RESUMO

The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of imazamox for control of S. molesta and to assess the effects of plant decomposition on environmental indicators after application of this herbicide in microcosm conditions. The following rates were used: 600, 700, 800 and 900 g ai ha-1 and spray volume 50 L ha-1. Control efficacy was determined as the percentage (from 0 to 100%) of visible injury symptoms in the plants, biochemical and chemical oxygen demand (BOD5 and COD), water quality variables, chlorophyll a and pheophytin a at 0, 7, 15, 30, 45 and 60 days after application (DAA) and fresh and dry biomass at 60 DAA. Imazamox was effective in controlling 94% of S. molesta with 900 g ai ha-1; it reduced 95% of fresh weight and 92% of dry weight of plant at 60 DAA, and reduced chlorophyll a of the plants for all rates. For BOD5, there was an increase for all rates at 15, 30 and 45 DAA with restoration of the parameters at 60 DAA, and for COD, there was an increase at 60 DAA with 700 and 900 g ai ha-1. For temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen and electrical conductivity, there was no significant effect after spraying. Imazamox was effective in controlling S. molesta with 900 g ai ha-1 without causing significant effects on the physical-chemical parameters of water quality.

RESUMO

The weeds are important in agricultural and livestock areas because these plants can cause several damages, especially in the yield. The herbicide pulverization for weed control is the most used, but the efficiency of the control can be dependent the several factors, for example, the correct chose the herbicide and the mixture or not with adjuvant. This study aimed to evaluate the contact angle of herbicide solution droplets associated with adjuvant when deposited on the leaf surface of different weed species and their relationship with chemical control. For the contact angle experiment, the design was completely randomized, with four repetitions, while for the control experiment, a randomized block design was used, both experiments were arranged in a factorial (4 × 2 + 1) design. Factor A corresponded to four spray solutions containing the herbicide no addition of adjuvants and herbicide associated with adjuvants (vegetable oil, mineral oil, and lecithin), factor B to two herbicide dosages, and additional treatment corresponded to water. The contact angle was determined in six weed species: Crotalaria incana, Lantana camara, Ipomoea grandifolia, Asclepias curassavica, Sida obtusifolia, and Ricinus communis, on the adaxial and abaxial surface of each species, and an artificial surface. For the weed control experiment was used two weed species: C. incana and L. camara. The multivariate analysis allowed the understanding of the behavior of the contact angle of the different groups on the natural and artificial surfaces, due to the formation of factors. For all plants, except for the abaxial surface of I. grandifolia and the adaxial surface of A. curassavica, the association of herbicide and adjuvants reduced contact angle on the surfaces. The chemical control resulted in an indirect relation with contact angle, where smaller contact angles of the herbicide solution resulted in a higher percentage of plant intoxication. Therefore, for this situation, it is recommended to use the herbicide aminopyralid + fluroxypir associated with lecithin.

RESUMO

Spodoptera frugiperda is a pest of economic importance for several crops with resistance reports to Bt crops and pesticides. Eco-friendly Bt biopesticides may be an alternative to chemical insecticides due to their selectivity and specificity. However, the efficacy of Bt biopesticides may be influenced by the association with other chemicals, such as adjuvants. This study evaluated the compatibility and toxicity of Bt biopesticides mixed with adjuvants for the control of S. frugiperda. The treatments included the association of Dipel SC and Dipel PM with adjuvants. Compatibility tests were used to evaluate the Bt mixture. Bt suspensions obtained from mixtures of Bt and adjuvants at 106 and 3 × 108 spores/mL-1 were used to evaluate S. frugiperda mortality and distilled water was used as the control. The addition of the adjuvant LI increased growth and sporulation, indicating compatibility with Bt biopesticides. The other adjuvants were toxic to reducing Bt growth and sporulation. Only the mixture of Bt with LI and Bt alone was effective to S. frugiperda. The addition of adjuvants to Bt biopesticide affect the Bt sporulation, growth and mortality.

RESUMO

The adoption of dicamba-tolerant soybean varieties has increased the concern and demand for new drift and volatility reduction technologies. Potential spray nozzles and adjuvants should be studied to determine its effects on drift and volatility of dicamba tank-mixtures. The objective of this study was to evaluate physicochemical characteristics of spray solutions containing dicamba; to analyze droplet size effect with air induction nozzles; and to assess dicamba volatilization on soybean plants with a proposed methodology. Treatments included dicamba only and mixtures with herbicides and adjuvants. Dicamba mixed with lecithin + methyl soybean oil + ethoxylated alcohol adjuvant had the greatest efficacy potential among treatments considering tank-mixture pH, surface tension, contact angle and droplet size. The MUG11003 nozzle produced the coarsest droplet size and was better suited for drift management among nozzle types. The proposed volatilization methodology successfully indicated dicamba volatilization in exposed soybean plants and among the evaluated treatments, it showed greater volatilization for dicamba with glyphosate + lecithin + propionic acid adjuvant.

RESUMO

The Periplaneta americana species is an annoyance to man, causing allergies and damage to clothes and documents. It has the ability to spread pathogens and requires control measures. Control with natural enemies is less aggressive and can currently be applied with less risk than other techniques, such as chemical control, which is the main method used worldwide to control its post-embryonic stages. The potential microbial control of nymphs and adults of this pest has been shown, but little is known about its oothecae. There are isolates of fungal species that can be used to achieve this aim, but they may have innate differences in their virulence and ability to spread. This study aimed to identify fungal isolates JAB 68 and IBCB 35 through genetic sequencing of the ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 region, analyze their ability to synthesize chitinase, and investigate and compare their aggressiveness against P. americana oothecae and their influence on nymph eclosion. Fungal suspensions were inoculated into minimal medium containing glucose (control) as the sole carbon source and 1% colloidal chitin to determine the chitinolytic activity on the 4th, 7th and 10th days and sporulation on the 10th day. To obtain mortality, extrusion and the compiled number of hatched nymphs, oothecae were sprayed with suspensions of the isolates as follows: T1 - no application; T2 - aqueous solution of Tween 80® 0.1% (vehicle suspension for treatments T3 to T8); T3 - 2 × 109 conidia/mL of the JAB 68 isolate; T4 - 2 × 108 con./mL of the JAB 68 isolate; T5 - 2 × 107 con./mL of the JAB 68 isolate; T6 - 2 × 109 con./mL of the IBCB 35 isolate; T7 - 2 × 108 con./mL of the IBCB 35 isolate; T8 - 2 × 107 con./mL of the IBCB 35 isolate. The JAB 68 and IBCB 35 isolates were identified as belonging to the species Metarhizium anisopliae and Beauveria bassiana, respectively. Chitinolytic activity and extrusion were good parameters for evaluating the fungi's action on oothecal control. The most aggressive entomopathogen was M. anisopliae isolate JAB 68, with shorter time for fungus extrusion at a concentration of 2 × 107 con./mL. B. bassiana reduced the number of hatched nymphs at a concentration of 2 × 108 con./mL. Both fungi are capable of infecting and killing P. americana's oothecae and reducing the number of nymphs hatched.
