Context: With the ageing of Indian society, providing a healthy life among older people is a public health precedence. Therefore, beforehand discovery and possible forestalment of frailty may help promote healthy ageing and dwindle the social, mental and financial burden of their families and caregivers. Aims: The study aimed to assess the proportion of frailty and its associated factors among the elderly aged 65 years and above in a rural community of West Bengal. Settings and Design: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 270 elderlies selected from 15 villages out of a total 64 villages of Singur under the Hooghly District of West Bengal from January 2019 to February 2020. Materials and Methods: Cluster sampling technique was used. Data was collected using a pre-designed, pre-tested structured schedule including Fried frailty phenotype (FFP), geriatric depression scale short form (GDS 15) and mini nutritional assessment (MNA) tool. Statistical Analysis Used: Associated factors of frailty were assessed by univariate and multivariable logistic regression using SPSS version 16 software and MS Excel 2019. Results: The proportion of frailty was observed to be 23.7% and that of prefrailty 40.7%. Frailty was significantly associated with increasing age [AOR(CI) 1.2(1.1-1.3)], decreasing years of schooling [AOR(CI) 1.3(1.1-1.5)], loss of spouse [AOR(CI) 4.2(1.2-15.2)], financial dependency [AOR(CI) 19.3(2.7-139.0)], staying at home [AOR(CI) 16.3(2.7-98.2)], presence of anaemia [AOR(CI) 3.6(1.3-9.5)], at risk of malnutrition [AOR(CI) 6.5(1.9-22.3)], increasing number of falls in the last 1 year [AOR(CI) 4.3(1.2-15.6)], presence of 3 or more chronic diseases [AOR(CI) 154.7(12.1-1981.9)] and depression [AOR(CI) 8.3(2.5-27.0)]. Conclusion: The burden of frailty among the study population is relatively high. It's an intimidating situation that needs bettered screening provisions for early discovery with special stress on nutritive upliftment. Screening for depression should also be done regularly.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to compare radiological and clinical outcomes between alternate levels (C4 and C6) and all levels mini-plate fixation in C3-6 unilateral open-door laminoplasty. METHODS: Ninety-six patients who underwent C3-6 unilateral open-door laminoplasty with alternate levels mini-plate fixation (54 patients in group A) or all levels mini-plate fixation (42 patients in group B) between September 2014 and September 2019 were reviewed in this study. Radiologic and clinical outcomes were assessed. Clinical results included Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) of axial neck pain and Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score. Radiographic results included cervical range of motion (ROM), cervical curvature index (CCI), and the spinal canal expansive parameters including open angle, anteroposterior diameter (APD), and Pavlov`s ratio. RESULTS: There was no significant difference in VAS, JOA score, ROM, and CCI between two groups. There was no significant difference in canal expansion postoperatively between two groups. However, open angle, APD, and Pavlov`s ratio in group A decreased significantly during the follow-up. In group B, APD, Pavlov`s ratio, and open angle were maintained until the final follow-up. There was no hardware failure or lamina reclosure occurred in both groups during the follow-up. The mean cost of group B was higher than that of group A. CONCLUSIONS: Despite the differences in the maintenance of canal expansion, alternate levels mini-plate fixation can achieve similar clinical outcomes as all levels mini-plate fixation in C3-6 unilateral open-door laminoplasty. As evidenced in this study, we believe C3-6 laminoplasty with alternate levels (C4 and C6) mini-plate fixation is an economical, effective, and safe treatment method.

