RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Male breast cancer (MBC) is rare. Molecular subtype has been utilized widely in female breast cancer. But the relationship between subtype and prognosis in MBC patients is still unknown. We aim to study the impact of molecular subtype on the prognosis of MBC. METHODS: We identified MBC cases from 1990 to 2011 retrospectively; molecular subtype was assigned by immunohistochemistry. We compared overall survival in different subtypes by Kaplan-Meier method and COX proportional hazard regression model. RESULTS: 68 patients with MBC were included in analysis with 115 months of a median follow-up time. Comparing to non-luminal A (subtypes of Luminal B, HER2 over-express and Basal-like) group, patients with luminal A had a lower recurrent rate and better overall survival (10-year survival rate was 78.0% vs 67.0%, mean survival time 197.46 ± 12.22 months vs 146.51 ± 16.88 months, p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Molecular subtype may have prognosis-predicting value for MBC.

This study evaluated the dentine permeability on the length of the root canal after the use of EDTA associated with different concentrations of NaOCl. Fifty bovine incisors were used divided into five experimental groups (n = 10) according to the irrigating solutions used: G1- 1% NaOCl; G2- 5.25% NaOCl; G3- 1% NaOCl + EDTA; G4- 5.25% NaOCl + EDTA; G5- distilled water (control group). After biomechanical preparation, the roots were subjected to histochemical staining method with 10% copper sulfate and then in 1% rubeanic acid alcohol solution for identification of dentin permeability. For the morphometric analysis the samples were cross sectioned, obtained three sections of each third, dehydrated and clarified. Analyzed with light microscopy to quantify the penetration of copper ions in the root dentin. After statistical analysis, the results indicated that there were significant differences among thirds analyzed by an order of effectiveness of the cervical third larger than the middle and this larger than the apical. However, no significant difference in relation to the permeability was found when comparing the different solutions studied. In conclusion, the use of EDTA associated with different concentrations of sodium hypochlorite, as final rinse, did not cause changes in dentin permeability in relation solutions used alone.

RESUMO

Ganglionic and cortical arteries and arterioles in 15 aging Sprague-Dowley rats were histochemically examined to evaluate their metabolic profiles using bright-field microscopy semiquantitatively. Lactate dehydrogenase showed significant reactivity which increased with vessel diameter in cortical and ganglionic vessels in all groups examined. Suceinate dehydrogenase showed trace to moderate reactivity in both cortical and ganglionic vessels. Glucose-6-phosphate dchydrogenase showed zero to trace reactivity in cortical and ganglionic vessels, suggesting less synthetic capacity of nuclear acids and proteins. Myosin ATPase showed strong to very strong reactivity which decreased slightly with vessel diameter in all groups tested, indicating high rate of utilizing ATP in smooth muscle. Little difference of enzyme reactivity was found among cortical and ganglionic vessels and vessels from different parts of caudatoputamcn. In conclusion, both cortical and ganglionic vessels are metabolically active, with significant anaerobic glycolysis, but with decrease in capacity observable for aerobic metabolism.

RESUMO

We investigated five enzymes of three metabolic pathways and an index of utilization of generated adenosine triphosphate of smooth muscular contraction. Five enzymes in the vessel walls were seniquantitatively evaluated in the aging rats(SD), Using histochemical method and bright-field microscopy. Lactate dehydrogenase showed significant reactivity which increased with vessel diameter and age in hippocampus. Succinate dehydrogenase and cytochrome oxidase showed little reactivity in hippocampal vessel in all age groups tested. Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase reaction showed slight to moderate reaction. Myosin ATPase reactivity was high in the hippocampal vessels, arteries and arterioles showed very strong reaction, veins showed strong reaction, capillary showed moderate to strong reaction. And then we discussed the relationship between vascular disease and these enzymes in hippocampus.
