RESUMO

Purpose: With population aging, individuals in underdeveloped areas may experience a higher prevalence of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs), a lower level of health-related quality of life (HRQoL), and distinct lifestyles. However, this triadic association remains inadequately studied, particularly regarding the role of health lifestyle. This study aims to examine the relationship between the number of NCDs and HRQoL, while considering the moderating effect of health lifestyle among middle-aged and older adults residing in resource-limited areas. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Yunnan Province from July to December 2022. Participants completed a self-report questionnaire related to socio-demographic information, NCDs conditions, health lifestyle status, and HRQoL, which was assessed using the EuroQol five-dimension five-level (EQ-5D-5L) scale. Hierarchical regression and simple slope tests were used to examine the moderating effect of health lifestyle. Results: Out of the total 2704 participants, 57.91% presented at least one NCD. The mean scores for health lifestyle and health utility value were 11.109 and 0.944 respectively. The number of NCDs was negatively associated with health utility value, while positively correlated with the health lifestyle score (P<0.001). The results of hierarchical regression indicated that health lifestyle exerted a negative moderating effect on the relationship between the number of NCDs and HRQoL (ß=0.006, P<0.001), which was also observed for specific health-related behaviors such as sleep duration (ß=0.013, P<0.001), physical examination attendance (ß=0.006, P<0.05) and physical activity (ß=0.013, P<0.001). Conclusion: These findings highlight the crucial role of a healthy lifestyle in attenuating the association between the number of NCDs and HRQoL. Recognizing the potential modulating influence of a healthy lifestyle in this relationship could be pivotal for developing effective interventions for this population, even within resource-constrained rural settings.

