RESUMO

In recent years, frequent and substantial area-wide power outages have underscored the critical need for cities to possess robust backup power sources capable of swift response to prevent prolonged power system disruptions. Electric vehicles can contribute electricity to the power grid using vehicle-to-grid technology. The power delivered by electric vehicles in this context is termed as response capability. However, existing studies have overlooked response capability dynamics during transitions between electric vehicle states-such as the shift from charging or discharging to an idle state, thereby hindering a comprehensive understanding of this aspect. Hence, this paper introduces a multi-timescale response capability prediction model that evaluates the electric vehicle's state of charge to ensure users' requirements are met for upcoming trips. To better assess users' travel demand, the gravity model is employed as a precursor to response capability prediction to further enhance the validity of the prediction outcomes. Three neighborhoods in Los Angeles have been chosen for analysis: Downtown, Lincoln Heights, and Silver Lake. Predictions indicate that neglecting the response capability when electric vehicles undergo state transformation can lead to a differential response capability ranging from 2000 kWh to 4000 kWh, resulting in a loss of prediction accuracy by 20 % to 25 %.•The response capability of EV is non-zero during state transformations•Users' travel demand assessment•Seamless integration of vehicle-to-grid technology into the power grid.

RESUMO

In organic solar cells (OSCs), electron acceptors have undergone multiple updates, from the initial fullerene derivatives, to the later acceptor-donor-acceptor type non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs), and now to Y-series NFAs, based on which efficiencies have reached over 19%. However, the key property responsible for further improved efficiency from molecular structure design is remained unclear. Herein, the material properties are comprehensively scanned by selecting PC71BM, IT-4F, and L8-BO as the representatives for different development stages of acceptors. For comparison, asymmetric acceptor of BTP-H5 with desired loosely bounded excitons is designed and synthesized. It's identified that the reduction of intrinsically exciton binding energy (Eb) and the enhancement of exciton delocalization capability act as the key roles in boosting the performance. Notably, 100 meV reduction in Eb has been observed from PC71BM to BTP-H5, correspondingly, electron-hole pair distance of BTP-H5 is almost two times over PC71BM. As a result, efficiency is improved from 40% of S-Q limit for PC71BM-based OSC to 60% for BTP-H5-based one, which achieves an efficiency of 19.07%, among the highest values for binary OSCs. This work reveals the confirmed function of exciton delocalization capability quantitatively in pushing the efficiency of OSCs, thus providing an enlightenment for future molecular design.

RESUMO

From the perspective of innovation motivation, low-carbon innovation is divided into substantive low-carbon innovation and strategic low-carbon innovation. On this basis, this study empirically investigates the impact and mechanism of digital transformation on enterprise low-carbon innovation using data from China's A-share listed enterprises from 2005 to 2019. The results show that digital transformation promotes the overall level of enterprise low-carbon innovation, substantial low-carbon innovation, and strategic low-carbon innovation, with a more significant impact on strategic low-carbon innovation. For enterprises with large-scale, belonging to high-monopoly industries and located in high-marketization regions, the promotion of digital transformation is more significant and facilitates strategic low-carbon innovation more than substantive low-carbon innovation. Based on the internal capability perspective, enhancing management capability, R&D capability, and environmental information disclosure capability are three important channels of digital transformation affecting low-carbon innovation.

