RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Acupuncture has gained increasing international attention in recent decades. The act of incorporating acupuncture treatment into the routine treatment of COVID-19 in China drove us to review the 100 most influential articles of the last 20 years to learn about the current status and trends of acupuncture. METHOD: Articles related to acupuncture from January 1, 2001, to July 4, 2022, were searched in the Clarivate Analytics Web of Science Core Collection database. The top 100 most cited publications were selected, and information was extracted. Software such as VOSviewer, GraphPad Prism, Scimago Graphica, and CiteSpace were used to visualize and analyze the extracted data. RESULT: The 100 most cited articles were identified, with an average of 218 citations (range: 131-625). The majority of the top 100 articles were from the USA (n = 53). The institution that published the most highly cited papers was Harvard University (n = 16). The most influential team was Klaus Linde's group. Pain was the top-ranked journal in terms of the number of publications. The largest clusters for co-occurrence keyword analysis focused on acupuncture and electroacupuncture analgesia and brain imaging responses to acupuncture stimulation via functional MRI. The two highest strength burst keywords were "randomized controlled trials" and "osteoarthritis," with "randomized controlled trials" being a consistent burst keyword from 2011 to the present. CONCLUSION: This study provides insight into articles of historical significance in the field of acupuncture through bibliometric analysis. These data should provide clinicians and researchers with insight into future directions related to acupuncture.HintergrundDie Akupunktur hat in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten zunehmend die internationale Aufmerksamkeit auf sich gezogen. RESUMO

PURPOSE: Despite the feminization of the medical profession, the academic world remains largely male-dominated. Several studies conducted in the English-speaking world have shown that women are published less than men. Our goal is to define the evolution of the role of women in five French medical journals. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The articles from five French journals (Revue du Praticien, Bulletin du Cancer, Exercer, Presse Médicale, Cancer/Radiothérapie) published in February between 1983 and 2019 were included. We selected twelve years from that period of time. The analysis was completed using Cochran-Armitage tests with a significance level of<0,05. Among the authors, 4397 were included in total and we were able to determine the gender of 4309 of them. RESULTS: The percentage of female authors went from 16% in 1983 to 36.4% in 2019 (p<0.001). This rise is more significant for those specializing in surgery than for those specializing in medicine, with a percentage going from 14% to 38.5% (p<0.001) against 16.8% to 35.4% (p<0.001) respectively. In 2019, women still only represent 30.2% of the last authors, 27.6% of editorial authors and 30.6% of corresponding authors. CONCLUSION: Our study underlines a significant increase in the number of female authors and highlights that their position as authors remains on the margins of the most prestigious authorial positions. While we can celebrate this increase, we nevertheless notice that there are fewer female authors than female practitioners.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To study the quantitative evolution of research in suicidology in France for 30 years. METHODS: Analysis of the Web of Science database; identification of publications between 1989 and 2018 with at least one author with an affiliation in France and focusing on suicidal behavior and self-inflicted acts. RESULTS: In total, 1188 publications were identified. Over 30 years, the number of publications has been multiplied by 8.8 (particularly since 2005), a growth higher than those published in psychiatry and science in France, and in suicidology worldwide. France has contributed 3.3% of global publications since 2014 (ranks 8th in the world, recently outnumbered by South Korea and China) and 10.6% of European publications (ranks 3rd after the United Kingdom and Germany). The number of international co-publications has risen sharply over the last 30 years (44.9% between 2014 and 2018), notably with the USA, Canada and Spain. Use of English has increased from 37 to 78% of publications. Inserm, and the Universities and Academic hospitals of Paris and Montpellier are among the first institutions in terms of number of publications. Twenty-one of the 30 most published authors are men. The mention of the origin of the financing of the publications is increasing but remains limited. CONCLUSION: Suicidology has been a dynamic field of research in France for the last fifteen years, with a growing international visibility, but there is also room for improvement. An effort remains to be made to improve women's place in these publications.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND.: The use of bibliometrics to evaluate the quality and impact of refereed journals has increased along with access to electronic databases and citation counts. PURPOSE.: This analysis compared and contrasted the range of publication metrics available for English-language occupational therapy journals. METHOD.: Bibliometric data were sourced for 23 English-language occupational therapy journals, including data from the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) 2- and 5-year impact factor, JCR Immediacy Index, Eigenfactor Score, Article Influence Score, Scopus Source Normalized Impact per Paper, SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) score, and ResearchGate journal impact score. H-indexes for journals were also sourced. FINDINGS.: The American Journal of Occupational Therapy had the highest publication metrics. SJR-based scores included a larger number of journals, whereas JCR-based metrics were more restrictive in the number of journals included. IMPLICATIONS.: Multiple metrics should be used to comprehensively understand occupational therapy journal performance.

