BACKGROUND: Esophageal cancer is the sixth leading cause of cancer-related death and eighth most common cancer, affecting > 450000 people worldwide. Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma is the most common histological type, whereas esophageal adenoid cystic carcinoma (EACC) is rare. The liver is the most common distant metastatic site in esophageal cancer. Anal metastasis is rare and has not been reported in clinical practice before. Here, we report anal metastases in a patient with EACC after regular chemotherapy and surgical resection. CASE SUMMARY: A 61-year-old esophageal cancer patient was found to have lung and brain metastases during standardized treatment. The patient's treatment plan was continuously adjusted according to the latest treatment guidelines. However, the patient subsequently noticed rectal bleeding and itching, and after obtaining pathology results at the local hospital, anal metastasis of esophageal cancer was diagnosed. CONCLUSION: Postoperative pathology and immunohistochemistry confirmed EACC with rare anal metastasis. More exploration of EACC diagnosis and treatment is needed.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) is a slow-growing salivary gland malignancy that relapses frequently. AdCCs of the submandibular gland exhibit unique differences in prognosis and treatment response to adjuvant radiotherapy compared to other sites, yet the role of tumor anatomic subsite on gene expression and tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) composition remains unclear. We used 87 samples, including 48 samples (27 AdCC and 21 normal salivary gland tissue samples) from 4 publicly available AdCC RNA sequencing datasets, a validation set of 33 minor gland AdCCs, and 39 samples from an in-house cohort (30 AdCC and 9 normal salivary gland samples). RNA sequencing data were used for single sample gene set enrichment analysis and TIME deconvolution. Quantitative PCR and multiplex immunofluorescence were performed on the in-house cohort. Wilcoxon rank-sum, nonparametric equality-of-medians tests and linear regression models were used to evaluate tumor subsite differences. AdCCs of different anatomic subsites including parotid, submandibular, sublingual, and minor salivary glands differed with respect to expression of several key tumorigenic pathways. Among the three major salivary glands, the reactive oxygen species (ROS)/nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) pathway signature was significantly underexpressed in AdCC of submandibular compared to parotid and sublingual glands while this association was not observed among normal glands. Additionally, the NRF2 pathway, whose expression was associated with favorable overall survival, was overexpressed in AdCCs of parotid gland compared to minor and submandibular glands. The TIME deconvolution identified differences in CD4+ T cell populations between AdCC of major and minor glands and natural killer (NK) cells among AdCC of minor, submandibular, and parotid glands while plasma cells were enriched in normal submandibular glands compared to other normal gland controls. Our data reveal key molecular differences in AdCC of different anatomic subsites. The ROS and NRF2 pathways are underexpressed in submandibular and minor AdCCs compared to parotid gland AdCCs, and NRF2 pathway expression is associated with favorable overall survival. The CD4+ T, NK, and plasma cell populations also vary by tumor subsites, suggesting that the observed submandibular AdCC tumor-intrinsic pathway differences may be responsible for influencing the TIME composition and survival differences.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the treatment approaches and locoregional patterns for Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) in the breast, which is an uncommon malignant tumor with limited clinical data. Materials and Methods: A total of 93 patients diagnosed with primary ACC in the breast between 1992 and 2022 were collected from multi-institutions. All patients underwent surgical resection, including breast-conserving surgery (BCS) or total mastectomy (TM). The recurrence patterns and locoregional recurrence-free survival (LRFS) were assessed. Results: Seventy-five patients (80.7%) underwent BCS, and 71 of them (94.7%) received post-operative radiation therapy (PORT). Eighteen patients (19.3%) underwent TM, with 5 of them (27.8%) also receiving PORT. With a median follow-up of 50 months, the LRFS rate was 84.2% at 5 years. Local recurrence (LR) was observed in 5 patients (5.4%) and 4 cases (80%) of the LR occurred in the tumor bed. Three of LR (3/75, 4.0%) had a history of BCS and PORT, meanwhile, two of LR (2/18, 11.1%) had a history of mastectomy. Regional recurrence occurred in 2 patients (2.2%), and both cases had a history of PORT with (n=1) and without (n=1) irradiation of the regional lymph nodes. Partial breast irradiation (p=0.35), BCS (p=0.96) and PORT in BCS group (p=0.33) had no significant association with LRFS. Conclusion: BCS followed by PORT was the predominant treatment approach for ACC of the breast and local recurrence mostly occurred in the tumor bed. The findings of this study suggest that partial breast irradiation might be considered for PORT in primary breast ACC.

