Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) due to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has affected the whole world. Acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) has been reported after administration of mRNA- or adenoviral vector-based COVID-19 vaccines, including Ad26.COV2-S, BNT162b2, mRNA-1273, and ChAdOx1 nCov-19. However, whether inactivated vaccines, such as CoronaVac, could cause TTP and whether the symptoms in TTPs caused by inactivated vaccines are different from previously reported cases are unknown. In this study, two cases were reported. Both cases developed TTP after the second CoronaVac vaccination shot, but not the first. They demonstrated symptoms of fever, neurological abnormalities, renal dysfunction, thrombocytopenia, and hemolysis. Both patients achieved complete remission through several sessions of plasma exchanges and immune suppression. The incidence of TTP in Nanjing area was analyzed. The number of patients with TTP was 12 in 2019, 6 in 2020, 16 in 2021, and 19 in 2022. To the authors' knowledge, this report is the first report of TTP associated with inactivated COVID-19 vaccine (CoronaVac). The rarity and delayed onset may be due to the relatively milder immune response caused by the inactivated vaccines than mRNA-based ones. Timely plasma exchange is a vital treatment for CoronaVac-related TTP, similar to activated vaccine-related TTP.

PURPOSE: The study aimed to investigate the potential influence of COVID-19 infection on embryo implantation and early development in women undergoing frozen embryo transfer (FET), with a specific focus on infections occurring at different periods around FET. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on women who had undergone FET during a period marked by a significant surge in COVID-19 infection in Shanghai. All enrolled women experienced their first documented COVID-19 infection around the time of FET, ensuring that infections did not occur prior to oocyte retrieval. Participants were categorized into six groups based on the timing of infection: uninfected, ≥ 60 days, < 60 days before FET, 0-14 days, 15-28 days, and 29-70 days after FET. Clinical outcomes were compared across these groups. RESULTS: The infection rate among the total of 709 cases was 78.28%. Infected individuals exhibited either asymptomatic or mild symptoms. The ongoing pregnancy rates for the first four groups were 40.7%, 44.4%, 40.5%, and 34.2% (P = 0.709) respectively, biochemical pregnancy rates (59.1% vs. 61.1% vs. 67.6% vs. 55.7%, P = 0.471) and clinical pregnancy rates (49.6% vs. 55.6% vs. 55.4% vs. 48.1%, P = 0.749), all showed no significant differences. Early spontaneous abortion rates across all six groups were 18.3%, 20.0%, 25.0%, 28.9%, 5.4%, and 19.0% respectively, with no significant differences (P = 0.113). Multivariable logistic analysis revealed no significant correlation between the infection and ongoing pregnancy. CONCLUSION: Asymptomatic or mild COVID-19 infections occurring around FET do not appear to have a significant adverse impact on early pregnancy outcomes.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of mild SARS-CoV-2 infection on hematological parameters of adult blood donors and the suitability of apheresis platelet donation, the changes of the hematological parameters in blood donors with mild infection of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant strain were evaluated. METHODS: Seventy-two blood donors with mild COVID-19 symptoms who donated consecutive apheresis platelets for 3 times from December 2022 to January 2023, 42 cases among which were included in the infection-positive group, and 30 cases in the suspected infection group. Forty-two donors un-vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2, un-infected, and donated three consecutive apheresis platelets from October to November 2022 were included in the control group. The changes of blood routine testing in the positive group and the suspected infection group were retrospectively compared before (Time1) and after (Time2 and Time3) the onset of symptoms, three consecutive times (Time1, Time2, Time3) in the control group by repeated measures analysis of variance. The Bayesian discriminant method was used to establish a discriminant equation to determine whether the recent infection of SARS-CoV-2 occurred or not. RESULTS: Simple effect of the number times of tests in the positive and suspected infection groups was significant( Finfection-positive group=6.98, P < 0.001, partial η2=0.79, Fsuspected infection group=4.31, P < 0.001, partial η2=0.70). The positive group and the suspected infection group had lower RBC, HCT, and HGB, and higher PLT and PCT at Time2 compared to Time1 and Time3(P < 0.05). The positive group and the suspected infection group showes RDW-CV and RDW-SD at Time3 higher than Time1 and Time2 (P < 0.001). The simple effect of the number times of tests in the control group was not significant ( F=0.96, P =0.55, partial η2=0.34). The difference of the whole blood count parameters in the control group for three times was not statistically significant (P >0.05). We established a discriminant equation to determine whether the recent infection of SARS-CoV-2 occurred or not. The equation had an eigenvalue of 0.22, a canonical correlation of 0.43 (χ2=27.81, P < 0.001), and an analysis accuracy of 72.9%. CONCLUSION: The hematological indicators of RBC, HCT, HGB, PLT, PCT, RDW-CV and RDW-SD in blood donors who had infected with mild COVID-19 showed dynamic changes. The discriminant equation for whether they are infected recently with COVID-19 has a high accuracy rate.