RESUMO

Researchers often report higher metabolic syndrome (MetS) pr\4;evalence among cancer survivors than among non-cancer individuals. This study aims to explore the impact of cancer presence, activity type, and dietary lifestyle on MetS in males over 40 years of age. Participants (n = 9846; 618 cancer survivors, 9228 non-cancer) were selected by extracting data from a Korean government database spanning the years 2016 to 2021. Physical activity patterns, dietary habits, and MetS factors were measured, and a multiple logistic regression analysis was statistically processed for an odds ratio (OR). MetS was present in 32.8% of cancer survivors and 28.6% of non-cancer individuals. Gastric cancer survivors exhibited a 16% lower OR for MetS versus non-cancer participants. The ORs were higher by 1.60-, 1.45-, and 1.26-fold for colorectal, urinary, and other cancers, respectively. Cancer survivors with high calorie, carbohydrate, and fat intakes exhibited ORs of 2.01 (95% CI 1.28-4.04), 2.33 (95% CI 1.28-4.54), and 1.39 (95% CI 1.05-2.37) compared to the recommended level. The high fiber-intake group reduced the MetS OR by 20%. In conclusion, The MetS prevalence was higher in survivors with colorectal cancer, urinary cancer, and other cancers, while it was lower in patients with gastric cancer. Survivors with low rates of eating three meals a day, high skipping breakfast, increased eating-out rate, and no nutritional learning opportunity displayed higher MetS prevalence. Additionally, cancer survivors who had more strength and leisure activities had a lower OR of MetS.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Women's role as patients is associated with power relationships embedded in society. Although trust in the health care system is a general prerequisite for positive health outcomes, practices regarding women's agency in healthcare systems in Southeastern Europe reinforce women's passivity. Most of the current psychological measures of trust have been constructed and validated in "WEIRD" (samples that are drawn from populations that are White, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic) countries, thus having a limited application in other social contexts. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to construct an instrument for assessing women's trust in healthcare systems to describe the structure of trust: Women's Trust and Confidence in the Healthcare System scale. DESIGN: Two independent samples (N1 = 329; N2 = 333) of adult women in Serbia voluntarily completed an online questionnaire. The questionnaire comprised 20 trust-related items which were selected from an extensive collection of women's experiences in the healthcare system and evaluated by experts on a 5-point Likert-type scale. METHODS: We used exploratory factor analysis of the Women's Trust and Confidence in the Healthcare System scale to analyze the structure of trust in the first sample data set and validated it with the second sample using confirmatory factor analysis. We tested concurrent validity by exploring how women's trust in the healthcare system predicts health-related behaviors (multigroup structural equation modeling). All analyses were conducted using R statistical software. RESULTS: The Women's Trust and Confidence in the Healthcare System scale (Cronbach's alpha = 0.86) indicated a three-factor structure of trust in the healthcare system: trust in healthcare professionals, distrust in the public healthcare system, and confidence in healthcare system. This was validated using an independent sample. Interpersonal trust positively predicted women's desirable health behaviors, while trust in the system had a negative impact. CONCLUSION: The Women's Trust and Confidence in the Healthcare System scale captures women's trust in a paternalistic healthcare system, is reliable, and has a stable three-factor structure. The study's findings reveal the relationship between women's trust and health-related behavior: in paternalistic environments, trust reinforces women's passivity.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Social jetlag, the misalignment between biological and social rhythms, can lead to adverse health outcomes. This study explored the association between social jetlag and hazardous alcohol consumption, as well as the sex differences in this association. METHODS: This study included a nationally representative sample of Korean workers consisting of 11,462 individuals (5479 women). Social jetlag was calculated as the difference in the mid-point between sleep onset and offset on free days and workdays. Hazardous alcohol consumption was determined using the Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test-Consumption (range 0-12), with a cutoff of ≥6 for men, ≥5 for women, and ≥3 for those aged ≥65. Logistic regression analysis was used to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95 % confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS: Among men, 599 out of 5983 individuals (10.0 %) had ≥120 min of social jetlag. Among women, 550 out of 5479 individuals (10.0 %) had ≥120 min of social jetlag. The prevalence of hazardous alcohol use was 56.2 % for men and 27.3 % for women. In the regression analysis, there was a significant sex interaction, where social jetlag ≥120 min was associated with hazardous alcohol consumption in female workers (OR: 1.52, 95 % CI: 1.18-1.96), but not in male workers (OR: 1.04, 95 % CI: 0.84-1.29). CONCLUSION: High social jetlag was associated with an increased likelihood of hazardous alcohol consumption among women. Our findings underscore the importance of considering sex differences in future research and policy interventions regarding social jetlag and its associated behavior outcomes.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the co-existing patterns of health-related behaviors among children and adolescents at different education stages and the association with obesity. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. SAMPLE: A total of 5651 primary and secondary school students were drawn from the National Student Physical Health Survey in 2014 with an average age of 13.53 ± 2.87 years. MEASUREMENTS: Physical measurements and questionnaires were completed, which concluded height, weight, and health-related behaviors (sleep, physical activity, dietary, and screen behavior et al.). Latent profile analysis (LPA) was conducted using Mplus 8.3 and SPSS 26.0 was used for other statistical analysis. RESULTS: Three latent classes of health-related behaviors were fitted for each of the education stages. After adjustment for age, gender, and region, the high-screen behavior group were 2.217 (95%CI = 1.030-4.772, p = .042) times more likely to be obesity than the health-behavior group in primary school, and the poor-diet group and poor-diet and high-screen behavior group were 2.101 (95%CI = 1.396-3.396, p < .001) and 1.788 (95%CI = 1.003-3.190, p = .049) times more likely to be overweight than the health-behavior group in junior middle school respectively. CONCLUSION: Obesity is mainly influenced by screen behavior and dietary patterns among children and adolescents. Health-related behavior patterns should be accurately identified and comprehensive joint interventions should be carried out to prevent obesity.

