RESUMO

This study investigated the prevalence of gastrointestinal (GI) parasites in ruminants slaughtered at the abattoir in district Narowal, Punjab, Pakistan. The overall prevalence of parasitic infection was determined to be 72.92% based on faecal examination. Among the ruminant species, goats exhibited a significantly higher (P < 0.05) prevalence of parasitic infection (78.63%) compared to cattle, buffalo, and sheep. Additionally, female ruminants showed a significantly higher (P<0.05) prevalence of infection (85.62%) compared to males (65.13%). The intestines (both small and large) of small and large ruminants were found to be significantly more affected, with a prevalence of 39.58% of parasitic infection compared to other examined organs. A total of ten parasitic genera were identified in ruminants, including hydatid cysts. Ruminants with a high burden of parasites (45.74%) significantly outnumbered those with light (23.40%) and moderate (30.85%) burdens. Economically, the estimated annual losses in Pakistan due to organ condemnation with GI parasites were substantial, amounting to Pak. Rs. 405.09/- million (USD = 1,428,760). These findings underscore the significance of GI parasite infections as a major animal health concern and a cause of significant economic losses in the research area.

In this study, the potential of borophene (BOR) as a drug delivery system for resveratrol (RVT) was explored to evaluate its efficacy in cancer treatment. The excited, electronic, and geometric states of RVT, BOR, and the borophene-adsorbed resveratrol complex (BOR@RVT) were calculated to assess BOR's suitability as a drug carrier. Noncovalent interaction (NCI) plots indicated a weak force of attraction between BOR and RVT, which facilitates the offloading of RVT at the target site. Frontier molecular orbital (FMO) analysis showed that during electron excitation from Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital (HOMO) to Lowest Unoccupied Molecular Orbital (LUMO), charge transfer occurs from RVT to BOR. This was further confirmed by charge decomposition analysis (CDA). Calculations for the excited state of BOR@RVT revealed a red shift in the maximum absorption wavelength (λmax), indicating a photoinduced electron transfer (PET) process across various excited states. PET analysis demonstrated fluorescence quenching due to this interaction. Our findings suggest that BOR holds significant potential as a drug delivery vehicle for cancer treatment, offering a promising platform for the development of advanced drug delivery systems.

The 1D homochiral coordination polymer (CP-1) {[Co(dTMP)(bpe)2(H2O)3]·9H2O}n was constructed by using 2'-deoxy thymidine 5'-monophosphate disodium salt (dTMP·2Na), and auxiliary ligand bpe (1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethene) and characterized by single-crystal XRD, PXRD, IR, UV-visible, CD and TGA analyses. Molecular simulations revealed the selective chiral behaviour of CP-1 towards phenylalanine and histidine, as indicated by their higher binding free energies compared to other amino acids. Theoretical parameters were also compared with experimental UV-visible verdicts. Notably, the D-enantiomers of phenylalanine and histidine demonstrated strong bonding abilities and optimal configurations for probing and distinguishing them from their L-counterparts. These findings led to propositions suggesting that the dissimilarities between these D and L amino acid forms and their binding orientations with CP-1 may contribute to alterations in the CD signal. CP-1 exhibited a robust inherent circular dichroism (CD) signal in aqueous solutions, modulated by the presence of specific amino acids, namely D/L phenylalanine and D/L histidine. Leveraging the measurement of CD signal intensity, a sensor capable of detecting unmodified amino acids has been developed. Unlike previously reported approaches that relied on complex chemical reactions between initially CD-silent molecules and probed amino acids, this new method offers a more straightforward means of amplifying the CD signal. Consequently, this change facilitates a more accurate differentiation between the enantiomers of these specific amino acids compared to others.

We started a campaign in the heart of Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan, to expose the hidden threats of parasitic illnesses in ruminants and the severe financial consequences associated with them. Our in-depth investigations focused on the prevalence, impact, and astounding financial losses brought on by organ contamination in slaughtered animals. Of the 384 slaughtered ruminants examined for gastrointestinal parasites, a prevalence of 44.79% was recorded. It is interesting to note that we found no conclusive association between parasitic infection and the various ruminant species under study (p > 0.05). However, goats (52.0%) had the highest numerical prevalence of parasitic infection, followed by cattle (46.1%), buffalo (46.0%), and sheep (34.7%) in that order. A significant finding (p < 0.05) showed that the majority of animals had light parasitism (46.5%), as opposed to those with moderate (30.2%) or severe loads (23.2%). Our research revealed substantial (p < 0.05) relationships between ruminant age, sex, and parasitic infection prevalence. In comparison to females (56.4%) and adults (48.1%), males (36.1%) and young (36.9%) ruminants showed considerably decreased infection rates (p < 0.05). On the other hand, we discovered a non-significant (p > 0.05) association between the months and the prevalence of parasitic infection. As a result of the condemnation of contaminated organs such as the rumen, lungs, and liver, an estimated financial loss of PKR 133,731,400 (USD = 466,939.2) was incurred. The yearly economic losses caused by liver condemnation were much greater than those caused by rumen and lung condemnation (p < 0.05). Our research not only reported a significantly higher abundance but also economic threats of the parasitic diseases among the slaughtered animals in Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan. Our findings highlighted the critical need for preventive and therapeutic interventions for parasitic infections in animals, in order to mitigate the economic losses through strengthened animal health.

Combinatorial patterns of histone modifications sketch the epigenomic locale. Specific positions of these modifications in the genome are marked by the presence of such signals. Various methods highlight such patterns on global scale hence missing the local patterns which are the actual hidden combinatorics. We present ChromBiSim, an interactive tool for mining subsets of modifications from epigenomic profiles. ChromBiSim efficiently extracts biclusters with their genomic locations. It is the very first user interface based and multiple cell type handling tool for decoding the interplay of subsets of histone modifications combinations along their genomic locations. It displays the results in the forms of charts and heat maps in accordance with saving them in files which could be used for post analysis. ChromBiSim tested on multiple cell types produced in total 803 combinatorial patterns. It could be used to highlight variations among diseased versus normal cell types of any species.
