The success of endodontic therapy depends on the theoretical and practical knowledge of principles and clinical steps in this specialty. The present study aimed to calculate the endodontic success rate obtained by undergraduated students of the final year of UniCesumar University. For this, clinical and radiographic evaluations were performed in patients who received treatment in the PROENDO extension project, in which the final year undergraduate students performed endodontic procedures in the public health network of Marialva-Paraná in the years of 2013 and 2014. Thirty-three endodontically treated teeth were evaluated. The minimum proservation time was at least one year, and they were submitted to clinical and radiographic evaluation by a trained professional. The rate of endodontic success demonstrated by the survey was 97%, which indicates that academics are receiving quality education and patients are receiving satisfactory treatments (AU).

OBJECTIVE To determine the empathetic orientation levels of 1st to 5th year Odontology students studying in the German Clinic Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad del Desarrollo (Santiago), taking into account the year and sex of the students. MATERIALS AND METHODS Empathetic orientation was measured in the odontology students using the Jefferson Empathy Scale, Spanish version for Students (version S) validated culturally in Chile. The data on the levels analyzed were compared by means of a three-way variance analysis (Model III). RESULTS There were no statistically significant differences in empathetic orientation between the different years. It could be observed that females had higher levels of empathy compared to males. CONCLUSIONS Odontology students (independent of level and/or year) have a high level of empathetic orientation. Females have a higher level of empathetic orientation than males.

The aim of the present work is to evaluate the emphatic orientation, considering the gender and course factors, in Odontology students in the Health Sciences Faculty of the Latin American University of Sciences and Technology in Costa Rica. The sample was composed of 225 students from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th levels in Odontology Studies. They were inquired using a tool called The Jefferson Scale of Physician Empathy-Student Version (JSPE-S) during a week, a determined day per level. After carrying out the statistical analysis, it was found that the higher levels show higher levels of empathetic orientation than the rest of the courses examined in both genders. It is due to the increase of the students' clinical practice at the end of the studies and to the responsibility and commitment they achieve with their patients. Also, in general, empathetic orientation is higher in females than in males and it is evolving differently through years of studies(AU)
