BACKGROUND: Dental caries remains prevalent among children in Bhutan, despite an increasing number of oral health professionals (OHPs). Insights into caries preventive practices among OHPs can identify areas for capacity building. AIM: This cross-sectional descriptive study assessed the knowledge, attitude and practice of caries prevention in children among OHPs in Bhutan. DESIGN: A self-administered online questionnaire was sent to all active registered OHPs. RESULTS: The respondents included 73 dentists and 61 dental hygienists (88% response rate) with a mean experience of 8.4 ± 7.1 years. Many practitioners rarely saw children; most of them, however, exhibited a positive attitude towards caries prevention in children, yet lacked knowledge and practice, especially in younger children. Caries risk factors were not all recognized, and assessment was not practised. Many forms of fluoride were available, but their efficacy was underestimated. Fluoridated toothpaste was underutilized in younger children. Preventive practice relied mainly on giving advice. The most common limitations on preventive practice were the unavailability of materials and treatment prioritized over prevention. CONCLUSION: Caries prevention in Bhutanese children requires a systematic approach in the oral healthcare system and further education of OHPs. Proactive strategies, time management and efficient distribution of preventive materials could promote better practice.

Background: Radioactive solid and liquid waste generated by patients after high-dose iodine therapy may lead to significant radiation exposure if not properly handled. Aims and Objectives: This study was conducted to monitor the radiation exposure along the sewerage drainage system of the high-dose iodine therapy ward and to rule out leakage if any, that might pose a potential radiation hazard to the general public (sewerage workers) and radiation health professional. Materials and Methods: The sewerage drainage system from isolation wards has multiple gate valves to regulate sewerage flow from the high-dose iodine therapy ward into delay and decay tanks (DDT) built, especially for the purpose. Radiation surveillance was done using a Geiger-Muller counter-based survey meter at 11 different locations on a weekly basis for 12 weeks. Results: A total of 26 patients underwent high-dose iodine ablation therapy during the study period in our department, with the highest recorded radiation exposure rate in the sewerage draining system in the 9th week of patient admission. This was at the common gate valve junction (location B) that directed sewerage waste from all four isolation rooms into the common pipeline leading to DDT. Minimal radiation exposure was recorded within Atomic Energy Regulatory Board -prescribed limits with no evidence of leakage. Conclusion: A routine radiation survey is an important component of overall radiation safety in the nuclear medicine department, including sewerage delay tank facilities, which helps keep the radiation exposure to acceptable levels by identifying timely leakage.

INTRODUCTION: Caring for those who have been traumatized can place mental health professionals at risk of secondary traumatic stress, particularly in those with their own experience of personal trauma. AIM: To identify the prevalence of personal trauma history and secondary traumatic stress in mental health professionals and whether there is an association between these two variables in mental health professionals. METHOD: We preregistered the review with PROSPERO (CRD42022322939) and followed PRISMA guidelines. Medline, Embase, PsycINFO, Web of Science and CINHAL were searched up until 17th August 2023. Articles were included if they assessed both personal trauma history and secondary traumatic stress in mental health professionals. Data on the prevalence and association between these variables were extracted. Quality assessment of included studies was conducted using an adapted form of the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. RESULTS: A total of 23 studies were included. Prevalence of personal trauma history ranged from 19%-81%, secondary traumatic stress ranged from 19% to 70%. Eighteen studies reported on the association between personal trauma history and secondary traumatic stress, with 14 out of 18 studies finding a statistically significant positive relationship between these variables. The majority of studies were of fair methodological quality. DISCUSSION: Mental health professionals with a personal history of trauma are at heightened risk of suffering from secondary traumatic stress. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: Targeted support should be provided to professionals to prevent and/or address secondary traumatic stress in the workforce.

