RESUMO

A 19-year-old female affected by dentinogenesis imperfecta type II (DI-II), a genetic disease that affects the structural integrity of the dentin, presented with a chief complaint of discolored teeth. For this patient, digital techniques, including digital smile design (DSD), the ARCUSdigma axiograph and computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), were extensively used in all phases of the rehabilitation process. Compared to traditional analog methods, these digital techniques could reduce the constant confirmation of occlusion, promote communication between clinicians and dental technicians, achieve accurate occlusion with relatively high efficiency, and improve the efficacy of esthetic rehabilitation in the treatment of this patient with DI-II.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this investigation is to find out the differences in the condylar pathways of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in patients treated with stabilizing splint and arthrocentesis accompanied by stabilizing splint in 6 months period. STUDY DESIGN: Forty patients who were assigned a clinical diagnosis of internal derangement of the TMJ were included in this study. Full arch stabilizing splints were made for all patients. Patients were divided into two groups; group A (patients who underwent arthrocentesis), group B (patients who did not underwent arthrocentesis). Computerized axiography was performed for each group before therapy (T0), on the 3(rd) month (T1), after arthrocentesis (TA) (for group A) and on 6th month (T2). Curve parameters were recorded in three-dimension; X axis (posteroanterior), Y axis (mediolateral), Z axis (superoinferior). Also the distance from the starting point of the movement on sagittal plane (S) was calculated. RESULTS: There was a significant increase in the value of Z (p = 0.014) and S (p = 0.038) in mediotrusion movement in group A. Also, there was a significant increase in the value of Z (p = 0.007) in protrusion/retrusion movement, value of Z (p = 0.019) and S value (p = 0.002) in mediotrusion movement and value of Y in open/close movement in group B. CONCLUSIONS: No positive effects on condylar pathways of an additional arthrocentesis to splint therapy alone in patients with internal derangement were found in this study.

RESUMO

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: In the Protar articulator, the models are almost parallel with the Camper's plane. The ultrasonic-based ARCUSdigma system is basis for the determination of dynamic function parameters with so-called "articulator related registration". PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare the sagittal condylar guidance angles found by use of the wax protrusive records in a semi-adjustable articulator(KaVo Protar 7) with those found by use of the Axiograph(ARCUSdigma). 83 volunteers with intact dentition participated in this study after obtainment of informed consent. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The sagittal condylar guidance angles were measured and estimated statistically by semi-articulator and Axiograph. All the readings were in degrees. No control was used in this project. To test whether there was a significant difference between the 2 independent samples, paired t-test and Kruskal-Wallis test were carried out(p=.05). RESULTS: 1. The mean results for the wax protrusive records were as follow: right side (32.65 degrees, SD 16.48); left side (33.27 degrees, SD 17.49). 2. The mean results for the Axiograph were as follow: right side (32.26 degrees, SD 7.00); left side (33.07 degrees, SD 7.58). 3. There was no statistical difference on the wax protrusive records and Axiograph(p>0.05). CONCLUSION: Both methods of wax protrusive records and Axiograph are clinically acceptable for measuring the sagittal condylar guidance angles in semi-adjustable articulators.
