BACKGROUND: In pediatric cardiology, the fact that some new biomarkers have assay-specific normal values has to be considered for correct clinical decisions. The current study aimed to provide age-adjusted normative values for NT-proBNP and Galectin-3 using the Abbott immunoassay system from a prospective French pediatric cohort sera collection and to validate our data for NT-proBNP on a second retrospective cohort. METHODS: We analyzed 283 consecutive samples for NT-proBNP and 140 samples for Galectin-3 collected from apparently healthy children (0-18 years) with outpatient treatment at our institution (Hôpital Necker-Enfants malades, Paris, France) during 24 months. RESULTS: For NT-proBNP and Galectin-3, we establish four age partitions, respectively two (<2 years / >2 years) and establish upper reference values and their 90 % CI for each biomarker (Galectin-3 (ng/mL): 56 [44-70] / 26 [23-29]). We evaluated the diagnostic performance of our upper reference values of NT-proBNP on a retrospective cohort (n = 428) with positive predictive value of 0.92. CONCLUSIONS: Using Abbott immunoassay system, we report age-specific reference values for NT-proBNP and for the first time for Galectin-3 in a healthy French pediatric cohort. These data call for larger cohort studies to define more robustly percentiles and diagnostic performance for NT-proBNP.

BACKGROUND: End-stage renal disease (ESRD) necessitating hemodialysis pose substantial cardiovascular risks, with cardiovascular disease (CVD) as a leading cause of mortality. Biomarkers like copeptin have emerged as potential indicators of cardiovascular stress and prognosis in CKD populations. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the prognostic value of copeptin in predicting major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) among hemodialysis patients, alongside traditional cardiac biomarkers. METHODS: ESRD patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis were enrolled. Copeptin levels were measured, and patients were followed for MACEs, defined as cardiovascular deaths, myocardial infarction, stroke, or heart failure-related hospitalizations. Cox proportional-hazards models were used to evaluate the association between copeptin and outcomes, adjusting for relevant covariates. RESULTS: Among 351 patients followed for a median of 22.7 months, elevated copeptin levels were significantly associated with an increased risk of MACEs (HR 1.519, 95 % CI 1.140 to 2.023; p = 0.00425). Copeptin demonstrated predictive capability across multiple statistical tests (Log-rank p = 0.024; Gehan p < 0.001; Tarone-Ware p < 0.001; Peto-Peto p = 0.027), although significance was attenuated in pairwise comparisons post-adjustment for multiple testing. Combining copeptin with NT-proBNP or hs-cTnT further enhanced risk stratification for MACEs. CONCLUSION: Elevated copeptin levels independently predict adverse cardiovascular outcomes in hemodialysis patients. Integrating copeptin with traditional cardiac biomarkers may refine risk stratification and guide personalized therapeutic strategies in this high-risk population.

BACKGROUND: In Alzheimer's disease (AD) diagnosis, a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarker panel is commonly interpreted with binary cutoff values. However, these values are not generic and do not reflect the disease continuum. We explored the use of interval-specific likelihood ratios (LRs) and probability-based models for AD using a CSF biomarker panel. METHODS: CSF biomarker (Aß1-42, tTau and pTau181) data for both a clinical discovery cohort of 241 patients (measured with INNOTEST) and a clinical validation cohort of 129 patients (measured with EUROIMMUN), both including AD and non-AD dementia/cognitive complaints were retrospectively retrieved in a single-center study. Interval-specific LRs for AD were calculated and validated for univariate and combined (Aß1-42/tTau and pTau181) biomarkers, and a continuous bivariate probability-based model for AD, plotting Aß1-42/tTau versus pTau181 was constructed and validated. RESULTS: LR for AD increased as individual CSF biomarker values deviated from normal. Interval-specific LRs of a combined biomarker model showed that once one biomarker became abnormal, LRs increased even further when another biomarker largely deviated from normal, as replicated in the validation cohort. A bivariate probability-based model predicted AD with a validated accuracy of 88% on a continuous scale. CONCLUSIONS: Interval-specific LRs in a combined biomarker model and prediction of AD using a continuous bivariate biomarker probability-based model, offer a more meaningful interpretation of CSF AD biomarkers on a (semi-)continuous scale with respect to the post-test probability of AD across different assays and cohorts.

