RESUMO

The mechanical properties of continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastic (C-FRTP) composites are commonly lower than those of continuous fiber-reinforced thermosetting plastic (C-FRP) composites. We have developed a new molding method for C-FRTP. In this study, pre-impregnated materials were successfully prepared by polymer solution impregnation method and, finally, C-FRTP was fabricated. The viscosity of the thermoplastic matrix was decreased to approximately 3dPa×s, the same level of epoxy, and the fiber volume fraction was increased from approximately 45 to 60%. The cross-section of specimens were polished by an ion milling system and impregnation condition was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The micrographs suggested that thermoplastic polymer was impregnated to every corner of the fiber, and no void was found on the cross-section. It revealed that void-free composites with perfect mechanical properties can be manufactured with this new molding method. All specimens were submitted to a mechanical measuring equipment, and the mechanical properties of the composite specimens were investigated. Mechanical analysis revealed that tensile property and flexural property of C-FRTP were enhanced up to the same level with C-FRP.

RESUMO

Photodynamic therapy induced by protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) is widely used to treat precancerous skin lesions. The penetration depth of the prodrug 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) using topical application is currently limited, which hampers the production of PpIX in deep seated lesions. To enhance 5-ALA delivery in deep skin layers, a soluble microneedles patch (MN-patch) containing 5-ALA has been successfully developed by using a fast solvent casting molding method which could be easily up-scaled. The shape, number and height of the needles have been designed according to the medical application and the mechanical strain necessary for skin insertion. Hyaluronic acid (HA) has been chosen as the needle materials due to its biocompatibility, fast solubility and biodegradation and was mixed with 5-ALA prior to casting. HA-based MN-patch containing 5-ALA have exhibited mechanical properties enabling a good insertion into the skin without significant damages to MN. Interactions between HA and 5-ALA were evaluated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance (13C NMR), stability of 5-ALA in the MN-patch was monitored by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) and exhibited a good stability over 5 months after manufacturing. Dissolution rate of the whole patch was completed in 1 hour in ex vivo rat skin without cytotoxicity. Overall, the MN-patch can be a promising technique to enhance 5-ALA penetration and produce PpIX in deeper skin lesions.

RESUMO

The influence of poly(acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) (ABS) as a special ß-nucleating agent on the impact and tensile properties of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) were investigated by dynamic rheological measurements, wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and mechanical properties tests. It is found that the ß nucleation efficiency of ABS is closely related to its concentration, dispersibility, and molding method for the iPP/ABS blends. The content of ß-crystal (Kß) rises with the incorporation of ABS and shows a maximum with the introduction of 1% ABS for compression-molded blends and 2% ABS for injection-molded blends, respectively, which is followed by a decrease in Kß. The addition of a small amount of ABS has a significant reinforcing and toughening effect on iPP. Compared with the compression-molded samples, the ABS dispersed phase in injection-molded samples has a smaller particle size and a larger specific surface area, which are favorable for stress transmission and higher ß nucleation efficiency, and therefore, better tensile and impact properties can be expected.

RESUMO

In both cosmetic and functional aspects, loss of digital pulp is a common problem. Compound or composite defects of the hand and fingers with exposed denuded tendon, bone, joint, or neurovascular structures may require flap coverage. Most often these lesions can be repaired by using simple local flap, neurovascular flap, thenar flap, and cross-finger flap. But microvascular reconstruction is sometimes needed for large defects. But Authors do not recommend these procedures in case of severe crushing injuries involving multiple finger pulp losses because they have possibility of damage of the vascular network and infection. So we applied distant flaps such as chest flaps, groin flaps, abdominal flaps and etc. And then we applied surgical rubber gloves for remodeling the flap after cutaneous healing. We have acquired satisfactory results, after the simple molding method for distant flap finger by using surgical rubber gloves treatment.