OBJECTIVE: Models of treatment for adults with severe and enduring eating disorders focus on harm reduction and improving quality of life. However, there is a notable gap in the pediatric literature in this area. The current study set out to assess the perspectives of health professionals regarding clinical care for young people (e.g., ages 10-25 years) with severe and enduring eating disorders, and to explore perceptions about appropriate treatment options for these presentations. METHODS: Health professionals were invited to complete a two-stage online survey about their experiences with clinical care for pediatric eating disorders through Canadian and Australian professional eating disorder networks. Survey 1 included questions about their experiences in supporting individuals with severe and enduring presentations. Participants who completed Survey 2 reviewed clinical vignettes and shared their perspectives about treatment recommendations and models of care, including for a severe and enduring presentation. RESULTS: A total of 85 clinicians responded to questions on Survey 1 about severe and enduring eating disorder presentations. A portion of these respondents (n = 25) also participated in Survey 2. The majority of respondents to Survey 1 reported providing clinical care for pediatric severe and enduring eating disorder presentations. Amongst respondents to Survey 2, there was low consensus amongst respondents for the clinical care that would be most appropriate for young people with a severe and enduring eating disorder presentation. Numerous challenges in models of care for severe and enduring presentations in pediatric settings were raised in responses on Survey 2, with clinicians sharing their awareness of models focusing on quality of life, while also raising concerns about the appropriateness of these models for young people. CONCLUSIONS: The preliminary results of this study demonstrate that the majority of clinicians report that they have provided care to young people with severe and enduring presentations. There is a clear need for establishing guidance for clinicians working in pediatric eating disorder settings around models of care focused on quality of life. Engagement with interested parties, including those with lived experience, can clarify the development of terminology and clinical pathways for severe and enduring presentations of pediatric eating disorders.


Treatment models focusing on harm reduction and quality of life (as opposed to eating disorder recovery) are available for adults with severe and enduring eating disorders. However, these models are not widely available for young people. In fact, there is very limited research on severe and enduring eating disorder presentations in pediatric populations. We assessed the views of health professionals regarding clinical care for young people with severe and enduring eating disorder presentations, and asked professionals about what treatment options might be most appropriate for these presentations. Most participants reported providing clinical care for pediatric severe and enduring eating disorder presentations. However, clinicians had diverse views about the treatment that would be most appropriate for a severe and enduring eating disorder presentation in a young person. Further research and engagement with clinicians and those with lived experience is needed to clarify the terminology and clinical pathways for severe and enduring presentations of pediatric eating disorders.

BACKGROUND: Bangladesh has a shortfall of health professionals. The World Health Organization states that improving education will increase recruitment and retention of health workers. Traditional learning approaches, in medical education particularly, focus on didactic teaching, teaching of subjects and knowledge testing. These approaches have been superseded in some programmes, with a greater focus on active learning, integrated teaching and learning of knowledge, application, skills and attitudes or values and associated testing of competencies as educational outcomes. In addition, some regions do not have continuous professional development or clinical placements for health worker students, contributing to difficulties in retention of health workers. This study aims to explore the experiences of health professional education in Bangladesh, focusing on what is through observation of health professional education sessions and experiences of educators. METHODS: This mixed method study included 22 observations of teaching sessions in clinical and educational settings, detailed analysis of 8 national curricula documents mapped to Global Competency and Outcomes Framework for Universal Health Coverage and 15 interviews of professionals responsible for health education. An observational checklist was created based on previous literature which assessed training of within dimensions of basic clinical skills; diagnosis and management; professionalism; professional development; and effective communication. Interviews explored current practices within health education in Bangladesh, as well as barriers and facilitators to incorporating different approaches to learning. RESULTS: Observations revealed a variety of approaches and frameworks followed across institutions. Only one observation included all sub-competencies of the checklist. National curricula documents varied in their coverage of the Global Competency and Outcomes Framework domains. Three key themes were generated from a thematic analysis of interview transcripts: (1) education across the career span; (2) challenges for health professional education; (3) contextual factors and health professional education. Opportunities for progression and development post qualification are limited and certain professions are favoured over others. CONCLUSION: Traditional approaches seem to predominate but there is some enthusiasm for a more clinical focus to education and for more competency based approaches to teaching, learning and assessment.