Key Clinical Message: In cases adjacent to critical structures, such as the internal carotid artery, surgeons should meticulously explore the feasibility of surgery before declaring the neoplasm unresectable. Abstract: Salvage treatment for locally recurrent carcinoma of the nasopharynx constitutes a unique challenge. Surgery remains the gold standard treatment modality. Endoscopic nasopharyngectomy is considered a safe and feasible procedure overcoming the morbidities of an open surgery. Tumor adjacency to the internal carotid artery (ICA) is not an absolute contradiction for the endoscopic approach. Even in cases adjacent to critical structures, surgeons should meticulously explore the feasibility of surgery before declaring the neoplasm unresectable. We present the case of a 56-year-old male with locally recurrent adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) of the nasopharynx adjacent to the ICA treated with endoscopic nasopharyngectomy.

BACKGROUND: Adenoid cystic carcinoma is a rare subtype of triple-negative breast carcinoma. These low-grade tumours, which are treated by simple mastectomy and have an excellent prognosis compared to other triple-negative breast carcinomas. Solid-variant adenoid cystic carcinomas have basaloid features and are difficult to distinguish morphologically from other triple-negative breast cancers. Breast adenoid cystic carcinoma exhibits MYB protein overexpression, which can be detected by immunohistochemistry (IHC). AIM: We compared the IHC expression of MYB in solid-variant adenoid cystic carcinoma with that in other triple-negative breast cancers. METHODS: We conducted IHC staining of 210 samples of triple-negative breast cancers, including solid-variant adenoid cystic carcinoma (n = 17), metaplastic breast carcinoma (n = 44), basaloid triple-negative breast cancer (n = 21), and other triple-negative invasive ductal carcinoma (n = 128). We classified nuclear staining of MYB as diffuse/strong (3+), focal moderate (2+), focal weak (1+), or none (0). RESULTS: All 17 solid/basaloid adenoid cystic carcinoma cases exhibited 3+ MYB expression. Of the 21 solid/basaloid triple-negative breast cancers, one (5%) had 2+ expression, seven (33%) 1+ expression, and 13 (62%) 0 expression. Of the 44 metaplastic carcinoma cases, 39 cases (89%) had no (0) staining, and the other five cases had focal weak (1+) or moderate (2+) staining. Among the 128 triple-negative invasive ductal carcinoma cases, 92 cases (72%) had no (0) staining, 36 cases (28%) exhibited focal weak (1+) or moderate (2+) staining. CONCLUSIONS: Our study revealed diffuse/strong MYB staining (3+) only in solid/basaloid adenoid cystic carcinomas. Thus, we recommend routine MYB IHC staining in triple-negative breast carcinoma with solid/basaloid morphology to improve diagnostic accuracy.