RESUMO

Background: One approach to promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors is to target students with digital interventions. One of these is the digital intervention Buddy. This study aimed to understand why college and university students' chose to participate in a digital multiple lifestyle behavior intervention trial (Buddy), and their subsequent experiences of the behavior-change process. Methods: College and university students taking part in a trial of the Buddy intervention were individually interviewed after completing the 4-month intervention. Participants were guided to narrate their experiences and actions that followed signing up. Altogether, 50 interviews were conducted via telephone. The verbatim transcribed texts were analyzed qualitatively. Results: The analysis generated seven personas, which illustrated the students' different levels of engagement with the intervention and the behavior-change process. These were: the Occupied, the Kickstarter, the Aimless, the Reflective, the Goal-oriented, the Compliant, and the Personally developed. Buddy worked best for students who had clear ideas about what they wanted to change and why, and who were aware of their needs, and those who could translate information and reflection into action and had the mental and physical energy needed to make changes. Conclusions: The progress of behavior change depends on the interaction between the digital mode of delivery, the intervention materials of Buddy, the individual's expectations, needs, and skills, and their current life situation. This suggests that designing lifestyle interventions could benefit from more often considering the various personas' different intentions, knowledge, and contexts. By doing so, interventions are likely to emerge that can better match different needs in the target population.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effect of planning interventions on self-reported changes in parents supervised oral health-related behaviors (OHRBs) and associated clinical oral health parameters for primary school-age children. METHOD AND MATERIALS: In total, 110 parent-child pairs (children aged 3 to 8 years) were randomly assigned to either of the two groups. In the "action planning" group, parent participants of the pair were asked to make an "action plan" using the "how, when, where" format for their child OHRBs. In the "implementation intention" group, parents were asked to form an "if-then plan" to improve OHRBs for their child. Self-reported changes on target OHRBs, change in plaque scores, change in plaque stagnation areas, and change in caries status of tooth surfaces were observed at 2, 8, and 12 weeks. RESULTS: Overall OHRBs scores changed significantly from baseline to 12 weeks for both interventions. The scores were significantly better with "if-then" planning than "action planning" (z = 4, P < .001) at 12 weeks. Plaque scores also changed significantly from baseline to 12 weeks for both interventions, and improved significantly more with "if-then" planning (16.20 ± 5.24) than "action planning" (50.66 ± 11.24) at 12 weeks. The number of plaque stagnation areas also changed significantly from baseline to 12 weeks for both interventions, and improved significantly more with "if-then" planning at 12 weeks (12.80 ± 5.33) than "action planning" (42.76 ± 10.34) (t = -11.55, P < .001). There was significant change in the caries status of sound tooth surfaces with "action planning" at 12 weeks (z = 116.50, P = .023). There were no new caries lesions reported with "if-then" planning at 12 weeks. CONCLUSION: The study observed significant improvement in OHRBs and associated oral health parameters with planning interventions, preferring "if-then" planning over "action planning." It also elicited significant barriers to behaviors in action.

RESUMO

This paper examined the relationship between social identity and health-related behavior, exploring whether social identities are associated with multiple health-related behaviors or only specific ones, and whether this association varies on the type of social identity, the type of social identity measures or the expected relationship between identity and behavior. In a systematic review and meta-analysis we assessed whether the pattern of findings can be explained by the social identity approach. An extensive literature search was conducted in several databases including EBSCO-host and PubMed, using elaborate search terms related to social identity and health-related behavior. This resulted in 10728 potential articles, with 115 articles (with 248 effect sizes from 133 independent samples, N = 112.112) included in the meta-analysis. We found a small but positive overall association between social identification and health-related behavior, which was present for actual behavior, as well as for intention and attitudes. This association was stronger for health-related social identities, positive health-related behaviors, when the expected relationship was positive and when indirect social identity measures were used. However, not all findings could be explained by the social identity approach, indicating a need for further research to better understand the relationship between social identity and health-related behavior, in order to more effectively incorporate social identity into health interventions.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Although studies have shown that wisdom is positively related to mental health in older adults, little is known about its possible mechanisms. The current study examines whether health-related behavior can play a mediating role in the relationships between wisdom and geriatric depressive symptoms. METHODS: The study included 334 Polish older adults aged 60-99 years (M = 71.91; SD = 7.01). The respondents completed the Geriatric Depression Scale, Three-Dimensional Wisdom Scale, Health-Related Questionnaire for Seniors, and a sociodemographic survey. RESULTS: Three-dimensional wisdom and its three dimensions correlated negatively with geriatric depressive symptoms but positively with general health-related behavior and its factors. Health-related behavior acted partially as a mediator between wisdom and geriatric depressive symptoms. CONCLUSION: Wiser seniors tend to take part in more health-promoting behavior, which may prevent depressive symptoms. The findings support the important role played by wisdom in mental health-promoting interventions for older adults.