RESUMO

Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a global pandemic epidemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which poses a serious threat to human health worldwide and results in significant economic losses. With the continuous emergence of new virus strains, small molecule drugs remain the most effective treatment for COVID-19. The traditional drug development process usually requires several years; however, the development of computer-aided drug design (CADD) offers the opportunity to develop innovative drugs quickly and efficiently. The literature review describes the general process of CADD, the viral proteins that play essential roles in the life cycle of SARS-CoV-2 and can serve as therapeutic targets, and examples of drug screening of viral target proteins by applying CADD methods. Finally, the potential of CADD in COVID-19 therapy, the deficiency, and the possible future development direction are discussed.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the impacts of delayed ureteral stent removal on the quality of life (QoL) and mental health of urinary calculi postoperative patients due to the corona virus disease 2019(COVID-19) pandemic. METHODS: The demographic and clinical data of patients with ureteral stent placement after urinary endoscopic lithotripsy and returned to Peking University People's Hospital for stent removal from December 2019 to June 2020 were collected. Ureteral stent symptoms questionnaire (USSQ) score and the outcome 20-item self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rating depression scale (SDS) were collected to estimate the QoL and mental status. The USSQ consisted of 44 questions in 6 domains (including urinary symptom, physical pain, general health, work performance, sexual function, and ureteral stent related infection). For most questions in each domain, its score was a five-point Likert-type scale from 1 to 5, and a small proportion of questions was quantified by 1 to 4 or 1 to 7 scale. SAS and SDS both contained 20 questions used to assess a patient's level of anxiety and depression. Its scoring for each item was on a four-point Likert-type scale from 1 to 4. A total score (ranging from 20 to 80) was the main statistical indicator. The level of clinical anxiety and depression was quantified by using standard scores (total score multiplied by 1.25 to produce integers). And the multi-group structural equation model was constructed by analysis of moment structure (AMOS) analysis. RESULTS: Overall, 71 patients were enrolled for analysis. It was found that the median duration of ureteral stent time differed significantly between the control and delayed groups for 32 (30, 33) d and 94.5 (88, 103) d, respectively. The delayed group resulted in higher scores in the USSQ multidimensional, which included urinary symptoms, general health, work performance and ureteral stent related infections. Anxiety and depression were also significantly serious in the delayed group than in the control group. A longer indwelling time of a ureteral stent could exacerbate the effects of urinary symptoms and physical pain on work performance (P=0.029 < 0.05). Among them, the patients with severe urinary symptoms leading to poor work performance were most significantly affected by prolonged ureteral stent duration time (CR=2.619>1.96). CONCLUSION: Patients with delayed ureteral stent removal due to the COVID-19 had resulted in worse QoL and mental status. Stents related symptoms are more severe in patients with higher anxiety and depression degree during COVID-19. To improve the QoL and mental health of patients after urinary calculi surgery during COVID-19, it is still not recommended to prolong the stent duration time or corresponding intervention measures should be taken.