In this study, two wheat-derived cadmium (Cd)-immobilizing endophytic Pseudomonas paralactis M14 and Priestia megaterium R27 were evaluated for their effects on wheat tissue Cd uptake under hydroponic conditions. Then, the impacts of the biochar (BC), M14+R27 (MR), and BC+MR treatments on wheat Cd uptake and the mechanisms involved were investigated at the jointing, heading, and mature stages of wheat plants under field-plot conditions. A hydroponic experiment showed that the MR treatment significantly decreased the above-ground tissue Cd content compared with the M14 or R27 treatment. The BC+MR treatment reduced the grain Cd content by 51.5%-67.7% and Cd translocation factor at the mature stage of wheat plants and increased the organic matter-bound Cd content by 31%-75% in the rhizosphere soils compared with the BC or MR treatment. Compared with the BC or MR treatment, the relative abundances of the biomarkers associated with Gemmatimonas, Altererythrobacter, Gammaproteobacteria, Xanthomonadaceae, Phenylobacterium, and Nocardioides in the BC+MR-treated rhizosphere microbiome decreased and negatively correlated with the organic matter-bound Cd contents. In the BC+MR-treated root interior microbiome, the relative abundance of the biomarker belonging to Exiguobacterium increased and negatively correlated with the Cd translocation factor, while the relative abundance of the biomarker belonging to Pseudonocardiaceae decreased and positively correlated with the Cd translocation factor. Our findings suggested that the BC+MR treatment reduced Cd availability and Cd transfer through affecting the abundances of these specific biomarkers in the rhizosphere soil and root interior microbiomes, leading to decreased wheat grain Cd uptake in the contaminated soil.

Electrochemical approaches, along with miniaturization of electrodes, are increasingly being employed to detect and quantify nucleic acid biomarkers. Miniaturization of the electrodes is achieved through the use of screen-printed electrodes (SPEs), which consist of one to a few dozen sets of electrodes, or by utilizing printed circuit boards. Electrode materials used in SPEs include glassy carbon (Chiang H-C, Wang Y, Zhang Q, Levon K, Biosensors (Basel) 9:2-11, 2019), platinum, carbon, and graphene (Cheng FF, He TT, Miao HT, Shi JJ, Jiang LP, Zhu JJ, ACS Appl Mater Interfaces 7:2979-2985, 2015). There are numerous modifications to the electrode surfaces as well (Cheng FF, He TT, Miao HT, Shi JJ, Jiang LP, Zhu JJ, ACS Appl Mater Interfaces 7:2979-2985, 2015). These approaches offer distinct advantages, primarily due to their demonstrated superior limit of detection without amplification. Using the SPEs and potentiostats, we can detect cells, proteins, DNA, and RNA concentrations in the nanomolar (nM) to attomolar (aM) range. The focus of this chapter is to describe the basic approach adopted for the use of SPEs for nucleic acid measurement.

RESUMO

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common malignant tumor with the third and second highest incidence and mortality rates among various malignant tumors. Despite significant advancements in the present therapy for CRC, the majority of CRC cases feature proficient mismatch repair/microsatellite stability and have no response to immunotherapy. Therefore, the search for new treatment options holds immense importance in the diagnosis and treatment of CRC. In recent years, clinical research on immunotherapy combined with epigenetic therapy has gradually increased, which may bring hope for these patients. This review explores the role of epigenetic regulation in exerting antitumor effects through its action on immune cell function and highlights the potential of certain epigenetic genes that can be used as markers of immunotherapy to predict therapeutic efficacy. We also discuss the application of epigenetic drug sensitization immunotherapy to develop new treatment options combining epigenetic therapy and immunotherapy.

