RESUMO

The shock of reality that nursing students face when they start out will affect the nursing profession even more in the future, as it faces a recruitment crisis in the midst of renewal. Restoring meaning to the nursing profession is a complex and daunting challenge. By providing access to scientific literature, the bibliography group can contribute to this, based on an Evidence-Based Nursing approach. This initiative, which is beneficial for professionals whose skills development is thus encouraged, is designed to be simple and accessible to as many people as possible.

RESUMO

The parents of a baby hospitalized in a neonatal unit are confronted with the trauma of premature birth. L'Atelier créa, a creatively-mediated peer group, was designed to give them a space in which to meet and share their experiences. It's a time for talking, imagining and dreaming about the baby. This group is also a form of passage, taking the place of ritual, allowing access to the parent-baby triad, in this sometimes so inhospitable universe.

RESUMO

Supporting children of affected parents by cancer is challenging whether for patients, families and healthcare teams. Several care methods have been developed to support these children (e.g. individual psychological support, support group). However, professionals may feel uncomfortable with their own theoretical and practical limits. Thus, pair working physician/psychologist can make sense in order to melt the different expertise and to provide advices, open discussion and remediation in the family behaviors and feelings. The aim is to help parents communicate with their children about the disease in order to respond appropriately to the child's needs and questions. Our study is observational, around five clinical situations. We deal with parental psychological function, family communication, marital function, and parent-child relationship… Most of the time, children of cancer patients live a stressful experience with major psycho-emotional impact. Inappropriate coping mechanism can be subjected to misperception and lack of interaction with their parents. The question often expressed is the balance between telling the truth and protecting children. However, studies have reported positive effects of interventions around children needs. Thus, the doctor-psychologist pair allows for adaptability of responses to family functioning, children and parents, and thus ensures holistic support for the patient with cancer.

RESUMO

This article aims to present the interdisciplinary project "My Story from Silence", conceived in 2022. The project represents a pioneering effort in assembling individuals from diverse communities, characterized by varying ethnic, national, and migratory backgrounds, along a historically dynamic border. Its primary objective was to provide a platform for these participants to articulate and share narratives previously shrouded in silence, offering insights into their historical pasts. Emphasizing reciprocal dialogue for the first time, the initiative fostered an environment where participants engaged in the dual act of narrating their own experiences and attentively listening to the narratives of others. These memories were explored in group workshops on both sides of the border. By combining elements of cultural anthropology fieldwork and analytical psychology, the workshops attempted to address hitherto unaddressed traumas and silent personal memories linked to major traumatic historical events such as fascism and Istrian exodus through the narratives of individuals. Three vignettes will illustrate the workshop dynamic and our Jungian understanding of it.

This paper reflects on the concepts of transference and countertransference in articulation with the clinical dimension of the observer's place in therapeutic groups. After a brief historical overview of these concepts in psychoanalysis, the notion of transference is discussed as a link that can manifest itself via bodily and sensorially. Countertransference, in turn, will be analyzed based on intersubjectivity. These aspects will be illustrated by two clinical vignettes

RESUMO

As a complex pathology, anorexia nervosa interacts with the psychological challenges of pregnancy, and raises questions about how to support the women concerned. As part of a multidisciplinary approach, support groups are particularly important, offering both individual and social support. Child-parent drop-in centers can also provide a supportive space for the psychological work of parenting.

RESUMO

Welcoming migrant families into an early childhood unit forces professionals to reflect on their clinical practices. When faced with parents with whom the therapeutic alliance is hard to establish and with children with developmental delays, a psychologist and a childcare assistant turn to transcultural psychology to find adapted tools. This text presents the reflections, the set up and the beginning of a parent-child therapeutic group.

RESUMO

We report on two preliminary evaluations of a group intervention, targeting vulnerable infants and their mothers within the first 6-months postpartum. The Mother-Baby Nurture® program aims to strengthen the developing infant-mother attachment relationship by increasing maternal mentalizing. These studies were undertaken with pre-post evaluations with the mothers of infants under 10-months of age. The mother-infant dyads participated in ten 2-h group sessions. Study one (N = 69 dyads) included self-reported maternal depression, anxiety, and parenting confidence. In study two (N = 27 dyads), parenting stress and reflective functioning were measured by self-report, and reflective functioning coded on the 5 min speech sample (completed by N = 22). Results from study one confirmed a decrease in depression (p < .001, d = .79) and anxiety (p < .001, d = .72) symptoms, and an increase in mothers' scores for parenting confidence (p < .001, d = -.98). Results from Study Two demonstrated a significant decrease in parenting stress (p < .001, d = .94) and significant improvement in measures of self-report reflective functioning (p = .007, .024; d = .56, .61). These findings are preliminary yet promising indications that this program could be effective in alleviating parenting stress, depression, and anxiety, and improving mother's reflective functioning and parenting confidence. Further research is needed, with a control group and long-term follow-up assessments.

