BACKGROUND: Hormonal contraceptive use has been related to adverse effects, including impacts on sexual function and sexual satisfaction, although the difference in the effects on sexual function with the use of hormonal vs nonhormonal contraceptive methods remains controversial. AIM: In this study we sought to compare the prevalence of dyspareunia, sexual function, sexual satisfaction, quality of life, anxiety, and depression between women using hormonal, nonhormonal, or no contraceptive methods and to compare these outcomes between the most frequently used contraceptive methods. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included sexually active women of reproductive age who were stratified into 3 groups: women using hormonal, nonhormonal, or no contraceptive methods. Based on the use of questionnaires administered to the study participants, we compared sexual function in the 3 groups and more specifically among users of oral contraceptives, copper and hormonal intrauterine devices, and barrier methods. OUTCOMES: Participants completed 4 questionnaires to assess sexual function (Female Sexual Function Index), sexual satisfaction (Sexual Quotient-Feminine Version), quality of life (12-item Medical Outcomes Short Form Health Survey), and anxiety and depression (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale). RESULTS: This study included 315 women classified into 3 groups on the basis of contraceptive use: 161 in the hormonal contraceptives group (median [interquartile range] age, 24 [23-28] years), 97 in the nonhormonal contraceptives group (age 26 [23-30] years), and 57 in the no contraceptive methods group (age 28 [24-35] years). Dyspareunia prevalence showed no difference between the groups. In the quality of life domain, compared with women in the nonhormonal contraceptive group, women in the hormonal contraceptive group were younger and had lower sexual function satisfaction, reduced arousal, and heightened pain (P < .05), as well as higher anxiety and depression levels (P = .03, for both), increased pain (P = .01), and poorer overall health (P = .01). No difference was found between these groups in other quality of life domains. Regarding contraceptive methods, women using copper intrauterine devices had better sexual function, including higher rates of arousal and lower anxiety, than women using oral contraceptives (P < .05). CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: The results of this study highlight worse sexual function and sexual satisfaction and higher levels of anxiety and depression in women using hormonal contraceptive methods than in women using nonhormonal methods. STRENGTHS AND LIMITATIONS: The findings of this study strengthen the evidence of differences in sexual function between women using oral contraceptives and those using copper intrauterine devices. Sexual function was also compared among users of oral contraceptives, copper and hormonal intrauterine devices, and barrier methods. However, less frequently used contraceptive methods, such as hormonal injections and vaginal rings, could not be compared in this sample. CONCLUSION: Women using hormonal contraceptive methods were younger, had lower sexual function and satisfaction, and experienced higher anxiety and depression levels than women using nonhormonal contraceptive methods.

Background: Access to safe, effective, and appropriate contraception significantly reduces the rates of unintended pregnancies; however, this preventative care is not always easily accessible. There is a high patient demand for contraception visits that is often delayed or unmet due to lack of access to traditional providers. Pharmacists are highly accessible and can help manage this high demand, yet clinical pharmacists as providers of contraception services remains a gap in published literature. Objective: Develop and implement a pharmacist-led contraception service at a safety-net health-system. Methods: A comprehensive pharmacist-led clinical contraception service was created to improve patient access. To support this project, a collaborative practice agreement (CPA) was developed and enhancements were built into an electronic medical record. The CPA allowed the pharmacist to complete contraception-related interventions such as ordering urine pregnancy tests, prescribing hormonal and emergency contraceptives, and manage adverse effects. The piloting pharmacist was available at the Narcotics Treatment Program (NTP) clinic one half-day each week for scheduled and same-day visits. Results: Within the initial five half-day clinic sessions at NTP, the pharmacist had written seven prescriptions, including three for emergency contraceptives. Of all patients seen for this service at NTP, only one had been using a method of contraception consistently prior to their visit. Conclusion: The interventions that were able to be made by the pharmacist highlighted the need for improved access to contraceptives. Pharmacist-managed services in sexual and reproductive health can help fill this gap. Patients also self-reported ease of access as a benefit to this service.