INTRODUCTION: Pulmonary regurgitation (PR) remains a common sequela in patients following surgically corrected TOF, and may lead to progressive right ventricle dilatation and dysfunction. The conventional approach of redo-sternotomy for pulmonary valve replacement (PVR) is associated with increased operative time as well as risks of bleeding and injury to the heart and great vessels. Thus, left anterior mini-thoracotomy has become an alternative approach in eliminating the risks of redo-sternotomy in these patients. This series aimed to determine the outcomes of minimally invasive pulmonary valve replacement after surgical TOF correction. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 24 patients with severe PR post-surgical TOF correction who underwent left anterior mini-thoracotomy PVR in Penang General Hospital from January 2021 to January 2023. RESULTS: The median age was 23.5 years (I.Q.range 17.6-36.3), with a male:female ratio of 1:4. Majority of patients had mild to moderate symptoms prior to surgery and 19 patients (79.1%) were on regular diuretics medication. All patients had severe free-flow PR with evidence of right ventricular dilatation and dysfunction. Magnetic Resonance Imaging and computed tomography of pulmonary artery were performed prior to surgery. Minimally invasive PVR was performed on all patients via left upper anterior mini-thoracotomy and femoral-femoral bypass without cardioplegic arrest. The operative time and cardiopulmonary bypass time were 208 (I.Q.range 172-324) and 98.6 minutes(I.Q.range 87.4-152.4) respectively. The time to wean off inotropes postoperatively was 6.2 hours (I.Q.range1.4-14.8), and no postoperative arrhythmia and chest re-exploration were reported. Most patients stayed in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for 10.8 hours (I.Q.range 8.4-36.5), and the total hospital stay was 4.2 days (I.Q.range 3.4-7.6). 2 patients (11.1%) required blood transfusion postoperative. There was no paravalvular leak and no mortality during the follow-up period of up to 28 months. CONCLUSION: Minimally invasive PVR after surgical correction of TOF is a safe alternative to the conventional redo-sternotomy approach in patients with favorable anatomy. This approach is able to reduce the risks associated with redo-sternotomy, particularly bleeding and injury to mediastinal structures, with the additional benefit of expedited recovery and hospital discharge. Our series has shown a safe and efficient approach in these patients with favorable outcomes.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a non-pharmaceutical multimodal intervention program consisting of physical exercise, cognitive stimulation, and health education in a group setting to slow the progression of mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Methods: A single-arm interventional study was conducted on 27 patients with MCI. To evaluate the efficacy of the intervention program, a pre-post analysis was performed using EuroQol-5 Dimension (EQ-5D), Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Cognitive Function Instrument (CFI), 5 Cog test, depression, and physical performance before and after the 8-month intervention. Additionally, propensity score and the semi-Bayes analyses were performed to compare the intervention program with standard medical care, using the external control patients' data for MMSE scores. Results: Twenty-four patients completed the intervention program. During the study period, although EQ-5D and MMSE scores remained unchanged (mean change 0.02 [95 % confidence interval (CI): -0.004, 0.04], 0.5 [-0.2, 1.3]), CFI and the subcategories of 5Cog (attention and reasoning) improved (mean change -1.23 [-2.24, -0.21], 4.3 [0.9, 7.7], 3.0 [0.4, 5.6]). In the additional analysis comparing changes in MMSE scores, patients who underwent the intervention program had less decline than the external control patients (mean change -1.7 [-2.1, -1.3]) with an observed mean difference of 2.25 [1.46, 3.03], and propensity score-adjusted difference of 2.26 [1.46, 3.05]. The semi-Bayesian approach also suggested that the intervention slowed the progression of MCI. Conclusion: A non-pharmaceutical multimodal intervention program could contribute to slowing cognitive decline in patients with MCI.

Purpose: The goal of the current study is to evaluate the stress distribution when tilted implants and mini-implants are used to support a mandibular overdenture. Materials and methods: Three-dimensional (3D) finite element models of mandibular overdentures were established using four, axial, standard-sized implants (SA model), four standard-sized implants with the mesial ones axial and the distal ones tilted (ST model) and four mini-implants (MA model) with Locator attachments. On each model, a 100 N load was applied to the overdenture in four different directions; bilateral vertical, unilateral vertical and oblique load on the posterior region, and a vertical load on the incisors. The stresses distributed at the peri-implant bone, implants, the prosthetic components, and the overdentures were evaluated. Results: Non-axial posterior loading caused higher stress values in the implant and the prosthetic component than axial posterior loading. Lower stress values of the implant and the prosthetic component were observed in the ST model than SA model. The stress distribution in the overdenture at posterior loads were mostly observed around the implants. Conclusion: Less prosthetic complications may be expected when the treatment option in the ST model is used. Fatigue fractures may occur around the implants in the overdentures, precautions are advised.

