RESUMO

In the German Ordinance on Occupational Diseases (BKV), there are currently 82 occupational diseases listed, of which 18 partially or completely fall within the field of ENT medicine due to the associated health disorders. Noise-induced hearing loss is usually the focus of attention for the ENT specialist, but it has long since ceased to be the only occupational disease. In order to help uncover possible causalities between occupational noxious substances and diseases, it is important that physicians report their own observations and new scientific findings regarding suspected cases to the German Social Accident Insurance, especially in situations where cancer may be linked to occupational influences.

BACKGROUND: The discriminatory and racist policy of historical redlining in the United States (U.S.) during the 1930s played a role in perpetuating contemporary environmental health disparities. OBJECTIVE: Our objectives were to determine associations between home and school pollutant exposure (fine particulate matter (PM2.5), nitrogen dioxide (NO2)) and respiratory outcomes (Composite Asthma Severity Index (CASI), lung function) among school-aged children with asthma and examine whether associations differed between children who resided and/or attended school in historically redlined compared to non-redlined neighborhoods. METHODS: Children ages 6 to 17 with moderate-to-severe asthma (N=240) from 9 U.S. cities were included. Combined home and school exposure to PM2.5 and NO2 was calculated based on geospatially assessed monthly averaged outdoor pollutant concentrations. Repeated measures of CASI and lung function were collected. RESULTS: Overall, 37.5% of children resided and/or attended schools in historically redlined neighborhoods. Children in historically redlined neighborhoods had greater exposure to NO2 (median: 15.4 vs 12.1 ppb) and closer distance to a highway (median: 0.86 vs 1.23 km), compared to those in non-redlined neighborhoods (p<0.01). Overall, PM2.5 was not associated with asthma severity or lung function. However, among children in redlined neighborhoods, higher PM2.5 was associated with worse asthma severity (p<0.005). No association was observed between pollutants and lung function or asthma severity among children in non-redlined neighborhoods (p>0.005). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings highlight the significance of historical redlining and current environmental health disparities among school-aged children with asthma, specifically, the environmental injustice of PM2.5 exposure and its associations with respiratory health.

Conventional immunosuppressants are ineffective for the management of EGPA-related asthma. Tezepelumab is a human monoclonal antibody that inhibits thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TLSP) that has proven efficacy in several phase 3 studies for the treatment of asthma. We treated with off-label tezepelumab the first two patients with severe refractory EPGA-related asthma. These preliminary findings suggest that targeting upstream signaling of the T2 inflammatory pathway can improve symptoms, reduce BVAS and increase Asthma Control Test scores, even in patients with refractory asthma who have failed several previous lines of treatment. Nevertheless, by analogy with dupilumab-induced IL-4/13 blockade, the persistence of sputum eosinophilia (reported in both patients) raises questions as to whether TSLP inhibition could lead to a rebound of eosinophilia and potentially to eosinophil-related symptoms in patients with EGPA.

BACKGROUND: Severe asthma (SA) presents a considerable healthcare challenge despite optimal standard treatment. Dupilumab, which is effective in type 2 (T2) SA patients, demonstrates variable responses, categorizing patients as non-responders, partial responders, or those achieving clinical remission. However, real-world response rates remain underexplored. Additionally, understanding the characteristics of patients achieving clinical remission is crucial for predicting favourable responses to dupilumab. OBJECTIVE: To investigate responder types and identify predictors of clinical remission and non-response induced by dupilumab in a real-world cohort of SA patients. METHODS: We analysed retrospective data from SA patients undergoing dupilumab treatment in a study conducted at Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland hospital. Data were collected at baseline and at a 12 to 24-months follow-up (T=12). Response rates were evaluated at T=12. Predictors of non-response and clinical remission were investigated using multivariate logistic regression analysis with a stepwise forward variable selection approach. RESULTS: Among the 175 patients screened, 136 met the inclusion criteria. At T=12, 31.6% achieved clinical remission, 47.1% were partial responders and 21.3% were non-responders. Predictors associated with clinical remission included high baseline blood eosinophil counts (BEC) and male sex. Conversely, younger age at baseline, low baseline total immunoglobine E (IgE) and low baseline fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) levels were identified as predictors of non-response. CONCLUSIONS: Dupilumab results in clinical disease remission in one-third of the treated patients. Clinical remission is predicted by high BEC and male sex, whereas low total IgE, low FeNO and younger age indicate a lower likelihood of response.

