Eosinophilic panniculitis triggered by arthropod bites in chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Skin findings are common among patients with hematological malignancies and are thought to be expressions of a reactive spectrum peculiar to immunosuppressed patients with an unclear pathogenesis. Eosinophilic panniculitis is a reaction pattern defined by single or multiple lesions consisting in nodules and plaques, and sometimes in papules and pustules, characteristically associated to hematological neoplasms or to a series of benign conditions such as arthropod bites. We report a case of eosinophilic panniculitis occurring in a 77-year-old woman with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Our case is remarkable as the histology of panniculitis was associated with a clinical evidence of dermal papules and a history of insect bites.

Gnatostomiasis una enfermedad cada vez más frecuente en Colombia / Gnathostomiasis an increasingly common disease in Colombia

Resumen La tríada clásica de viaje al Sudeste asiático u a otras áreas endémicas donde se consumen mariscos crudos o mal cocidos, acompañado de paniculitis y eosinofilia periférica, debe alertar al médico sobre una entidad conocida como gnatostomiasis, una infección parasitaria causada por la tercera larva del nemátodo Gnathostoma spp, que generalmente se ve en zonas tropicales y subtropicales. Afecta principalmente la piel, y de allí, puede migrar a tejidos profundos, llegando a comprometer órganos como pulmón, ojos, oídos, tracto gastrointestinal y genitourinario, y menos frecuente el sistema nervioso central. Se presenta el caso de un paciente con cuadro de tres días de evolución consistente en edema, eritema, calor, prurito y dolor en región pectoral izquierda, con la posterior formación de vesícula sobre la lesión inicial y un trayecto lineal eritematoso e indurado sobre la tetilla izquierda; luego del consumo de langostinos en la costa colombiana. Con el antecedente epidemiológico, los hallazgos clínicos e histológicos se hizo el diagnóstico de gnatostomiasis y se realizó manejo exitoso con albendazol.

Abstract The classic triad travel to Southeast Asia or to other endemic areas where raw or undercooked seafood, panniculitis and peripheral eosinophilia are consumed, should alert the physician to an entity known as gnathostomiasis, a parasitic infection caused by the third larva of the nematode Gnathostoma spp, usually seen in tropical and subtropical areas. It mainly affects the skin, and from there, you can migrate to deeper tissues, reaching compromise organs like lungs, eyes, ears, gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts, and less frequent central nervous system. For a patient with three-day box consisting in high swelling, redness, warmth, itching and pain in the left pectoral region, with the subsequent formation of vesicle on the initial injury linear path and an erythematous indurated occurs on the teat left; after consumption of shrimp on the Colombian coast. With the epidemiological history, clinical and histological findings were diagnosed as gnathostomiasis, management began with albendazole presenting picture resolution.

Panniculitis: A summary.

The diagnosis of panniculitis is felt to be a confusing topic by some pathologists. This summarical article presents inflammatory diseases of the subcutis in a systematic fashion, based on whether they are centered on fibrovascular septa or the adipose lobules, and whether morphologic vasculitis is present or not. Septocentric, non-vasculitis disorders include erythema nodosum, panniculitis that follows the use of "biological" therapeutic agents, lipodermatosclerosis, post-irradiation panniculitis, morphea profunda, and necrobiosis lipodica profunda. Polyarteritis nodosa and Behçet's disease are the conditions that are based in the subcutaneous septa with vasculitis. Predominantly-lobular panniculitides with no vasculitis include pancreatogenic panniculitis, the panniculitis of alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency, panniculitis associated with lupus erythematosus and dermatomyositis, subcutaneous Sweet syndrome, eosinophilic panniculitis, factitial panniculitis, cold panniculitis, panniculitis following injections of corticosteroids, lipomembranous (ischemic) panniculitis; sclerema neonatorum and subcutaneous fat necrosis of the newborn, and Rosai-Dorfman disease of the subcutis. Erythema induratum and infectious panniculitis are vasculitic and lobulocentric conditions. This article reviews the histological features of these diseases.

Eosinophilic panniculitis in a female child: An unusual presentation.