RESUMO

Bibliometrics are methods used to quantitatively analyze the scientific literature. The application of bibliometrics in neurosurgery is emerging and has not yet been studied in the French neurosurgical community. In France, the most used statistical method is named SIGAPS; the scores are based on the position of the author and the impact factor of the journal. The SIGAPS score, which can be calculated for a research team or an individual, impacts the public financial support of university hospitals in France. We analyzed retrospectively the publication productivity and the SIGAPS score of university neurosurgery departments in France for the period 2009-2016. This was supplemented by a list of current academic research protocols granted by the Minister of Health. The SIGAPS score is higher in large university hospitals even though all teams are dedicated to publishing more in the traditional neurosurgery journals (Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery, World Neurosurgery, J Neuro-oncology, Neuro oncology, Eur Spine J). Of note, the national Neurochirurgie journal (publishing in French and English) is progressively improving its impact factor (0.8). The most common themes are functional neurosurgery, neuro-oncology and spine. There are 14 on-going national multicenter research programs, 4 of them focused on the health economics of treatment innovations. These data provide the most accurate available snapshot of the scholarly efforts of all the French university neurosurgery departments. It is based on a national statistics method (SIGAPS). For future evaluation, it should be combined with internationally available parameters such as the h-index and m-quotient. Publication productivity has broad implications for the success of both academic departments and individual faculty members and their financial support.

RESUMO

There are several indicators to evaluate the impact of the scientific publication in pharmacy. Given their number, complexity, heterogeneity, strengths and weaknesses, we believe that pharmacists are not sufficiently familiar with these indicators. The main objective is to present an inventory of available indicator to measure the research impact. PubMed, GoogleScholar and Google were interviewed in October 2017 from the following terms: bibliométrique/bibliometrics, facteur d'impact/impact factor, impact de citations/citation impact, revue/journal, chercheur/researcher, article, indicateur/indicator, score. For each identified indicator, the following variables were extracted: name, calculation method, calculation time window, data sources considered, access conditions, inclusion of self-citation, strengths and weaknesses. A total of 15 indicators were included: seven for journals, four for researchers and four for articles. Among them two are non-bibliometric indicators: the Altmetric attention score, the RGscore and one other indicator deriving from the impact factor: the SIGAPS indicator developed to finance the research activity of French hospitals. Of the 12 bibliometric indicators, nine include self-citation. All involve forces (e.g. exclusion of editorials, letters, free access) and weaknesses (e.g. self-citations included, time window too short, disciplinary indistinction). There is no indicator with no weaknesses and pharmacists should be able to understand their strengths and weaknesses.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Evaluate the level of knowledge and perceptions of French and Quebec hospital's pharmacists/residents about bibliometrics indicators applied in pharmacy. Identify the determinants associated with this knowledge. METHODS: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study. An anonymous questionnaire of 17 questions answers was developed. The questionnaire was published on the SurveyMonkey site (www.SurveyMonkey.com, SurveyMonkey, Portland, OR, USA) and released from March 19 to April 9, 2018. We calculated and compared the proportion of respondents in Quebec and France by using a Chi2 test. A value less than 0.05 is considered statistically significant. RESULTS: A total of 899 pharmacists (646 in Quebec and 253 in France) and 147 residents (70 in Quebec and 77 in France) were contacted by email. The survey was completed by 401 respondents, e.g., 301 in Quebec (participation rate: 42%) and 100 in France (30%). Overall 26% (106/401) of respondents (67/301 in Quebec vs. 39/100 in France) reported having knowledge or good knowledge of those indicators. These data are corroborated by many other results. CONCLUSIONS: Small proportions are aware of those indicators. A good knowledge is associated with being a French pharmacist, working in a teaching hospital or university, having a professional experience of 10 years or more, be involved in a research project, having a scientific watch or having an online profile on database. It appears necessary to inform pharmacists and residents on notoriety indicators.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major cause of death worldwide, and fruitful research is needed for future advances in this field. AIMS: To analyse the scientific production and vitality of French cardiovascular clinical research, and its evolution over the last decade. METHODS: We first used Lab Times online data obtained through the Web of Science (Thomson-Reuters, Toronto, ON, Canada), then the PubMed database (National Center for Biotechnology Information [NCBI], Bethesda, MD, USA), for studies published between 2005 and 2015 in the multidisciplinary and cardiology journals with the highest impact factors. French abstracts submitted and accepted at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) congress were provided directly by the ESC. The number of cardiovascular projects was analysed through the http://www.ClinicalTrials.gov database and the French site for government-funded projects, over the decade from 2008 to 2017. RESULTS: Overall, France was ranked fifth in Europe and eighth worldwide for CVD publications. During the 10-year period from 2005 to 2015, French publications accounted for 0.2-0.3% of articles in top multidisciplinary journals and 2% of articles in top cardiology journals. We observed a steady decrease in French abstract submissions at the ESC congress (from 5% to 3.5% in 10 years), and in 2017, France was ranked eighth in Europe. Across European countries, France has been ranked first for declared cardiovascular research on http://www.ClinicalTrials.gov over the last 3 years, for both interventional and observational studies. Regarding the Hospital Programme of Clinical Research, heart ranked second after neurosciences. CONCLUSIONS: France is very well represented in terms of new CVD projects, but actual French scientific production scores poorly. Investing in CVD research is a priority to increase the level of publication and to compete with other leading countries.