BACKGROUND: The intrusion of maxillary anterior teeth is often required and there are various intrusion modes with mini-implants in clear aligner treatment. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of maxillary anterior teeth intrusion with different intrusion modes, aiming to provide references for precise and safe intrusion movements in clinical practice. METHODS: Cone-beam computed tomography and intraoral optical scanning data of a patient were collected. Finite element models of the maxilla, maxillary dentition, periodontal ligaments (PDLs), clear aligner (CA), attachments, and mini-implants were established. Different intrusion modes of the maxillary anterior teeth were simulated by changing the mini-implant site (between central incisors, between central and lateral incisor, between lateral incisor and canine), loading site (between central incisors, on central incisor, between central and lateral incisor, between lateral incisor and canine), and loading mode (labial loading and labiolingual loading). Ten conditions were generated and intrusive forces of 100 g were applied totally. Then displacement tendency of the maxillary anterior teeth and CA, and stress of the PDLs were analyzed. RESULTS: For the central incisor under condition L14 and for the canine under conditions L11, L13, L23, and L33, the intrusion amount was negative. Under other conditions, the intrusion amount was positive. The labiolingual angulation of maxillary anterior teeth exhibited positive changes under all conditions, with greater changes under linguoincisal loading. The mesiodistal angulation of canine exhibited positive changes under labial loading, while negative changes under linguoincisal loading except for condition L14. CONCLUSIONS: The intrusion amount, labiolingual and mesiodistal angulations of the maxillary anterior teeth were affected by the mini-implant site, loading site, and loading mode. Labial and linguoincisal loading may have opposite effects on the intrusion amount of maxillary anterior teeth and the mesiodistal angulation of canine. The labiolingual angulation of the maxillary incisors would increase under all intrusion modes, with greater increases under linguoincisal loading.

IL-2 regulates the immune response by interacting with different IL-2 receptor (IL-2R) subunits. High dose of IL-2 binds to IL-2Rßγc heterodimer, which induce various side effects while activating immune function. Disrupting IL-2 and IL-2R interactions can block IL-2 mediated immune response. Here, we used a computational approach to de novo design mini-binder proteins against IL-2R ß chain (IL-2Rß) to block IL-2 signaling. The hydrophobic region where IL-2 binds to IL-2Rß was selected and the promising binding mode was broadly explored. Three mini-binders with amino acid numbers ranging from 55 to 65 were obtained and binder 1 showed the best effects in inhibiting CTLL-2 cells proliferation and STAT5 phosphorylation. Molecular dynamics simulation showed that the binding of binder 1 to IL-2Rß was stable; the free energy of binder1/IL-2Rß complex was lower, indicating that the affinity of binder 1 to IL-2Rß was higher than that of IL-2. Free energy decomposition suggested that the ARG35 and ARG131 of IL-2Rß might be the key to improve the affinity of binder. Our efforts provided new insights in developing of IL-2R blocker, offering a potential strategy for ameliorating the side effects of IL-2 treatment.

Successful pregnancy depends on precise molecular regulation of uterine physiology, especially during the menstrual cycle. Deregulated oxidative stress (OS), often influenced by inflammatory changes but also by environmental factors, represents a constant threat to this delicate balance. Oxidative stress induces a reciprocally regulated nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2/peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (Nrf2/PPARγ) pathway. However, increased PPARγ activity appears to be a double-edged sword in endometrial physiology. Activated PPARγ attenuates inflammation and attenuates OS to restore redox homeostasis. However, it also interferes with physiological processes during the menstrual cycle, such as hormonal signaling and angiogenesis. This review provides an elucidation of the molecular mechanisms that support the interplay between PPARγ and OS. Additionally, it offers fresh perspectives on the Nrf2/PPARγ pathway concerning endometrial receptivity and its potential implications for infertility.

