RESUMO

The blood cell count is often examined in routine clinical praxis. Physiologic leucocyte count is in range 4-10 × 109 in liter of blood. Abnormal values of leukocytes and subtypes of leukocytes in differential count are often present. Changes in leukocytes counts are caused by variety of benignant or malignant conditions. It is important in clinical praxis to interpret changes in blood cell count correctly and choose adequate approach in investigation process. In general, leukocytosis and leukocytopenia may present in primary hematologic disorder or secondary/reactive states, caused by reaction of hematopoiesis to underlying condition. This article review common causes of leukocytosis or leucopenia and give basic advice how to investigate patients with changes in leukocytes count.

RESUMO

Based on our previous results, which confirmed the role of latent gammaherpesvirus infection in alteration of immune homeostasis, we studied the influence of simultaneous infection with gammaherpes and influenza viruses on selected parameters of innate immunity, particularly on the subpopulations of peripheral blood cell leukocytes. The aim was to analyze changes of differential blood cell count of BALB/c mice persistently infected with murine gammaherpesvirus 68 (MHV-68) and subsequently co-infected with influenza A virus (IAV), in comparison to mice infected with MHV-68 or with IAV only. Our results showed that ongoing gammaherpesvirus latency in mice caused a decreased number of leukocytes after acute infection with IAV in comparison to a single acute IAV infection. However, increased proportion of neutrophils was measured in peripheral blood of IAV- infected and co-infected mice. Dual infection had no effect on the proportion of monocytes or basophilic and eosinophilic granulocytes. The number of atypical lymphocytes, usually accompanying the persistent infection with MHV-68, decreased in co-infected mice as a consequence of the acute infection with IAV. Persistent infection with gammaherpesvirus may thus modulate the host immune response to influenza A virus and the acute IAV infection can influence the immune homeostasis established by latent MHV-68 infection.

RESUMO

Objective To understand the effects of chemoradiotherapy combined with radiotherapy on peripheral differential blood cell counts on tumor patients. Methods 40 patients receiving concurrent chemoradiotherapy were randomly selected in the radiotherapy department in our hospital.Peripheral blood WBC,PLT radiotherapy for 1-4 weeks were retrospective analysis. Results The first 1-4 week of radiotherapy, peripheral blood cells of WBC,PLT decreased. The difference was statistically significant (WBC:x2 =16.902,P =0.001,PLT:x2 =8.492,P =0.037),and obviously in the second week. Conclusion Tumor radiotherapy decreases blood cell counting and classification in the WBC,PLT,and obviously in the second week.
