RESUMO

Synovial sarcoma is a rare type of soft tissue sarcoma that typically arises in the lower extremities and rarely in the upper extremities. Here, we present an unusual case of a middle-aged man who complained of dyspnea, dry cough, and chest pain and was found to have a mass-like lesion on the ulnar side of his left wrist during physical examination. The patient also exhibited gynecomastia and had elevated ß-human chorionic gonadotropin (ßHCG) levels. Subsequent imaging and histopathological analysis of the wrist mass confirmed the diagnosis of synovial sarcoma with disseminated lung metastasis. This article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the clinical and pathological characteristics of synovial sarcoma, highlight the importance of considering synovial sarcoma as a differential diagnosis in patients with abnormal hormonal assays, and emphasize the need for clinicians to be vigilant about any pathologic lesions existing on the upper extremity to avoid late diagnosis and the development of advanced cancerous diseases.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate clinical factors prior to methotrexate (MTX) treatment for tubal ectopic pregnancy and to apply the data to a prediction model for treatment success. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted during 2014-2022. Of the 808 patients with a tubal ectopic pregnancy, 372 with a ß-hCG level less than 5000 IU/L were treated with a single dose of MTX and were included in this study. Pretreatment factors, including patient characteristics, initial ß-hCG level, and sonographic parameters, were compared between those who achieved complete resolution and those who needed additional MTX or surgical intervention. A logistic regression model and multivariable analysis were used to predict success. A graphic nomogram was generated to represent the model. RESULTS: Complete resolution of the ectopic pregnancy was achieved in 290 (77.9%) patients after a single dose of MTX. A second dose or surgical intervention was required for 82 (22.0%): 49 (13.2%) received a second dose of MTX and 33 (8.9%) underwent laparoscopic salpingectomy. In the MTX Success group compared to the MTX Failure group, the median ß-hCG levels were lower (746 vs 1347 IU/L, P < 0.001) and the presence of a yolk sac and a fetal pole were less frequent. The predictive model, based on significant variables, includes initial ß-hCG concentration and the visibility of a yolk sac or fetal pole. Analysis with cross-validation techniques revealed that the model was both accurate and discriminative. CONCLUSION: A predictive nomogram was developed to predict the success of single-dose MTX treatment for tubal ectopic pregnancy.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the association between the concentration of maternal serum biomarkers and the risk of fetal carrying chromosome copy number variants (CNVs). METHODS: Pregnant women identified as high risk in the second-trimester serological triple screening and underwent traditional amniotic fluid karyotype analysis, along with comparative genomic hybridization array (aCGH)/copy number variation sequencing (CNV-seq), were included in the study. We divided the concentration of serum biomarkers, free beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (fß-hCG), alpha fetoprotein (AFP) and unconjugated estriol (uE3), into three levels: abnormally low, normal and abnormally high. The prevalence of abnormally low, normal and abnormally high serum fß-hCG, AFP and uE3 levels in pregnant women with aberrant aCGH/CNV-seq results and normal controls was calculated. RESULTS: Among the 2877 cases with high risk in the second-trimester serological triple screening, there were 98 chromosome abnormalities revealed by karyotype analysis, while 209 abnormalities were detected by aCGH/CNVseq (P<0.001) . The carrying rate of aberrant CNVs increased significantly when the maternal serum uE3 level was less than 0.4 multiple of median (MoM) of corresponding gestational weeks compared to normal controls, while the carrying rate of aberrant CNVs decreased significantly when the maternal serum fß-hCG level was greater than 2.5 MoM compared to normal controls. No significant difference was found in the AFP group. CONCLUSION: Low serum uE3 level (<0.4 MoM) was associated with an increased risk of aberrant CNVs.

The detection of pregnancy is common among those who participate in the care of reproductive-age females. This is especially true in the medical care of active-duty personnel in the armed forces. Considering the impact of a positive urine pregnancy test in this population, it is important to recognize the possibility of false-positive results and their causes. In this case, we explore a false-positive urine pregnancy test due to injectable positive beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (beta-hCG) supplementation used for weight loss. This report concludes that the use of exogenous beta-hCG by physicians and other clinicians should be avoided. Additionally, clinicians should be aware of its use in the community and its possible effect on laboratory testing used to evaluate for pregnancy.