RESUMO

The potential therapeutic benefits of human dental pulp stem cells (HDPSCs) in dental regenerative medicine have been demonstrated. However, little is known about the molecular mechanisms regulating the biological characteristics of HDPSCs. The experiment aims to explore whether VEGF activates signaling pathways such as FAK, PI3K, Akt, and p38 in HDPSCs, and to investigate the molecular mechanisms by which VEGF influences proliferation and migration of HDPSCs. Normal and inflamed human dental pulp (HDP) samples were collected, and the levels of VEGF in HDP were assessed. HDPSCs were cultured and purified. HDPSCs were stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) at gradient concentrations, and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) was used to assess changes in VEGF mRNA. Gradient concentrations of VEGF were used to stimulate HDPSCs, and cell migration ability was evaluated through scratch assays and Transwell chamber experiments. Phosphorylation levels of FAK, AKT, and P38 were assessed using Western blotting. Inhibitors of VEGFR2, FAK, AKT, P38, and VEGF were separately applied to HDPSCs, and cell migration ability and phosphorylation levels of FAK, AKT, and P38 were determined. The results indicated significant differences in VEGF levels between normal and inflamed HDP tissues, with levels in the inflamed state reaching 435% of normal levels (normal: 87.91 ng/mL, inflamed: 382.76 ng/mL, P < 0.05). LPS stimulation of HDPSCs showed a significant increase in VEGF mRNA expression with increasing LPS concentrations (LPS concentrations of 0.01, 0.1, 1, and 10 µg/mL resulted in VEGF mRNA expressions of 181.2%, 274.2%, 345.8%, and 460.9%, respectively, P < 0.05). VEGF treatment significantly enhanced the migration ability of HDPSCs in Transwell chamber experiments, with migration rates increasing with VEGF concentrations (VEGF concentrations of 0, 1, 10, 20, 50, and 100 ng/mL resulted in migration rates of 8.41%, 9.34%, 21.33%, 28.41%, 42.87%, and 63.15%, respectively, P < 0.05). Inhibitors of VEGFR2, FAK, AKT, P38, and combined VEGF stimulation demonstrated significant migration inhibition, with migration rates decreasing to 8.31%, 12.64%, 13.43%, 18.32%, and 74.17%, respectively. The migration rate with combined VEGF stimulation showed a significant difference (P < 0.05). The analysis of phosphorylation levels revealed that VEGF stimulation significantly activated phosphorylation of FAK, AKT, and P38, with phosphorylation levels increasing with VEGF concentrations (P < 0.05). The VEGF/VEGFR2 signaling axis regulated the migration ability of HDPSCs through the FAK/PI3K/AKT and P38MAPK pathways. This finding highlighted not only the crucial role of VEGF in injury repair of HDPSCs but also provided important clues for a comprehensive understanding of the potential applications of this signaling axis in dental regenerative medicine.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: As suicide remains a global public health concern, recent work has sought to characterize mechanisms underlying the transition from suicidal ideation to action. Acquired capability for suicide, or fearlessness about death, has been identified as one key factor underlying this transition; however, understanding how this capability emerges remains limited. This study sought to extend previous work on the correlates of fearlessness about death by examining its relationship with painful and provocative events and emotional reactivity. METHODS: We tested the extent to which trait emotional reactivity and past self-injurious behavior moderated the relationship between assaultive trauma exposure and fearlessness about death in a diverse sample of 273 community adults (aged 18-55, M/SD = 32.77/10.78). RESULTS: A three-way interaction emerged, such that among individuals with heightened emotional reactivity and a history of self-injurious behavior (suicide attempt or non-suicidal self-injury), assaultive trauma was associated with increased fearlessness about death. In contrast, among adults with low emotional reactivity and a history of self-injurious behavior, assaultive trauma was associated with reduced fearlessness about death. CONCLUSIONS: Results suggest that emotional reactivity may be a key dispositional factor that influences how trauma exposure and self-injurious behavior impact fearlessness about death.

RESUMO

Lithium metal batteries (LMBs) have emerged in recent years as highly promising candidates for high-density energy storage systems. Despite their immense potential, mutual constraints arise when optimizing energy density, rate capability, and operational safety, which greatly hinder the commercialization of LMBs. The utilization of oriented structures in LMBs appears as a promising strategy to address three key performance barriers: 1) low efficiency of active material utilization at high surface loading, 2) easy formation of Li dendrites and damage to interfaces under high-rate cycling, and 3) low ionic conductivity of solid-state electrolytes in high safety LMBs. This review aims to holistically introduce the concept of oriented structures, provide criteria for quantifying the degree of orientation, and elucidate their systematic effects on the properties of materials and devices. Furthermore, a detailed categorization of oriented structures is proposed to offer more precise guidance for the design of LMBs. This review also provides a comprehensive summary of preparation techniques for oriented structures and delves into the mechanisms by which these can enhance the energy density, rate capability, and safety of LMBs. Finally, potential applications of oriented structures in LMBs and the crucial challenges that need to be addressed in this field are explored.