Background: Health statistics on dengue are virtually non-existent, despite the fact that the virus is circulating in Togo. This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of health professionals in the Kara health region. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from March to June 2022 among healthcare professionals who had worked in the Kara region of northern Togo were selected using an exhaustive recruitment method. Data were collected by trained resident doctors with a face-to-face interview using a standardized, pretested questionnaire based on the WHO 2009 dengue guide. Three multivariate regression models were utilized to investigate factors associated with knowledge, attitudes and, and practices. Results: A total of 464 respondents (37.1% female), median age 35 years, interquartile range (29-43 years) were included. Only (3.0%) of the participants had received training on dengue fever diagnosis, treatment and prevention in the last 3 years, and 10.3% had dengue rapid diagnostic tests available at their hospital. Half of the respondents (49.1%) had good knowledge of dengue fever, compared with 30.0% who had positive attitudes. Of a total of 256 professionals who had encountered a case of dengue fever in their practice, only 24 (9.4%) had appropriate practices for diagnosing and treating dengue fever. In multivariate analysis, the healthcare professionals who had taken part in ongoing training on dengue fever were more likely to have adequate dengue diagnosis and treatment practice aOR = 8.1; CI 95% = [1.7-36.0]. Conclusion: Strengthening healthcare professionals' dengue-related skills through ongoing training and the provision of dengue diagnostic tests could help improve early detection practices and management of dengue fever in Togo.

BACKGROUND: Pressure ulcers (PUs) are a common and serious complication in patients who are immobile in health care settings. Nurses play a fundamental role in the prevention of PUs; however, novice nurses lack experience in clinical situations. Virtual reality (VR) is highly conducive to clinical- and procedure-focused training because it facilitates simulations. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to explore the feasibility of a novel PU management VR simulation (PU-VRSim) program using a head-mounted display for novice nurses and to investigate how different types of learning materials (ie, VR or a video-based lecture) impact learning outcomes and experiences. METHODS: PU-VRSim was created in the Unity 3D platform. This mixed methods pilot quasi-experimental study included 35 novice nurses categorized into the experimental (n=18) and control (n=17) groups. The PU-VRSim program was applied using VR in the experimental group, whereas the control group received a video-based lecture. The PU knowledge test, critical thinking disposition measurement tool, and Korean version of the General Self-Efficacy Scale were assessed before and after the intervention in both groups. After the intervention, the experimental group was further assessed using the Clinical Judgment Rubric and interviewed to evaluate their experience with PU-VRSim. RESULTS: The results compared before and after the intervention showed significant improvements in PU knowledge in both the experimental group (P=.001) and control group (P=.005). There were no significant differences in self-efficacy and critical thinking in either group. The experimental group scored a mean of 3.23 (SD 0.44) points (accomplished) on clinical judgment, assessed using a 4-point scale. The experimental group interviews revealed that the VR simulation was realistic and helpful for learning about PU management. CONCLUSIONS: The results revealed that PU-VRSim could improve novice nurses' learning of PU management in realistic environments. Further studies using VR for clinical training are recommended for novice nurses.

