RESUMO

There is growing recognition that many people feel the need to regulate their use of the internet and other digital technologies to support their wellbeing. In this study, we used Mozilla Firefox browser telemetry to investigate the role played by various usage factors in desires to regulate time spent online. In particular, we investigated how six metrics pertaining to time spent on the internet, and the diversity and intensity of use, predict participants' (n = 8,094) desires to spend more or less time online. Across all six metrics, we did not find evidence for a relationship between browser usage metrics and participants wanting to spend more or less time online. This finding was robust across various analytical pathways. The study highlights a number of considerations and concerns that need to be addressed in future industry-academia collaborations that draw on trace data or usage telemetry.

Introducción: la gestión del conocimiento en las organizaciones es limitada, si la gestión personal de este no es jerarquizada. Adoptar nuevas habilidades y hábitos en el manejo de las herramientas informáticas que facilitan la gestión del conocimiento en el ámbito personal es indispensable para la posterior socialización de ese conocimiento a toda la organización. Objetivos: crear e implementar un procedimiento, por medio de Firefox y sus complementos, que mejore la eficiencia del proceso de gestión personal del conocimiento al navegar por la Web. Métodos: se empleó el método descriptivo para analizar las dificultades que algunas personas presentan al navegar y gestionar conocimiento desde la Web y el método del análisis documental para investigar si existen soluciones a las dificultades encontradas. Resultados: se implementó un procedimiento, que mediante un conjunto seleccionado de complementos que se integran al navegador Firefox, mejora la rapidez y la eficiencia del proceso de gestión del conocimiento personal desde la Web. Conclusiones: la gestión del conocimiento personal es de vital interés para las organizaciones, ya que el intercambio y socialización de ese conocimiento adquirido, le permitirá a la institución apropiarse de esos conocimientos y apoyar los procesos docentes, investigativos y de innovación tecnológica. Ante la inmensa cantidad de conocimiento a adquirir y analizar, es necesario prever la adopción de nuevas habilidades y hábitos en el uso de herramientas informáticas que permitan ejecutar el proceso de gestión del conocimiento personal desde la Web, con rapidez y eficiencia(AU)

Adopting new skills and habits in the management of computer tools that facilitate the management of knowledge in the personal sphere is essential for the subsequent socialization of this knowledge throughout the organization. Objectives: To create and implement a procedure, by Firefox and its add-ons, that improves the efficiency of the personal knowledge management process when browsing the web. Methods: The descriptive method was used to analyze the difficulties that some people present when navigating and managing knowledge from the web; and the method of documentary analysis was used to investigate if there is any solution to the difficulties found. Results: A procedure was implemented, which, through a selected set of add-ons that integrate with the browser Firefox, improves the speed and efficiency of personal knowledge management process in the web. Conclusions: Personal knowledge management is of vital interest to organizations, since the exchange and socialization of this knowledge will enable the institution to appropriate this knowledge and support teaching, research and technological innovation processes. Given the great amount of knowledge to be acquired and analyzed, it is necessary to foresee the adoption of new skills and habits in the use of computer tools that allow the quick and efficient performance of the personal knowledge management process in the web(AU)

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this phase II study was to explore the efficacy and safety of an alternating regimen consisting of folinic acid, 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and oxaliplatin (mFOLFOX6) plus bevacizumab, and folinic acid, 5-FU and irinotecan (FOLFIRI) plus bevacizumab as first-line treatment for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. METHODS: Fifty-two patients with metastatic colorectal cancer received an alternating regimen consisting of four cycles of mFOLFOX6 plus bevacizumab followed by four cycles of FOLFIRI plus bevacizumab until disease progression. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival. RESULTS: The median age was 60 years (range 37-75 years). Median progression-free survival was 14.2 months (95 % confidence interval [CI] 10.6-16.3) and median overall survival was 28.4 months (95 % CI 22.6-39.1). The overall response rate was 60.0 % (95 % CI 45.2-73.6). Regarding toxicity, the commonest grade 3-4 hematological adverse events were neutropenia (34.6 %) and leukopenia (7.7 %), and the commonest grade 3-4 non-hematological adverse events were anorexia (13.5 %), fatigue (9.6 %), nausea (9.6 %), and vomiting (9.6 %). Bevacizumab-related grade 3-4 adverse events included hypertension (1.9 %) and thrombosis (1.9 %). CONCLUSIONS: An alternating regimen consisting of mFOLFOX6 plus bevacizumab and FOLFIRI plus bevacizumab is an effective and well-tolerated first-line chemotherapy combination for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer.

RESUMO

Con la aparición de las prácticas basadas en la evidencia, se hace cada día más necesario permanecer actualizado con los avances que tiene nuestra profesión en sus diversas áreas. Lo anterior supone poder acceder a las fuentes primarias de esta información, como son los journals, los que muchas veces al ser de pago implican una gran barrera para su acceso, afortunadamente gracias una iniciativa de CONICYT y CINCEL las universidades chilenas cuentan con acceso a la mayoría de los principales journals en todas las áreas del conocimientos a través de la Biblioteca Electrónica de Información Científica (BEIC-Chile). El objetivo de este artículo es mostrar una forma sencilla, gratuita y basada en la web para el manejo de las suscripciones que podemos tener a los journals de nuestro interés, exponiendo el uso de la plataforma Google Reader y las extensiones Google Reader Watcher y FoxyProxy del navegador Mozilla Firefox, tanto para su uso específico en BEIC-Chile, como así otras posibles aplicaciones de estos recursos al interior de las instalaciones universitarias y fuera de ellas. Es necesario conocer y aplicar las diversas herramientas tecnológicas con las que contamos en la actualidad, así como también aprovechar plataformas como BEIC-Chile, las que nos permiten entregar prestaciones de mejor calidad a nuestros pacientes.


With the advent of evidence-based practices, it becomes increasingly necessary being updated with the progress that has our profession in its various areas. This means access to primary sources of this information, such as journals, which often suposse a big barrier to access due to payment policies, fortunately through an initiative of CONICYT and CINCEL, the chilean universities have access to most important journals in all areas of knowledge through the ElectronicLibrary of Scientific Information (BEIC-Chile). The aim of this paper is to show a simple, free, web-based management for subscriptions to the journals we have in our interest, exposing the case of the platform Google Reader and the Mozilla Firefox extensions: Google Reader Watcher and FoxyProxy, for their specific use in BEIC-Chile, as well as other possible applications of these resources within the university facilities and outside them. It is necessary to know and implement the several technological tools that we have now, as well as platforms like BEIC-Chile, which allow us to deliver better quality services to our patients.