The hospital environment is changing profoundly and is the terrain of a strong emotional charge that can generate a significant psychosocial risk. Long perceived as irrational and non-productive, emotions today tend to appear as a resource to professional dynamics. On a daily basis, the study of emotions and group phenomena opens the field of conscious and benevolent management in favor of a collective dynamic.

RESUMO

The stressful nature of parenting infants exacerbates the characteristics of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Consequently, mothers with BPD tend to be emotionally dysregulated, respond impulsively to their infants, and have poorer mother-infant relationships. Few parenting interventions target the specific skill deficits observed in mothers with BPD. This study explored the differences in parental reflective functioning (PRF) and mother-infant relationship quality at baseline and following a 24-week, group parenting intervention for mothers with BPD. PRF and mother-infant relationship quality were assessed from quantitative (N = 23) and qualitative (N = 32) perspectives. Quantitative data (Parental Reflective Functioning Questionnaire) showed a significant improvement in one of the three subscales, Interest and Curiosity, between baseline and post-intervention, and a significant moderate positive association between the subscale Certainty of Mental States and maternal-infant interaction quality post-intervention. Improvements in mother-infant relationship quality were not evident from the observational measure, Nursing Child Assessment Satellite Teaching scale. In contrast, semi-structured interview qualitative data found maternal improvements in parental reflection, coping strategies implemented post-intervention, and quality of mother-infant relationships. Overwhelmingly positive intervention feedback suggested perceived maternal benefits of group format and skills taught. Future studies with larger sample sizes would allow further clarification of such parenting interventions for mothers with BPD.

Attachment security provides a well-documented protective developmental function for children exposed to individual- and community-level trauma, yet the effectiveness of prevention and intervention efforts targeting attachment during adolescence has been relatively underexplored. The Connecting and Reflecting Experience (CARE) program is a transdiagnostic, bi-generational, group-based, mentalizing-focused parenting intervention developed to dismantle the intergenerational transmission of trauma and support secure attachment relationships across the developmental spectrum within an under-resourced community. This exploratory study evaluated outcomes among caregiver-adolescent dyads (N = 32) in the CARE condition of a nonrandomized clinical trial at an outpatient mental health clinic within a diverse, urban U.S. community with disproportionate trauma exposure exacerbated by COVID-19. Caregivers predominantly identified as Black/African/African American (47%), Hispanic/Latina (38%), and/or White (19%). At pre- and post-intervention, caregivers completed questionnaires regarding parental mentalizing and their adolescents' psychosocial functioning. Adolescents completed scales regarding attachment and psychosocial functioning. Results showed a significant decrease in caregivers' prementalizing on the Parental Reflective Functioning Questionnaire, improvement in adolescent psychosocial functioning on the Youth Outcomes Questionnaire, and an increase in adolescents' reports of attachment security on the Security Scale. These preliminary findings suggest that mentalizing-focused parenting interventions may be effective in fostering improved attachment security and psychosocial functioning during adolescence.

Background. Chronic pain impacts people's activity participation, productivity, mental health, and sense of wellbeing. Purpose. This study aimed to (1) evaluate the feasibility of the Mindfulness-Based Chronic Pain Management (MBCPMTM) program on reducing pain perception and enhancing the quality of life, and (2) understand veterans' experience with the program. Method. The pretest-posttest single-group, mixed-methods design was used. Thirty-one veterans were offered the 12-week intervention. The Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS) and the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System-29 were administered before and after the program. Focus groups and individual interviews were conducted to understand the experience. Findings. Participants' PCS scores improved (Z = -3.116, p = .002), but the pain intensity did not change significantly. Themes from qualitative data include: (1) We are not alone! (2) I have a sense of awareness, choices, and control; and (3) It does work! Implications. The study shows preliminary feasibility of MBCPMTM for veterans. This promising effect supports future rigorous testing of this intervention.

