The objective was to identify the features and the management of chronic pain associated to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) from the perspective of nurses and doctors. Qualitative study conducted at a reference hospital in Fortaleza- CE, Brazil, with 20 professionals. It was applied semi-structured interview and the speeches were analyzed using content analysis of Bardin, emerging three categories: Characterization of pain, Clinical evaluation of pain and Clinical care of pain. It was found that pain in AIDS manifests itself as persistent, disabling, with difficult control, and its management based on accurate identification of the causal factors and on implementation of pharmacological and non pharmacological treatment offered by the interdisciplinary team. The study provides relevant data on pain in AIDS patients, demonstrating the need to rethink the model of care management interventions to promote greater efficacy of analgesia and to improve interdisciplinary approach to pain for better pain evaluation and treatment.

RESUMO

The objective of this study was to analyze the structure for the management of pain in patients with AIDS in a reference hospital in Fortaleza, Brazil. This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, developed in 2010. Twenty interviews were performed with health care professionals (physicians and nurses), and analyzed according to the methodology of content analysis. Data were organized into categories: favorable and unfavorable structural conditions. A prevalence of unfavorable conditions was found in the discourse of the interviewees, such as an emphasis on pharmacologic treatment, absence of specific care strategies for pain, lack of experienced professionals in handling pain, and a high demand and failure in the referral and counter-referral system. It is suggested that a new management care model be instituted for patients with AIDS, emphasizing an interdisciplinary approach to pain, training of health care professionals and improvement of chart records for use in evaluating pain relief methods and more effective treatments.

RESUMO

Integrative Community Therapy (ICT) is an instrument of care that allows us to make social networks and prevent mental suffering. This paper aimed to report an experience of implementation of ICT by nurse in the Family Health Strategy, carried out from September 2008 to April 2009, at the Alto Jerusalem community, in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, as part of a training course of Integrative Therapist Community. The report was divided into phases: awareness of managers and health professionals and training strategies of the groups. We conclude that, as an instrument of care, ICT meets the guiding principles of SUS, teaching us to build social support networks, enabling changes and recognizing the competences of each social actor to overcome the difficulties reported.

RESUMO

This is a descriptive, exploratory study wih a qualitative approach performed in a University Hospital from the Federal Public Network of the city of Fortaleza, state of Ceará, Brazil. It aimed to understand how nursing assistants perceive nursing care and to know the actions performed by nurses that are recognized as care activities. Eight nurses from the surgical intensive care unit participated in the study. A questionnaire with open questions was used as an instrument of data collection. Analysis was performed through content analysis with the formation of thematic categories and a framework that allowed the best visualization of results. Results show that, although they know and conceptualize nursing care, nurses have difficulties in achieving the larger care, maybe because they are overloaded with technical procedures performed in hospital environments.