INTRODUCTION: Paraneoplastic hyperthyroidism (PH) has been reported in patients with testicular germ cell tumors (GCTs), sporadically. This disorder is caused by extremely elevated serum levels of beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (bHCG). To date, little is known about the prevalence of PH, and its clinical features are poorly understood. The aim of the present study was to analyze the relative frequency and clinical features of PH in GCTs and evaluate their effects on therapeutic outcomes. METHODS: A cohort of 438 patients treated for testicular GCT from 2017 to 2023 was retrospectively analyzed for histology, age, clinical stage, and presence of PH. The clinical features of the patients with PH were evaluated descriptively. The relative frequency of PH was compared among the subgroups using descriptive statistical methods. RESULTS: Three patients with PH were identified; all had clinical symptoms of hyperthyroidism, suppressed serum levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), and increased levels of tri-iodothyronin (fT3). All the patients had advanced, metastasized, and non-seminomatous GCTs. Serum bHCG levels ranged from 225,00 U/L to 1,520,000 U/L. The prevalence of PH was 0.7% in the entire GCT population and 60% in those with very high bHCG serum levels. All the patients received standard cisplatin-based chemotherapy along with thyrostatic treatment. The clinical symptoms of the hyperthyroidism rapidly disappeared. TSH levels normalized with decreasing bHCG levels. The PH treatment did not affect the therapeutic outcomes of the patients. CONCLUSION: PH may occur in 0.7% of all patients with GCT but may be present in up to 60% of patients with very high levels of bHCG. Measuring serum levels of TSH and fT3 should be performed in addition to routine diagnostic measures in all patients with poor prognosis GCTs. Thyrostatic medication is recommended for patients with the clinical symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Early recognition of hyperthyroidism and prompt intervention will reduce comorbidity and help optimize therapeutic outcomes.

Lung cancer is the most common neoplastic disorder associated with paraneoplastic syndromes. The most common paraneoplastic syndromes are the syndrome of inappropriate release of antidiuretic hormone (SIADH), hypercalcemia of malignancy, ectopic Cushing's syndrome, and various other neurological syndromes. A few case reports have reported gynecomastia as a paraneoplastic syndrome. Recognition of this uncommon presentation can aid in the early detection of associated malignancies, thus potentially improving outcomes. In this article, we are presenting the case of a male patient in his late sixties who, on presentation, had gynecomastia and was eventually diagnosed with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

BACKGROUND: In previous studies, patients with intracranial germ cell tumour (iGCT) with pure choriocarcinoma or mixed germ cell tumours with choriocarcinoma element showed similar dismal prognoses, with median overall survival (OS) of 22 months and 1-year survival rate of approximately 60%. However, these conclusions need to be updated because radiotherapy, which is the mainstay for this disease, was not applied in a number of patients. Additionally, prognostic factors need to be explored in this population. METHODS: Clinical data of patients with iGCTs with histologically confirmed choriocarcinoma element or beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (ß-HCG) > 500 IU/L were collected from the archives of our institution and retrospectively studied. RESULTS: A total of 76 patients were eligible for this study. Except for two early deaths, all patients received radiotherapy (craniospinal irradiation [CSI], n = 23; non-CSI, n = 51). The median follow-up duration for the entire series was 63 months (range, 6-188 months). The 5-year event-free survival (EFS) and OS rates were 81.5% and 84.1%, respectively. Among patients who did not have early death or progressive disease after induction chemotherapy, multivariate analysis revealed that chemotherapy cycles (> 4 vs. ≤ 4) (hazard ratio [HR] for EFS 0.144, p = 0.020; HR for OS 0.111, p = 0.028) and ß-HCG levels (> 3000 IU/L vs. ≤ 3000 IU/L) (HR for EFS 4.342, p = 0.059; HR for OS 6.614, p = 0.033) were independent factors for survival. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with iGCTs with choriocarcinoma element or ß-HCG > 500 IU/L showed improved survival with radiotherapy-based treatments. Additional chemotherapy cycles could result in additional survival benefits. Patients with ß-HCG level > 3000 IU/L had poorer prognosis.