Cases of the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), monkeypox virus (MPXV), and avian influenza A Virus (IAV) have increased during our current prolonged Corona Virus Disease 2019 (CoViD-19) pandemic. The rise of these viral infectious diseases may be associated or even inter-dependent with acute, latent or recurrent infection with Systemic Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona virus-2 (SARS-CoV2). The nonsensical neologism 'tripledemic' was tentatively introduced to describe the confluent nature of these trends (epidemic comes from two Greek words: epi=on, about, demos=people; pandemic is also derived from Ancient Greek: pan=all, demos=people; but 'tripledemic' would derive from Latin triplus=three, Greek demos=people, and would at best signify 'three countries, three peoples', but certainly not the current threat of confluence of three, or perhaps more pandemics). Emerging evidence suggests that monkey pox and CoViD-19, among several other viral diseases, produce significant observable manifestations in the oral cavity. From a clinical standpoint, dentists and dental personnel may be among the first health professionals to encounter and diagnose clinical signs of converging infections. From the immune surveillance viewpoint, viral recombination and viral interference among these infectious diseases must be examined to determine the potential threat of these colliding pandemics.

From the first reports of SARS-CoV-2, at the end of 2019 to the present, the global mortality associated with COVID-19 has reached 6,952,522 deaths as reported by the World Health Organization (WHO). Early intubation and mechanical ventilation can increase the survival rate of critically ill patients. This prospective study was carried out on 885 patients in the ICU of Mureș County Clinical Hospital, Romania. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 54 patients were included. Patients were monitored during hospitalization and at 6-month follow-up. We analyzed the relationship between invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) and non-invasive mechanical ventilation (NIMV) and radiological changes on thoracic CT scans performed at 6-month follow-up and found no significant association. Regarding paraclinical analysis, there was a statistically significant association between patients grouped by IMV and ferritin level on day 1 of admission (p = 0.034), and between patients grouped by PaO2/FiO2 ratio with metabolic syndrome (p = 0.03) and the level of procalcitonin (p = 0.01). A significant proportion of patients with COVID-19 admitted to the ICU developed pulmonary fibrosis as observed at a 6-month evaluation. Patients with oxygen supplementation or mechanical ventilation require dynamic monitoring and radiological investigations, as there is a possibility of long-term pulmonary fibrosis that requires pharmacological interventions and finding new therapeutic alternatives.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has resulted in a significant number of cases and deaths worldwide. Vaccination is the most effective preventive measure against the disease. This study aimed to assess the mortality rates of COVID-19 patients in the United States and the effectiveness of Pfizer (Pfizer, NY, USA), Moderna (Moderna, MA, USA), and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson, NJ, USA) vaccines in preventing mortality. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA-2020) guidelines. Eligible studies reporting on the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines on patient outcomes were included. The search was performed in PubMed, Cochrane, and Google Scholar databases. The data were extracted, and risk ratios (RR) were calculated for mortality outcomes. The analysis was performed using Review Manager software, and bias assessments were conducted using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Meta-Analysis tools. A total of seven studies with 21,618,297 COVID-19 patients were included in the meta-analysis. The odds ratio (OR) for mortality among unvaccinated patients compared to vaccinated patients was 2.46 (95% CI: 1.71-3.53), indicating that unvaccinated patients were 2.46 times more likely to die from COVID-19. The findings of this study support the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination in reducing mortality among infected individuals. Unvaccinated patients had a significantly higher risk of mortality compared to vaccinated patients. Vaccination remains a crucial strategy to mitigate the severity of the disease and reduce mortality rates. Efforts should be made to address vaccine hesitancy and ensure widespread vaccine coverage.

[Purpose] Behavioral restrictions during the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic may have affected the physical activity levels of college students. We aimed to characterize the body composition and physical activity of college students during these behavioral restrictions. [Participants and Methods] The body composition (height, weight, body mass index, body fat mass, body fat percentage, total body muscle mass, free-fat muscle index [FFMI], and fat mass index [FMI]), physical activity, amount the of walking, amount of daily activity, and the number of steps were measured in 52 university students. [Results] For both male and females, the number of steps taken was lower than the average steps reported by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. In males, FFMI had a strong positive correlation with physical activity, amount of walking, and the number of steps taken. In females, FFMI had a strong positive correlation with physical activity and the amount of walking, as well as a moderate positive correlation with the amount of daily activity. [Conclusion] Since physical activity and walking of university students during COVID-19 affect FFMI, it is necessary to develop an exercise program that considers behavioral patterns.

