RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The development of effective graphical user interfaces (GUIs) has been in an emergent demand in healthcare technologies, for assessing, managing and storing patients' clinical data. Nevertheless, specifically for respiratory care there is a lack of tools to produce a multimedia database, where the main respiratory clinical data can be available in a single repository. Therefore, this study reports on the development of a usable application to collect, organise and store respiratory-related data in a single multimedia database. METHODS: A GUI, named RIBS@UA, organised in a multilayer of windows was developed in MATLAB and evaluated. The evaluation consisted of usability inspection (by two respiratory health professionals and two system designers during the development of the prototype) and usability testing (by seven physiotherapists). RESULTS: The users reported on the utility of the new application and its potential to be used in clinical/research settings. It was also stated that RIBS@UA facilitates diagnosis/assessment and contributes to the implementation of standardised interventions and treatment procedures. Nevertheless, some drawbacks were identified and suggestions were given to improve the content of specific features in the physiotherapy sessions window. CONCLUSIONS: RIBS@UA interface is an innovative application to collect, store and organise the main respiratory-related data, in a single multimedia database. Nevertheless, further improvements are still recommended before the final implementation of RIBS@UA.

RESUMO

The Objective of this research was to construct the multimedia database system that was necessary for the education of the practitioners and the students. To establish this system, there were technical problems as follows: 1) The processing of the images, 2) The rapid processing of the information with the computer network, 3) The development of diagnosis tools, 4) The technique to establish the database system, 5)The link between the database system and the internet, and 6) The method to educate through many cases. The analysis for diagnosis and treatment planning were provided as two parts : model analysis and cephalometric analysis. As a model analysis, arch length discrepancy and Bolton tooth ratio were provided for the part of patient information. Cephalometric analyses were provided in the part of initial diagnosis. The Cephalometric analysis ver 2.0 and the PowerCeph pro 3.3.5 were used to show Tweed, Steiner and Jarabak analysis. In the main part, Kim's analysis and some measurements were added. In the post-treatment or retention part, we show the superimposition of the cephalometrics with which you can find the effectiveness of the various orthodontic treatment. RESUMO

Internet application server technologies and browsers make it possible to design and develop a telemedicine application server structure providing a continuum of telemedicine care while reducing the complexity for the end user. Th build many types of "write-once-run-anywhere" telemedicine applications and allow them to dynamically adapt to a variety of platform restrictions, we need a framework to support system services for telemedicine applications. In aims to increase the efficiency of distributed multimedia medical databases in terms of clinical consulting process, we propose to mange external data access using distributed middleware standardizations. In order for our framework to be clinically relevant, we draw on experience and knowledge acquired in the field of urology, dialysis, emergency, and hospice telemedicine in which the Imaging Science and Information Systems Center at Georgetown University Medical Center has undertaken or is undertaking clinical trials. Development of a telemedicine application server for a true continuum of telemedicine care will increase user operability while decreasing the integration complexity.

RESUMO

The telemedicine is emerging as a new way of medical practice. It will provide more cooperative activity between hospitals and more comfortable access for disabled patients home. We developed a telemedicine system which is aimed to be run on the broadband-intergrated services digital network (B-ISDN). The multimedia database is adjusted to those information about patients that is directly relevant to a doctor's diagnosis. The user interface is designed to help doctors to communicate easily. The key elements of telemedicine systems were designed for user friendly interface and We implemented the pilot system to confirm the usefulness of the system.