Background@#During postmolar evacuation surveillance, beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) regression levels can predict invasive disease while Doppler ultrasound can assess in vivo tumor neovascularization and quantify uterine blood supply. As an ancillary tool to β-hCG monitoring, ultrasound can detect the early presence of viable trophoblastic tissues and identify patients at risk of developing postmolar gestational trophoblastic Neoplasia (PMGTN). @*Objective@#The objective of this study was to correlate uterine artery Doppler ultrasound with β-hCG levels during pre- and postmolar evacuation surveillance among patients with complete mole.@*Materials and Methods@#A cohort of patients with sonographic diagnosis of complete hydatidiform mole and managed with suction curettage in the same institution were prospectively followed up after evacuation. The pre- and postmolar evacuation surveillance period was at days 1, 7, 14, 21, 28, and 35. Monitoring of serum β-hCG levels was based on the standard regression curve. For Doppler ultrasound parameters, monitoring of the systolic/diastolic (S/D) ratio, pulsatility index (PI), resistance index (RI), and peak systolic velocity (PSV) was based on its relationship with its serum β-hCG levels. The ultrasound images generated were archived and reviewed by the authors. Descriptive and inferential statistics were utilized to analyze median differences. For the correlation of uterine artery Doppler flow parameters, analysis for the test of difference used Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression analysis for the odds ratio.@*Results@#Sixteen of the 23 enrolled patients completed the protocol (16 of 23, 69.50%). A majority had spontaneous remission (13; 81%) while 3 cases (19%) presented increasing and plateauing β-hCG levels. The pre- and post evacuation median β-hCG levels showed a significant decrease (P = 0.001). As post evacuation β-hCG levels decreased, PSV also decreased (r = 0.478, P = 0.061) while Doppler parameters, RI, PI, and S/D ratio increased. However, when post evacuation β-hCG levels rose or plateaued, Doppler parameters decreased. These changes had statistical correlation (all P < 0.05). Moreover, the magnitude of the relationship for β-hCG and Doppler parameters was moderate and ranged from 0.524 to 0.581. Among the Doppler parameters, the S/D ratio and RI of the right uterine artery strongly predicted a rise in β-hCG levels. The odds ratio of predicting increased β-hCG levels and risk of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia by the right S/D ratio were − 2683.67 (confidence interval [CI] = −271.692–5095.655; P = 0.034) and by the right RI − 66,193.34 (CI = −161,818.107–29,431.433; P = 0.046). Notably, Doppler parameter changes appeared early at day 14 up to day 35 and before the appearance of abnormal β-hCG regression patterns.@*Conclusion@#There is a strong correlation between uterine artery Doppler flow changes and β-hCG levels during postmolar evacuation surveillance. The inverse relationship of the S/D ratio, PI and RI, and β-hCG regression patterns confirms spontaneous remission of the disease. For patients with abnormal β-hCG patterns, this relationship is altered. The Doppler changes become erratic, unpredictable, and significantly decreased. These changes were detected as early as 2 weeks post evacuation. Thus, the use of ultrasound as an adjunct to β-hCG post evacuation surveillance can predict abnormal β-hCG regression patterns and identify patients at risk of developing postmolar gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (PMGTN).