Objectives Malignant tumors of the sinonasal cavities with extension to the frontal skull base are rare and challenging pathologies. Combined-approach surgery using a frontobasal craniotomy and endoscopic sinus surgery with reconstruction of the anterior skull base followed by adjuvant radiotherapy is a preferred treatment strategy in selected cases. Morbidity and mortality rates are high in this population. We aim to add our experience to the current literature. Design We performed a retrospective cross-sectional single center study of the long-term clinical outcome in a tertiary university referral hospital in the Netherlands between 2010 and 2021. Descriptive statistics and frequency distributions were performed Participants Patient, tumor, treatment, complications and survival characteristics of eighteen consecutive patients were extracted from the electronic health records. Main Outcome Measures The primary outcome measures are progression free survival, overall survival and complication rate. Results Eighteen consecutive patients were included with a mean age of 61 (SD ± 10) years (range 38-80); ten males and eight females. Gross total resection was achieved in 14 (77%) patients. Eleven (61%) patients underwent local radiotherapy, one (5%) chemotherapy and three (17%) a combination of both. Mean follow-up duration was 49 months (range 3 - 138). Three (17%) patients died in hospital due to post-operative complications. Six (33%) patients died during follow-up due to disease progression. Mean progression-free survival was 47 months (range 0 - 113). Conclusion In conclusion, the overall survival was 50% for this group of patients with large sinonasal tumors. Progressive disease affects survival rate severely. Surgical complications were seen in five (28%) patients. Radiotherapy is associated with high complication rates. Radiation necrosis was a serious complication in two patients and could be treated with high dose steroids.

Salivary gland tumors (SGT) encompass a wide range of neoplasms, each with its own unique histological type and clinical presentation. This review hones in on prevalent subtypes of SGTs, including adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC), salivary duct carcinoma (SDC), and polymorphous adenocarcinoma (PAC). The articles, identified through specific keywords, were meticulously screened in databases like PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science from 2018 to 2023. Eight articles delved into genetic modifications among the selected SGT types. A fusion protein known as MYB-NF1B is typically associated with ACC, promoting cell proliferation while inhibiting apoptosis. The presence of MYB modifications in ACCs is a beacon of hope, as it is linked to a more favorable prognosis. In contrast, SDCs often exhibit HER2 expression. The invasive nature of SGTs contributes to their resistance to treatment. In the case of PAC, the role of PRKD1 is particularly noteworthy. PRKD1, integrated with other genes from the PRKD1/2/3 cluster, helps to differentiate PAC from other diseases. Furthermore, the genetic profiles of KTN1-PRKD1) and PPP2R2A:PRKD1 are distinct. The significant genetic variability among SGTs necessitates meticulous examination. This field is in a constant state of evolution, with new discoveries reshaping our understanding. Genetics is a key player in deciphering SGTs and tailoring treatments. This complex neoplasm demands ongoing research to uncover all genetic influences, thereby enhancing diagnostic methodologies, therapeutic strategies, and patient outcomes.

PURPOSE: Sinonasal malignancies are a rare group of head and neck cancers. We aimed to report the oncological outcomes based on histological types in patients who underwent radiotherapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this single-institution study, we retrospectively retrieved and analyzed data of patients with sinonasal carcinomas who underwent radiotherapy during 2011-2016 as part of their treatment. The 3-year rate of local, regional, and distant recurrences, and overall survival were evaluated according to the histological type. RESULTS: A total of 28 patients were evaluated in this study, the majority of whom were male (60%). Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC), and adenocarcinoma (ADC) were found in 15 patients (53.5%), 8 (28.5%), and 5 (18%), respectively. The highest rates of local and regional recurrences were observed in ACC and SCC, respectively. Distant recurrences were numerically more common in ADC. The 3-year OS was 48%, 50%, and 73% in SCC, ADC, and ACC, respectively. CONCLUSION: Different histopathologies of sinonasal cancer seem to have different patterns of failure, and this may be considered in the treatment approach.