Periostin is a matricellular protein known to be alternatively spliced to produce ten isoforms with a molecular weight of 78-91 kDa. Within the extracellular matrix, periostin attaches to cell surfaces to induce signaling via integrin-binding and actively participates in fibrillogenesis, orchestrating the arrangement of collagen in the extracellular environment. In atopic diseases such as atopic dermatitis (AD) and asthma, periostin is known to participate in driving the disease-causing type 2 inflammation. The periostin isoforms expressed in these diseases and the implication of the alternative splicing events are unknown. Here, we present two universal assays to map the expression of periostin isoforms at the mRNA (RT-qPCR) and protein (PRM-based mass spectrometry) levels. We use these assays to study the splicing profile of periostin in AD lesions as well as in in vitro models of AD and asthma. In these conditions, periostin displayed overexpression with isoforms 3 and 5 standing out as highly overexpressed. Notably, isoforms 9 and 10 exhibited a divergent pattern relative to the remaining isoforms. Isoforms 9 and 10 are often overlooked in periostin research and this paper presents the first evidence of their expression at the protein level. This underlines the necessity to include isoforms 9 and 10 in future research addressing periostin splice isoforms. The assays presented in this paper hold the potential to improve our insight into the splicing profile of periostin in tissues and diseases of interest. The application of these assays to AD lesions and in vitro models demonstrated their potential for identifying isoforms of particular significance, warranting a further in-depth investigation.

Asthma is a chronic pulmonary disease with the worldwide prevalence. The structural alterations of airway walls, termed as "airway remodeling", are documented as the core contributor to the airway dysfunction during chronic asthma. Forkhead box transcription factor FOXK2 is a critical regulator of glycolysis, a metabolic reprogramming pathway linked to pulmonary fibrosis. However, the role of FOXK2 in asthma waits further explored. In this study, the chronic asthmatic mice were induced via ovalbumin (OVA) sensitization and repetitive OVA challenge. FOXK2 was upregulated in the lungs of OVA mice and downregulated after adenovirus-mediated FOXK2 silencing. The lung inflammation, peribronchial collagen deposition, and glycolysis in OVA mice were obviously attenuated after FOXK2 knockdown. Besides, the expressions of FOXK2 and SIRT2 in human bronchial epithelial cells (BEAS-2B) were increasingly upregulated upon TGF-ß1 stimulation and downregulated after FOXK2 knockdown. Moreover, the functional loss of FOXK2 remarkably suppressed TGF-ß1-induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and glycolysis in BEAS-2B cells, as manifested by the altered expressions of EMT markers and glycolysis enzymes. The glycolysis inhibitor 2-deoxy-d-glucose (2-DG) inhibited the EMT in TGF-ß1-induced cells, making glycolysis a driver of EMT. The binding of FOXK2 to SIRT2 was validated, and SIRT2 overexpression blocked the FOXK2 knockdown-mediated inhibition of EMT and glycolysis in TGF-ß1-treated cells, which suggests that FOXK2 regulates EMT and glycolysis in TGF-ß1-treated cells in a SIRT2-dependnet manner. Collectively, this study highlights the protective effect of FOXK2 knockdown on airway remodeling during chronic asthma.