This article presents the results of flame-retardancy tests conducted on cellulose sheets produced using a Rapid Köthen apparatus treated with retardants. The agents used were potassium carbonate (PC) K2CO3 (concentrations of 20; 33.3; and 50% wt/wt), monoammonium phosphate (MAP) NH4H2PO4 (concentrations of 35% wt/wt), diammonium phosphate (DAP) (NH4)2HPO4 (concentrations of 42.9% wt/wt), and bisguanidal phosphate (FOS) C2H10N6 (concentrations of 22.5% wt/wt). The agents were used to improve Kraft cellulose-based sheets' flame-retardant properties and compare their performances. As part of the study, the flammability of the materials was determined by the following methods: an oxygen index (OI) test, a mass loss calorimeter (MLC) test, and a mini fire tube (MFT) test. All formulations showed an increase in flame retardancy compared to the control test. All protected samples were non-flammable for OI determinations, and DAP-protected samples showed the highest OI index. For the MLC test, DAP-protected and MAP-protected samples showed the best heat-release rate (HRR), total heat release (THR), and average heat-release rate (ARHE) (samples did not ignite for 600 s). In the MFT test, all treated samples had comparably reduced weight loss. The best parameter was achieved for MAP and DAP (15% weight loss).

Orthodontic Mini-Implants have a high success rate, but it is crucial to assess the load that they bear in order to maintain their primary stability. Increasing the diameter can improve this stability, but there are limitations due to the proximity of the tooth roots. To avoid damage, smaller diameters are used, which can decrease resistance and cause permanent deformations. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to evaluate the influence of the diameter of Mini-Implants through bending force tests, taking into account primary stability after one and two insertions. METHODS: Here, 40 Ti6AI4V alloy Mini-Implants of two different brands and diameters were divided into eight groups, half of which received one insertion in the artificial bone, and the rest received two. All were subjected to a constant bending force using an INSTRON-Electropuls E10000LT (Norwood, MA, USA) until fracture. RESULTS: The smaller-diameter Mini-Implants were less resistant to fracture, but both were able to withstand the necessary loads produced by orthodontic movements. As for the inserts, there were no statistically significant differences. CONCLUSIONS: There is an advantage to using 1.6 mm Mini-Implants over 2.0 mm ones, as a smaller diameter does not lead to fracture due to the forces used in orthodontic treatment. Having one or two inserts did not have a statistically significant effect.

Background: Right anterior mini thoracotomy (RAMT) for aortic valve replacement (AVR) is a minimally invasive procedure that avoids sternotomy. Herein, we report the outcomes of patients who underwent redo-cardiac via a RAMT approach for AVR. Methods: This case series reports the clinical outcomes of 14 consecutive redo operations, done in Calgary (Canada) and Gdansk (Poland) between 2020 and 2023. Primary outcomes were 30-day mortality and disabling stroke. Secondary outcomes included surgical times, hemodynamics, permanent pacemaker implantation (PPM), length of ICU and hospital stay, new post-operative atrial fibrillation (POAF), post-operative blood transfusion, incidence of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), rate of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and/or dialysis, and chest tube output in the first 12-hours after surgery. Results: Nine patients were male, and the mean age was 64.36 years. There were no deaths, while one patient had a disabling stroke postoperatively. Mean cardiopulmonary bypass and cross clamp-times were 136 min and 90 min, respectively. Three patients needed a PPM, 3 patients needed blood transfusions, and 2 developed new onset POAF. Median lengths of ICU and hospital stays were 2 and 12 days, respectively. There was no incidence of paravalvular leak greater than trace and the average transvalvular mean gradient was 12.23 mmHg. Conclusion: The number of patients requiring redo-AVR is increasing. Redo-sternotomy may not be feasible for many patients. This study suggests that the RAMT approach is a safe alternative to redo-sternotomy for patients that require an AVR.

BACKGROUND: COVID-19 disease affected the cognitive level of institutionalized patients in nursing homes, especially in the older subjects regardless of gender. This study aims to assess cognitive impairment using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) before and after COVID-19 infection, and to determine whether these changes varied based on gender. METHODS: A pre- and post-COVID-19 study was conducted, involving 68 geriatric patients (34 men and 34 women) from two nursing homes. Cognitive impairment was assessed using the MMSE. RESULTS: COVID-19 infection had a notable impact on the cognitive health of older adults residing in nursing homes, primarily attributed to the social isolation they experienced. This effect was more pronounced in older individuals. A comparison of the MMSE results by gender before and after contracting COVID-19 revealed significant differences in attention and calculation, with women obtaining the worst score before the virus. However, following their recovery from the virus, men demonstrated significantly lower scores in time and space orientation and evocation. CONCLUSION: COVID-19 has led to a decline in cognitive functioning, significantly worsening the mental state of older individuals, even after recovery from the virus. Consequently, it is crucial to implement proactive measures to prevent isolation and safeguard the cognitive well-being of this vulnerable population.