This study examines the impact of estrogenic compounds like bisphenol A (BPA), estradiol (E2), and zearalenone (ZEA) on human ovarian cancer, focusing on constructing a risk model, conducting Gene Set Variation Analysis (GSVA), and evaluating immune infiltration. Differential gene expression analysis identified 980 shared differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in human ovarian cells exposed to BPA, E2, and ZEA, indicating disruptions in ribosome biogenesis and RNA processing. Using the Cancer Genome Atlas Ovarian Cancer (TCGA-OV) dataset, a least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO)-based risk model was developed incorporating prognostic genes 4-Hydroxyphenylpyruvate Dioxygenase Like (HPDL), Thy-1 Cell Surface Antigen (THY1), and Peptidase Inhibitor 3 (PI3). This model effectively stratified ovarian cancer patients into high-risk and low-risk categories, showing significant differences in overall survival, disease-specific survival, and progression-free survival. GSVA analysis linked HPDL expression to pathways related to the cell cycle, DNA damage, and repair, while THY1 and PI3 were associated with apoptosis, hypoxia, and proliferation pathways. Immune infiltration analysis revealed distinct immune cell profiles for high and low expression groups of HPDL, THY1, and PI3, indicating their influence on the tumor microenvironment. The findings demonstrate that estrogenic compounds significantly alter gene expression and oncogenic pathways in ovarian cancer. The risk model integrating HPDL, THY1, and PI3 offers a strong prognostic tool, with GSVA and immune infiltration analyses providing insights into the interplay between these genes and the tumor microenvironment, suggesting potential targets for personalized therapies.

Background: Radiation-induced cardiotoxicity poses a significant challenge in lung cancer management because of the close anatomical proximity of the heart to the lungs, compounded by a high prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors among patients. Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the predictive value of routinely available clinical and imaging-based cardiac parameters in identifying "high risk" patients for major adverse cardiac events (MACE) and mortality following radiation therapy (RT). Methods: The medical records of patients who underwent definitive RT for non-small cell lung cancer using modern planning techniques at a single center between 2015 and 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. Cardiac events were verified by cardiologists, and mortality data were confirmed with the national registry. Cardiac substructures were autosegmented on RT planning scans for retrospective structure and dose analysis, and their correlation with clinical factors was examined. Fine-Gray models were used to analyze relationships while considering the competing risk for death. Results: Among 478 patients included in the study, 77 (16%) developed 88 MACE, with a median time to event of 16.3 months. A higher burden of pre-existing cardiac diseases was associated with an increased cumulative incidence of MACE (55% [95% CI: 12%-20%] vs 16% [95% CI: 35%-71%]; P < 0.001). Left atrial and left ventricular enlargement on RT planning scans was associated with cumulative incidence of atrial arrhythmia (14% [95% CI: 9%-20%] vs 4% [95% CI: 2%-8%]; P = 0.001) and heart failure (13% [95% CI: 8%-18%] vs 6% [95% CI: 3%-10%]; P = 0.007) at 5 years, respectively. However, myocardial infarction was not associated with the presence of coronary calcium (4.2% [95% CI: 2%-7%] vs 0% [95% CI: 0%-0%]; P = 0.094). No cardiac imaging metrics were found to be both clinically and statistically associated with survival. Conclusions: The present findings suggest that cardiac history and RT planning scan parameters may offer potential utility in prospectively evaluating cardiotoxicity risk following RT for patients with lung cancer.

Objective This study aimed to correlate the expression, by immunohistochemistry, of the proteins OPN, ABCB5, and WNT3A from anatomopathological materials obtained from paraffin blocks, slides, or both, from patients with osteosarcoma (OS), analyzing epidemiological characteristics, as well as their presence and influence on the evolution and progression of the disease. Methods After the initial case selection, we searched for the respective paraffin blocks and took only those with sufficient tumor mass to allow additional sections with no complete loss of biological material. The sarcoma area identification in representative paraffin blocks used multisample blocks (tissue microarray [TMA]) created on a BenchMark ULTRA (Roche Diagnostics Corporation, Indianapolis, IN, USA) instrument. Then, we analyzed the association between the expression of ABCB5, WNT3A, and osteopontin (OPN) markers with the variables age, location, and tissue type (Fisher exact test/Chi-squared test). Results The average age of the patients was 23 years, and the rate of males and females was the same. We analyzed 40 slides from 28 OS patients seen from 2005 to 2017. Their follow-up time was 80.0 months, and the 5-year survival rate was 46.7%. Most metastases occurred in lung tissue (92.9%). Proteins ABCB5, OPN, and WNT3A did not present statistical significance when compared with age group, neo-adjuvant, adjuvant, or both, chemotherapy, location, survival, or death. Osteopontin was negative in all samples. WNT3A expression occurred in patients who died early. Conclusion In an immunohistochemical study, ABCB5, OPN, and WNT3A did not have statistical significance. In the parameters analyzed, they did not seem to be a predictive or aggressive factor for OS.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are severe complications of pregnancy with high morbidity and are a major cause of increased maternal and infant morbidity and mortality. Currently, there is a lack of effective early diagnostic indicators and safe and effective preventive strategies for HDP in clinical practice, except for monitoring maternal blood pressure levels, the degree of proteinuria, organ involvement and fetal conditions. The intestinal microbiota consists of the gut flora and intestinal environment, which is the largest microecosystem of the human body and participates in material and energy metabolism, gene expression regulation, immunity regulation, and other functions. During pregnancy, due to changes in hormone levels and altered immune function, the intestinal microecological balance is affected, triggering HDP. A dysregulated intestinal microenvironment influences the composition and distribution of the gut flora and changes the intestinal barrier, driving beneficial or harmful bacterial metabolites and inflammatory responses to participate in the development of HDP and promote its malignant development. When the gut flora is dysbiotic and affects blood pressure, supplementation with probiotics and dietary fiber can be used to intervene. In this review, the interaction between the intestinal microbiota and HDP was investigated to explore the feasibility of the gut flora as a novel biomarker of HDP and to provide a new strategy and basis for the prevention and treatment of clinical HDP.