INTRODUCTION: Female-specific reproductive factors and exogeneous estrogen use are associated with cognition in later life. However, the underlying mechanisms are not understood. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of reproductive factors on neuroimaging biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and cerebrovascular pathologies. METHODS: We evaluated 389 females (median age of 71.7 years) enrolled in the Mayo Clinic Study of Aging with reproductive history data and longitudinal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. We used linear mixed effect models to examine the associations between reproductive factors and changes in neuroimaging measures. RESULTS: Ever hormonal contraception (HC) use was longitudinally associated with higher fractional anisotropy across the corpus callosum, lower white matter hyperintensity (WMH) volume, and greater cortical thickness in an AD meta-region of interest (ROI). The initiation of menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) > 5 years post menopause was associated with higher WMH volume. DISCUSSION: HC use and initiation of MHT >5 years post menopause were generally associated with neuroimaging biomarkers of cerebrovascular pathologies. HIGHLIGHTS: Hormonal contraception use was associated with better brain white matter (WM) integrity. Initiation of menopausal hormone therapy >5 years post menopause was associated with worsening brain WM integrity. Hormonal contraception use was associated with greater cortical thickness. Ages at menarche and menopause and number of pregnancies were not associated with imaging measures. There were few associations between reproductive factors or exogenous estrogens and amyloid or tau PET.

There is evidence suggesting that endocrine interventions such as hormone replacement therapy and hormonal contraception can increase breast cancer (BC) risk. Sexual steroid hormones like estrogens have long been known for their adverse effects on BC development and progression via binding to estrogen receptor (ER) α. Thus, in recent years, endocrine interventions that include estrogens have been discussed more and more critically, and their impact on different BC subgroups has increasingly gained interest. Carriers of pathogenic variants in BRCA1/2 genes are known to have a high risk of developing BC and ovarian cancer. However, there remain open questions to what extent endocrine interventions targeting ERα or the progesterone receptor further increase cancer risk in this subgroup. This review article aims to provide an overview and update on the effects of endocrine interventions on breast cancer risk in the general population in comparison to BRCA1/2 mutation carriers. Finally, future directions of research are addressed, to further improve the understanding of the effects of endocrine interventions on high-risk pathogenic variant carriers.

INTRODUCTION: The Norwegian Government introduced in 2002 a reimbursement scheme for hormonal contraceptives to adolescents at the same time as public health nurses and midwives received authorization to prescribe hormonal contraceptives. This study examines the impact of increased accessibility and public funding on hormonal contraceptive use among adolescents. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The Norwegian Prescription Database, Statistics Norway, and Norwegian Institute of Public Health served as data sources for this cohort study. The study population comprised 174 653 Norwegian women born 1989-1990, 1994-1995, and 1999-2000. We examined use of hormonal contraceptives through dispensed prescriptions from age 12 through age 19 with duration of first continuous use as primary outcome. The statistical analyses were done in SPSS using chi-squared test, survival analysis, and Joinpoint regression analysis with p-values < 0.05. RESULTS: By age 19, ~75% of the cohorts had used at least one hormonal method. The main providers of the first prescription were general practitioners and public health nurses. Starters of progestogen-only pills (POPs) have increased across the cohorts, while starters of combined oral contraceptives (COCs) have decreased. The use of long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) has increased since its inclusion in the reimbursement scheme (2015). Most switchers shifted from COCs or POPs as a start method to implants after LARCs became part of the reimbursement scheme. There has been a significant increase across the cohorts in the number of women who continuously used hormonal contraceptives from start to the end of the calendar year they became 19 years with the same method and after switching methods. We could not correlate changes in decreasing trends for teenage births or induced abortions (Joinpoint analysis) to time for implementation or changes in the reimbursement of hormonal contraceptives from 2002. CONCLUSIONS: Primarily public health nurses and to a lesser extent midwives became soon after they received authorization to prescribe COCs important providers. The expansion of the reimbursement scheme to cover POPs, patches, vaginal ring, and depot medroxyprogesterone acetate in 2006 had minor impact on increasing the proportion of long-term first-time users. However, the inclusion of LARCs in 2015 significantly increased the proportion of long-term first-time hormonal contraceptive users.