BACKGROUND: Asthma is a chronic disease that often requires medication for control. Polypharmacy remains a major issue to medication adherence; however, its evidence among patients with asthma is limited. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the prevalence and determinants of polypharmacy and its associations with asthma control among adults with asthma in the United States. METHODS: Data from the 2005-2020 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) were used to estimate the weighted prevalence of polypharmacy. Selected variables, including demographics, comorbidities, prescription medications, and asthma-related adverse events, were extracted from the NHANES. Multivariable logistic regression was conducted to identify factors associated with polypharmacy. Another two sets of multivariable logistic regression models were employed to further assess the association between polypharmacy and asthma-related adverse events: one for asthma attacks and the other for asthma-related emergency room visits. RESULTS: From 2005 to 2020, polypharmacy prevalence was 34.3% and 14.1% among adults with and without asthma, respectively. Characteristics, including older age (P<0.01), non-Hispanic blacks (P<0.01), health insurance coverage (P<0.01), number of healthcare visits (P<0.01), and multiple comorbidities (P<0.01) were associated with polypharmacy. Polypharmacy was associated with increased risks of having asthma attacks (OR, 1.38; 95% CI, 1.08-1.76) and asthma-related emergency room visits (OR, 1.46; 95% CI, 1.09-1.94) among adults with asthma. Among patients taking at least one asthma medication, risks of asthma attacks and asthma-related ER visits did not differ between those with and without polypharmacy. CONCLUSION: Approximately one in three adults with asthma experienced polypharmacy in the United States. Disparities existed in several characteristics, highlighting the necessity for appropriate care and policies among vulnerable populations. Further validation on the impact of polypharmacy on asthma control is required.

BACKGROUND: Several studies on the serum level of vitamin D and the percentage of vitamin D deficiency in children with asthma have been conducted in Asia and Africa, but the results have been inconsistent and inconclusive, requiring a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the strength of the evidence. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this review is to synthesize evidence on serum levels of vitamin D and the percentage of vitamin D deficiency among children with asthma in Asia and Africa. METHODS: To identify relevant articles, a comprehensive search was conducted across various databases and repositories such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Hinary, Web of Science, ResearchGate, as well as gray literature sources. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines were followed during the retrieval process. Data extraction was performed following a standardized format based on the JBI (Joanna Briggs Institute) data extraction guidelines. Microsoft Excel was utilized for data extraction, and subsequently, the data was exported to STATA 17 for further analysis. To assess the heterogeneity among the included studies, Cochrane Q-statistics and the I2 tests were employed. Publication bias was assessed using the Egger test and funnel plot. RESULT: This meta-analysis investigated 33 articles encompassing a total of 3432 children diagnosed with asthma. The findings demonstrated that in low- or middle-income countries across Africa and Asia, children with asthma had an average serum vitamin D level of 21.9 ng/ml (95% confidence interval [CI]: 18.0-25.9 ng/ml), with 53.7% (95% CI: 40.5-66.9) experiencing vitamin D deficiency. Additionally, when considering the continent, children with asthma in Asia had an average serum vitamin D level of 18.5 ng/ml (95% CI: 13.8-23.3), while those in Africa had a level of 28.7 ng/ml (95% CI: 22.7-34.8). The analysis further explored different sub-group analyses. Depending on the study design, case-control studies yielded an average serum vitamin D level of 20.3 ng/ml (95% CI: 18.2-22.4), whereas cross-sectional studies resulted in 23.8 ng/ml (95% CI: 17.5-30.1). Based on publication year, studies published on or before 2015 had an average serum level of 21.0 ng/ml (95% CI: 18.0-24.0), while those published after 2015 had a level of 22.4 ng/ml (95% CI: 17.2-27.7). Moreover, when considering sample size, studies with 100 participants or less had an average serum level of 21.7 ng/ml (95% CI: 17.3-26.1), while studies with more than 100 participants had a level of 22.1 ng/ml (95% CI: 18.6-25.6). CONCLUSION: Children with asthma in Asia and Africa were found to have low serum levels of vitamin D and a high percentage of vitamin D deficiency. This highlights the importance of early detection and monitoring of vitamin D levels in these children to prevent potential complications associated with vitamin D deficiency. Taking proactive measures to address and manage vitamin D deficiency is crucial for the well-being of children with asthma in these regions.