RESUMO

Clearly delineating the key capabilities of organizational resilience for fisheries enterprises holds significant practical implications, as it can mitigate financing risks and foster the sustainable development of the fisheries industry. Based on the "dynamic capabilities perspective", this study constructs an analytical framework for the resilience capabilities of fisheries enterprises against financing risk. A hybrid method comprising the probabilistic linguistic term set, the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory, and the additive ratio assessment is applied to a case study of Homey Group, examining the diverse pathways through which financing risk forms and impacts outcomes. The main findings are: (1) In the comprehensive assessment of the role of resilience capabilities in addressing the "Risk-Seeking-Decline Type" financing risk factors, market diversification and sustainable practices are accorded higher weights surpassing financial resources as the two most value-enhancing resilience capabilities. Enterprises characterized by a "Risk-Seeking-Loss Type" profile tend to assign higher weights to market diversification and technological infrastructure when evaluating financing risk resilience capabilities. (2) Regarding the key capabilities of organizational resilience, Homey Group possesses a weak risk management system for monitoring and evaluating significant risks and implementing control activities. (3) With regards to suggestions for improvement, it is advisable to delegate oversight of the risk identification process to a designated risk committee or specialists in risk management. The conclusions contribute to a deeper understanding of the nature and mechanism of resilience capabilities for fisheries enterprises and provides implications for risk management and sustainable development.

RESUMO

Capability wellbeing can potentially provide a holistic outcome for health economic evaluation and the capability approach seems promising for African countries. As yet there is no work that has explored the evaluative space needed for health and care decision making at the whole population level and procedures that merely translate existing measures developed in the global north to contexts in the global south risk embedding structural inequalities. This work seeks to elicit the concepts within the capability wellbeing evaluative space for general adult populations in Tanzania and Malawi. Semi-structured interviews with 68 participants across Tanzania and Malawi were conducted between October 2021 and July 2022. Analysis used thematic coding frames and the writing of analytic accounts. Interview schedules were common across the two country settings, however data collection and analysis were conducted independently by two separate teams and only brought together once it was clear that the data from the two countries was sufficiently aligned for a single analysis. Eight common attributes of capability wellbeing were found across the two countries: financial security; basic needs; achievement and personal development; attachment, love and friendship; participation in community activities; faith and spirituality; health; making decisions without unwanted interference. These attributes can be used to generate outcome measures for use in economic evaluations comparing alternative health interventions. By centring the voices of Tanzanians and Malawians in the construction of attributes that describe a good life, the research can facilitate greater equity within economic evaluations across different global settings.

RESUMO

Assessing water exchange capability is an essential step to understand the vulnerability of waterbody to potential pollution. To characterize the spatiotemporal variations of water exchange rate in Hong Kong waters, a three-dimensional hydrodynamic and transport model was implemented. In this study, water residence time (Tre) representing the water exchange rate was <10 days in open waters but exceeded 60 days in weakly-flushed Tolo Harbour. Sensitivity experiments revealed that river discharge accelerated water exchange in western areas, especially during the wet season, causing 45 % ~ 37 % declines in regional Tre. Conversely, tidal currents were the primary limiting factor, particularly during winter. Furthermore, the seasonal reversal of vertical Tre difference in Mirs Bay demonstrated how intrusion water facilitates water exchange by dilution effects. This comprehensive assessment of coastal water exchange capability not only enhances understanding of local marine pollution distribution but also informs coastal management strategies, which can be applied to other coastal water areas.

