RESUMO

AIM: We analysed whether immediate skin-to-skin contact between the healthy newborn and the mother after a caesarean section has a modulatory role on postpartum haemorrhage and uterine contraction. DESIGN: Unblinded, randomized clinical trial, simple random sampling, conducted in women undergoing caesarean sections. METHODS: Of the population identified, the caesarean section total (N = 359), 23.2% (N = 83) met the inclusion criteria: scheduled caesarean section, accepting skin-to-skin contact, good level of consciousness. They were randomly allocated to the intervention group, skin-to-skin contact (N = 40), and to the control group, usual procedure (N = 40). There were three losses. Clinical variables: plasma haemoglobin, uterine contraction, breastfeeding, postoperative pain, were measured, and subjective variables: maternal satisfaction, comfort, comparison with previous caesarean section and newborn crying. RESULTS: Women with skin-to-skin contact had greater uterine contraction after caesarean section. The maternal plasma haemoglobin levels at discharge were significantly higher. It was associated with higher breastfeeding rate, satisfaction, comfort levels and with less maternal pain and less crying in the newborn.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Moringa Oleifera leaves contain nutrients such as proteins, iron, and vitamin C that potentially prevent anemia more common in pregnant women. In the manufacture of cookies that are substituted Moringa Oleifera leaf flour substitution, 40% obtained Fe levels 22.68ppm so that it can be developed to prevent anemia. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of giving biscuits (cookies) Moringa Oleifera leaf flour to index erythrocytes (MCH, MCHC, MCV) of pregnant women with anemia. METHOD: It was a quasi-experiment research with design nonequivalent Control Group design. The research was conducted at Antang, Mamajang, and Batua Public Health Center in Makassar, examination of hematology analyzer in the Clinic Pathology Laboratory of Universitas Hasanuddin Hospital. Sampling techniques using purposive sampling. Samples were pregnant women with trimester I and III anemia amounted to 25 samples on the biscuit moringa group and 25 samples in the control group. Data were analyzed using test Paired T-Test, T-Test Independent, Wilcoxon, and Mann - U Withney. RESULT: Characteristics of age, gestational age, income, physical activity, education, and parity of both groups has been comparable before the treatment with the value p>0.05, with most of the samples aged 20-35 years having a pregnancy age of 4-8 weeks, income IDR 1 million - IDR. 2 million, activity score Baecke 6.00-7.25, Senior High School education, parity >1. A significant average increase in the value of MCH from 27.55 to 28.00 and MCV from 78.57 to 78.93 in the group provided biscuits (cookies) of Moringa Oleifera leaf flour with p-value <0.05, in the control group, occurred an average but insignificant increase with p-value >0.05. The MCHC Group control and biscuit moringa group had an average increase, but both were not statistically significant, p>0.05. There is a significant difference in increased MCH and MCV erythrocyte indices between the biscuit moringa and control groups with a p-value <0.05. As for the MCHC value, the two groups do not differ meaningfully with p-value=0.611, p>0.005. CONCLUSION: There is the effect of giving biscuits (cookies) Moringa Oleifera leaf Flour Against the index of erythrocytes MCH and MCV in pregnant women with anemia. However, it has no effect on the MCHC value of pregnant women with anemia. It is recommended for pregnant women to utilize local plants, the Moringa Oleifera leaves to fulfill the intake of nutrients that can help pregnant women from anemia.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Inflammation and vascular dysregulation may contribute to the development of depression and impose a burden on erythropoiesis. This study aimed to identify the association of erythrocyte indices with the severity of depressive symptoms and risk of developing depressive disorders in the older people. DESIGN: A prospective cohort study on a randomly sampled Korean older population; the baseline assessment from 2010 to 2012, the first follow-up assessment from 2012 to 2014, and the second follow-up assessment from 2014 to 2016 (mean follow-up duration = 3.4 years). SETTING: A nationwide and community-based cohort. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 4451 Koreans aged 60 years or older. METHODS: We examined the associations of the values and changes in mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) with the risk of prevalent and incident depression using logistic regression analyses. RESULTS: High MCH and MCHC in female participants and high MCHC in male participants were associated with high geriatric depression scale scores and risk of prevalent depression. In female participants, high- and middle-MCH tertile groups showed a 2.68- and 2.34-fold higher risk of incident depression than did the low tertile group. In male participants, the high-MCH tertile group showed a 1.79-fold higher risk of incident depression than did the low tertile group. In both sexes, the participants whose MCV changed to the high or middle tertile or remained in the high or middle tertile during the follow-up period, and whose MCH increased to the high tertile or remained in the high tertile, were at a higher risk of incident depression. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS: Changes in erythrocyte may be associated with the risk of depression in older adults. This prospective study proposes a new perspective of the old hematologic parameters for understanding the pathophysiology of late-life depression.

RESUMO

Objective To study the hemorheology,platelet-activating and hemostasis of severe asphyxiated newborns. Methods Erythrocyte filtration index(IF) ,granule membrane glycoprotein (GMP-140),D-dimer(DD) and yon Willebrand factor(vWF) were measured in 60 severe asphyxiated term newborns and 20 healthy term newborns. The effect of platelet-activating-factor (PAF) antagonist-EGb761 were also obserred. 60 term newborns with severe asphyxia were divided into two groups :treatment group(n= 30) and control group(n = 30). Results During the first day of life the IF,GMP-140,vWF and DD of the severe asphyxiated newborns increased significantly compared with those of healthy newborns(P0.05). Conclusion 1. Severe asphyx iated newborns vary in hemorheology,platelet-activating and hemostasis, which leads to disturbance of microcirculation and organ injury. 2. PAF plays a role in the pathophysiologic process, and PAF antagonist can improve the microcirculation of severe asphyxiated newborns.