BACKGROUND: Dupilumab exerts clinical effects, including improved sinus opacification, olfactory function, and quality of life, in patients with severe chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). Meanwhile, only a few studies have reported its effects on nasal airway resistance and olfactory function, particularly in the Japanese population. Predictors of response remain unclear. OBJECTIVE: In this prospective, observational study, we assessed the comprehensive efficacy and therapeutic response to dupilumab in severe CRSwNP patients with comorbid asthma. METHODS: In 16 adult severe CRSwNP patients with comorbid asthma, the efficacy of 48-week dupilumab treatment, including olfactory function measured by a T&T olfactometer, nasal airway resistance measured by rhinomanometry, nasal polyp score, Lund-Mackay computed tomography score (LMS), and 22-item Sinonasal Outcome Test (SNOT-22), was assessed. Regarding asthma, the annualized rate of exacerbations, 7-item Asthma Control Questionnaire (ACQ-7), and spirometry were assessed. Treatment responsiveness was analyzed. RESULTS: With 48-week dupilumab treatment, olfactory function, nasal airway resistance, nasal polyp score, LMS, and SNOT-22 scores improved significantly. Regarding comorbid asthma, the rate of exacerbations decreased, and ACQ-7 scores and lung function improved significantly. According to the European Position Paper on Rhinosinusitis and Nasal Polyps 2022/European Forum for Research and Education in Allergy and Airway Diseases criteria, 15 patients (94%) were moderate-to-excellent responders at 48 weeks of treatment. Patients with higher SNOT-22 scores, ACQ-7 scores, rates of asthma exacerbation in the previous year, and blood eosinophil counts benefited more from treatment. CONCLUSION: Dupilumab improved upper and lower airway outcomes especially in severe CRSwNP patients with comorbid, poorly controlled asthma.

BACKGROUND: Clinical and preclinical evidence indicate that in utero maternal asthma exposure increases progeny asthma risk. Whether maternal asthma also increases the risks of progeny allergy is unclear. OBJECTIVES: To synthesise the available evidence on the relationship between in utero exposure to maternal asthma and postnatal asthma, wheezing and allergic diseases (Prospero: CRD42020201538). SEARCH STRATEGY: We systematically searched MEDLINE [PubMed], Embase [Ovid], Web of Science, Informit Health, the Cochrane Library, CINAHL [EBSCOhost], MedNar [Deep Web Technologies], ProQuest Theses and Dissertations, Scopus [Elsevier] and Trove, to the end of 2023. SELECTION CRITERIA: Studies reporting asthma, wheeze and/or allergic disease in progeny of women with and without asthma or with asthma classified by control, exacerbation or severity. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS: Double screening, selection, data extraction and quality assessment were performed, using Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) scoring. MAIN RESULTS: Of 134 non-overlapping studies, 127 were included in ≥1 meta-analysis. Maternal asthma ever was associated with greater risks of asthma (65 studies, risk ratio [95% confidence interval] 1.76 [1.57-1.96]), wheeze (35 studies, 1.59 [1.52-1.66]), food allergy (5 studies, 1.32 [1.23-1.40]), allergic rhinitis (7 studies, 1.18 [1.06-1.31]) and allergic dermatitis (14 studies, 1.17 [1.11-1.23]) ever in progeny. Asthma during the pregnancy, more severe, and uncontrolled maternal asthma were each associated with greater risks of progeny asthma. CONCLUSIONS: Children of mothers with asthma are at increased risk for the development of allergic diseases. Whether improved maternal asthma control reduces risks of child allergy as well as asthma requires further investigation.