As previously demonstrated, serum beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (ß-hCG) is linked to identifying early gestational abnormalities. This research was aimed at investigating the correlation between serum ß-hCG levels and thyroid metabolic function in pregnant women with hyperemesis gravidarum (HG). Ninety-one pregnant women with HG were selected as the study group and divided into early pregnancy (EP), mid-pregnancy (MP), and late pregnancy (LP) groups according to their gestational weeks, while 84 normal pregnant women were selected as the control group. Venous blood was collected from pregnant women in both groups and serum ß-hCG levels were measured by chemiluminescent immunoassay. The levels of free thyroxine (FT4), free triiodothyronine (FT3), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor antibody (TRAb), and thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb) were tested by chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay. Visual analog scale (VAS) scores were utilized to assess the degree of HG. Pearson analysis was implemented to measure the correlations between serum ß-hCG levels and serum FT3, FT4, TSH, TPOAb, TRAb, TgAb, as well as VAS scores and the correlations between ß-hCG, FT3, FT4, TSH, TPOAb, TRAb, TgAb, as well as VAS scores and gestation period. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was plotted to analyze the diagnostic values of thyroid hormones, thyroid-related antibodies, and ß-hCG levels for HG. Versus those in the control group, ß-hCG, FT3, FT4, TPOAb, TRAb, TgAb levels, and VAS scores were higher and TSH levels were lower in the study group. Versus those in the EP group, ß-hCG, FT3, FT4, TPOAb, TRAb, TgAb levels, and VAS scores of pregnant women in the MP and LP groups were decreased, and TSH levels were increased. Serum ß-hCG levels of pregnant women with HG were positively correlated with FT3, FT4, TPOAb, TRAb, TgAb, and VAS scores and negatively correlated with TSH levels. Serum ß-hCG, FT3, FT4, TPOAb, TRAb, TgAb levels, and VAS scores of pregnant women with HG had a negative correlation with the gestation period, while TSH levels had a positive correlation with the gestation period. The ROC curve analysis showed that ß-hCG and thyroid function-related indicators were of high clinical values in the diagnosis of HG. Collectively, our article suggests that serum ß-hCG expression of pregnant women with HG is abnormally elevated and closely related to the degree of HG and hyperthyroidism. In addition, ß-hCG and thyroid function-related indicators have certain diagnostic efficacy for HG.

Background: The effect of estrogen and beta-human chorionic gonadotropin on micropapillary thyroid carcinoma (mPTC) is not defined. Pregnancy and menopause could represent critical moments during active surveillance (AS) for women with mPTC. Objective: To evaluate the effect of either pregnancy or menopause on growth of mPTCs on AS. Patients and Methods: Women with mPTC on AS who became pregnant or underwent menopause during AS were evaluated in this retrospective observational study. The primary outcome was disease progression according to the AS protocol. The secondary outcome was the shrinkage of mPTCs. We compared the menopause group of patients with 2 unmatched control groups: (1) the pre-menopause group of patients on AS who had not experienced menopause yet and (2) the post-menopause group of patients who started AS while already in menopause. Results: Five patients who became pregnant and 9 who underwent menopause during AS were enrolled. No patient from either group had a disease progression, and all pregnant patients showed stable disease after pregnancy. Four patients of the menopause group (44%) experienced mPTC shrinkage. The percentage of patients with mPTC shrinkage was significantly higher in the menopause group than in the 2 control groups. Conclusions: mPTC AS appears to be safe and feasible in patients who become pregnant or undergo menopause during surveillance. Our data suggest a possible association between menopause and mPTC shrinkage during AS.

Choriocarcinoma is a highly aggressive, malignant tumor that arises from trophoblastic cells. Although choriocarcinomas usually arise in the genital organs, they can also originate in extragenital organs, but gastrointestinal tract lesions are rare. Gastrointestinal choriocarcinoma can be primary or metastatic. Most primary gastrointestinal choriocarcinomas are associated with adenocarcinomas. We report a case of jejunal choriocarcinoma presenting with acute abdominal pain and intestinal bleeding. The patient had a very high serum beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (ß-HCG) level with an isolated jejunal lesion on contrast-enhanced computed tomography of the abdomen and pelvis. The patient underwent emergency surgical resection of the jejunal lesion with good recovery. The histopathological analysis of the resected specimen confirmed the diagnosis of choriocarcinoma. However, the patient suffered from life-threatening rebleeding one month after surgery and succumbed to her illness.

The use of race in maternal serum screening is problematic because race is a social construct rather than a distinct biological classifier. Nevertheless, laboratories offering this testing are encouraged to use race-specific cutoff values for maternal serum screening biomarkers to determine the risk of fetal abnormalities. Large cohort studies examining racial differences in maternal serum screening biomarker concentrations have yielded conflicting results, which we postulate may be explained by genetic and socioeconomic differences between racial cohorts in different studies. We recommend that the use of race in maternal serum screening should be abandoned. Further research is needed to identify socioeconomic and environmental factors that contribute to differences in maternal serum screening biomarker concentrations observed between races. A better understanding of these factors may facilitate accurate race-agnostic risk estimates for aneuploidy and neural tube defects.

