RESUMO

Eighteen local breed cats suffered from enterotoxaemia after scavenging on chicken-remnants. They suffered from vomitus and diarrhoea and collapsed dead after a few hours. An untypable strain of Clostridium perfringens was isolated in pure form and was suspected to be the cause of the outbreak.

RESUMO

The effect of cis-chlorodiamine platinum (cisplatin) on different tissues of rat was studied. Nephrotoxicity and neurotoxicity were clearly observed both clinically and histologically. The minimising action of penicillamine as a chelating agent and/or lasix as a diuretic on the toxic side-effect of cisplatin was also studied. Both agents succeeded in reducing the toxic side-effect of cisplatin to some extent but failed to reduce mortality among the experimental animals. The study has also manifested liver and heart to be additional organs susceptible to damage, following cisplatin treatment.

RESUMO

An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay has been developed to detect and quantitate bovine papillomavirus in partially purified and in purified viral preparations, using rabbit antiserum against group-specific papillomavirus structural antigens and alkaline phosphatase-labeled affinity purified goat antibody to rabbit immunoglobulin G. Viral detection correlated well with negative-stain electron microscopy of the various preparations and peroxidase-antiperoxidase staining of paraffin sections of the original fibropapillomas. The technique is rapidly done and will detect minute amounts of viral protein (1 ng/ml).

RESUMO

Oral papillomas were seen in 31% of New Zealand white rabbits (n = 51) examined from 2 local sources. Papillomavirus structural antigens were detected by the peroxidase-antiperoxidase technique in cells of the stratum spinosum which contained basophilic intranuclear inclusions. Homogenates of papillomas hemagglutinated mouse RBC and also induced papillomas on the ventral surface of tongues, but not bulbar conjunctiva or vulva, os susceptible rabbits. The same oral papilloma homogenate induced fibromas in neonatal hamsters. Homogenates of hamster fibromas did not cause lesions on tongues of susceptible rabbits.