RESUMO

Purpose: To analyze long-term oncological outcome after 2nd conservative treatment (2ndCT) for patients with ipsilateral 2nd ipsilateral breast tumor event (2ndIBTE). Materials/methods: In this retrospective observational study (N°F20210402152843), patients with 2ndIBTE underwent 2ndCT (lumpectomy + tumor bed re-irradiation). 3rdIBTE (3rdIBTE-FS), regional relapse- (RRFS) and metastatic disease- (MD-FS) free survivals as well as disease-free (DFS), specific (SS) and overall (OS) survival were analyzed. Late toxicity was reported. Results: Between 09/2000 and 04/2022, 244 patients presented a 2ndIBTE and underwent a 2ndCT. Among them, 113 pts with a minimum follow-up of 60 months were analyzed. Median time interval between 1st and 2ndIBTE was 13.5 years [2-35]. Median 2ndIBTE age was 66.2 years [31-85]. 2ndIBTE were adenocarcinomas (77 %). Tumor size was < 20 mm (86.7 %). 2ndIBTE were grade 1/2 (75 %), with positive hormonal receptor (85 %) and clear surgical margins (no ink on tumor, 90.3 %). In the APBI classification, 21 pts were high-risk (18.6 %), while 77 % were Luminal A/BHer2-. With a MFU of 121.5 months [CI95% 111.7-129.6], 10-year 3rdIBTE-FS was 89 % [83-96]. Then-year RRFS, MDFS, DFS, SS and OS were 94 % [89-100], 89 % [83-96], 78 % [70-87], 95 % [91-100] and 94 % [90 -99] respectively. In multivariate analysis, APBI classification (high-risk; HR2.66 [1.01-7.1], p = 0.049) and tumor size (≥20 mm; HR2.64 [1.02-6.8], p = 0.045) were considered independent prognostic factors for DFS.Ninety-seven late complications were observed (fibrosis 64 %) with 6.2 % G ≥ 3 late toxicity. Cosmetic outcome was excellent/good in 91.2 %. Conclusions: With long follow-up, 2ndIBTE managed with 2ndCT allows second breast preservation without oncological outcome compromise and acceptable G ≥ 3 toxicity.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Several authors have suggested an association between the ABO system (ABOS) and the risk of SARS CoV-2 infection. The objective of the present study was to identify the susceptibility of ABOS blood groups to COVID-19 at the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) of Mali. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This was an unpaired case-control study. The cases (402) were COVID-19 patients, and the controls (5438) were Muslim pilgrims, all of whom had undergone ABO blood grouping at the INSP. Logistic regression was performed to identify factors associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection status using SPSS version25 software. RESULTS: Blood types had the following frequencies: O(34%), B(30%), A(28%), AB(8%) for cases and O(42%), B(27%), A(25%), AB(6%) for controls. COVID-19 positive status was not significantly associated with blood groups A(oR=1.17; CI95%[0.93-1.47]), B(OR=1.11; CI95%[0.89-1.39]) and AB(OR=1.41; CI95%[0.97-2.06]). However, blood group O subjects were 28 times less likely to have COVID-19 than non-O(OR=0.72; CI95%[0.58-0.89). CONCLUSION: The results show that blood group O individuals were less likely to have SARS CoV-2 infection than non-O individuals. This should not affect the use of barrier measures in ABOS groups.

RESUMO

Teamwork, an essential component of quality care, is not always self-evident. Working together requires trust and shared objectives. As part of their preparation for the health service, aiming at learning to work in project mode, it is proposed to nursing students in their second year of training to use a pedagogical tool, the coat of arms, to work on group dynamics and the sharing of common values. The aim is to bring the team to give life to its collective identity, in the service of the implementation of its project, based on the individual characteristics of each of its members.

In this article we resume a trajectory that Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari followed, especially in The anti-Oedipus (1972), to show how capitalism operates by axiomatizing desiring flows in a way that centralizes on private property all the deterritorialization of the subjective processes. Unique reterritorialization is also the modus operandi of psychoanalysis which has Oedipus as its structure, indicate the authors. Here we bring cinema as a third event of the late 19th century in which a linguistic and representational order comes to contain the inventions of spaces and times of its early years. Finally, we turn to artistic practice and clinical processes which, with the cinema, take up the ways of making images and oneself, which place cinema as a form that thinks We present and discuss cinema in the clinical processes, retaking the desiring flows and their possibilities of finding multiple reterritorializations in artworks and existential territories.

RESUMO

Climate change is a threat to global ecosystems, societies and psychological well-being. As a collectively driven phenomena, I argue that it requires collective responses and action. In order to ease the trauma of awakening to, and engaging with, climate and ecological breakdown, I suggest that individuals and communities need to build safe containers and establish support to help us recognize resistance, explore defences and feel into the territory beyond the known and familiar. Using participatory research as a case study, this paper considers the often intense feelings of confusion, tension and fear that can be generated by climate disruption, and the developmental processes that can arise when these feelings are well supported and contained. My experience suggests that when people are given a safe facilitated space to identify and share their feelings and thoughts, fears and hopes, dreams and images with others, it stimulates a creative process of collective engagement and sense-making that has the potential to seed personal and social transformation and action. I suggest that Jungian practitioners in particular can play a valuable role by facilitating dialogues and inquiries which are attuned to collective symbolic processes and which incorporate the imaginal realm of story, dream, and image.