RESUMO

"Free association" and the "fundamental rule" are bedrock for psychoanalytic therapy and apply to what both patient and analyst should experience in the process. The article traces Sigmund Freud's revolutionary recognition of the importance of free association that began with his tribute to the works of Ludwig Börne and Friedrich Schiller. The author invokes other proposals akin to free association made by artists and scientists, including John Keats, Charles Dickens, Robert Frost, Thomas S. Kuhn, Arthur Koestler, and Albert Einstein. While emphasizing the importance and the liberatory potential of free association as it relates to effective treatment and discovery, the author contends that there is a "moral press" for both the patient and the analyst to permit free associative thoughts, particularly to question assumptions about how things are supposed to be.

RESUMO

With the rapid advancement of educational technology, the flipped classroom approach has garnered considerable attention owing to its potential for enhancing students' learning capabilities. This research delves into the flipped classroom teaching methodology, employing the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), learning engagement theory, and the 4C skills (comprising communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking) to investigate its effects on learning capabilities. The research surveyed 413 students from three universities in Jiangxi Province, employing stratified random sampling. SPSS 24.0 and Amos were used for structural equation modeling and hypothesis testing analysis. The findings indicate that: (1) Performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and peer influence significantly enhance students' learning engagement in the flipped classroom. (2) Students' learning engagement in the flipped classroom notably promotes their learning capabilities. (3) Performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and peer influence can significantly boost learning capabilities by increasing learning engagement. (4) Personality traits significantly moderate the effect of peer influence on learning engagement, highlighting the crucial role of individual differences in learning. (5) The level of students' learning engagement is differentially influenced by performance expectancy and peer influence across various academic disciplines. Ultimately, this research provides valuable insights for educational policymakers and guides improvements in teaching practices, collectively advancing educational quality and equity.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Clinical research competence determines the quality of clinical research and the reliability of research findings. We aimed to explore the clinical research implementation capabilities of breast cancer treatment departments in China. METHODS: This was a department-based cross-sectional study conducted in the form of electronic questionnaires on the Wenjuanxing platform from 7th August to 31st August 2023 among hospitals from the first batch of breast cancer standardized diagnosis and treatment quality control pilot centers in China. RESULTS: A total of 127 questionnaires from 122 hospitals were ultimately included in the analysis. Medical personnel involved in the clinical research of 118 (92.9 %) departments received good clinical practice (GCP) training. The steps of the approval process from research initiation to completion lasted 2-4 weeks or longer. The majority of departments initiated or participated in 2 or fewer clinical research projects over the past year. Among the differences between different departments, the Department of Medical Oncology had a better qualification profile and process and greater number of initiated and participated clinical studies than did the Department of Surgical Oncology. For needs and problems, most of the departments were strongly willing to undertake clinical research and receive professional training; the most common problem in the process of conducting studies was patient recruitment. CONCLUSIONS: Most departments generally exhibited complete capabilities for implementing clinical research. Improvements in implementation efficiency, quality of research and patient recruitment are still needed. Professional training and communication, as well as the recommendation of clinical research, are required in future development.

RESUMO

AIMS: In 2018 the National Institute of Health and Care Research, United Kingdom, launched a 3-year Senior Nurse and Midwife Research Leader Programme to support nurse and midwifery research leaders to develop research capacity and capability within NHS organisations. We report the results of a service evaluation of the programme strengths, areas for improvement and achievement of programme aims. DESIGN: Partially mixed, concurrent mixed methods programme evaluation, including: (a) meeting evaluation (survey), (b) annual evaluation (survey) and (c) qualitative stakeholder interviews. METHODS: Survey results were quantitatively analysed using descriptive statistics. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed, deductively coded using elements within the logic model and analysed using the seven-stage framework analysis method. RESULTS: Satisfaction with the programme was high (75%). The main perceived benefit of the programme was being part of a network. Challenges included accessing learning resources, lack of opportunity to network and lack of clarity about the programme aims. Meetings were evaluated as relevant and helpful (mean 93%), thought-provoking (92%), inspiring (91%), at the appropriate level (91%) and aligned with the programme aims (90%). All meetings were ranked as highly beneficial by attendees (92%). Stakeholder feedback on the programme success reflected the importance of leadership, the programme design and content, 'connection and community' and communication with and about the cohort. Overall, the anticipated programme aims were met, evaluating well from both the perspective of those on the programme and the wider stakeholder group. There has been a lack of investment in schemes to support research leadership development for nurses/midwives. A novel programme to support nursing/midwifery research leadership was positively evaluated. The programme is a useful model to support future capacity and capability building for nurses/midwives. The work is reported with reference to the SQUIRE 2 and SRQR checklists. No patient or public contribution.

