RESUMO

247 cases of congenital dislocation of the hip (C.D.H.) with abnormal mobility of the hip joint were reviewed. Abnormal articular mobility (A.A.M.) was analyzed in 64 infants in whom the maneuvers described by Le Damany and Barlow were executed under arthrographic control. A.A.M. was caused by the deformity of the hip socket. The snapping sign was produced by the rise of the femoral capital epiphysis over the cartilaginous rim, in front of the limit separating the central, underformed part of the osseous acetabulum from its outer dysplastic portion. In eleven cases the "limbus" was located within the acetabular cavity, centrally with respect of the labrum. The Barlow sign was produced by the abnormal displacement of the femoral head within the incontinent and distorted hip socket. Prognostic factors were analysed in 161 patients reviewed older than one year.

RESUMO

Forty-four arthrograms were done in 41 infants less than one year old. The author has studied displacement of the femoral head and deformity of the acetabulum. The relationship of the femoral head to the limbus was specifically assessed. The antero-posterior orientation of the acetabulum was found to be normal. The sphericity of the acetabulum varied with the position of the hip. The maximum sphericity was found in 90 degrees flexion, 35 degrees abduction and neutral rotation. In this position the femoral head was better centered.

RESUMO

The authors have treated 27 cases of congenital elevation of the scapula in children. 21 were operated on. They describe 3 types of the deformity which was often associated with other congenital lesions local (spine, ribs) or general. Two types of operations were performed: Schrock's procedure (partial excision of the scapula) and Woodward's procedure (dissection and re-insertion of muscles). The second one was followed by better results. Operations must be cautiously decided for they may be the cause of severe complications.