RESUMO

AIM: Malnutrition and infectious diseases, such as helminthic infections, are widespread among primary school children, especially in low- and middle-income countries. However, there are limited studies on school health in Bangladesh, particularly in rural settings. This study aimed to explore the nutritional status and prevalence of helminthic infections in relation to associated health behavior, awareness, and knowledge regarding malnutrition and helminthic infections which were evaluated by school nurses among primary school children in Bangladesh. METHODS: This was a descriptive, cross-sectional survey study with a total duration of 1 month, from September to October, 2021. This study formed part of a school nurse project as a cluster non-randomized clinical trial in Bangladesh. Selected variables from that clinical trial were analyzed and reported in the results section. The study participants were primary school children from four schools in rural Bangladesh. RESULTS: In total, 604 children participated in the baseline survey and health checkups. Among them, 163 (27.0%) children were classified as malnourished according to the World Health Organization growth reference standard 2007. The prevalence of helminthic infections was 53 (8.8%). Approximately >50% of the children responded that they never/rarely practiced hygiene-related behaviors and had no awareness and knowledge regarding malnutrition and helminthic infections. However, differences between the variables were not statistically significant. CONCLUSION: Children's nutritional status and prevalence of helminthic infections with related deprived health behaviors, and minimal awareness and knowledge, reinforce the importance of implementing educational interventions in the future.

RESUMO

Objective: A Health Promoting University seeks to encourage a culture of health care, quality of life, and well-being in its community. This study analyzes the perspective of the university community on concepts related to a Healthy University. Methodology: An exploratory cross-sectional study was conducted at Universidad del Valle, a public university located in Cali, Valle del Cauca, in the Southwest of Colombia. In March and May 2021, the survey "Concepts of health, Health Promoting University and constituent elements for the formulation of an institutional policy of Healthy University" was applied. The target population was the university community, involving professors, students, and university administration. For the data analysis, the technique of segmentation by two-stage cluster and the study of main components were used. Results: The total number of participants was 1435, with a median age of 29 years. Most participants chose the meaning of health as "Eating healthy and balanced" and "Feeling good about the person you are, most of the time." The concept selected for Health Promoting University was "one that works for a culture of health care through social and environmental interventions aimed at improving the quality of life." On the other hand, "Quality, Inclusive and Equitable Education" was chosen as a fundamental constitutive element of a Health Promoting University policy. Conclusions: It was observed that, regarding lifestyles, participants' mindsets shifted from traditional health biologistic imaginaries to integral health concepts, giving notable prevalence to mental health. Our results showed the perspective of the university community members, including the differences between the students, professors, and administrators regarding concepts related to a Health Promoting University.

RESUMO

Background: Behavioral patterns are sometimes associated with depression symptoms; however, few studies have considered the intra-couple effects. This study examined the effect of a spouses' behavioral patterns on depression symptoms within themself and in their spouse. Methods: A total of 61,118 childbearing age participants (30,559 husband-wife dyads) were surveyed. The depression symptoms were assessed using the nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). The behavioral patterns were identified by the latent class analysis. The effects of behavioral patterns on the couple's own depression symptoms (actor effect) and their partner's depression symptoms (partner effect) were analyzed using the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM). Results: Three behavioral patterns were identified: low-risk group, moderate-risk group, and high-risk group. The high risk of these behavior patterns would be associated with a higher score on the PHQ-9; for both husbands and wives, their behavioral patterns were positively associated with PHQ-9 scores (ßhusband = 0.53, P < 0.01; ßwife = 0.58, P < 0.01). Wives' behavioral patterns were also positively associated with their husbands' PHQ-9 scores (ß = 0.14, P < 0.01), but husbands' behavioral patterns were not associated with their wives' PHQ-9 scores. Conclusions: Wives' depression symptoms were affected only by their own behavioral patterns, whereas husbands' depression symptoms were influenced by both their own and their spouses' behavioral patterns.