OBJECTIVE: This study assessed the relevance of reductions in beta-hCG levels between days 0 and 4 and between days 0 and 7 after single-dose methotrexate therapy, and the success of the therapy. STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective cohort study of 276 women diagnosed with ectopic pregnancy who received methotrexate as first-line treatment. Demographics, sonographic findings and beta-hCG levels and indexes were compared between women with successful and failed treatment outcomes. RESULTS: The median beta-hCG levels were lower in the success than the failure group on days 0, 4 and 7: 385 (26-9134) vs. 1381 (28-6475), 329 (5-6909) vs. 1680 (32-6496) and 232 (1-4876) vs. 1563 (33-6368), respectively, P < 0.001 for all. The best cut-off for the change in beta-hCG level from day 0 to 4 was a 19% decrease; the sensitivity was 77.0% and specificity 60.0%, positive predictive value (PPV) was 85% CI 95 [78.7.1%-89.9%]. The best cut-off for the change in beta-hCG level from day 0 to 7 was a 10% decrease; the sensitivity was 80.1% and specificity 70.8%, PPV was 90.5% CI 95 [85.1%-94.5%]. CONCLUSIONS: A decrease of 10% in beta-hCG between days 0 and 7 and 19% between days 0 and 4 can be used as a predictor of treatment success in specific cases.

The tumour markers alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), beta human chorionic gonadotropin (ßHCG), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) have established roles in the management and follow-up of testicular cancer. While a tumour marker rise can serve as an indicator of relapse, the frequency of false-positive marker events has not been studied systematically in larger cohorts. We assessed the validity of serum tumour markers for the detection of relapse in the Swiss Austrian German Testicular Cancer Cohort Study (SAG TCCS). This registry was set up to answer questions on the diagnostic performance and impact of imaging and laboratory tests in the management of testicular cancer, and has included 948 patients between January 2014 and July 2021.A total of 793 patients with a median follow-up of 29.0 mo were included. In total, 71 patients (8.9%) had a proven relapse, which was marker positive in 31 patients (43.6%). Of all patients, 124 (15.6%) had an event of a false-positive marker elevation. The positive predictive value (PPV) of the markers was limited, highest for ßHCG (33.8%) and lowest for LDH (9.4%). PPV tended to increase with higher levels of elevation. These findings underline the limited accuracy of the conventional tumour markers to indicate or rule out a relapse. Especially, LDH as part of routine follow-up should be questioned. Patient summary: With the diagnosis of testicular cancer, the three tumour markers alpha-fetoprotein, beta human chorionic gonadotropin, and lactate dehydrogenase are routinely measured during follow-up to monitor for relapse. We demonstrate that these markers are often falsely elevated, and, by contrast, many patients do not have marker elevations despite a relapse. The results of this study can lead to improved use of these tumour markers during follow-up of testis cancer patients.

We report a rare case of urothelial carcinoma (UC) of the renal pelvis with trophoblastic differentiation that occurred in a 55-year-old male patient. The patient presented with gross hematuria and paroxysmal lumbago pain 5 months ago. The enhanced computed tomography (CT) scan demonstrated a large space occupying lesion in the left kidney and multiple retroperitoneal lymph node enlargements. Histologically, high-grade infiltrating urothelial carcinoma (HGUC) contained giant cells which were positive for beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (ß-hCG). Three weeks after resection, positron emission tomography and computed tomography (PET-CT) scan showed multiple nodules of metastasis in the left renal region, extensive systemic muscle, bone, lymph node, liver and bilateral lung metastases. The patient underwent bladder perfusion chemotherapy and gemcitabine combined with cisplatin chemotherapy regimens. This is the eighth documented case of UC of the renal pelvis with trophoblastic differentiation. Due to its rarity and extremely poor prognosis, it is important to clarify the characteristics of the disease and make an accurate and prompt diagnosis.