RESUMO

With the promotion of the photovoltaic (PV) industry throughout the county, the scale of rural household PV continues to expand. However, due to the randomness of PV power generation, large-scale household PV grid connection has a serious impact on the safe and stable operation of the distribution network. Based on this background, this paper considers three typical scenarios, including household PV without energy storage, household PV with distributed energy storage, and household PV with centralized energy storage. Then, a calculation model for PV local consumption rate and annual net cost under different scenarios is constructed. Combined with a natural village in Shandong Province, the PV local consumption rate and annual net cost under three scenarios are compared and analyzed, and the potential of energy storage sharing in reducing storage capacity and improving PV local consumption is explored. The results show that configuring energy storage for household PV can significantly improve the power self-balancing capability. When meeting the same PV local consumption, household PV centralized energy storage can achieve smaller energy storage configuration and lower cost compared to household PV distributed energy storage. Finally, suggestions are proposed to further promote the development of household PV energy storage system. The research results can provide reference for improving the local consumption of rural household PV and accelerating the application of household PV energy storage system.

RESUMO

An efficient interface and composition modification strategy is proposed to significantly increase the rate capacity and initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) of SnO anodes via energy band structure modulation for Na-ion batteries (SIBs). The as-fabricated SnO@Bi@C material with Bi nanocrystals homogeneously dispersed on and around the SnO surface is prepared by an electrospinning method. The excellently dispersed Bi nanocrystals realize an effective interface contact with SnO and Na2O, which effectively lowers the electron conduction barriers and promotes sodium-ion release and transport upon the desodiation process, increasing the rate capacity and ICE of the SnO anode. The prepared SnO@Bi@C exhibits a much higher rate capacity up to 10 A g-1, except an improved ICE of 80.67%, compared to 57.38% of SnO@C. Importantly, the intercalation of Na+ between layer-structured Bi galleries provides a good basis for excellent cycle stability due to the highways constructed inside the prepared composites. This finding provides an effective tactic to establish ion transport high-speed channels, which essentially increase the rate performance and the ICE of the SnO-based anodes.

RESUMO

In the age of digitization, digital transformation has emerged as a crucial pathway for companies to achieve sustainable development. In a sample of 24,103 firm-year observations from 3,508 listed companies in China's A-share market between 2007 and 2020, we investigate the relationship between corporate digital transformation and financing constraints based on dynamic capability theory. The proportion of intangible assets dedicated to digital technology is employed as a measure of the degree of digital transformation, and the SA index is utilized to assess the level of financing constraints. The findings demonstrate that digital transformation plays a significant role in alleviating financing constraints. In addition, greater institutional ownership leads to a pronounced negative correlation between digital transformation and financing constraints. From the perspective of dynamic capability theory, this study provides empirical evidence supporting research on economic consequences associated with digital transformation. Our results may contribute towards government formulation and implementation of policies promoting digital transformation to create a supportive external environment for businesses. Companies must seize opportunities associated with digital transformation to mitigate financing constraints.