BACKGROUND: Given increased neoadjuvant therapy use in early-stage, hormone receptor (HR)-positive/HER2-negative breast cancer, we sought to quantify likelihood of breast-conserving surgery (BCS) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) or endocrine therapy (NET) as a function of ER%/PR%/Ki-67%, 21-gene recurrence scores (RS), or 70-gene risk groups. METHODS: We analyzed the 2010-2020 National Cancer Database. Surgery was categorized as "mastectomy/BCS." Logistic regression was performed. Adjusted odds ratios (AOR) were per 10-unit increase in ER%/PR%/Ki-67%. RESULTS: Overall, 42.3% underwent BCS after NACT, whereas 64.0% did after NET. Increasing ER% (AOR = 0.96, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.94-0.97) or PR% (AOR=0.98, 95% CI 0.96-0.99) was associated with lower odds of BCS after NACT. Increasing Ki-67% was associated with greater odds of BCS (AOR = 1.07, 95% CI 1.04-1.10). Breast-conserving surgery rates increased by ~20 percentage points, with Ki-67% ≥15 or RS >20. Patients with a low (43.0%, AOR = 0.50, 95% CI 0.29-0.88) or intermediate (46.4%, AOR = 0.58, 95% CI 0.41-0.81) RS were less likely than patients with a high RS (65.0%) to undergo BCS after NACT. Increasing ER% was associated with higher odds of BCS after NET (AOR = 1.09, 95% CI 1.01-1.17). Breast-conserving surgery rates increased by ~20 percentage points between ER <50% and >80%. In both cohorts, the odds of BCS were similar between 70-gene low-risk and high-risk groups. Asian or uninsured patients had lower odds of BCS. CONCLUSIONS: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is unlikely to downstage tumors with a low-intermediate RS, higher ER%/PR%, or lower Ki-67%. Breast-conserving surgery after NET was most dependent on ER%. Findings could facilitate treatment decision-making based on tumor biology and racial/socioeconomic disparities and improve patient counseling on the likelihood of successful BCS.

