BACKGROUND: Proprioception, the ability to sense the body's position and movement, is essential for athletic performance and physical well-being. The literature highlights the importance of proprioceptive training in rehabilitation, sports performance, injury prevention, and motor function enhancement. Targeted training programs can improve balance, coordination, motor learning, and overall physical performance. This systematic review aimed to examine the effects of proprioceptive training methods on sports and athletic performance. METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted using the Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus databases, and a literature review was performed based on the PICO criteria outlined in the abstract and title. RESULTS: Following the search, 178 articles were identified using relevant keywords, of which 19 directly addressed sports performance and were included in this study. The findings revealed that proprioceptive training had a positive influence on various aspects of athletic performance, including physiological capacity, balance, explosive strength, speed, agility, postural stability, knee joint position sense, muscle activation, reduction of chronic joint instability, dribbling, passing, and technical ball-control skills. CONCLUSIONS: These results indicate that proprioceptive training can be an effective strategy for experts and coaches to enhance athletes' physical performance. Primarily, proprioceptive exercises should be used inside and outside the training sessions to enable athletes to interact more effectively with their bodies, reduce the risk of injury, and improve power transfer.

Emotional feelings are putatively ascribed to central representation of bodily states in the context of expectation and uncertainty in both internal state and external world. Neurodivergent people are more likely to experience co-occurring mental health challenges, although mechanistic insights underpinning this association are scarce. We therefore undertook a study to test whether imprecise processing of proprioceptive error signals may underlie the connection between neurodivergence and emotional dysregulation. In a cohort of people with complex chronic conditions, including chronic pain/fatigue, and complex trauma, and in a comparison group, we assessed presence of neurodivergence, variant connective tissue manifested through joint hypermobility, and emotional dysregulation. We present a data-informed conceptual model showing that variant connective tissue determines whether proprioceptive surprise is linked with emotional dysregulation in neurodivergent individuals. We suggest that future research in this area may have important clinical implications for the interaction of mental and physical wellbeing in neurodivergent people. Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a prevalent metabolic disorder with systemic implications, potentially affecting musculoskeletal health. This study aimed to assess shoulder muscle strength and joint repositioning accuracy in individuals with T2DM, exploring potential correlations and shedding light on the musculoskeletal consequences of the condition. The objectives were two-fold: (1) to assess and compare shoulder strength and joint repositioning accuracy between individuals with T2DM and asymptomatic counterparts, and (2) to examine the correlation between shoulder strength and joint repositioning accuracy in individuals with T2DM. Methods: A cross-sectional study enrolled 172 participants using the convenience sampling method, including 86 individuals with T2DM and an age-matched asymptomatic group (n = 86). Shoulder strength was assessed using a handheld dynamometer, while joint repositioning accuracy was evaluated with an electronic digital inclinometer. Results: Individuals with T2DM exhibited reduced shoulder muscle strength compared to asymptomatic individuals (p < 0.001). Additionally, joint repositioning accuracy was significantly lower in the T2DM group (p < 0.001). Negative correlations were observed between shoulder strength and joint repositioning accuracy in various directions (ranging from -0.29 to -0.46, p < 0.001), indicating that higher muscle strength was associated with improved joint repositioning accuracy in individuals with T2DM. Conclusion: This study highlights the significant impact of T2DM on shoulder muscle strength and joint repositioning accuracy. Reduced strength and impaired accuracy are evident in individuals with T2DM, emphasizing the importance of addressing musculoskeletal aspects in diabetes management. The negative correlations suggest that enhancing shoulder muscle strength may lead to improved joint repositioning accuracy, potentially contributing to enhanced physical functioning in this population.

