastases. This study provides valuable information for further research on the development of this drug for potential clinical applications.

The 238U, 232Th and 40K concentrations were estimated in the size-fractionated urban surface deposited sediments in Ekaterinburg, Russia. The average concentrations of 238U, 232Th and 40K in dust fraction (0.002-0.05 mm) are 48 ± 7, 28 ± 1 and 510 ± 20 Bq/kg, respectively. The effective dose is estimated depending on the suggested daily scenarios of different exercises which can be assigned to light, moderate and vigorous activity. The results show that the total effective dose received during 20 years by an adult with the light activity is 5.6 µSv under exposure to air dust concentration 1 × 10-4 g/m3, which is typical for the city of Ekaterinburg. Although for the moderate and vigorous activities the total effective dose is 9.9 µSv and 48.8 µSv, respectively, during 20 years at air dust concentration equal to the diurnal Maximum Permissible Limit (1.5 × 10-4 g/m3). Thus, the effective doses due to natural radionuclides in the dust fraction are relatively low in comparison ICRP reference level.

During last decades, energy saving in new buildings became relevant within the energy efficiency strategies in various countries. Such energy efficient building characteristics as air tightening and low ventilation can compromise indoor air quality, in particular, increase radon concentration. In Russia, a significant part of the new buildings is the energy efficient multi-storey apartment houses. The aim of this study is to assess the significance of possible radon concentration increase in new energy efficient buildings in comparison with typical conventional multi-storey houses of previous periods. Radon surveys were conducted in Russian cities Ekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Saint-Petersburg and Krasnodar. The radon measurements were carried out in 478 flats using CR-39 nuclear track detectors. Energy efficiency index (EEI) was assigned to each house. All buildings were divided into six main categories. The smallest average radon concentration was observed in panel and brick houses built according to standard projects of 1970-1990 (four-city average 21 Bq/m3). The highest average radon concentration and EEI were observed in new energy efficient buildings (49 Bq/m3). The trend of radon increase in buildings ranked with high EEI index is observed in all cities. The potential increase of radiation exposure in energy-efficient buildings should be analyzed taking into account the principles of radiological protection.

Study of gross beta activity was conducted in Russian cities Ekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don, and Nizhny Novgorod. The cities were characterized by continental climate, although they are located in different geographical zones. The bulk urban samples were fractionated with three size fractions: dust (0.002-0.1 mm), fine sand (0.1-1 mm), and coarse sand (> 1 mm). Measurement setup equipped with beta radiometer BDPB-01 was designed to measure the low levels of gross beta-activity in a small amount of the obtained size-fractionated samples. According to the results of the study, the gross beta activity depends on the size fraction and the city. The highest beta activity concentration was found in the dust fraction which is about the same in all cities 0.8-0.9 Bq g-1. In size fractions of fine sand and coarse sand, the beta activity depends on the city. Among other cities, the highest average beta concentration was found in Ekaterinburg (0.8 and 0.6 Bq g-1 in fine and coarse sand fractions, respectively), while the lowest is 0.28 and 0.44 Bq g-1, respectively. The relationship of beta activity concentration with mineral and chemical composition is studied. Average beta activity in the different fractions of the surface-deposited sediment correlates with uranium, thorium, and organic matter concentration. The gross beta activity may be considered an indicator of high contribution of dust and high pollution with Pb, Cu, and Zn in the urban environment.

Urban road sediments act as large basins for heavy metal contaminants produced as a result of natural processes and anthropogenic activities. This study is aimed at reviewing research over recent decades on heavy metal contamination in different cities around the world. The study reviews literature from Google Scholar, Web of Science, and Scopus journal publications. Cr, Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, and Cd levels vary from one city to another. Based on the collected results, the pollution level and geoaccumulation index are estimated in each city. The levels of pollution in these cities range from low to extremely high, depending on the sources of pollution at each site (geogenic and anthropogenic sources, etc.) and factors like the distribution of industrial activities, population, and traffic emissions. This review shows that the development of modern cities and rapid urbanization are the major causes of heavy metal contamination in the environment. The contamination of the urban environment has different sources, both natural and anthropogenic in character. Solving the problem of heavy metal contamination in the urban environment requires the use of different techniques such as urban road control treatment and soil remediation.