INTRODUCTION: Healthcare professionals are vital in preparing people living with and beyond cancer about the risks of chronic pain after cancer treatment. To do so, healthcare professionals need to be knowledgeable and confident about chronic pain after cancer treatment, yet little is known about their understanding or confidence of this common long-term and late side effect of cancer treatment. AIM: To identify healthcare professionals' knowledge and understanding of chronic pain after cancer treatment and consider how confident they are to inform, listen and signpost people living with and beyond cancer to appropriate information and support. METHOD: A cross sectional online survey was distributed to healthcare professionals in the UK via cancer and primary care networks, cancer alliances and social media. The survey consisted of four domains: 1) knowledge and understanding, 2) information and support, 3) confidence and 4) barriers. Quantitative data were analysed with descriptive statistics and free text comments were analysed using qualitative content analysis. RESULTS: Healthcare professionals reported limited knowledge and understanding of chronic pain after cancer treatment. Healthcare professionals lacked confidence to talk to people about chronic pain after cancer treatment and viewed their lack of knowledge as a barrier. Additional barriers included 'Limited service provision', 'Conflict between services', 'Not my role' and 'Challenges in diagnosing chronic pain in cancer survivors'. CONCLUSION: Chronic pain after cancer can be a significant issue for those living with and beyond cancer, yet healthcare professionals report limited knowledge of it or understanding of the impact. More education is needed to increase healthcare professionals' knowledge and confidence in chronic pain after cancer treatment.

BACKGROUND: Health professionals from different specialties in medical and psychological areas play an important role in diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders (EDs). This study aimed to identify gaps in knowledge about the diagnosis, etiology, and management of EDs and to assess health professionals' attitudes towards these illnesses. METHODS: A new questionnaire was developed and validated. Residents and consultants working in disciplines involved in the management of EDs (namely, internal medicine, general practitioners, psychiatric area, psychological area, and surgical area) completed the questionnaire. Knowledge and attitudes were compared among the study groups through one-way ANCOVA and chi-square tests. RESULTS: The final version of the questionnaire consisted of 54 items assessing the following areas: stigma, treatment, physical complications, diagnosis, and aetiopathogenesis of EDs. For all health professionals the area of most deficiency was the aetiopathogenesis, while the best one was the management of physical complications. All medical professionals showed less knowledge than psychiatrists in terms of etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of EDs. A lack of knowledge about evidence-based psychotherapies, general psychopathology, and family members' role in the management of EDs emerged among all health professionals. Stigma was found among non-mental health professionals who considered these patients to be different from others and responsible for their abnormal eating behaviors. CONCLUSIONS: Clarifying the health professionals' specific gaps occurring in the knowledge of EDs and in the attitudes towards these individuals may inform educational programs to improve early detection and management of EDs.


This article investigated attitudes towards individuals with eating disorders (EDs) and knowledge of the diagnosis and management of these illnesses among health professionals. A gap in the knowledge of diagnosis, aetiopathogenesis, and treatment emerged above all in non-mental health professionals. Psychotherapy effectiveness and the role of family members in the therapeutic process were not sufficiently acknowledged, and general psychological factors contributing to the onset of EDs were not recognized. Impaired attitudes were primarily observed among surgeons, although all health professionals considered these disorders as distinct from others and viewed these individuals as responsible for their abnormal eating behaviors. These findings outline a type of stigma towards EDs that is associated with health professionals and may impair early diagnosis and recovery. Educational programs should aim to provide continuous education to update and improve the knowledge of EDs among health professionals.

Introduction: Musculoskeletal disorders affect over a third of the UK adult population and are a common reason for sick leave from work. The aims of this study were to describe the reported provision of work participation support for adults with hand and upper limb conditions by UK hand therapists, and to identify potential training needs in this area. Methods: A previous survey of the Australian Hand Therapy Association was adapted for the UK. The electronic questionnaire was distributed to members of the British Association of Hand Therapists. Eligible individuals were UK-based occupational therapists or physiotherapists whose role included the assessment and/or treatment of patients ≥18 years with hand or upper limb issues. Results: There were 123 participants (17% response rate). The most frequently reported work participation interventions were discussing graded return to work and sign-posting patients to speak with their doctor. The Allied Health Professionals Health and Work Report and Fit Note were not regularly used, and respondents reported low levels of confidence in issuing these documents. Barriers to providing work recommendations included a perceived lack of time, skills, knowledge and training. Facilitators included the patient discussing work as a rehabilitation goal. Conclusion: Development opportunities for UK hand therapists include increasing patient awareness that they can ask for work-related advice and documentation, promoting existing health and work training, developing hand therapy-specific resources, and ensuring access to electronic Fit Notes. International opportunities include the continuation of this survey with a focus on generating exemplar work participation strategies to inform further research.