The relative contributions of proprioceptive, vestibular, and visual sensory cues to balance control change depending on their availability and reliability. This sensory reweighting is classically supported by non-linear sway responses to increasing visual surround and/or surface tilt amplitudes. However, recent evidence indicates that visual cues are reweighted based on visual tilt velocity rather than tilt amplitude. Therefore, we designed a study to specifically test the hypothesized velocity dependence of reweighting while expanding on earlier findings for visual reweighting by testing proprioceptive reweighting for standing balance on a tilting surface. Twenty healthy young adults stood with their eyes closed on a toes-up/-down tilting platform. We designed four pseudo-random tilt sequences with either a slow (S) or a fast (F) tilt velocity and different peak-to-peak amplitudes. We used model-based interpretations of measured sway characteristics to estimate the proprioceptive sensory weight (Wprop) within each trial. Additionally, root-mean-square values of measured body centre of mass sway amplitude (RMS) and velocity (RMSv) were calculated for each tilt sequence. Wprop, RMS, and RMSv values varied depending on the stimulus velocity, exhibiting large effects (all Cohen's d's > 1.10). In contrast, we observed no significant differences across stimulus amplitudes for Wprop (Cohen's d's: 0.02-0.16) and, compared to the differences in velocity, there were much smaller changes in RMS and RMSv values (Cohen's d's: 0.05 - 0.91). These results confirmed the hypothesized velocity, rather than amplitude, dependence of sensory reweighting.

BACKGROUND: There has been growing interest in using unstable devices in training protocols. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of two multimodal exercise interventions (i.e., on stable and unstable surfaces) on dynamic balance control and lower limb strength in older adults. METHODS: Sixty-two older adults were randomly assigned to two intervention groups (N = 20, stable group; N = 19, unstable group), and to a control group (N = 18). In this single-blinded randomized controlled study, the two intervention groups underwent a 12-week training program twice a week for 45 min, consisting of strength and balance exercises. The stable (ST) group performed the training program over stable surfaces, while the unstable (UNST) group over unstable surfaces. Dynamic balance was assessed by computing the center of pressure (CoP) trajectory while a driven movable platform induced an unexpected perturbation of the base of support. Specifically, we considered the following CoP-related parameters within a 2.5-s temporal window from the beginning of the perturbation: displacement (Area95), mean velocity (Unit Path), anterior-posterior first peak (FP), post perturbation variability (PPV), and maximal oscillations (ΔCoPMax). The dominant quadriceps strength was measured through an isometric maximal voluntary contraction on an instrumented chair. RESULTS: Four out of five CoP-related parameters (i.e., Area95, Unit Path, ΔCoPMax, and PPV) significantly improved in the UNST group from a minimum of 14.28% (d = 0.44) to a maximum of 52.82% (d = 0.58). The ST group significantly improved only in two (i.e., ΔCoPMax, and PPV) out of five CoP-related parameters with an enhancement of 12.48% (d = 0.68) and 19.10% (d = 1.06). Both intervention groups increased the maximal isometric quadriceps strength (UNST:17.27%, d = 0.69; ST:22.29%, d = 0.98). The control group did not show changes in any of the parameters considered. CONCLUSIONS: Stable surfaces promoted faster increments of muscular strength. Unstable surfaces were more effective in enhancing dynamic balance efficiency. These findings suggested the employment of multimodal training on unstable rather than stable surfaces to potentially lower the incidence of falls in older adults. Muscle spindles have unique anatomical characteristics that can be directly affected by the surrounding tissues under physiological and pathological conditions. Understanding their spatial distribution and density in different muscles is imperative to unravel the complexity of motor function. In the present study, the distribution and number/density of muscle spindles in human and animal muscles were reviewed. We identified 56 articles focusing on muscle spindle distribution; 13 articles focused on human muscles and 43 focused on animal muscles. The results demonstrate that spindles are located at the nerve entry points and along distributed vessels and they relate to the intramuscular connective tissue. Muscles' deep layers and middle segments are the main topographic distribution areas. Eleven articles on humans and thirty-three articles on animals (totaling forty-four articles) focusing on muscle spindle quantity and density were identified. Hand and head muscles, such as the pronator teres/medial pterygoid muscle/masseter/flexor digitorum, were most commonly studied in the human studies. For animals, whole-body musculature was studied. The present study summarized the spindle quantity in 77 human and 189 animal muscles. We identified well-studied muscles and any as-yet unfound data. The current data fail to clarify the relationship between quantity/density and muscle characteristics. The intricate distribution of the muscle spindles and their density and quantity throughout the body present some unique patterns or correlations, according to the current data. However, it remains unclear whether muscles with fine motor control have more muscle spindles since the study standards are inconsistent and data on numerous muscles are missing. This study provides a comprehensive and exhaustive approach for clinicians and researchers to determine muscle spindle status.