BACKGROUND: Nasopharyngeal adenoid cystic carcinoma (NACC) is a relatively rare salivary gland tumor that is generally associated with poor outcomes. High-dose radiotherapy is a key treatment for patients with NACC. This study reported the long-term efficacy and safety of particle beam radiation therapy (PBRT) for NACC. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Twenty-six patients with nonmetastatic NACC who received definitive PBRT alone were included in this retrospective study. The majority of patients (92.3%) had locally advanced disease. Twenty-five (96.15%) patients received intensity-modulated proton radiotherapy (IMPT) followed by a carbon ion radiotherapy (CIRT) boost, and one patient received CIRT alone. Overall survival (OS), local control (LC), regional control (RC), and distant metastasis control (DMC) rates were calculated via the Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS: The median follow-up time was 46.95 months for the entire cohort. Seven patients experienced local recurrence, and one patient experience neck lymph node recurrence. The 3- and 4-year OS, LC, RC, and DMC rates were 100% and 91.7%, 92.3% and 84.6%, 95.8% and 87.8%, and 90.2% and 71.3%, respectively. A total of 91.3% of the patients achieved complete remission of gross tumors at 1 year after PBRT. Severe acute toxicity was observed in only two patients. A grade 4 decrease in visual acuity was observed in one patient with orbital apex invasion. No late grade 3 or 5 toxicity was observed. CONCLUSION: Definitive PBRT provided a satisfactory 4-year OS for patients with locally advanced NACC. The toxicity was acceptable and mild. Further follow-up is necessary to confirm the efficacy and safety of definitive PBRT for patients with NACC.

Adenoid hypertrophy (AH) and its sequel like nasal obstruction, obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), recurrent rhinitis and middle ear disorders are common diseases of pediatric age group, forming the major bulk of pediatric outpatient visits. The recommended approach to treating OSA in children is through adenotonsillectomy. Adenoidectomy is the surgical procedure of removal of hypertrophied adenoid tissues, which is the most common surgery performed by Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) surgeons. Given that adenoidectomy alone might lead to reduced instances of adverse outcomes, decreased risk of complications, and lower expenses, our objective was to explore the viability and suitability of adenoidectomy as a standalone treatment for pediatric OSA and to learn the significant effect of adenoidectomy on the quality of life (QOL) of children. Multicentric prospective study conducted in Department of ENT, Head and Neck Oncosurgery, Smita Memorial Hospital, Thodupuzha & Department of ENT, Head and Neck surgery, MCS Hospital, Muvattupuzha, Kerala, India from June 2022 to June 2023. Children between the age group of 5-10 years, who underwent adenoidectomy during the study period, satisfying the inclusion criteria were subjected for the study. Adenoidectomy was done for them using endoscope assisted coblation technique. Postoperative improvement in symptoms and change in quality of life were analyzed using obstructive sleep disorders-6 (OSD-6) questionnaire at the end of 3 months follow up. The surgeon observed a statistically significant improvement in all domains of OSD-6; and there by improvement in QOL in all patients, who underwent adenoidectomy in a course of three months. Adenoid hypertrophy is the most common cause of nasal obstruction in pediatric population and is creating a significant negative impact on the quality of life of children. Adenoidectomy is a safe and simple procedure which can provide significant improvement in quality of life of kids. Adenoidectomy in isolation could be a valid and recommended surgical choice for selected population of children displaying symptoms of pediatric OSA.

Background: Primitive tracheal tumors represent a rare entity whose management, when unresectable, remains challenging. Primary aim of this study was to explore the survival and the factors influencing prognosis of patients with unresectable primitive tracheal tumor undergoing multimodal treatment integrating interventional bronchoscopy and radiotherapy. Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted at the University Hospital of Modena (Italy) over a 12-year period (January 2010 to January 2022) analyzing patients with unresectable primary tracheal tumor receiving interventional bronchoscopy treatment followed by radiotherapy. Survival analysis was conducted for the whole population and according to histology, development of metastasis, stent placement and the onset of disease relapse. The raw and independent association between potential risk factor and 5-year mortality and the reported complications were investigated. Results: A total of 12 patients were included. Five-year survival rate was 42% with a median survival time of 26.7 (interquartile range, 4.1-82) months. Survivors showed a higher prevalence of cystic-adenoid histology (80% vs. 14%), while patients who were dead at 5 years were those with a more advanced T (prevalence of T2: 71% vs. 0%) and a lower response to first line treatment (57% vs. 0%). Treatment complications accounted for stent dislocation (33%) and the onset of granuloma (18%), while no major side effects were reported. The presence of cystic-adenoid histology resulted in significantly improved 5-year survival rate (80% vs. 14%). The onset of distal metastasis, the occurrence of disease relapse and the placement of tracheal stent did not result significantly associated with lower survival. Among analysed variables, only the presence of cystic-adenoid histology resulted independently associated with survival (odds ratio =0.1, P=0.04). Conclusions: Multimodal treatment including interventional bronchoscopy and associated radiotherapy for unresectable primary tracheal tumors seems not burdened by significant complications and may provide benefits in terms of survival for those patients with cystic-adenoid histology.