INTRODUCTION: Pollution harms the health of people with asthma. The effect of the anti-inflammatory cholinergic pathway in chronic allergic inflammation associated to pollution is poorly understood. METHODS: One hundred eight animals were divided into 18 groups (6 animals). Groups included: wild type mice (WT), genetically modified with reduced VAChT (VAChTKD), and those sensitized with ovalbumin (VAChTKDA), exposed to metal powder due to iron pelletizing in mining company (Local1) or 3.21 miles away from a mining company (Local2) in their locations for 2 weeks during summer and winter seasons. It was analyzed for hyperresponsivity, inflammation, remodeling, oxidative stress responses and the cholinergic system. RESULTS: During summer, animals without changes in the cholinergic system revealed that Local1 exposure increased the hyperresponsiveness (%Rrs, %Raw), and inflammation (IL-17) relative to vivarium animals, while animals exposed to Local2 also exhibited elevated IL-17. During winter, animals without changes in the cholinergic system revealed that Local2 exposure increased the hyperresponsiveness (%Rrs) relative to vivarium animals. Comparing the exposure local of these animals during summer, animals exposed to Local1 showed elevated %Rrs, Raw, and IL-5 compared to Local 2, while in winter, Local2 exposure led to more IL-17 than Local1. Animals with VAChT attenuation displayed increased %Rrs, NFkappaB, IL-5, and IL-13 but reduced alpha-7 compared to animals without changes in the cholinergic system WT. Animals with VAChT attenuation and asthma showed increased the hyperresponsiveness, all inflammatory markers, remodeling and oxidative stress compared to animals without chronic lung inflammation. Exposure to Local1 exacerbated the hyperresponsiveness, oxidative stressand inflammation in animals with VAChT attenuation associated asthma, while Local2 exposure led to increased inflammation, remodeling and oxidative stress. CONCLUSIONS: Reduced cholinergic signaling amplifies lung inflammation in a model of chronic allergic lung inflammation. Furthermore, when associated with pollution, it can aggravate specific responses related to inflammation, oxidative stress, and remodeling.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the correlation between asthma risk and genetic variants affecting the expression or function of lipid-lowering drug targets. METHODS: We conducted Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses using variants in several genes associated with lipid-lowering medication targets: HMGCR (statin target), PCSK9 (alirocumab target), NPC1L1 (ezetimibe target), APOB (mipomersen target), ANGPTL3 (evinacumab target), PPARA (fenofibrate target), and APOC3 (volanesorsen target), as well as LDLR and LPL. Our objective was to investigate the relationship between lipid-lowering drugs and asthma through MR. Finally, we assessed the efficacy and stability of the MR analysis using the MR Egger and inverse variance weighted (IVW) methods. RESULTS: The elevated triglyceride (TG) levels associated with the APOC3, and LPL targets were found to increase asthma risk. Conversely, higher LDL-C levels driven by LDLR were found to decrease asthma risk. Additionally, LDL-C levels (driven by APOB, NPC1L1 and HMGCR targets) and TG levels (driven by the LPL target) were associated with improved lung function (FEV1/FVC). LDL-C levels driven by PCSK9 were associated with decreased lung function (FEV1/FVC). CONCLUSION: In conclusion, our findings suggest a likely causal relationship between asthma and lipid-lowering drugs. Moreover, there is compelling evidence indicating that lipid-lowering therapies could play a crucial role in the future management of asthma.

Background: This study continues the review by Gøtzsche and Johansen (Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2008, Art. No: CD001187), aiming to systematically generate hypotheses on the effectiveness of (sub)strategies for house dust mite allergen avoidance in the treatment of allergic asthma. Methods: We used the trials previously analysed by Gøtzsche and Johansen and searched recently published studies. Data on asthma symptom scores (ASS), ACQ, number of improved patients, AQLQ-scores, medication use, FEV1%, PC20, and FeNO levels were analysed. The effectiveness of strategies was assessed using Metafor in R. Results: Thirty-five trials involving 2419 patients were included in the final study. The patient-reported outcome number of patients with improved condition following total bedroom control was RR = 3.39 (95% confidence interval: 1.04 to 11.04, P = 0.04). The mean differences in the ASS by nocturnal air purification was -0.7 (95% confidence interval: -1.08 to -0.32, P < 0.001). Other outcomes including partial bedroom control were non-significant or clinically not of importance. Conclusions: Total bedroom control and nocturnal air purification of the breathing zone hypothetically provides clinical benefits in patients with house dust mite-induced allergic asthma. The number of patients with improvements in their condition respectively the asthma symptom score differences showed potential in small subgroups, consisting of single studies. Objective: Asthma is a common disease and curcumin has modest effect in inflammatory disorders. This study investigated the efficacy of nano-curcumin on asthma. Materials and Methods: In this double-blinded randomized clinical trial, 60 patients with non-atopic bronchial asthma were randomly stratified in two groups of intervention (N=30) and control (N=30) groups. Apart from their standard treatment, the intervention group received 40 mg nano-curcumin (soft gel) three times daily while the control group received placebo. During the 60-day study, patients were assessed using spirometry to measure Forced expiratory volume in first second (FEV1). Asthma control test (ACT) was completed every 30 days and asthma quality of life questionnaire (AQLQ) was completed at the first and end of the study. Results: Totally, 31 patients (51.7%) were male and the mean age was 51.45±12.58 years. FEV1 was improved but there was no significant difference between intervention and control groups. ACT and AQLQ domains scores significantly improved. However, it was not statistically different between control and intervention groups. Conclusion: Nano-curcumin at administered dosage had no additive effect on the standard treatment in asthmatic patients.