Background: Characterized by rapid transmission but lower severity, the new Omicron wave brought about an acute increase in local corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Shanghai, followed by stricter infection prevention and control strategies. Inevitably, more time was required for emergency consultation and treatment of children with critical illnesses. Therefore, a multidimensional approach was designed to streamline the emergency service and reduce the incidence of nosocomial infection of sever acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) during the Omicron wave for the emergency department (ED) at the Children's Hospital of Fudan University (CHFU). Methods: A multidimensional approach was implemented in the ED to help achieve a balance between the demand for emergency services and pandemic control, consisting of ED layout adjustment; electronic screening (E-screening) measures; standard management processes for patients, medical staff, and goods transfer; reliable disinfection measures; and a surveillance system for infection prevention and control. To evaluate the effect of the management strategy, the data on nosocomial infection cases and occupational exposure episodes among staff in the ED were collected. The demographic and clinical characteristics of level I/II children by the five-level pediatric triage tool and their mean duration of stay in the resuscitation room were collected. Results: There were 12,114 ED visitors from March 1 to May 31 in 2022, among which 53.24% were medical emergencies (6,449/12,114) and 46.76% were surgical emergencies (5,665/12,114). Twenty-nine patients were sent to the buffer zone, four of whom were transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) because of the critical situation. Six patients tested positive for COVID-19 after entering ED, including three in the buffer zone and three in the ED clinic, causing a temporary closure of the ED for disinfection. There were no reports on medical care delays, unintended deaths, staff with COVID-19 infection, or occupational exposures to COVID-19. Conclusions: Our findings highlight the effectiveness of the multidimensional approach, which can simultaneously meet the emergency care needs of patients as well as pandemic prevention and control. However, the results were obtained against the proportional decrease in clinic visitors due to the Shanghai lockdown. Dynamic assessment and further optimization may be adopted to cope with the pre-pandemic visit volume.

ObjectiveTo observe the clinical efficacy of Chinese medicine combined with indirect moxibustion plaster on corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients during recovery period. MethodNinety patients of COVID-19 during the recovery period were randomly divided into a Chinese medicine group, an indirect moxibustion plaster group, and a combination group,with 30 cases in each group. According to the 10th edition of COVID-19 Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol,patients in the Chinese medicine group received oral Chinese medicine based on syndrome differentiation,one dose per day, twice a day. Patients in the indirect moxibustion plaster group were treated with indirect moxibustion plaster at Zusanli (ST 36), Pishu (BL 20), Dazhui (GV 14), Feishu (BL 13), Kongzui (LU 6), and Tiantu (CV 22),once a day,40 min each time. Patients in the combination group were treated with Chinese medicine combined with indirect moxibustion plaster. Treatment lasted two weeks. Before and after treatment,the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) symptom score,pulmonary computed tomography (CT) score,St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) score,blood routine indexes [white blood cell count (WBC),neutrophil count (NEUT),and lymphocyte count (LYM)], and inflammatory indexes [C-reactive protein (CRP),serum ferritin, and interleukin-6 (IL-6)] were observed in the three groups. The clinical efficacy was evaluated. ResultAfter treatment,the scores of TCM symptoms,pulmonary CT, and SGRQ,CRP,IL-6,and ferritin in the three groups decreased(P<0.05),while WBC and LYM increased(P<0.05), but there was no significant difference in NEUT. The above indexes in the combination group were better than those in the other two groups(P<0.05). After treatment, the cured and markedly effective rate was 76.7% (23/30) in the combination group, 50.0% (15/30) in the Chinese medicine group, and 46.7% (14/30) in the indirect moxibustion plaster group. The cured and markedly effective rate of the combination group was significantly higher than that of the Chinese medicine group (χ2=4.593, P<0.05) and the indirect moxibustion plaster group (χ2=5.711, P<0.05). The total effective rate was 96.7 % (29/30) in the combination group, 93.3% (28/30) in the Chinese medicine group, and 86.7% (26/30) in the indirect moxibustion plaster group. The total effective rate of the combination group was higher than that of the Chinese medicine group and the indirect moxibustion plaster group, but the differences were not statistically significant. ConclusionChinese medicine combined with indirect moxibustion plaster can effectively improve the clinical symptoms,promote pulmonary inflammation,blood routine indexes, and inflammatory indexes, and improve the quality of life of COVID-19 patients during the recovery period,which is more advantageous than Chinese medicine alone or indirect moxibustion plaster.