Primary tracheobronchial adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignancy, so the optimal radiotherapy (RT) dose remains unestablished. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of dose-escalated RT for primary tracheobronchial ACC. We retrospectively reviewed 48 patients who had undergone definitive or postoperative RT. Patients classified into the low- and high-dose groups received RT doses <70.0 and ≥70.0 Gy in EQD2, respectively. The primary endpoint was freedom from local progression (FFLP) and overall survival (OS). Throughout the follow-up period, seven patients (14.6%) experienced local progression, while 31 (64.6%) exhibited distant metastasis, most commonly in the lungs. In total, the 5-year FFLP and OS rates were 85.7 and 84.7%, respectively. Multivariate analysis revealed that regional lymph node metastasis at diagnosis and receipt of definitive RT were associated with poorer OS. In the subgroup analysis, the definitive RT group had a 5-year FFLP rate of 33.3 and 78.2% in the low- and high-dose groups (p = 0.065), whereas 5-year OS rates were 66.7 and 79.0%, respectively (p = 0.022). Four patients (8.3%) experienced Grade 3 toxicity with tracheal or main bronchus stenosis. Dose-escalated RT with conventional fractionation may be effective in patients with tracheobronchial ACC, especially for a definitive aim.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare type of tumor that usually originates from minor salivary glands in the oral cavity. ACC of the larynx is even rare. This case study describes a 36-year-old non-smoking male farmer who initially presented with dyspnea and was misdiagnosed with bronchial asthma. Spirometry revealed fixed airway obstruction. Further evaluation revealed a pedunculated mass obstructing the airway, which was diagnosed as ACC by histopathological examination of the biopsy specimen. The patient was treated with radiation therapy, resulting in clinical improvement after six weeks. ACC is highly invasive and slow-growing, with perineural extension and a higher risk of recurrence. Metastasis in the lungs is common. Adequate preoperative staging, including imaging with computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging, is important for planning treatment. The role of radiation therapy with concurrent chemotherapy is still under trial.

Objective: This study aimed to describe the experience of a single institution in China in treating adenoid cystic carcinoma of the nasopharynx. Methods: We reviewed the previous literature and conducted a retrospective analysis of 12 patients who diagnosed with nasopharyngeal adenoid cystic carcinoma (NACC) in clinical data, treatment, and follow-up data during 2019 to 2021. Results: Patients ranged in age from 32 to 68 years (mean 40.7 years, median 48.5 years), with a male to female ratio of 5:7. Most of our patients have T4a and T4b diseases (50% and 25%, respectively). A quarter of patients develop distant metastases. Among the 12 patients, 7 of them have positive margins under the microscope (7/12, 58.3%). The chief clinical manifestations were epistaxis, facial swelling, facial pain, headache ear stuffy, and hearing loss. If the tumors involved with cavernous sinus, brain stem infiltrated, and internal carotid artery circumvented, patients will undertake routine enhanced magnetic resonance imaging with Magnetic Resonance Angiography/Magnetic Resonance Venogram (MRA/MRV) to clearly show the lesion region. All patients underwent endoscopic endonasal approach. Fifty percent of patients received radiotherapy and 25% of patients received chemotherapy. None of the patients was lost and the follow-up time ranged from 16 to 45 months. The mean and median follow-up were 2.08 and 1.58 years. Two patients were dead of distant metastasis within 18 and 20 months after the surgery, and another patient with recurrent NACC died of hemorrhage. Conclusion: NACC is a rare malignant tumor that occurs in the nasopharynx, which can grow along the nerve, destroy the bone of the skull base, and metastasize to other organs. Up to now, there is no standard treatment. Our results show that endoscopic sinus surgery is a better choice for advanced or recurrent NACC.