To the best of our knowledge, little is known about the association between dietary variety status and sarcopenia in university-affiliated geriatric hospital in elderly. The present study aimed to investigate, in a multidisciplinary setting, the prevalence of sarcopenia and association between dietary variety status and sarcopenia in older outpatients at Juntendo Tokyo Koto Geriatric Medical Center (Tokyo, Japan). Between October 2020 and December 2021, a cross-sectional study of outpatients aged ≥65 years [458 male (44%) and 584 female (56%); mean age, 78.2±6.1 years] was conducted to assess prevalence of sarcopenia, according to Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 criteria, and the relationship between dietary variety status and sarcopenia. Patient profile, comorbidities, drug use, neuropsychological data, abdominal symptoms, pulmonary function and dietary variety status were collected. Of 1,042 subjects, there were 223 (21.4%) with [142 male (63.7%) and 81 female (36.3%); mean age, 80.6±6.3 years] and 819 (78.6%) without sarcopenia [316 male (38.6%) and 503 female (61.4%); mean age, 77.6±5.8]. In multivariate analysis, older age, male sex, low body mass index, high Brinkman Index and phase angle, low quality of life, history of daycare use, diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis and low Mini-Mental State Examination and Dietary Variety Score were related to sarcopenia. The prevalence of sarcopenia was higher in than in community-dwelling individuals. Dietary variety status was associated with sarcopenia.

Background Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is considered a standard treatment option for large-size renal stones but is associated with drawbacks such as bleeding and prolonged recovery. Mini-PCNL offers a less invasive alternative, but its efficacy compared to standard PCNL for renal stones larger than 2 cm remains under debate. This study aims to compare the efficacy and safety of standard PCNL versus mini-PCNL for renal stone sizes more than 2 cm. Methods This single-centre prospective interventional study will be conducted at Acharya Vinoba Bhave Rural Hospital (AVBRH). The study will include patients 18 to 70 years of age undergoing unilateral PCNL for renal calculi. Patients with renal stones larger than 2 cm will be enrolled. Data on stone-free rate (SFR), operative duration, hospital stay time, surgical site infection, haemoglobin (Hb) drop, need for blood transfusion, and post-surgery fever will be collected and compared between the two procedures. Statistical analysis of data will be performed using descriptive and analytical statistics. Results The study aims to enrol a total of 32 patients. Data analysis will be done using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 24 (Released 2016; IBM Corp., Armonk, New York). Conclusion This study will provide valuable insights into the comparative outcome in terms of efficacy and safety of standard PCNL and mini-PCNL for kidney stones larger than 2 cm.

BACKGROUND: For the treatment of coronoid process fractures, medial, lateral, anterior, anteromedial, and posterior approaches have been increasingly reported; however, there is no general consensus on the method of fixation of coronal fractures. Here, we present a highly-extensile minimally invasive approach to treat coronoid process fractures using a mini-plate that can achieve anatomic reduction, stable fixation, and anterior capsular repair. Further, the study aimed to determine the complication rate of the anterior minimally invasive approach and to evaluate functional and clinical patient-reported outcomes during follow-up. METHODS: Thirty-one patients diagnosed with coronoid fractures accompanied with a "terrible triad" or posteromedial rotational instability between April 2012 and October 2018 were included in the analysis. Anatomical reduction and mini-plate fixation of coronoid fractures were performed using an anterior minimally invasive approach. Patient-reported outcomes were evaluated using the Mayo Elbow Performance Index (MEPI) score, range of motion (ROM), and the visual analog score (VAS). The time of fracture healing and complications were recorded. RESULTS: The mean follow-up time was 26.7 months (range, 14-60 months). The average time to radiological union was 3.6 ± 1.3 months. During the follow-up period, the average elbow extension was 6.8 ± 2.9° while the average flexion was 129.6 ± 4.6°. According to Morrey's criteria, 26 (81%) elbows achieved a normal desired ROM. At the last follow-up, the mean MEPI score was 98 ± 3.3 points. There were no instances of elbow instability, elbow joint stiffness, subluxation or dislocation, infection, blood vessel complications, or nerve palsy. Overall, 10 elbows (31%) experienced heterotopic ossification. CONCLUSION: An anterior minimally invasive approach allows satisfactory fixation of coronoid fractures while reducing incision complications due to over-dissection of soft tissue injuries. In addition, this incision does not compromise the soft tissue stability of the elbow joint and allows the patient a more rapid return to rehabilitation exercises.