INTRODUCTION: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide and is a significant threat to public health. This study aims to conduct a systematic review of the relationship between hormonal contraceptive use and breast cancer incidence. METHODS: The search was conducted using Google Scholar, Proquest, Pubmed and one Indonesian database, Garuda, using English and Indonesian keywords. The inclusion criteria in this study were the publication year of the last five years, namely 2019-2023, English and Indonesian language, case-control observational research, using the Indonesian population, and full-text access. RESULTS: A total of 165 studies were obtained from the Google Scholar database, including 104 studies. The overall multivariate analysis revealed that there was a statistically significant association of hormonal contraception with the incidence of breast cancer with OR values in the range of 2-6. CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this systematic study suggest that the use of hormones can contribute to hormonal imbalances that further increase breast cell proliferation and disrupt gene expression, resulting in uncontrolled cell development/cancer. In addition, the findings recommend increasing the number of studies on this topic to obtain more adequate and possibly more diverse information.

OBJECTIVE: To systematically review the effect of contraceptive methods following gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) on timing of beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) remission, risk of post-molar gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN), risk of unintended incident pregnancy, and interactions between contraceptive methods and disease treatment. STUDY DESIGN: We conducted a search of primary literature with search terms related to GTD and contraception through April 2023 in PubMed and extrapolated our search to other platforms. Randomized controlled trials, observational studies and case reports were eligible for inclusion if they reported on patients with known GTD who received a contraceptive method for pregnancy prevention. Data was abstracted on our main outcomes of interest: timing of beta-hCG remission, risk of post-molar GTN, risk of unintended incident pregnancy, and interactions between contraceptive methods and cancer-directed systemic disease treatment (e.g., chemotherapy). At least two authors reviewed manuscripts at each screening stage with consensus reached before data extraction. Quality assessment checklists were used to assess risk of bias for the different study types. RESULTS: Five thousand one hundred and five studies were identified in the database search, of which 42 were included for analysis. Eight thousand two hundred and ninety four participants were evaluated. Over half of the studies were case reports and only two were randomized controlled trials. While there was sparse data on all outcomes, no differences were noted in beta-hCG monitoring, risk of post-molar GTN or incident pregnancies between different contraceptive types. Interactions between contraceptive methods and cancer-directed systemic disease treatment (e.g., chemotherapy) or specific adverse events of contraceptive methods were not identified. CONCLUSIONS: Data on contraceptive use following GTD is limited, but use of both hormonal and non-hormonal modern contraceptive methods appears safe. Counseling patients on the full range of contraceptive methods is important to help patients achieve their reproductive health goals and minimize the risk of disease progression through incomplete beta-hCG monitoring prior to future pregnancy. IMPLICATIONS: Hormonal and non-hormonal contraceptive options may be used by patients following gestational trophoblastic disease without apparent changes in beta-hCG regression or risk of post-molar gestational trophoblastic neoplasia.

OBJECTIVE: To summarize and update information regarding drug-drug interactions (DDIs) between antiretrovirals (ARVs) and hormonal contraceptives (HCs). DESIGN: Systematic review METHODS: We searched seven databases for peer-reviewed publications from January 1, 2015, through December 31, 2023, including studies of women using ARVs and HCs concurrently with outcomes including therapeutic effectiveness or toxicity, pharmacokinetics (PK), or pharmacodynamics. We summarized findings and used checklists to assess evidence quality. RESULTS: We included 49 articles, with clinical, ARV or HC PK outcomes reported by 39, 25, and 30 articles, respectively, with some articles reporting outcomes in two or more categories. Fifteen of 18 articles assessing DDIs between efavirenz and progestin implants, emergency contraception, or combined hormonal intravaginal rings found higher pregnancy rates, luteal progesterone levels suggesting ovulation, or reduced progestin PK values. Five studies documented that CYP2B6 single nucleotide polymorphisms exacerbated this DDI. One cohort detected doubled bone density loss with concomitant depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF)-containing ART use versus TDF alone. No other studies described DDIs impacting clinical outcomes. Few adverse events were attributed to ARV-HC use with none exceeding Grade 2. Evidence quality was generally moderate, with dis-similar treatment and control groups, identifying and controlling for confounding, and minimizing attrition bias in the study design being the most frequent limitations. CONCLUSION: Most ARVs and HCs may be used safely and effectively together. TDF-DMPA DDIs warrant longer-term study on bone health and consideration of alternate combinations. For efavirenz-based ART, client counselling on relative risks, including both potential increase in pregnancy rate with concomitant efavirenz and implant use and lower pregnancy rates compared to other HCs even with concomitant efavirenz use, should continue to allow users comprehensive method choice.