RESUMO

Aging is a contributor to liver disease. Hence, the concept of liver aging has become prominent and has attracted considerable interest, but its underlying mechanism remains poorly understood. In our study, the internal mechanism of liver aging was explored via multi-omics analysis and molecular experiments to support future targeted therapy. An aged rat liver model was established with d-galactose, and two other senescent hepatocyte models were established by treating HepG2 cells with d-galactose and H2O2. We then performed transcriptomic and metabolomic assays of the aged liver model and transcriptome analyses of the senescent hepatocyte models. In livers, genes related to peroxisomes, fatty acid elongation, and fatty acid degradation exhibited down-regulated expression with aging, and the hepatokine Fgf21 expression was positively correlated with the down-regulation of these genes. In senescent hepatocytes, similar to the results found in aged livers, FGF21 expression was also decreased. Moreover, the expressions of cell cycle-related genes were significantly down-regulated, and the down-regulated gene E2F8 was the key cell cycle-regulating transcription factor. We then validated that FGF21 overexpression can protect against liver aging and that FGF21 can attenuate the declines in the antioxidant and regenerative capacities in the aging liver. We successfully validated the results from cellular and animal experiments using human liver and blood samples. Our study indicated that FGF21 is an important target for inhibiting liver aging and suggested that pharmacological prevention of the reduction in FGF21 expression due to aging may be used to treat liver aging-related diseases.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The Medical Service of the Federal Employment Agency is responsible for socio-medical assessments of clients whose ability to work in the labor market is in question. Data about the Medical Service, its structure, and its performance were previously only available within the Federal Employment Agency. METHODS: In October 2023, data from the Medical Service containing information on the employee structure, clients, and orders were extracted from three data systems, processed, and analyzed. RESULTS: The number of full-time equivalents (FTEs) in the Medical Service decreased significantly from 2016 (n = 859.1 FTEs) to 2021 (n = 799.0 FTEs). This holds true for the professional groups of physicians, specialist assistants, medical assistants, and externally contracted physicians. The number of female employee FTEs rose significantly during this period from 85.6% (2016) to 87.0% (2021). The part-time ratio also increased significantly from 41.4% (2016) to 50.6% (2021). The number of assignments to the Medical Service was stable in 2017-2019 at around 630,000 but showed a reduction in 2020 (n = 518,538) and 2021 (n = 545,289); in particular, the number of assessments with client contact decreased significantly from 2019 (n = 166,980) to 2020 (n = 52,484). Most of the assignments came from the field of job placement (n = 349,346). DISCUSSION: The size of the Medical Service was in line with the total number of orders, which can certainly be seen as COVID-19-related in 2020 and 2021 and is likely due to the overall shortage of skilled personnel. The proportion of women and part-time employees increased significantly, with a nationwide part-time trend emerging not only among women. In order to enable all clients who may be unable to perform in the labor market to receive a quick assessment, it is necessary that the number of employees in the Medical Service does not decrease in the future.

RESUMO

The development of the electric vehicle industry has spurred demand for secondary batteries capable of rapid-charging and slow-discharging. Among them, sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) with layered oxide as the cathode exhibit competitive advantages due to their comprehensive electrochemical performance. However, to meet the requirements of rapid-charging and slow-discharging scenarios, it is necessary to further enhance the rate performance of the cathode material to achieve symmetrical capacity at different rates. Simultaneously, minimizing lattice strain during asymmetric electrochemical processes is also significant in alleviating strain accumulation. In this study, the ordered distribution of transition metal layers and the diffusion pathway of sodium ions are optimized through targeted K-doping of sodium layers, leading to a reduction of the diffusion barrier and endowment of prominent rate performance. At a 20C rate, the capacity of the cathode can reach 94% of that at a 0.1C rate. Additionally, the rivet effect of the sodium layers resulted in a global volume strain of only 0.03% for the modified cathode during charging at a 10C rate and discharging at a 1C rate. In summary, high-performance SIBs, with promising prospects for rapid-charging and slow-discharging capability, are obtained through the regulation of sodium layers, opening up new avenues for commercial applications.