Objective: The article studies how Melissa officinalis L. extract and rosmarinic acid (RA) affect lung inflammation, pathology, and oxidative stress in rats with ovalbumin-induced asthma. Materials and Methods: Asthma was induced in rats using ovalbumin injection and inhalation. The study assessed lung inflammation, pathological changes, and oxidative stress in control, untreated asthmatic rats and three treatment groups. These groups received M. officinalis extract (50, 100, 200 mg/kg), RA (0.5, 1, 2 mg/kg), or dexamethasone (Dex) 1 mg/kg. Results: In the sensitized group, white blood cell counts, malondialdehyde, and nitrite levels increased significantly, while thiol levels and the activity of superoxide dismutase and catalase decreased (p<0.001). However, all treatment groups with the extract, RA, and Dex showed a significant reduction in total white blood cells, eosinophils, monocytes, malondialdehyde, and nitrite levels compared to the asthma group (p<0.001 in all groups). Thiol levels and catalase and superoxide dismutase activity were significantly higher in all treated groups with RA and high extract doses (p<0.001). Lung pathological changes were also significantly less severe in the treated groups with dexamethasone, plant extract, and RA compared to the asthma group (p<0.05 to p<0.001). Conclusion: This study showed that M. officinalis and RA have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in an animal asthma model, suggesting their potential for treating asthma symptoms.

This editorial discusses a case-control study by Ibrahim et al, published in the recent issue of the World Journal of Clinical Pediatrics. Childhood bronchial asthma is a chronic inflammatory respiratory disease. It was found that an increase in oxidative stress leads to a decrease in antioxidants causing oxidative damage to mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes resulting in the inflammation of the airway, hypersecretion of mucus causing a cascade of clinical manifestations ranging from recurrent episodes of coughing, wheezing, and breathlessness to shortness of breath. Since oxidative stress mediates the inflammatory response in asthma, the supplementation of anti-oxidants can be one strategy to manage this disease. Zinc is one such antioxidant that has attracted much attention about asthma and airway inflammation. Zinc is a crucial trace element for human metabolism that helps to regulate gene expression, enzyme activity, and protein structure. Apart from zinc, free serum ferritin levels are also elevated in case of inflammation. Several previous studies found that ferritin levels may also help determine the pathology of disease and predict prognosis in addition to tracking disease activity. However, this study's results were different from the findings of the previous studies and the zinc levels did not show a significant difference between asthmatic children and non-asthmatic children but ferritin levels were significantly high in asthmatic children as compared to the controls. Hence, the possible role of the biochemical nutritional assessment including zinc and ferritin as biomarkers for asthma severity should be assessed in the future.

Background: Despite its significant prevalence worldwide, atopy and allergic diseases continue to need more studies, with a need for published articles describing the prevalence of atopy and allergic diseases in Saudi society. The study aimed to determine the prevalence of atopic dermatitis diseases among college students at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University. Methods: The Cross-sectional study was conducted in Saudi Arabia among college students at Imam Mohammed bin Saud Islamic University in Riyadh based on self-report Asthma and Allergies questionnaires (ISSAC questionnaire, atopic dermatitis part). Results: Seven hundred ninety-seven (797) students from 11 colleges participated in the study. About half (47.6%) aged between 21 and 24, and 73.7% were females. More than one-third (34.8%) had atopic dermatitis during the last six months, while 30.7% of the participants reported having itchy rash in the past 12 months, and 33.8% were diagnosed with eczema in any life interval. Age is not one of the significant factors affecting the prevalence of atopic dermatitis. However, the prevalence of atopic dermatitis slightly increases with age (P = 0.062). Atopic dermatitis was significantly higher among female students (39.7%) than 21.0% among male students (P = 0.000). College level nor GPA had no significant impact on the prevalence of atopic dermatitis (P = 0.238 and 0.884, respectively). Conclusion: Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University students have a high prevalence of atopic dermatitis, which may indicate a higher prevalence of allergens. Females and older participants were more liable to reported atopic dermatitis.
