RESUMO

Purpose of the study. Generalization of data on the value of alternative and additional treatment of acute infectious rhinitis with Korizalia. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The material of scientific publications included in the Cochrane Library, information bases of the RSCI, MEDLINE, PubMed was used as a data source. The choice of material was carried out using the key words: colds, acute rhinitis, herbal medicine, homeopathic remedies. RESULTS: Analysis of published clinical trial descriptions suggests the potential value of homeopathic medicines, in particular Korizalia, in improving the effectiveness of the treatment of acute rhinitis. The use of Korizalia in acute infectious rhinitis was more effective in relation to the main symptoms of ARI compared with placebo. CONCLUSION: The lack of optimal drugs for the etiotropic treatment of viral acute respiratory infections determines the relevance of alternative and complementary methods of treatment using drugs of natural origin. The drug Korizalia can be used for acute respiratory infections (acute infectious rhinitis) as an alternative drug or in combination with other drugs.

RESUMO

Acute nasal symptoms are troublesome for patients. In addition, these symptoms are encountered frequently by individuals because of common infectious diseases, especially rhinovirus, giving rise to a 'common cold'. Acute nasal symptoms include rhinorrhoea, sneezing, nasal itch and congestion. Of these, nasal congestion is the most irritating. Because topical nasal decongestants provide rapid and dramatic relief from these symptoms, especially nasal congestion, they are frequently used and abused by patients. Guidance for indications, choice of most efficacious decongestant and recommendations for limiting side effects are thus essential to be imparted to patients by doctors.

RESUMO

Nasal blockage is the most bothersome symptom of acute rhinitis. Nasal decongestant sprays containing alpha-sympathomimetics, such as oxymetazoline and xylometazoline, have a rapid onset of action. However, this effect decreases with repeated application and, furthermore, the ciliary function of the nasal mucosa is practically paralyzed. Dexpanthenol promotes cell proliferation and protects the epithelium. Combining these two agents has demonstrated beneficial synergetic effects on the symptoms of acute rhinitis. In a post hoc analysis of a large-scale double-blind, active-controlled study including 152 patients, we could demonstrate that the benefit of added dexpanthenol appears as early as on the third day of the combined application of xylometazoline and dexpanthenol in terms of complete or near-to-complete freedom from symptoms. After 5 days, 47% of the patients were cured under the combined treatment compared with only 1% under xylometazoline monotherapy. These data show that the addition of dexpanthenol to an alpha-sympathomimetic nasal spray not only improves its tolerability but also further increases its effectiveness and leads to expedited cure. RESUMO

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the effects and safety of Bencycloquidium bromide nasal spray in the treatment of acute rhinitis after a cold. METHODS:A multicenter, dose parallel controlled,randomized,double-blind,placebo-controlled clinical tri-al was conducted. Two hundred and thirty-eight patients with acute rhinitis after a cold were selected and divided into group A(24 cases),B(24 cases),C(24 cases),D(24 cases),E(23 cases),F(24 cases),G(23 cases),H(24 cases),I(24 cases),J (24 cases). Group A-C were given Bencycloquidium bromide nasal spray 22.5μg,45μg,90μg,respectively,bid,spraying it once for each nostril. Group D-F were given Bencycloquidium bromide nasal spray 22.5 μg,45 μg,90 μg,respectively, tid, spraying it once for each nostril. Group G-I were given Bencycloquidium bromide nasal spray 22.5 μg,45 μg,90 μg,respectively,qid,spray-ing it once for each nostril. Group J was given placebo. All groups were treated for(4±1)d. Rhinorrhea score and continuous rhi-norrhea duration were compared among 10 groups, and the safety was evaluated. RESULTS:The rhinorrhea score and continuous rhinorrhea duration of 10 groups were improved significantly, with statistical significance (P0.05). There was no statistical significance in the incidence of ADR among 10 groups(P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS:Bencycloquidium bromide nasal spray with 90 μg,qid times significantly improves rhinorrhea score and continuous rhinorrhea duration with good safety.

RESUMO

Aims: The study aimed to evaluate the effect of a group of homeopathic medicines in children with acute rhinitis. Materials and methods: In this multi-centric open clinical trial, a total of 784 children (408 males; 384 females) aged 6 months to 15 years, presenting symptoms of acute rhinitis were enrolled from 7 Institutes/ Units under the Central Council for Research in Homeopathy (India). Symptoms were assessed using an acute rhinitis symptom score (ARSS). A total of 13 homeopathic medicines were shortlisted after repertorizing the nosological symptoms of acute rhinitis in children and the results were analyzed. The medicines were prescribed in dilution 6c (10-12) and doses were repeated from few minutes to few hours as per the need of the case. Appearance of any change (improvement or worsening) was followed by placebo / change in dilution or change in medicine according to the response of the patient. The follow up period was up to the 7th day of illness. Results: Out of 784 children enrolled, 638 children were followed up and analyzed. A significant change in the score from the baseline (p<0.05) was observed. Twelve medicines were found to be useful in 638 children suffering from acute rhinitis and among them Nux-v (n=109), Merc (n=106) and Bell (n=88) were the most useful. No complications were observed during the treatment. Adverse events in the form of hyperpyrexia were observed in 2 children only. Conclusion: This study indicates the usefulness of homeopathic medicines in the management of acute rhinitis of children; controlled studies are needed to investigate their efficacy and effectiveness.