RESUMO

Introduction: Self-monitoring of blood glucose levels and changes in diet and lifestyle play important roles in the management of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled patients with GDM at Hangzhou Women's Hospital, China, between September 1, 2022, and October 26, 2022. A questionnaire was designed that included the following dimensions: demographic/clinical information, knowledge, attitude and practice. Correlations between knowledge, attitude and practice scores were evaluated using Spearman correlation analysis. Factors associated with practice score ≥14/16 were identified using multivariate logistic regression. Results: The analysis included 499 women with GDM and a mean age of 31.22±3.89 years. The average knowledge, attitude and practice score were 11.55±3.04, 34.23±4.06 and 10.7±2.87 points, respectively. Knowledge score was positively correlated with attitude score (r=0.318, P<0.001) and practice score (r=0.351, P<0.001); attitude and practice scores were also positively correlated (r=0.209, P<0.001). Multivariate analysis identified higher knowledge score (odds ratio [OR], 1.138; 95% confidence interval [95% CI], 1.042-1.244; P=0.004) and higher attitude score (OR, 1.137; 95% CI, 1.060-1.219; P<0.001) as independently associated with good practice (ie, practice score ≥14 points). Conclusion: The results provide important insights into the knowledge, attitudes and practices of women with GDM in China regarding GDM and its management. These findings may facilitate the development and implementation of education and training programs to improve the self-management of GDM by women in China.

