RESUMO
Un concepto que influye determinantemente en el proceso de aprendizaje en los Policlínicos Universitarios es el concepto de la alfabetización en información (ALFIN). La ALFIN no es más que el conjunto de habilidades que requieren las personas para reconocer cuándo necesitan información, cómo localizarla, evaluarla y utilizarla eficazmente. Enfatiza en el contenido, la comunicación, el análisis, la búsqueda, evaluación y uso de la información. Las personas alfabetizadas en información son aquellas que han aprendido cómo aprender. Lograr ciudadanos educados, alfabetizados en información, se ha convertido rápidamente en un objetivo importante para muchos países. Los nuevos Policlínicos Universitarios no escapan a esta realidad
One concept that decisively influences over the learning process in the university polyclinics is the information literacy, which is the set of skills required by people to realize when information is needed and how to locate, assess and use it efficiently. It makes emphasis on the contents, the communication, the analysis, the search, the evaluation and the use of information. The literate people in information are those who have learned the way of getting knowledge. Attaining skilled and information literate students is rapidly becoming a fundamental objective for many counties. The new University Polyclinics do not ignore this reality

La alfabetización informacional es una línea de desarrollo determinante en el espacio de la educación superior en las ciencias médicas. El análisis del presente trabajo toma como base la traducción del artículo: Understanding Information Literacy, de Barbara Humes y llama a la reflexión del profesor universitario acerca de esta temática, para lo que se utilizan interrogantes que ayudan a la comprensión e implicación del tema, de manera que se puedan lograr profesionales competentes, capaces de alcanzar un aprendizaje para toda la vida, como buenos consumidores de información(AU)
Information literacy is a crucial guideline for development in higher education in the area of medical sciences. The analysis in this paper is based on the translation of the article Understanding Information Literacy, by Barbara Humes and it is aimed to achieve a higher degree of reflexion in university professors about this topic. In these sense, some questions to help the understanding and involvement with the subject are stated, so that we can have competent professionals with a lifetime learning and a good quality as information consumers(AU)

La alfabetización en información se presenta como un proceso impostergable en la sociedad actual. Las experiencias internacionales avalan el desarrollo vertiginoso de dicha actividad en diferentes sectores y regiones geogràficas. Se realiza un bosquejo sobre el proceso de alfabetización en información en Cuba a partir del anßlisis de las investigaciones no publicadas, los eventos científicos de la especialidad desarrollados en Cuba y las publicaciones científicas cubanas, con la intención de estudiar el comportamiento histórico y estado actual de esta actividad en el país. Se presentan algunas líneas de investigación para el futuro en el escenario cubano.
The information literacy is presented as a unpostponable process in the current society. The international experiences show the quick development of this activity in diverse sectors and geographic areas. A sketch is made about the information literacy process in Cuba, starting from the analysis of the unpublished researches, the scientific events of the specialty developed in Cuba and the Cuban scientific publications in order to study the historical behaviour and the current state of this activity in the country. Future research lines in the Cuban context are presented.

Identificar y desarrollar una adecuada estrategia de alfabetización digital significa plasmar una serie de objetivos y tareas conducentes a lograr, en el menor plazo posible, la adquisición de los conocimientos, las habilidades y las actitudes necesarias para un mejor desenvolvimiento del individuo en la era digital en que vivimos. Se realiza una aproximación a las ideas y conceptos utilizados actualmente en el contexto de la necesidad de crear determinadas competencias que caractericen la educación en una nueva era.
To identify and develop an appropriate digital schooling strategy means to set a series of objectives and work aimed at achieving, in the least time possible, the knowledge, the skills and the attitudes necessary for a proper progress of each individual in the digital era we are living in. An approach is made to the ideas and concepts currently used when dealing with the need of creating certain abilities that will characterize education in a new era.