As the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and its impact on healthcare systems increase, developing tools for accurate diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression is a priority. Recent technological advancements have allowed for the development of blood-based biomarkers (BBMs) to aid in the diagnosis of AD, but many questions remain regarding the clinical implementation of these BBMs. This review outlines the historical timeline of AD BBM development. It highlights key breakthroughs that have transformed the perspective of AD BBMs from theoretically ideal but unattainable markers, to clinically valid and reliable BBMs with potential for implementation in healthcare settings. Technological advancements like single-molecule detection and mass spectrometry methods have significantly improved assay sensitivity and accuracy. High-throughput, fully automated platforms have potential for clinical use. Despite these advancements, however, significant work is needed before AD BBMs can be implemented in widespread clinical practice. Cutpoints must be established, the influence of chronic conditions and medications on BBM levels must be better understood, and guidelines must be created for healthcare providers related to interpreting and communicating information obtained from AD BBMs. Additionally, the development of BBMs for synaptic dysfunction, inflammation, and cerebrovascular disease may provide better precision medicine approaches to treating AD and related dementia. Future research and collaboration between scientists and physicians are essential to addressing these challenges and further advancing AD BBMs, with the goal of integration in clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis pathogenesis involves a large number of different immune system cells, which are both sources and targets of chemokines, that affect not only their migration but also survival, proliferation, differentiation, production of all cytokine types, degranulation, and also directly stimulating or suppressing angiogenesis. Studyingthe contribution of chemokines to this disease pathogenesis will make it possible to identify new sensitive and specific markers for its diagnosis and subsequent dynamic monitoring of treatment effectiveness. The study aimed to identify a list of the most informative diagnostic markers from a wide range of juvenile idiopathic arthritis patients' blood plasma chemokines. METHODS: The case-control study included 40 diagnosed pathology patients and 20 healthy agematched children. The content of MCP-1/CCL2, MCP-3/CCL7, MIG/CXCL9, MIP-1α/CCL3, MIP-1ß/CCL4, RANTES/CCL5, IFN-γ, IP-10/CXCL10, and MDC/CCL22 were measured by enzyme- linked immunosorbent assay in blood plasma of each person. RESULTS: The following chemokines were included in the list of the most promising diagnostic markers: MCP-1, MIP-1α, MIG, RANTES, and IFN-γ. Their blood plasma content in patients with a diagnosed pathology was from 3 to 60 times (MIG) higher than in the conditionally healthy group. Their sensitivity and specificity exceeded 90%. CONCLUSION: An increase in their content leads to active monocytes/macrophages migration to the site of inflammation, where they suppress effector T-cell activity by binding suppressor exosomes and activate B-cells by autoantigens presentation received due to joint tissue destruction. This allows us to speak about the predominance of the Th1-mediated immune response during the development of studied disease chronic inflammation.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of primary liver cancer, characterized by difficulties in early diagnosis, prone to distant metastasis, and high recurrence rates following surgery. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are a class of cell-derived particles, including exosomes, characterized by a phospholipid bilayer. They serve as effective carriers for intercellular communication cargo, including proteins and nucleic acids, and are widely involved in tumor progression. They are being explored as potential tumor biomarkers and novel therapeutic avenues. We provide a brief overview of the biogenesis and characteristics of EVs to better understand their classification standards. The focus of this review is on the research progress of EV-associated proteins in the field of HCC. EV-associated proteins are involved in tumor growth and regulation in HCC, participate in intercellular communication within the tumor microenvironment (TME), and are implicated in events including angiogenesis and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) during tumor metastasis. In addition, EV-associated proteins show promising diagnostic efficacy for HCC. For the treatment of HCC, they also demonstrate significant potential including enhancing the efficacy of tumor vaccines, and as targeting cargo anchors. Facing current challenges, we propose the future directions of research in this field. Above all, research on EV-associated proteins offers the potential to enhance our comprehension of HCC and offer novel insights for developing new treatment strategies.

Microorganisms inhabiting gypsum have been observed in environments that differ greatly in water availability. Gypsum colonized by microorganisms, including cyanobacteria, eukaryotic algae, and diverse heterotrophic communities, occurs in hot, arid or even hyperarid environments, in cold environments of the Antarctic and Arctic zones, and in saline and hypersaline lakes and ponds where gypsum precipitates. Fossilized microbial remnants preserved in gypsum were also reported. Gypsum protects the endolithic microbial communities against excessive insolation and ultraviolet radiation, while allowing photosynthetically active radiation to penetrate through the mineral substrate. We here review the worldwide occurrences of microbially colonized gypsum and the specific properties of gypsum related to its function as a substrate and habitat for microbial life on Earth and possibly beyond. Methods for detecting and characterizing endolithic communities and their biomarkers in gypsum are discussed, including microscopic, spectroscopic, chemical, and molecular biological techniques. The modes of adaptation of different microorganisms to life within gypsum crystals under different environmental conditions are described. Finally, we discuss gypsum deposits as possible targets for the search for microbial life or its remnants beyond Earth, especially on Mars, where sulfate-rich deposits occur, and propose strategies to detect them during space exploration missions.