BACKGROUND: Little is known about the degree to which the COVID-19 pandemic, and associated restrictions and disruptions to health services, impacted the accessibility of hormonal long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) devices within Australia. Here, we explore longitudinal patterns of dispensing of the contraceptive implant and hormonal intrauterine devices (IUDs) within Australia, before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: Population-based cohort study; analysis of 10% random sample of national Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme dispensing data, for females aged 15-49 years dispensed a hormonal LARC device between February 2017 and November 2021. RESULTS: Interrupted time-series analysis demonstrated overall that there were no significant differences in monthly dispensing rates of hormonal LARC following the Australian onset of the pandemic in April 2020, with no subsequent change in the trend. However, when stratified by LARC type, a significant increase was evident during the pandemic period (April 2020-November 2021) in the rate of hormonal IUD dispensing per month (0.20 per 10 000 95% CI 0.01 to 0.38)), compared with a decrease for the implant (-0.08 per 10 000 (95% CI -0.16 to 0.01)). Increases in hormonal IUD dispensing during the pandemic were most pronounced for those aged 20-24 years, new users, those without a Commonwealth concession card, and in the State of Victoria. CONCLUSIONS: Within Australia in the defined pandemic period, access to hormonal LARC devices was not negatively impacted. Rather a significant increase in dispensing of hormonal IUDs was evident.

Introduction In India, one of the world's most populous and swiftly growing countries, it is crucial to prioritize the utilization of safe and effective contraception, as contraceptive strategies play a pivotal role in bolstering community health. It is widely acknowledged that ensuring appropriate timing and spacing of pregnancies is crucial for the well-being of reproductive, maternal, neonatal, child, and adolescent health. Adoption of reversible or spacing contraceptive methods can significantly enhance women's health outcomes by reducing the occurrence of undesired, closely timed, and mistimed pregnancies. Consequently, in response to the pressing need for dependable contraception in India, this study seeks to assess the acceptance, adherence, and side effects of the injectable contraceptive depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) among its users. Methods This prospective observational study was done at the State Government Taluk Hospital in the Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu from July 2022 to October 2022. A total of 40 women of reproductive age who opted for DMPA as their contraceptive method and met the inclusion criteria were recruited through a purposive sampling method. A structured questionnaire was used to collect the data. Results The majority of the participants were women aged 21-25 years (n=14; 35%). The participants were predominantly Hindu (n=39; 97.5%), and 35 (87.5%) had completed higher secondary education. All participants (n=40; 100%) resided in rural areas and the majority were homemakers. A significant proportion of the participants had two children (n=21; 52.5%), and all of them received information on DMPA primarily from health personnel. At the initial point of data collection, three-fourths of them took the first dose (n=13; 32.5%) and only a few took more than three doses (n=3; 7.5%). In the third month, the results showed a drop in DMPA use, which indicates a lower adherence particularly linked to side effects like irregular bleeding (n=15; 37.5%) and amenorrhea (n=9; 22.5%). Furthermore, 35 (87.5%) of the women chose DMPA for birth spacing due to its efficacy and convenience, with few initiating it during postpartum (n=4; 10%) and post-abortal (n=1; 2.5%) periods. The reasons for continuing DMPA use included efficacy (n=20; 50%), discreet usage (n=15; 37.5%), and curiosity (n=13; 32.5%). Half of the participants reported no side effects. The study identified associations between DMPA users and the number of living children and occupational status inferring that DMPA contraception is used for spacing births. Conclusion The results of this study imply that the use and adherence to injectable contraceptive DMPA need to be strengthened among rural women. Thus, the study suggests incorporating information, education, and communication strategies, to enhance awareness among rural women about injectable contraceptives.