Background: Disheveled, EGL-10, and pleckstrin (DEP) domain-containing protein 5 (DEPDC5) is a component of GTPase-activating protein (GAP) activity toward the RAG complex 1 (GATOR1) protein, which is an inhibitor of the amino acid-sensing branch of the mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) pathway. GATOR1 complex variations were reported to correlate with familial focal epilepsy with variable foci (FFEVF). With the wide application of whole exome sequencing (WES), more and more variations in DEPDC5 were uncovered in FFEVF families. Methods: A family with a proband diagnosed with familial focal epilepsy with variable foci (FFEVF) was involved in this study. Whole exome sequencing (WES) was performed in the proband, and Sanger sequencing was used to confirm the variation carrying status of the family members. Mini-gene splicing assay was performed to validate the effect on the alternative splicing of the variation. Results: A novel variant, c.1217 + 2T>A, in DEPDC5 was identified by WES in the proband. This splicing variant that occurred at the 5' end of intron 17 was confirmed by mini-gene splicing assays, which impacted alternative splicing and led to the inclusion of an intron fragment. The analysis of the transcribed mRNA sequence indicates that the translation of the protein is terminated prematurely, which is very likely to result in the loss of function of the protein and lead to the occurrence of FFEVF. Conclusion: The results suggest that c.1217 + 2T>A variations in DEPDC5 might be the genetic etiology for FFEVF in this pedigree. This finding expands the genotype spectrum of FFEVF and provides new etiological information for FFEVF.

RESUMO

This article introduces a suite of mini-applications (mini-apps) designed to optimise computational kernels in ab initio electronic structure codes. The suite is developed from flagship applications participating in the NOMAD Center of Excellence, such as the ELPA eigensolver library and the GW implementations of the exciting, Abinit, and FHI-aims codes. The mini-apps were identified by targeting functions that significantly contribute to the total execution time in the parent applications. This strategic selection allows for concentrated optimisation efforts. The suite is designed for easy deployment on various High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems, supported by an integrated CMake build system for straightforward compilation and execution. The aim is to harness the capabilities of emerging (post)exascale systems, which necessitate concurrent hardware and software development - a concept known as co-design. The mini-app suite serves as a tool for profiling and benchmarking, providing insights that can guide both software optimisation and hardware design. Ultimately, these developments will enable more accurate and efficient simulations of novel materials, leveraging the full potential of exascale computing in material science research.

Introduction Chronic subdural hematoma (SDH) is one of the most common conditions encountered in the neurosurgical practice. Surgical modalities like twist drill craniostomy, burr hole evacuation, mini-craniotomy, and craniotomy are practiced in the management of chronic SDH. Mini-craniotomy without excision of membranes may help to achieve best results with decreased complication rate. Materials and Methods Patients with chronic SDH operated from September 2013 to September 2022 were included in the study. Mini-craniotomy (40-60 mm) was done and cruciate incision was given over the dura. Dura was left wide open by reflecting and suturing the cut edges of the dural leaflets to the craniotomy edge allowing to evacuate subdural space under vision during surgery and to allow any residual collection to drain out freely in the postoperative period. A drain was placed between the inner membrane and the bone flap. Preoperative and postoperative clinical and radiological parameters were recorded. Complications, recurrence, and residual collections were noted. Results Seventy-seven patients were included in the study. Mean age was 57.32 years. Median Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) at presentation was 13 while median GCS at discharge was 15. Two patients with preexisting comorbidities expired after surgery due to medical causes. No recurrences were noted. Fourteen patients had residual collections which resolved by 6 weeks. Two patients had wound infection. One of these patients later needed a bone flap removal due to osteomyelitis. Conclusion Mini-craniotomy without membranectomy is a good option for complete evacuation of chronic SDH under vision mainly avoiding the complication of membranectomy. It is not associated with increased complications rate. It needs fewer follow-ups as brain expansion can be established radiologically in a short period.