RESUMO

Introduction: To explore gender differences in the relationship between loneliness and health-related behavioral risk factors (BRFs) among the Hakka elderly. Methods: Loneliness was measured by the UCLA Loneliness Scale Short-form (ULS-8). Seven BRFs were examined. Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis, and post hoc tests were conducted to compare the differences in ULS-8 scores among the Hakka elderly with different BRFs. Generalized linear regression models were employed to examine the associations of specific BRF and its number with the ULS-8 scores among the Hakka elderly in male, female, and total samples. Results: Physical inactivity (B = 1.96, p < 0.001), insufficient leisure activities participation (B = 1.44, p < 0.001), unhealthy dietary behavior (B = 1.02, p < 0.001), and irregular sleep (B = 2.45, p < 0.001) were positively correlated with the ULS-8 scores, whereas drinking (B = -0.71, p < 0.01) was negatively associated with the ULS-8 scores in the total sample. In males, insufficient leisure activities participation (B = 2.35, p < 0.001), unhealthy dietary behavior (B = 1.39, p < 0.001), and irregular sleep (B = 2.07, p < 0.001) were positively associated with the ULS-8 scores. In females, physical inactivity (B = 2.69, p < 0.001) and irregular sleep (B = 2.91, p < 0.001) was positively correlated with the scores of ULS-8, while drinking (B = -0.98, p < 0.05) was negatively associated with the ULS-8 scores. More BRFs were significantly related to greater loneliness (p < 0.001). Conclusion: There are gender differences in the relationship between loneliness and BRFs among the Hakka elderly, and individuals with more BRFs were more likely to feel loneliness. Therefore, the co-occurrence of multiple BRFs requires more attention, and integrated behavioral intervention strategies should be adopted to reduce the loneliness of the elderly.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Health literacy and self-efficacy related to COVID-19 pandemic management are closely linked. Therefore, synthesis of relevant evidence regarding the positive aspects of health literacy and health-promoting protective measures among individuals during COVID-19 pandemic is necessary. OBJECTIVES: To determine the influence of e-health literacy and health-promoting coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) protective behaviors on the spread of infection during the COVID-19 pandemic. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, PubMed, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases, as well as PROSPERO and ClinicalTrials.gov registry platforms were searched for eligible literature published from January 2020 to July 2022. Studies were included based on predefined Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcomes and Study design (PICOS) criteria, and a summary of each study was prepared. To estimate the effect size, the standardized mean difference (SMD) of the evaluated parameters, e-health literacy and health-promoting COVID-19 protective behaviors was extracted. Using RevMan and MedCalc software, a meta-analysis was performed. RESULTS: Twelve eligible studies involving a total of 9854 severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-infected individuals were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled SMD for e-health literacy was 40.39 (95% confidence interval (95% CI): 28.14-52.63), with the following heterogeneity values: Tau2 of 396.80, ÷2 of 669.48, degrees of freedom (df) of 11, I2 of 98%, Z value of 6.47, and p < 0.001. Similarly, the pooled SM for COVID-19 protective behaviors was 15.90 (95% CI: 10.96-20.84) with Tau2 of 55.25, ÷2 of 252.92, df of 11, I2 of 98%, Z of 6.31, and p < 0.001. CONCLUSION: This study confirmed that e-health literacy and health-promoting COVID-19 protective behaviors have a strong positive impact on preventing the spread of COVID-19 infection and on its effective management. We recommend that interventions and applicable policies for promoting such e-literacy programs and preventative measures be given a high level of consideration.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this article is to assess the health behaviors of Polish Army soldiers participating in the National Health Programme 2016-2020 in relation to types of armed forces, BMI and selected demographic factors. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Anthropometric and questionnaire data were obtained in a group of 1229 soldiers of the Polish Armed Forces (PAF) from military units from all over Poland. Health behaviors patterns were assessed using the Health Behavior Inventory (HBI), developed by Juczynski. RESULTS: The HBI of PAF soldiers was 79.9±12.68, indicating an aver- age score. Statistically significant differences were found in the HBI values and in the individual categories of health behaviors according to the type of armed forces. The highest scores in each category of health behaviors were obtained by the Air Force (AF) soldiers. The lowest HBI score was obtained by the Land Forces and Territorial Defence Forces soldiers. Soldiers with higher education obtained significantly higher scores in such health categories as proper eating habits, preventive behaviors and health practices, compared to respondents with secondary education. Soldiers residing in cities had statistically significantly higher health behaviors intensities in all categories, compared to village residents. A significantly higher score in all health categories was noted in soldiers with normal body weight compared to those with diagnosed obesity. There was no significant relationship between the age of the respondents and health behaviors. CONCLUSIONS: The study found that factors such as type of armed forces, BMI, place of residence and education level were significant for the adoption of health behaviors by PAF. The level of health practices was significant- ly higher among AF soldiers compared to other types of armed forces. It seems necessary to further disseminate education on pro-health behaviors, especially among soldiers with obesity through participation in organized training and psychodietetic consultations as part of the National Health Programme. RESUMO

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked psychological and behavioural changes among pregnant women across the globe and thereby might have a devastating impact on the fetal and neonatal outcomes. The dearth of information related to this significant topic can contribute to surge feelings of uneasiness and perinatal anxiety of primigravida women. Therefore, assessing and investigating the relationship between corona disease anxiety and health related behaviors among primigravida women post COVID-19, would provide an auxiliary template to the Ministry of health in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to integrate this into their sustainable health agenda. Methods: A descriptive correlational research design was used in this study in which a convenient sample of 200 primigravida women completed a Corona disease anxiety scale (CDAS) and pregnant women's health- related behavior changes post COVID-19. Results: More than four fifth of the study subjects reported mild anxiety level (82%) and nearly three fifth of the studied primigravidas' reported fair level of health-related behaviors (59%). Also, a statistical significant correlation was found between the studied primigravidas' anxiety level and their health-related behavior including; healthy diet regimen, follow up visits, and protective personal measures (r = 0.273, P<0.001, r = 0.188, P<0.008, r = 0.242, P<0.001, r = 0.189, P<0.007, r = 0.407, P<0.001 and r = 0.309, P<0.001, respectively). Conclusion: Corona disease anxiety was proved to be the independent predictor of health- related behavior. Mental health screening of primigravida women at the outset of any public health emergency should be prompted.