PURPOSE OF THE ARTICLE: The main aim of the study was to analyze the population of women who used etonogestrel implant, the reason that led them to this type of contraception, and the degree of compliance with it. Materials and methods: We carried out a retrospective study on women who had etonogestrel subcutaneous implant placed (n°47) over a 6-year period (2015-2021). We submitted the women a series of questions by telephone questionnaire (range 10-72 months after placements, mean 40 months) that investigated the comorbidities and side effects related to etonogestrel implant. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We carried out a retrospective study on women who had etonogestrel subcutaneous implant placed (n°47) over a 6-year period (2015-2021). We submitted the women a series of questions by telephone questionnaire (range 10-72 months after placements, mean 40 months) that investigated the comorbidities and side effects related to etonogestrel implant. RESULTS: The average age of placement of etonogestrel implant was 33.8 ± 3.45 years. As regards level of education, 16/47 (34%) of the women had a university degree, 21/47 (44%) had a high school diploma and 10/47 (21%) had a secondary school diploma. The 12/47 (25%) of the women were, at the time of the counselling, unemployed and only 8% did not use in the past contraceptive methods other than etonogestrel implant. The 92% of women choose etonogestrel implant because it offered safe, comfortable and long-lasting contraception. Among the main side effects evaluated, we reported spotting in 24 out of 47 (51%), headache in 4 out of 47 (8.5%). The 85% of the women recommended etonogestrel implant to their friends as a contraceptive method, with an approval rating for the implant, expressed a rating from 1 to 10 with the mean that was 7.79, the median 8. CONCLUSIONS: Our results are of interest because they derive from a region of Italy in which the Long acting reversible contraception (LARC) is strongly underused. Etonogestrel implant was a safe and effective, long-acting, reversible hormonal contraception (LARC) and majority of women recommended the etonogestrel implant to their friends as a contraceptive method.

Women may be more susceptible to infections in the luteal phase, supposedly as a consequence of the hormone progesterone and its immunosuppressive action. While immunosuppression may be important for successful oocyte implantation and pregnancy, it makes women more vulnerable to pathogens. According to theory, to compensate for reduced immunocompetence, women in the luteal phase exhibit proactive behavioral responses, such as disgust and avoidance of disease-associated stimuli, to minimize contagion risk. However, previous studies yielded inconsistent results, and did not account for accompanying proactive immune responses, like the increase of secretory immunoglobin A (sIgA). Here, we assessed the proactive immune response and feelings of disgust associated with disease cues in the comparison of 61 woman with a natural menstrual cycle (31 in the follicular and 30 in the luteal phase) and 20 women taking hormonal contraception (HC). Women rated disease vulnerability and disgust propensity, watched a video displaying people with respiratory symptoms, which was evaluated for its disgust-evoking potential and contagiousness, and provided saliva samples for hormone and sIgA analysis. Women with HC reported a heightened vulnerability to disease compared to naturally cycling women, whereas both the feeling of disgust and the sIgA increase elicited by the disease video were similar across groups, regardless of progesterone. We found a u-shaped relationship between progesterone and baseline sIgA in naturally cycling women, with its nadir during ovulation. Overall, our data do not support a compensatory relationship between the proposed progesterone-induced immunosuppression and heightened disgust or a proactive sIgA response.

Previous research on the endogenous effects of ovarian hormones on motivational states in women has focused on sexual motivation. The Motivational Priority Shifts Hypothesis has a broader scope. It predicts a shift from somatic to reproductive motivation when fertile. In a highly powered preregistered online diary study across 40 days, we tested whether 390 women report such an ovulatory shift in sexual and eating motivation and behaviour. We compared 209 naturally cycling women to 181 women taking hormonal contraceptives (HC) to rule out non-ovulatory changes across the cycle as confounders. We found robust ovulatory decreases in food intake and increases in general sexual desire, in-pair sexual desire and initiation of dyadic sexual behaviour. Extra-pair sexual desire increased mid-cycle, but the effect did not differ significantly in HC women, questioning an ovulatory effect. Descriptively, solitary sexual desire and behaviour, dyadic sexual behaviour, appetite, and satiety showed expected mid-cycle changes that were diminished in HC women, but these failed to reach our strict preregistered significance level. Our results provide insight into current theoretical debates about ovulatory cycle shifts while calling for future research to determine motivational mechanisms behind ovulatory changes in food intake and considering romantic partners' motivational states to explain the occurrence of dyadic sexual behaviour.