RESUMO

Background: The frequency of publications by nursing scientists from the German-speaking area in journals with a high impact factor is an indicator for participation of the discipline in the international discourse. Previous publication analyses focused on nursing science journals only and regularly found an underrepresentation of experimental studies and clinical topics. Aim: To identify and analyse the number of publications by nursing scientists from Germany, Austria and German-speaking Switzerland in international high impact journals. Method: The Journal Citation Reports were used to identify nursing relevant categories of journals in which the highest 10 % of the years 2010 to 2014 were selected according to the 5-year Impact Factor. Inclusion of publications and data extraction were carried out by two independent persons. Results: 106939 publications from 126 journals were screened; 100 publications were identified with 229 contributions by 114 nursing scientists. 42 % of studies are observational and 11 % are experimental. The majority of studies are clinically oriented (55 %). More than 50 % have been published in the past two years. Conclusions: The number of publications by nursing scientists from the German-speaking countries in High Impact Journals is low. There is an increase throughout the observation period. In opposite to former analyses a higher proportion of clinical research has been found.

ABSTRACT In this article we employ bibliometric techniques to examine the authorial, disciplinary, bibliographical, and thematic profiles of the Journal DADOS, from its foundation to the present (1966-2015). The database was amassed using two different methods, the periodical's most recent output was scraped from the website SciELO in XML format while the older issues had to be scanned and its bibliography extracted by painstakingly copying and pasting each entry. We employed two techniques to analyze the material: Correspondence Analysis, to determine the patterns of co-citations and thus to chart the bibliographical map of the periodical, and Topic Modeling, to identify the main themes and approaches in the corpus. The results show that Dados privileged themes and debates that were most relevant in each period, in a constant attempt to bring together methodological rigor and public relevance.

This article presents a bibliometric study carried out in order to describe the trends and evolutions of French breast cancer research from 2003 to 2013. The results show an increase in the number of publications, especially international publications coordinated by non-French institutions. The most visible topics, in terms of number of publications by keywords, are related to biology, clinical trials and genetics. Most publications are written by authors affiliated to comprehensive cancer centres, followed by universities, research centres, university hospitals and governmental agencies. The importance of publications by topic varies throughout the years: there has been an increase of the number of publications related to targeted therapies or genomics. The importance of institutions or country affiliation of authors varies with the topics. This study, especially the analysis by keywords, enables the coordinators of research programs to identify the predominant actors and themes.

RESUMO

The "système d'interrogation, de gestion et d'analyse des publications scientifiques" (System for Identification, Management and Analysis of Scientific Publications), or SIGAPS, is an innovative tool of French design that enables the identification and analysis of bibliographic references produced by a given researcher or unit using the Medline database (PubMed). This evaluation takes into account the author's rank of signature and the impact factor of the journal of publication within the discipline in question. The limits are those of the impact factor. Analyses produced by SIGAPS enable financial assessment to be made by hospitals.