Specific protein 1 (Sp1) is central to regulating transcription factor activity and cell signaling pathways. Sp1 is highly associated with the poor prognosis of various cancers; it is considered a non-oncogene addiction gene. The function of Sp1 is complex and contributes to regulating extensive transcriptional activity, apart from maintaining basal transcription. Sp1 activity and stability are affected by post-translational modifications (PTMs), including phosphorylation, ubiquitination, acetylation, glycosylation, and SUMOylation. These modifications help to determine genetic programs that alter the Sp1 structure in different cells and increase or decrease its transcriptional activity and DNA binding stability in response to pathophysiological stimuli. Investigating the PTMs of Sp1 will contribute to a deeper understanding of the mechanism underlying the cell signaling pathway regulating Sp1 stability and the regulatory mechanism by which Sp1 affects cancer progression. Furthermore, it will facilitate the development of new drug targets and biomarkers, thereby elucidating considerable implications in the prevention and treatment of cancer.

Background and Hypothesis: This umbrella review aims to comprehensively synthesize the evidence of association between peripheral, electrophysiological, neuroimaging, neuropathological, and other biomarkers and diagnosis of psychotic disorders. Study Design: We selected systematic reviews and meta-analyses of observational studies on diagnostic biomarkers for psychotic disorders, published until February 1, 2018. Data extraction was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Evidence of association between biomarkers and psychotic disorders was classified as convincing, highly suggestive, suggestive, weak, or non-significant, using a standardized classification. Quality analyses used the Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR) tool. Study Results: The umbrella review included 110 meta-analyses or systematic reviews corresponding to 3892 individual studies, 1478 biomarkers, and 392 210 participants. No factor showed a convincing level of evidence. Highly suggestive evidence was observed for transglutaminase autoantibodies levels (odds ratio [OR] = 7.32; 95% CI: 3.36, 15.94), mismatch negativity in auditory event-related potentials (standardized mean difference [SMD] = 0.73; 95% CI: 0.5, 0.96), P300 component latency (SMD = -0.6; 95% CI: -0.83, -0.38), ventricle-brain ratio (SMD = 0.61; 95% CI: 0.5, 0.71), and minor physical anomalies (SMD = 0.99; 95% CI: 0.64, 1.34). Suggestive evidence was observed for folate, malondialdehyde, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, homocysteine, P50 sensory gating (P50 S2/S1 ratio), frontal N-acetyl-aspartate, and high-frequency heart rate variability. Among the remaining biomarkers, weak evidence was found for 626 and a non-significant association for 833 factors. Conclusions: While several biomarkers present highly suggestive or suggestive evidence of association with psychotic disorders, methodological biases, and underpowered studies call for future higher-quality research.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a highly aggressive cancer with a poor prognosis. The molecular mechanisms underlying its development remain unclear. Recent studies have highlighted the crucial role of RNA modifications in HCC progression, which indicates their potential as therapeutic targets and biomarkers for managing HCC. In this review, we discuss the functional role and molecular mechanisms of RNA modifications in HCC through a review and summary of relevant literature, to explore the potential therapeutic agents and biomarkers for diagnostic and prognostic of HCC. This review indicates that specific RNA modification pathways, such as N6-methyladenosine, 5-methylcytosine, N7-methylguanosine, and N1-methyladenosine, are erroneously regulated and are involved in the proliferation, autophagy, innate immunity, invasion, metastasis, immune cell infiltration, and drug resistance of HCC. These findings provide a new perspective for understanding the molecular mechanisms of HCC, as well as potential targets for the diagnosis and treatment of HCC by targeting specific RNA-modifying enzymes or recognition proteins. More than ten RNA-modifying regulators showed the potential for use for the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment decision utility biomarkers of HCC. Their application value for HCC biomarkers necessitates extensive multi-center sample validation in the future. A growing number of RNA modifier inhibitors are being developed, but the lack of preclinical experiments and clinical studies targeting RNA modification in HCC poses a significant obstacle, and further research is needed to evaluate their application value in HCC treatment. In conclusion, this review provides an in-depth understanding of the complex interplay between RNA modifications and HCC while emphasizing the promising potential of RNA modifications as therapeutic targets and biomarkers for managing HCC.