@#Since the first case of corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) at the end of 2019, the virus has spread rapidly around the world and has become a global public health problem. In the process of this virus epidemic, compared with the general population, cancer patients are considered to be highly susceptible people, especially the lung cancer patients. Some studies have shown that angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) may be the pathway for SARS-CoV-2 to infect the host. At the same time, ACE2 is often abnormally expressed in non-small cell lung cancer. Therefore, understanding the respective mechanisms of ACE2 in COVID-19 and non-small cell lung cancer has extremely important reference value for the study of vaccines and therapeutic drugs, and also provides meaningful guidance for the protection of patients with lung cancer during the epidemic. This article reviews the possible invasive mechanism of ACE2 in SARS-CoV-2 and its abnormal expression in non-small cell lung cancer.

BackgroundIn order to implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and the Opinions on Promoting the Inheritance, Innovation and Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM), to regularly summarize the research results of TCM, to present the academic progress of TCM dynamically, and to give full play to the academic leadership of academic groups, the China Association of Chinese Medicine had organized the selection of the top 10 academic progress of TCM in 2022. The selection work adhered to the four orientations, eliminated the four only, highlighted the solution of clinical problems, answered scientific questions, led the development of the industry, reflected the exploratory and forward-looking, innovative and breakthrough, focused on new laws, new discoveries, new methods, new products, new theories in the field of basic research and applied basic research in TCM. After dynamic collection, preliminary examination, review and final judgment, the top 10 academic progress of TCM in 2022 were determined.

Background: Objectives were to investigate aspects of the COVID-19 epidemics via testing the individuals who were referred to Aramesh Medical Laboratory in Tehran and to integrate the molecular results with epidemiological data since the beginning of the epidemic. Methods: In this cross-sectional Study 77528 outpatients were referred to Aramesh Medical laboratory by physicians for the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection between March 2019 and May 2021. Viral acid nucleic extracted from nasal and throat specimens and subsequently amplified using Reverse Transcriptase Real-Time PCR. Laboratory data including Ct values compared with epidemic peaks of COVID-19 countrywide. Statistical Analysis was done by SPSS 21 Software. Results: 14312 (18.46%) tested positive.36.5% of the positive cases were in the 30 to 39 years old age group. The positive result rate was significantly different based on months, ranging from 6% to 28%, compatible with four recognized epidemic peaks encompassing the end of March through the first week of April (first epidemic peak), from June to July 2020 (second epidemic peak), October until mid of November 2020 (third epidemic wave) followed by the end of April to May 2021 (until the end period of study, in the middle of 4th peak). In 37.8% of cases, the Ct value was between 21 and 28. Two separate trends were seen for Ct ≤ 25 and Ct ≤ 20 for the first and fourth epidemic peaks, respectively. There was an association between the number of total monthly positive results and total deaths in the country, especially with the second to third peaks (in the course of summer 2020) and fourth epidemic peak. Conclusion: It might be useful to consider laboratory admission rates as an indicator for changes in the epidemic level in the country to continue the SARS-CoV-2 surveillance in accordance with public decision-makers.

Background: This study sought to investigate the surgical workflow and practical effects of infection prevention and control in specialist pediatric hospitals during the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic to provide a foundation for ensuring the safety of children and medical staff. Methods: The Guidelines for the Management of Surgical Procedures and Infection Prevention and Control of COVID-19 Pneumonia in Children were formulated according to the industry specifications and standards, the prevention and control work system for hospitals in China, and the experiences of the Chinese Nursing Association in infection prevention and control in the operating room. These guidelines focus on the characteristics of children, and provide management priorities in relation to personnel management, infection prevention and control during surgery, intraoperative safety, and the cooperation of medical staff teams. These operation management and prevention and control strategies were applied to children who were suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19. Results: The operation process and prevention and control measures were effectively implemented. During the epidemic, a total of 219 surgeries which patients' COVID-19 nucleic test result are not out were completed. No medical staff or nosocomial infection occurred during the surgeries. Conclusions: As a special group, children are susceptible to COVID-19, and should receive special attention. As the only hospital designated to treat children with COVID-19 in Hubei Province, our hospital effectively implemented the infection prevention and control measures in surgery according to the characteristics of children. These measures ensured the safety of the surgeries and reduced the risk of infection in children and medical staff.