The prevalence of school bullying (a deliberate, repeated act of verbal, physical or relational/social aggression occurring in a situation of inequality, including cyberbullying) is high in France (10 %) as well as in other countries like the United States (more than 40 % of school children have experienced harassment at some point in their school cursus). This frequency varies by country, source of observation, school, class, and age of children. Self-questionnaires where children have to self-identify as harassing or being harassed involve a clear bias of underevaluation (even for harassed children who can feel ashamed to report explicitly harassment). The method of peer nomination of who, according to each child, has harassed or has been harassed in recent months out of all children in a class, based on mean results, is the most objective method. However, it depends on the participation rate and is not easy to implement, as some professionals consider it to be based on a denunciatory system. The fight against school bullying is a priority with regard to its possible psychological, physical and educational effects on the harassed child/adolescent, but also on the harassing child/adolescent and the spectators. In addition, the consequences of harassment are amplified in our societies by social networks with the use of SMS and Internet on mobile phones and computers. The feeling of being pursued, not only by the harassing youth but also in the eyes of the spectators is no longer limited today to the walls of the school but is also found in other environments where the harassed child/adolescent could previously recuperate from harassement (home, places of extracurricular activity, etc.). Combating school bullying requires breaking the silence and understanding its mechanisms by questioning the roles and functions of all the actors. Bullying appears to be a question of place, a place to show leadership and power but also to gain popularity for the harassing child/adolescent, a place to maintain in the group for the spectators, and a place to defend or to be established for the harassed youth. The presence of spectators, essential to the existence and maintenance of school bullying, distinguishes it from abuse; without spectators, the show cannot take place. There are indeed various actors in harassment, all of them having a major role (roles of stalker, harassed and spectator), and without which the group dynamic could not continue. It opens new perspectives of intervention based on collective responsibility but also individual responsibility, knowing that if only one spectator opposes him/herself to school bullying, harassment can stop. A part focused on each of these protagonists is presented and discussed in this article. However, there is no typology that could be reported here regarding the harassed person, the harassing one or the spectator. A model linking the various protagonists of harassment is presented and proposes that interventions take place simultaneously on these different levels, by focusing on each actor separately but also jointly in the group concerned by school bullying using discussion and role-playing. This work focuses on the ability of cognitive empathy (ability to understand the emotions of others), apparently preserved even in harassing children, and more precisely on the transition from cognitive empathy to emotional empathy (ability to experience the emotions that others feel by putting oneself in their place). If one of the fundamentals of harassment relies on an issue of place, as hypothesized, role-playing and simulation games that consist of "putting oneself in the place of the other" can be powerful mobilizers to combat harassment by allowing a change in points of view, perspectives, positions, relational modalities and behaviors. It is also important to extend interventions to larger groups representing institutions (family, school, society) with their systems of rules and laws that guarantee ethics and protect the individual within institutions. Finally, it is necessary to be aware of the possible risk of antiharassment measures, to create or reinforce an identity of harasser, harassed and/or spectator. For this reason, neither the harassed child/adolescent is designated in this article as "the victim", nor the harassing child/adolescent as "the author". The substantives (and not adjectives), the victim and the author, suggest the existence of a permanent identity persisting even outside the context of harassment and defining the individual. Similarly, the proposal of a specialized consultation in psychology and child psychiatry for harassed or harassing children/adolescents does not seem appropriate with regard to this identity issue. This underlines the importance of antibullying interventions to help build spaces for thinking where all individuals can express their feelings and experience the feelings of others, in a secure framework based on human values and clear rules, respected both at an individual and collective level, and supported by fair institutions.

RESUMO

Background. Recent changes in the Canadian regulatory landscape have prompted reflections on the role and scope of occupational therapy in the provision of psychotherapy. Purpose. To document how psychotherapy has been explored in occupational therapy literature. Method. We conducted a scoping review following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Scoping Review (PRISMA-ScR) guidelines by searching eight databases (e.g., Medline, AMED, CINAHL, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Sociological Abstracts, and ProQuest Dissertations & Theses). Articles included at the full-text stage were subjected to a narrative synthesis. Findings. A total of 207 articles met the criteria for inclusion, spanning 93 years. 47.3% of these articles represented non-empirical literature, with only 14% representing effectiveness studies, suggesting that this body of literature remains in an early stage of development. Implications. Occupational therapists have been writing about and practicing psychotherapy for nearly a century, yet there remains an important opportunity to develop and evaluate occupation-based psychotherapy approaches. Effectiveness studies are needed.