BACKGROUND: Although interprofessional student led health clinics have been implemented worldwide, the impact of this model await confirmation. OBJECTIVES: To conduct a critical analysis of the literature on interprofessional student led clinics, and the views of stakeholders on feasibility and the barriers and facilitators to implementation. DESIGN: A scoping review, evidence synthesis and quality appraisal were conducted using PRISMA Scr. Eight databases were searched from 2003 to 2023: Medline (Ovid), Embase (Ovid), CINAHL (EBSCO), Cochrane, Scopus, ERIC, Web of Science and Informit Health Collection. A qualitative descriptive approach was used to analyse data from patients, students and educators and inductive thematic analysis identified emergent themes. RESULTS: Forty-six studies were included from a yield of 3140 publications. A key theme to emerge was that patients perceived improvements in their health and wellbeing and valued gaining health information from student led clinics. Student experiences were mostly positive although some found it challenging to work in interprofessional teams and roles were not always clear. The clinics enabled students to improve communication skills and autonomy. Clinical educators reported that students benefited from experiential learning within an interprofessional context. The clinics were feasible, provided that sufficient funding, infrastructure, staff and resources were available. Barriers to implementation included lack of funding, excessive waiting times and non-aligned student timetables. Pre-clinic orientation and support from on-site clinical educators facilitated implementation. CONCLUSIONS: Despite some challenges with implementing interprofessional student led clinics, they can have a positive impact on student learning and patient experiences.

Introduction: To date, concrete recommendations for physical activity in psychiatric treatments are limited. Thus, we evaluated knowledge, barriers and beliefs associated with exercise prescription of mental health professionals (MHP) to people with mental illnesses. We aimed to identify patients' barriers to exercise participation and to work out options addressing these barriers. Methods: In our cross-sectional and questionnaire-based investigation, we recruited medical, nursing and therapeutic staff and patients of a psychiatric clinic by email and personal contact. Questionnaires contained the German versions of The Exercise in Mental Illness Questionnaire (EMIQ-G) and the International Physical Activity Questionnaires (IPAQ). Results: We included 100 MHP and 100 patients. MHP had significantly more knowledge regarding positive effects of exercise on general health than patients. Exercise was prescribed mostly (48.4%) or always (37.9%) by MHP. The data showed missing education in exercise prescriptions and different recommendation behavior. Male patients seemed to experience exercise more often as a positive distraction and had lower physical health barriers than females. Discussion: Physical activity needs to be more integrated in psychiatric treatments. Some strategies as educating MHP and patients regarding potential benefits of exercise via psychoeducative brochures and adapting recommendations to individual symptoms could improve exercise behavior in psychiatric patients.

Disparities in accessing quality healthcare persist among diverse populations. Health professional education should therefore promote more diversity in the health workforce, by fostering attitudes of inclusion. This paper outlines the potential of virtual simulation (VS), as one method in a system of health professional education, to promote inclusion and diversity. We conceptualise how VS can allow learners to experience an alternative to what HPE currently is by drawing on two social justice theorists, Paulo Freire, and Nancy Fraser and their ideas about 'voice' and 'representation'. We present two principles for VS design and implementation: (1) giving voice to learners has the power to transform; and (2) representation in VS builds inclusion. We provide practical means of building voice and representation into VS learning activities, followed by an example. Purposeful and thoughtful integration of these principles paves the way for a more diverse and inclusive healthcare workforce.