The mortality rate of the recent global pandemic corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is currently as high as 7%. The SARS-CoV-2 virus is the culprit behind COVID-19. SARS-CoV-2 is an enveloped single-stranded RNA virus, the genome encodes four types of the structural proteins: S protein, E protein (envelope protein), M protein (matrix protein) and N protein (nucleocapsid protein). In COVID-19, monoclonal antibodies have played a significant role in diagnosis and treatment. This article briefly introduced the development of monoclonal antibodies targeting on S protein and N protein, which represents the main direction of monoclonal antibody drugs used in the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19. Meanwhile, the traditional Chinese medicine also plays important role in the fight against COVID-19 by regulating human immunity. The article introduced the use of traditional Chinese medicine in fighting against COVID-19.

Background: Initially, novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) was considered primarily a respiratory pathogen. However, with time it has behaved as a virus with the potential to cause multi-system involvement, including neurological manifestations which varies from acute to subacute onset of headache, seizures, a decrease of consciousness, and paralysis. Case description: Two cases of cerebral sinus venous thrombosis in COVID-19 patients were reported, following respiratory disorders, which was triggered by the SARS-CoV-2 infection. The first patient, presented with a decrease in level of consciousness and hemiparesis, was 23 years old female having no history of previous medical co-morbidities. The latter case, 21 years old woman showed less severe presentations of COVID-19 associated with headache, vomiting and papilledema. These two cases marvellously improved with no neurological deficit with aggressive course of anticoagulation. Conclusion: CVST should be suspected in COVID-19 patients presenting with headache, paralysis, aphasia or seizures. The high mortality rate of CVST in COVID-19 infection warrants a high index of suspicion from physicians, and early treatment with anticoagulation should be initiated.

We report a rare case of bilateral central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) after COVID-19 management with steroids. The patient was a 49-year-old female who presented with bilateral blurred vision three months after the COVID-19 infection. She had been treated with intravenous Remdesivir and Dexamethasone. After her recovery from the disease, she developed gradual visual impairment in both her eyes. Upon examinations and optical coherence tomography, bilateral CSCR was revealed. She was treated with eplerenone (25 mg/day) and propranolol (20 mg/day), and the symptoms were improved after two months. Post-COVID-19 associated CSCR can occur due to steroids administration. Therefore, patients and physicians should be aware of these possible complications and seek an ophthalmology consultation as early as possible.

Purpose of Review: Severe-acute respiratory coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causing corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been the single most important pathogen driving health care delivery system for the last one and half years. Now, as the time is passing, many issues related to co-infections/secondary infections/superinfections in COVID-19 patients are emerging. The literature is getting enriched everyday by addition of reports from all over the world for the same. The purpose of this review is to decipher the plethora of fungal infections in COVID-19. Recent Findings: COVID-19 infection along with it brought many risk factors namely lung injury, immunosuppression, need for oxygen therapy, monoclonal antibodies, steroid therapy, etc. which are known predisposing factors for fungal infections. Rather the extent and severity of fungal pathogens has been so much that it has led to new terminologies like CAC (COVID-19-associated Candida), CAPA (COVID-19-associated pulmonary aspergillosis) and CAM (COVID-19-associated mucormycosis). There is increase in invasiveness of Candida, prevalence of aspergillosis in COVID-19 damaged lung and outbreak of mucormycosis in COVID-19 patients resulting in "double trouble," keeping laboratory personnel, clinicians, and intensivists on their toes in managing these patients. Summary: Awareness and understanding regarding these possible complications is necessary to decrease the morbidity and mortality among patients. The COVID-19 and fungal coinfections may bring more insight into ways of pathogenesis of fungal infections, need for better antifungal agents, quick diagnostic modalities, and better management policies in the near future.