RESUMO

Recent events have led to concerns about whether U.S. service members are "ready" to engage in combat operations. With most discussions now focused on military readiness, attention paid to warfighter readiness may have fallen behind. Service members typically receive extensive training in the tactical, physical, mental, social, and behavioral aspects of readiness, while the spiritual aspects are often ignored. This review examines (1) recent concerns over warfighter readiness, (2) mental health problems that are common among members of the U.S. military, (3) definitions and determinants of "spiritual readiness" (SR), (4) the impact of SR on human flourishing (HF) and warfighter readiness, (5) research on the effects of religious/spiritual involvement on HF, and (6) those responsible for building and sustaining SR in the military. An extensive body of research over the past 30 years has documented the impact of religious/spiritual (R/S) involvement on many aspects of human flourishing, thereby affecting the warfighter's readiness to perform duties at the highest level. Military chaplains, mental health professionals, and medical providers all play important roles in building and sustaining the spiritual readiness of those in the U.S. military, thereby ensuring that these individuals perform in a way that maximizes their success during combat operations.

Abstract Objective To analyze health-related behaviors and associated factors in older people working at a Brazilian public university. Method A cross-sectional, descriptive, inferential study adopting a quantitative approach was conducted. The sample comprised 113 individuals and data were collected between May/2021 and September/2022 either remotely by telephone and/or video calls, and/or in person. Descriptive and cluster analysis were performed and the Chi-square or Fisher's Exact Tests were applied for a significance level of 95%. Results Respondents were predominantly male (n=70, 61.9%), had a mean age of 65 (±3.20) years, and were of white (n=39, 34.5%) or brown (n=38, 33.6%) ethnicity. Two clusters were identified: Cluster01-fair, comprising 31 (27.4%) individuals; and Cluster02-excellent, comprising 82 (72.6%) participants, based on health-related behavior variables. A significant association was found between gender and clusters (p<0.04). Cluster02 contained more males and individuals with better health-related behaviors. Conclusion Although the results revealed that, overall, study participants had good/excellent behaviors, there was a contingent that reported health risk behaviors, highlighting the challenges surrounding self-care in the working older population. It is important to raise awareness of older individuals about health risk behaviors and their impact on health and quality of life, especially given that many older people are providers for the family and that working influences the health of older individuals.

RESUMO

Current literature reveals no increased risk for adverse non-hereditary health outcomes in the offspring of childhood cancer survivors (CCS), yet survivors reported concerns regarding their offspring's health. To investigate how the fear of cancer development in offspring influences parental behavior related to health and prevention, survey reports from 256 European adult CCS and 256 age- and sex-matched siblings who participated in a multicenter study on offspring health were analyzed in the present study. Analyses of covariance and chi-square tests were conducted to test for differences between CCS and siblings in outcome variables (all related to healthy parenting behavior). CCS reported higher fear levels (p = 0.044, Partial η2 = 0.01) and less alcohol consumption (p = 0.011, Phi = 0.12) and smoking (p = 0.022, Phi = 0.11) during pregnancy than siblings. In survivor families, children were breastfed less often (p < 0.001, Phi = 0.18). Partial correlation analyses showed that CCS' fear levels decreased with increasing age (r = -0.16, p = 0.014), time since oncological therapy (r = -0.19, p = 0.003), and number of children (r = -0.21, p = 0.001). Overall, due to their own experiences with cancer, many CCS harbor misperceptions regarding the health outcomes of their offspring. Although the fear decreases with increasing distance from the active disease, any fear should be taken seriously, even if unfounded, and combated through targeted educational measures.