INTRODUCTION: Adenoid cystic carcinoma of minor salivary glands (AdCCmSG) represents a 'rarity in the rarity,' posing a clinical challenge in lack of standardized, evidence-based recommendations. At present, AdCCmSG management is mostly translated from major salivary gland cancers (MSGCs). Ideally, AdCCmSG diagnostic-therapeutic workup should be discussed and carried out within a multidisciplinary, high-expertise setting, including pathologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists and medical oncologists. AREAS COVERED: The present review provides an overview of epidemiology and pathologic classification. Moreover, the most recent, clinically relevant updates in the treatment of AdCCmSG (Pubmed searches, specific guidelines) are critically discussed, aiming to a better understanding of this rare pathologic entity, potentially optimizing the care process, and offering a starting point for reflection on future therapeutic developments. EXPERT OPINION: The management of rare cancers is often hindered by limited data and clinical trials, lack of evidence-based guidelines, and hardly represented disease heterogeneity, which cannot be successfully tackled with a 'one-size-fits-all' approach. Our goal is to address these potential pitfalls, providing an easy-to-use, updated, multidisciplinary collection of expert opinions concerning AdCCmSG management as of today's clinical practice. We will also cover the most promising future perspectives, based on the potential therapeutic targets highlighted within AdCCmSG's molecular background.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate and compare the expression of E-cadherin, Snail1 and Twist1 in pleomorphic adenomas (PAs), adenoid cystic carcinomas (AdCCa) and carcinoma ex-pleomorphic adenomas (CaexPA) of salivary glands, as well as investigate possible associations with clinicopathological parameters. STUDY DESIGN: E-cadherin, Snail1 and Twist1 antibody immunostaining were analyzed semiquantitatively in 20 PAs, 20 AdCCas and 10 CaexPAs. Cases were classified as low and high expression for analysis of the association with clinicopathological parameters. RESULTS: Compared to PAs, AdCCas and CaexPAs exhibited higher nuclear expression of Snail1 (p = 0.021 and p = 0.028, respectively) and Twist1 (p = 0.009 and p = 0.001). Membranous and cytoplasmic expression of E-cadherin were positively correlated in PAs, AdCCas and CaexPAs (r = 0.645, p = 0.002; r = 0.824, p < 0.001; r = 0.677, p = 0.031). In PAs, positive correlation was found between nuclear expression of Snail1 and membrane expression of E-cadherin (r = 0.634; p = 0.003), as well as between nuclear expression of Snail1 and Twist1 (r = 0.580; p = 0.007). Negative correlations were detected between membrane expression of E-cadherin and cytoplasmic expression of Snail1 in AdCCas (r = - 0.489; p = 0.029). CONCLUSIONS: E-cadherin, Twist1, and Snail1 may participate in modulating events related to cell differentiation and adhesion in PAs and to biological behavior in AdCCas and CaexPAs, which indicates the involvement of EMT in these processes. Furthermore, the expression of these proteins in these carcinomas may reflect the plasticity feature of EMT.