Ectopic pregnancy, a rare complication involving embryo nidation outside the uterus, significantly impacts women's lives worldwide. About 95% of ectopic pregnancies occur in the Fallopian tubes. If not diagnosed early, the patient may suffer from tubal rupture, resulting in hemorrhage and lethal consequences. Transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS) is typically used to diagnose an ectopic pregnancy. However, over the last decade, monitoring beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (ß-hCG) levels in ectopic pregnancy have evolved to detect ectopic pregnancy. But there are inconsistencies in its utility in monitoring or diagnosing ectopic pregnancy in clinical practice. This systematic review highlights the potential of monitoring ß-hCG levels to accurately diagnose ectopic pregnancy. Furthermore, it showcases if ß-hCG levels can determine effective treatment options to successfully resolve an ectopic pregnancy. We performed a literature search between January 2022 through December 2022 following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The clinical evidence demonstrated that monitoring ß-hCG levels, combined with TVUS, accurately diagnosed an ectopic pregnancy. Moreover, pre-treatment ß-hCG levels higher than 5000 international units per liter (IU/L), statistically significant, indicated surgical management for a successful resolution of an ectopic pregnancy. Whereas lower ß-hCG levels showed successful management through expectant and methotrexate treatment. Interestingly, patients who failed non-surgical treatment developed increased ß-hCG levels and required surgical intervention. However, there was conflicting evidence on whether ß-hCG levels could indicate tubal rupture. Nevertheless, as highlighted in this review, monitoring ß-hCG levels could be crucial in the early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy. Besides, it might significantly aid in monitoring and deciding on effective treatment options for patients with ectopic pregnancy, which could be vital to saving their lives and preserving fertility.

Objective@#Despite the widespread use and measurement of beta‑human chorionic gonadotropin (β‑HCG) among hydatidiform mole (HM) patients, models derived from this biomarker to predict the remission or postmolar gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) rarely perform well. The study aimed to generate cutoff points for postevacuation β‑HCG levels and evaluate their performance among women with complete molar pregnancies@*Methods@#A retrospective cohort study composed of women with complete HM underwent bivariate procedures comparing characteristics between the comparison groups. Cut points using Liu’s and Youden’s indices were estimated, and their performance was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. Cox regression to compare time‑to‑progression across these proposed β‑HCG cutoffs was also performed.@*Results@#The incidence of postmolar GTN among the 155 women in the study was 15.5% (95% confidence interval: 10.2%–22.2%). Postevacuation HCG levels had a better prediction of disease status than preevacuation and HCG ratio models (χ2 : 163.07, P < 0.01). A cutoff at 508 mIU/mL the 3rd‑week postevacuation (area under the curve [AUC]: 0.89, sensitivity: 87.5%, specificity: 90.1%) was comparable with the 185 mIU/mL cutoff at the 5th‑week postevacuation (AUC: 0.89, sensitivity: 91.7%, specificity: 87%). The hazards ratio of postmolar GTN was 29.74 (8.53–103.71) and 39.89 (8.82–180.38) for the 3rd and 5th weeks HCG after evacuation adjusting for clinically relevant variables@*Conclusion@#The first 3rd‑ and 5th‑week postevacuation levels of β‑HCG demonstrated potential in predicting postmolar GTN. However, further refinement and adjustment for clinically relevant risk factors are still needed.

Background@#Gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) presents as vascular mass of varying morphology on ultrasound and confirmed through quantitative serum β subunit human chorionic gonadotrophin (β‑hCG). In regions with limited access to β‑hCG, ultrasound plays a crucial role in the initial diagnosis for timely management.@*Objectives@#This study aimed to investigate the associations between ultrasound vascular morphologic features, serum β‑hCG levels, and histopathology in GTN cases.@*Methodology@#A cross‑sectional review was conducted on 113 cases with ultrasound impression of GTN over an 8‑year period. The patient data were extracted from case records, and ultrasound images were categorized based on the distinct features. Associations with β‑hCG levels and histopathology were analyzed using the Chi‑square test and Mann–Whitney U‑test. Statistical significance was set at P < 0.05.@*Results@#A significant association was observed between ultrasound category and serum β‑hCG (P < 0.0001). The compact and diffuse types were more prevalent with β‑hCG levels between 104 to <105 mIU/mL, while the lacunar type was common among patients with ≥105 mIU/mL. However, there was no significant association between ultrasound categories and mean β‑hCG levels. Regarding histopathology, the lacunar type was more common in invasive moles, whereas the compact and diffuse types tended to be seen with choriocarcinoma, although these were not statistically significant (P = 0.182).@*Conclusions@#Morphologic types of GTN by gray scale and Doppler ultrasound vary across the different levels of serum β‑hCG and may suggest the histopathological diagnosis. This study provides valuable insights into the ultrasonographic characteristics of GTN, which can aid in its diagnosis and management.