BACKGROUND: Schizophrenia is a chronic condition that requiring maintenance treatment with antipsychotic medication. Medication adherence is essential to improve the symptoms of this health problem reduce relapses and readmissions and achieve treatment goals. The rate of challenges associated with medication adherence in schizophrenia is reported to be 26.5-85.1 %. PURPOSE: This study was conducted to determine factors associated with medication adherence in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. METHODS: A descriptive correlational research design was used. The study was completed with a total of 162 participants diagnosed with schizophrenia, between February-June 2021, at a Community Mental Health Center. Regression analysis (Model: enter and stepwise) was used to determine associated factors. RESULTS: The mean medication adherence score of individual diagnosed with schizophrenia indicated that more than half of the participants (52 %) had poor medication adherence. In individual diagnosed with schizophrenia, medication attitudes, level of internalized stigma, the status of regular attendance to appointments, belief in recovery, and using medicines as prescribed were complicating factors for medication adherence (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Medication adherence in individuals with diagnosed schizophrenia may be multifactorial. Mental health professionals should consider associated factors and implement a personalized treatment plan in this direction for strengthening adherence to medication treatment.

Introduction: Burnout syndrome (BS) is a prevalent occupational health problem in health professionals. To describe the prevalence and factors associated with BS in Peruvian health professionals. Method: A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed. The key terms "burnout" and "professional exhaustion" were used with words related to Peru. The databases consulted were LILACS/Virtual Health Library, Medline/PubMed, Science Direct, EBSCO, Scopus, SciELO, and RENATI-SUNEDU; articles published between January 2000 to December 2020 were considered for inclusion. Methodological quality was evaluated using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. Results: Thirty studies were identified (8 scientific articles and 22 graduate theses). The median sample size was 78, with an interquartile range of 50-110. A meta-analysis was performed to calculate a dichotomic prevalence of burnout syndrome in health professionals of 25 % (95%CI: 9 %-45 %; I2 = 97.14 %; 5 studies). Also, our meta-analysis estimated the overall prevalence of mild burnout (27 %; 95%CI: 16%-41 %; I2 = 96.50 %), moderate burnout (48 %; 95%CI: 32%-65 %; I2 = 97.54 %), and severe burnout (17 %; 95%CI: 10%-24 %; I2 = 92.13 %; 18 studies). We present meta-analyses by region, profession, hospital area, and by dimension of the Maslach Burnout Inventory. Overall, the studies presented adequate levels of quality in 96.7 % of the included studies (n = 29). In addition, our narrative review of factors associated with BS and its three dimensions identified that different studies find associations with labor, socio-demographic, individual, and out-of-work factors. Conclusions: There is a higher prevalence of moderate BS in Peruvian health professionals at MINSA and EsSalud hospitals in Peru, with severity differing by region of Peru, type of profession, work area, and dimensions of BS.

The global population was affected by the unprecedented coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. The impact of the pandemic on children who suffer child maltreatment has not been explored sufficiently. Child abuse is known to increase in stressful circumstances, and therefore potentially during this pandemic.We aimed to identify and measure the impact of pandemic-related stress in families with a suspicion or confirmed child maltreatment. In addition, other parameters were determined, including resilience factors and family dynamics.We conducted a pilot study at the Medical University of Vienna, Forensic Examination Centre for Children and Adolescents (FOKUS Safeguarding team). Parents, carers and legal guardians of children who were referred for potential child abuse (study group) participated by completing two questionnaires, one year apart, covering the following periods: pre-COVID, during-COVID and post-COVID. Simultaneously, a control group was devised with patients who presented to the Paediatric Emergency Department with unrelated conditions (other than child maltreatment concerns). The questionnaires addressed psychological stress factors and were completed face-to-face and/or via telephone. A total of 35 carers participated, with almost equal numbers in both intervention and control groups.Results show that there was statistically significantly higher stress level perception before and during the pandemic period in the study group. Several families in this group commented on the positive effect of support received from health professionals, especially after the pandemic.