BACKGROUND: MYB RNA in situ hybridization (ISH) has emerged as a reliable and accessible marker to support adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) diagnosis, though still not well studied. Here, we report our results in a validation and prospective cohort to improve MYB RNA ISH diagnostic accuracy. METHODS: 79 cases (23 retrospective and 56 prospective) underwent MYB RNA ISH testing (44 ACC and 35 non-ACC). MYB RNA ISH results were initially interpreted based on previously established (original) scoring criteria. Weighted "i-scores", percent positive tumor cells, percent tumor cells with large signals (% LS), and staining pattern (abluminal, diffuse, focal non-patterned, or negative) were inputs for logistic regression models. Final model performance characteristics were compared with original scoring criteria and MYB::NFIB FISH results. RESULTS: An abluminal pattern was characteristic and exclusive to ACC. All i-scores, % LS, and percent positive were significantly higher in ACC. Original scoring criteria yielded a 95.5% sensitivity (Sn), 68.6% specificity (Sp), and 83.5% accuracy. MYB::NFIB FISH yielded a 42.9% sensitivity, 100% specificity, and 60% accuracy. Optimizing for performance, simplicity, and minimal collinearity, our final model was defined as: abluminal pattern and/or % LS > 16.5%, which resulted in a 93.2% Sn, 97.1% Sp, and 94.9% accuracy for ACC diagnosis. False negatives included an ACC with striking tubular eosinophilia and a MYBL1::NFIB translocated ACC. One false positive exclusive to the final model was a nasopharyngeal carcinoma with MYB amplification. CONCLUSIONS: MYB RNA ISH has a higher Sn than MYB::NFIB FISH while retaining high Sp. Our model provides improvements to specificity compared to original scoring criteria and highlight the importance of abluminal staining pattern and % LS. Nonetheless, alternate fusions remain key false negatives while rare non-ACC with other mechanisms of MYB activation may present as false positives.

Objective:To analyze the difference in 5-year survival between maxillary sinus adenoidal cystic carcinoma(maxillary sinus adenoid cystic carcinoma, MSACC) and squamous cell carcinoma(maxillary sinus squamous cell carcinoma, MSSCC) using the National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End. Results:database(SEER) and to explore the factors associated with the prognosis of the two tumors. Methods:The data of 161 patients with MSACC and 929 patients with MSSCC were collected from SEER database, and the 5-year overall survival rate(OS) and tumor specific survival rate(CSS) were compared between the two groups before and after propensity score matching. The forest map of multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression model was established to analyze the prognostic factors affecting the survival rate of patients with MSACC and MSSCC. Results:There were statistical differences in 5-year OS and CSS between MSACC and MSSCC before and after propensity score matching(P<0.001). Multivariate regression analysis showed that age, side of the disease, lymph node metastasis, operation and radiotherapy were the influencing factors of OS in MSACC, while age and operation were the influencing factors of CSS. Age, race, T grade, lymph node metastasis, systemic metastasis, surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are the influencing factors of OS of MSSCC. Age, T grade, lymph node metastasis, systemic metastasis, surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are the influencing factors of CSS. Conclusion:The 5-year survival rate of MSACC is higher than that of MSSCC. Surgery plays a positive role in the prognosis of the two kinds of tumors. The analysis results can provide some reference for their survival expectations and treatment choices.

OBJECTIVE: Primary tracheal tumors are very rare and their management is not definitely established. Due to its rarity, providing patient care in terms of optimal management poses a considerable challenge. The purpose of this study was to investigate treatment outcomes in patients with these rare tumors. METHODS: We carried out a retrospective analysis of 89 patients with primary tracheal tumors treated at the Maria Sklodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology in Warsaw, Poland, over sixteen years. The study assessed patient demographics, tumor characteristics and treatment. Different treatment options were compared in terms of overall survival, disease-free survival, and progression-free survival. RESULTS: A total of 89 patients were included in the study. In the group presented, 45 patients underwent primary radical treatment and 44 were qualified for palliative treatment. Surgical resection was performed in 13 patients out of radically treated patients. The 5 year OS rates in the group of patients who underwent radical treatment and in the group of patients who underwent palliative treatment were 45.9% and 2.3%, respectively. In the group of patients who underwent radical surgical treatment, the 5 year OS was 76.9% compared to 35.8% in the group of patients who underwent nonsurgical treatment. CONCLUSION: A multidisciplinary team should decide treatment options, including in-depth consideration of surgical treatment options.
