RESUMO

Background: Ultrasonography of the uterine artery (UtA) in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy can assess uterine-placental blood perfusion and guide early clinical prevention. Establishing normal ranges of the UtA pulsatility index (UtA-PI) at 11-14 weeks of pregnancy is helpful for the early identification of high-risk pregnant women and improving the prognosis. This study aimed to establish a reference range of UtA-PI based on crown-rump length (CRL) for spontaneous and in vitro fertilization (IVF) singleton pregnancy during 11-14 weeks, respectively. Methods: A prospective study was performed at Peking Union Medical College Hospital. Healthy, low-risk women with a singleton pregnancy at 11-14 gestational weeks were consecutively recruited for this study from December 2017 to December 2020. All participants underwent routine prenatal ultrasound examination. The CRL of the fetus and the UtA-PI were measured in both uterine arteries, and average values were calculated. The LMS method was used to fit the percentile (P)5, P10, P25, P50, P75, P90, and P95 curves of the UtA-PI value of spontaneous and IVF singleton pregnancy with CRL changes, respectively. Results: A total of 1,962 pregnant women with normal fetuses were included in this study, including 1,792 pregnancies conceived naturally and 170 IVF fetuses. The UtA-PI reference range in the spontaneous pregnancy group was consistently higher than that in the IVF group during 11-14 weeks, and showed a statistically significant difference in UtA-PI for spontaneous and IVF pregnancies (P<0.001). According to the LMS method, each percentile curve of UtA-PI decreased with the increase of CRL in both the natural pregnancy group and the IVF group. The P95 range of UtA-PI for pregnant women with naturally conceived and IVF pregnancy was 2.74 to 2.11 and 2.50 to 1.94, respectively. The overall change of UtA-PI differentials of the two groups showed a downward trend and decreased slightly with the increase of CRL. Conclusions: This study provided a single-center, large sample of data and constructed a CRL-based reference value of UtA-PI for spontaneous and IVF singleton pregnancy, which provides a reliable basis for early UtA evaluation and early clinical decision-making during 11-14 gestational weeks.

RESUMO

Objectives: This study was performed to establish the normative values and integrated score of the functional fitness on the basis of the senior fitness test (SFT) among Chinese community-dwelling older adults in Suzhou. Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, 1,122 community-dwelling older adults aged 60 years old and above were recruited at Suzhou, China, by using a multistage stratified sampling method and accepted the SFT measurements. Sex- and age-specific normative values of each index of the SFT were established by using the percentile method. The SFT integrated score was established using factor analysis according to the data of 70% of the participants (construction group) and verified using the error rate from the data of the remaining 30% of the participants (verification group). Results: Normative-referenced percentile values at the 5th, 10th, 25th, 35th, 50th, 65th, 75th, 90th, and 95th percentiles for each index of SFT were established for the men and women among the different age groups. Five indices of the SFT, namely, 2-min step test, 30-s arm curl, 30-s chair stand, chair sit-and-reach, and 8-ft up-and-go (TUGT), gradually declined with age in both sexes (p < .05). The SFT integrated score was calculated as follows: F = 3.8 × 2-min step test + 3.8 × 30-s arm curl + 3.8 × 30-s chair stand + 2.2 × back starch + 2.6 × chair sit-and-reach + 4 × TUGT - .04 × BMI. The formula was verified using the error rate. The error rates of the verification group compared with the construction group in each grade score of SFT were lower than 5%. Conclusion: Based on the data from the community-dwelling older adults in Suzhou, China, the functional fitness normative values for each index of the SFT and the integrated score of SFT were established. The SFT integrated score formula was verified to be reasonable and effective.

RESUMO

Background To determine the prevalence of serum zinc deficiency and provide the age- and sex-specific percentile values of serum zinc in children and adolescents. Methods We used the gathered data through the CASPIAN-V study, a national survey conducted on 3500 students aged 7-18 years from 30 provinces of Iran. In this study, 1370 blood samples were selected randomly, and serum zinc concentration was measured using a Hitachi automated analyzer. Zinc deficiency was defined as a serum zinc level of less than 75 µg/dL. Age-sex specific reference percentile values were developed for serum zinc concentration. Results The mean age of participants was 12.4 ± 3.0 years; 49.3% were girls and 73% were urban inhabitants. Mean (standard deviation [SD]) of serum zinc concentration was 107.23 (25.81) µg/dL with a significant sex difference; 109.03 ± 26.12 µg/dL for males compared to 105.41 ± 25.3 µg/dL for females (p = 0.009). The prevalence of subclinical zinc deficiency was 4.9% (95% confidence intervals [CI]: 3.0, 6.9) in children and adolescents. Both zinc deficient and sufficient groups were similar in terms of age, sex and residential areas (all p-value > 0.05). Overall, the 5th and 95th percentile values for serum zinc were 68.28 and 151.87 µg/dL, respectively. The value of all percentiles consistently decreased with age. The 10-99th percentile values for serum zinc were greater in boys than girls at all ages. Conclusions Nearly 5% of subjects had zinc deficiency. Age-sex specific percentile values were established for Iranian children and adolescents.

RESUMO

AIM: To determine the normative values of stretched penile length in apparently healthy term Igbo newborn males in South eastern Nigeria and its relationship with gestational age, birth weight and birth length. METHODS: Eight hundred and eleven apparently healthy term male neonates within the first 72 h of life were studied. Enrolled subjects were consecutively delivered babies of Igbo extraction from three hospitals. The stretched penile length was measured using Schonfeld method, and the smoothed centiles (3 rd to 97th percentile values) for stretched penile length by gestational age were determined. RESULTS: The mean stretched penile length of term newborns was 3.46 ± 0.44 cm. The lower and upper limits (±2.5 SD) were 2.36-4.56 cm. Stretched penile length correlated positively with birth length and birth weight (r = 0.343, p = 0.001; r = 0.229, p = 0.001). CONCLUSION: This study has created the first smoothed percentile values for stretched penile length by gestational age for Igbo babies.

Introduction. For the diagnosis of patients with growth disorders, visual inspection and the measurement of body segments may provide important information. The most commonly used method is the assessmentof the sitting/standing height (SH/SH) ratio and its comparison to aged matched controls. Objective. To establish the normal values of the sitting/standing height ratio in a normal Aragonese population from birth to 18 years old. Population and Methods.Longitudinal study from birth to 18 years old. Length (up to 3 years old), standing height (as of 2 years old) and sit-ting height were recorded. Percentiles for sitting/ standing height ratio were determined. Results. The study included 165 male children and 167 female children. The values of the sitting/standing height ratio decrease from birth both in males and females (0.656 and 0.647, respectively) until the onset of puberty (0.514 and 0.519); and later start to slightly increase until reaching the defnitive adult ratio (0.52 and 0.53, respectively). Conclusion. Sitting/standing height ratio values are presented in normal male and female children up to 18 years old. This ratio decreases from birth to puberty and then slightly increases until reaching the fnal adult ratio.(AU)