Quality improvement (QI) initiatives in healthcare are crucial for enhancing service quality and healthcare outcomes. The success of these initiatives depends on the active engagement of healthcare professionals, which can be influenced by several factors within the healthcare system. This systematic review synthesized the factors influencing healthcare professionals' engagement in QI projects, focusing on identifying both barriers and facilitators. A mixed methods systematic review (MMSR) was conducted using the JBI methodology for MMSR. Databases such as MEDLINE, CINAHL, Scopus, and Embase were searched for studies that explored barriers and facilitators to QI engagement of health professionals in the clinical setting. Methodological quality was assessed using the Mixed-Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT). The extracted data were synthesized using the JBI convergent integrated approach to MMSR. Eighteen studies (seven qualitative, nine quantitative, and two mixed-methods) published between 2007 and 2023 were included in the review. The analysis revealed barriers and facilitators to engagement in QI initiatives at different levels of the health system. At the QI program level, the engagement of health professionals to QI was influenced by the approach to QI, evidence underpinning the QI initiative, QI knowledge and training, and access to QI specialists. At the health professional level, barriers and facilitators were related to their organizational role, motivation, perceptions about QI, and collaborations with individuals and groups. At the organizational level, factors related to culture and climate, leadership, available resources (including human resource and workload, infrastructure, and incentives), and institutional priorities influenced health professionals' participation in QI. This review highlights the complex interplay of organizational, individual, and QI program level factors that influence the engagement of healthcare professionals in QI. Overcoming these complex barriers and leveraging facilitators is crucial for enhancing participation in QI efforts. The findings underscore the need for a multi-level strategy that focuses on creating a conducive organizational culture, providing robust leadership, and ensuring adequate resources and training for healthcare professionals. Such strategies hold the potential to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of QI initiatives in healthcare settings.

Technology has a major impact on the way nurses work. Data-driven technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), have particularly strong potential to support nurses in their work. However, their use also introduces ambiguities. An example of such a technology is AI-driven lifestyle monitoring in long-term care for older adults, based on data collected from ambient sensors in an older adult's home. Designing and implementing this technology in such an intimate setting requires collaboration with nurses experienced in long-term and older adult care. This viewpoint paper emphasizes the need to incorporate nurses and the nursing perspective into every stage of designing, using, and implementing AI-driven lifestyle monitoring in long-term care settings. It is argued that the technology will not replace nurses, but rather act as a new digital colleague, complementing the humane qualities of nurses and seamlessly integrating into nursing workflows. Several advantages of such a collaboration between nurses and technology are highlighted, as are potential risks such as decreased patient empowerment, depersonalization, lack of transparency, and loss of human contact. Finally, practical suggestions are offered to move forward with integrating the digital colleague.

Curriculum change is relatively frequent in health professional education. Formal, planned curriculum review must be conducted periodically to incorporate new knowledge and skills, changing teaching and learning methods or changing roles and expectations of graduates. Unplanned curriculum evolution arguably happens continually, usually taking the form of "minor" changes that in combination over time may produce a substantially different programme. However, reviewing assessment practices is less likely to be a major consideration during curriculum change, overlooking the potential for unintended consequences for learning. This includes potentially undermining or negating the impact of even well-designed and important curriculum changes. Changes to any component of the curriculum "ecosystem "- graduate outcomes, content, delivery or assessment of learning - should trigger an automatic review of the whole ecosystem to maintain constructive alignment. Consideration of potential impact on assessment is essential to support curriculum change. Powerful contextual drivers of a curriculum include national examinations and programme accreditation, so each assessment programme sits within its own external context. Internal drivers are also important, such as adoption of new learning technologies and learning preferences of students and faculty. Achieving optimal and sustainable outcomes from a curriculum review requires strong governance and support, stakeholder engagement, curriculum and assessment expertise and internal quality assurance processes. This consensus paper provides guidance on managing assessment during curriculum change, building on evidence and the contributions of previous consensus papers.