Many women experience sexual side effects, such as decreased libido, when taking hormonal contraceptives (HCs). However, little is known about the extent to which libido recovers after discontinuing HCs, nor about the timeframe in which recovery is expected to occur. Given that HCs suppress the activities of multiple endogenous hormones that regulate both the ovulatory cycle and women's sexual function, resumption of cycles should predict libido recovery. Here, using a combination of repeated and retrospective measures, we examined changes in sexual desire and partner attraction (among partnered women) across a three-month period in a sample of Natural Cycles users (Survey 1: n = 1596; Survey 2: n = 550) who recently discontinued HCs. We also tested whether changes in these outcomes coincided with resumption of the ovulatory cycle and whether they were associated with additional factors related to HC use (e.g., duration of HC use) or relationship characteristics (e.g., relationship length). Results revealed that both sexual desire and partner attraction, on average, increased across three months after beginning to use Natural Cycles. While the prediction that changes in sexual desire would co-occur with cycle resumption was supported, there was also evidence that libido continued to increase even after cycles resumed. Together, these results offer new insights into relationships between HC discontinuation and women's sexual psychology and lay the groundwork for future research exploring the mechanisms underlying these effects.

OBJECTIVES: This scoping review aimed to summarize the findings of studies regarding the perceived impact of the menstrual cycle on athletic performance, as well as the prevalence of negative menstrual cycle symptoms. DESIGN: Scoping review. METHODS: Three databases were searched and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) was used as guidance. RESULTS: A total of 39 studies were included in the final analysis. Between 2.8 and 100 % of athletes reported their performance being negatively impacted by their menstrual cycle, and the main reason was the occurrence of menstrual cycle symptoms. Additionally, a large variability in the prevalence of menstrual cycle symptoms was reported in the different studies mainly due to methodological differences and recall biases. CONCLUSIONS: Similarly, as to what has been reported in reviews summarizing performance outcomes during different menstrual cycle phases, this review highlights the high degree of variability between how athletes perceive to be impacted by their menstrual/hormonal contraceptive cycle. RESUMO

Lobular carcinoma represent the most common special histological subtype of breast cancer, with the majority classed as hormone receptor positive. Rates of invasive lobular carcinoma in postmenopausal women have been seen to increase globally, while other hormone receptor-positive breast cancers proportionally have not followed the same trend. This has been linked to exposure to exogenous ovarian hormones such as hormone replacement therapy. Reproductive factors resulting in increased lifetime exposure to endogenous ovarian hormones have also been linked to an increased risk of lobular breast cancer, and taken together, these data make a case for the role of ovarian hormones in the genesis and progression of the disease. In this review, we summarize current understanding of the epidemiological associations between ovarian hormones and lobular breast cancer and highlight mechanistic links that may underpin the etiology and biology.

Background: Elevated progesterone levels in women may protect against acute mountain sickness (AMS). The impact of hormonal contraception (HC) on AMS is unknown. We examined the effect of natural and exogenous progesterone on the occurrence of AMS. Methods: We conducted a prospective observational convenience study of female trekkers in Lobuche (4,940 m) and Manang (3,519 m). We collected data on last menstrual period, use of exogenous hormones, and development of AMS. Results: There were 1,161 trekkers who met inclusion criteria, of whom 307 (26%) had AMS. There was no significant difference in occurrence of AMS between women in the follicular (28%) and the luteal (25%) phases of menstruation (p = 0.48). The proportion of premenopausal (25%) versus postmenopausal women (30%) with AMS did not differ (p = 0.33). The use of HC did not influence the occurrence of AMS (HC 23% vs. no HC 26%, p = 0.47), nor did hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) (HRT 11% vs. no HRT 31%, p = 0.13). Conclusion: We found no relationship between menstrual-cycle phase, menopausal status, or use of exogenous progesterone and the occurrence of AMS in trekkers and conclude that hormonal status is not a risk factor for AMS. Furthermore, women should not be excluded from future AMS studies based on hormonal status.