Eosinophilic panniculitis (EP) is characterized by prominent infiltration of subcutaneous fat with eosinophils. The etiology is diverse. This is not a disease but represents a reaction pattern that may occur in a variety of circumstances. The exact pathogenesis of the disease is still unclear. We present the case of a 6-year-old girl child who was diagnosed with EP.

Miasis cutánea migratoria: reporte de un caso / Migratory cutaneous miasis: case report

La miasis es una infestación de vertebrados por diferentes tipos de moscas, en cuanto a la cutánea se hanreportado casos principalmente en el norte de Perú siendo los más frecuentes los causados por Cochliomya hominivorax y Dermatobia hominis, las de heridas y las forunculares respectivamente. Se presenta a continuación un caso de Miasis migratoria cutánea en un paciente proveniente de Piura(norte del Perú)con eosinofilia marcada y se realiza una breve revisión del tema.

The miasis is a infestación of vertebrates by different types from flies, in whatever to the cutaneous one have reported cases mainly in the north of Peru being most frequent caused by Cochliomya hominivorax and Dermatobia hominis, those of hurt and foruncularesrespectively. A case of cutaneous migratory Miasis in an originating patient of Piura (North of Peru) with eosinofilia appears to continuation marked and a brief revision of the subject is made.

A Case of Sparganosis with Eosinophilic Panniculitis in a Patient with Rectal Cancer / 대한피부과학회지

Sparganosis is an infection by sparganum, the generic term for the migrating plerocercoid larva of a tapeworm of the species Spirometra. The clinical appearance of sparganosis is usually a soft palpable, sometimes migratory, subcutaneous nodule, and microscopically, an elongated tract-like cavity, with or without a parasite body associated with eosinophilic infiltration, may be seen. Herein we present a case of sparganosis with eosinophilic panniculitis, which developed in a patient who had suffered from rectal adenocarcinoma about 5- months before presenting to our department with the skin lesion.

A Case of Eosinophilic Panniculitis Accompanied with Nodal Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma / 대한피부과학회지

Eosinophilic panniculitis(EP) is characterized by a prominent infiltration of subcutaneous fat with eosinophils. However, EP is a histopathologic pattern or reactive process rather than a distinct disease entity. It has been identified in patients who have a variety of associated clinical conditions. We report a case of a 37-year-old woman with EP on her abdominal region. Due to the pertinent clinical and laboratory investigation to rule out an accompanied systemic process, we found nodal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Although there have been several reports about the cases of EP in Korea, until now no case of EP accompanied with nodal lymphoma had yet been reported.

A case of eosinophilic panniculitis diagnosed in the lower extremity skin lesions with tenderness / 천식및알레르기

Eosinophilic panniculitis is characterized by prominent infiltration of eosinophils in the subcutaneous fat. Clinically it may be considered as a reactive process because most patients have an associated systemic condition. We report a case of tender subcutaneous nodules and plaques with erythema on the lower legs in a 30-year-old man with blood eosinophilia. The histologic features were characterized by massive eosinophilic infiltration in the septae and lobule in the parenchymal area of subcutaneous tissues. Despite exhaustive investigation, no obvious trigger of the panniculitis could be identified. The cutaneous lesions regressed and the eosinophil count became normal during the seven days course of treatment with intravenous corticosteroid. Another flare-up occurred about one month after treatment. The patient is presently being treated with prolonged use of alternate-day steroid without recurrence.

A Case of Sparganosis with Eosinophilic Panniculitis

Sparganosis is an infection caused by the migrating larvae of the cestode genus Spirometra. The most common clinical presentation of a sparganosis is a slow-growing, sometimes migratory, sub-cutaneous mass. In this report, a case of eosinophilic panniculitis by sparganum in a Korean woman is presented. The diagnosis was confirmed from the histopathologic findings, the micro-ELISA tests and a living sparganum derived from the patient while excising the new lesion

A Case of Eosinophilic Panniculitis Associated With Superior Sagittal Sinus Thrombosis

Eosinophilic panniculitis is characterized by a prominent infiltration of numerous eosinophils in subcutaneous fat, and has been identified in patients with a variety of associated clinical conditions. A case of eosinophilic panniculitis in a 20-year-old woman with a history of atopic dermatitis is reported. She later developed superior sagittal sinus thrombosis, and we stress the importance of systemic evaluations in patients with eosinophilic panniculitis.