BACKGROUND: Sensorimotor dysfunction, as measured by tactile acuity and active joint repositioning, has been identified as a contributing factor of chronic low back pain (CLBP). Existing research suggests that further research is necessary to improve the characterization of sensorimotor perception in patients with CLBP. OBJECTIVES: The main aim is to investigate whether tactile acuity and repositioning errors differ between individuals with CLBP and controls without CLBP. A secondary aim was to investigate the association between age, body mass index (BMI) and physical activity, and tactile acuity and repositioning sense. METHODS: Cross-sectional study. Sixty-eight participants (36 with, 32 without CLBP) were examined. Two-Point Discrimination (TPD) test (four measures: horizontal and vertical run, left and right side) and Active Joint Reposition Sense (AJRS) test (2 directions: to flexion and to extension) were used. RESULTS: No differences were found for TPD (right horizontal run: p = .069; left horizontal run: p = .066; right vertical run: p = .933; left vertical run: p = .285) or AJRS (flexion: p = .792; extension: p = .956) between participants with and without CLBP. Older subjects had significantly worse tactile acuity (3 sites, p = .018, p = .004, p = .041) and worse repositioning sense (2 directions, p = .026, p = .040,) than younger subjects. Individuals with BMI ≥ 25 had significantly worse TPD compared to individuals with normal weight (2 sites, p = .028, p = .020). CONCLUSIONS: Individuals with CLBP did not have impaired tactile and repositioning accuracy when compared to controls without CLBP. Future studies comparing sensorimotor performance should consider age and BMI as potential confounding factors.

Lower back disorders (LBDs) affect a large proportion of the population, and treatment for LBDs have been shifting toward individualized, patient-centered approaches. LBDs are typically associated with poor proprioception. Therefore, there has been a recent uptake in the utilization of wearable sensors that can administer biofeedback in various industrial, clinical, and performance-based settings to improve lumbar proprioception. The aim of this study was to investigate whether wearable sensor-derived acute auditory biofeedback can be used to improve measures of gross lumbar proprioception. To assess this, healthy participants completed an active target repositioning protocol, followed by a training period where lumbar-spine posture referenced auditory feedback was provided for select targets. Target re-matching abilities were captured before and after acute auditory biofeedback training to extract measures related to accuracy and precision across spine flexion targets (i.e., 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% maximum). Results suggest a heterogenous response to proprioceptive training whereby certain individuals and spine flexion targets experienced positive effects (i.e., improved accuracy and precision). Specifically, results suggest that mid-range flexion targets (i.e., 40-60% maximum flexion) benefited most from the acute auditory feedback training. Further, individuals with poorer repositioning abilities in the pre-training assessment showed the greatest improvements from the auditory feedback training.

PURPOSE: The study aimed to compare spinal posture, mobility, and position sense in adolescents with pectus excavatum (PE), pectus carinatum (PC), and healthy control (HC). METHODS: 22 with PE, 22 with PC, and 21 HC were included in the study. The spinal posture (thoracic kyphosis, lumbar lordosis, pelvic tilt, thoracic, lumbar, pelvic lateral tilt angles) and mobility (thoracic, lumbar, hip/sacral, and overall, in the sagittal and frontal plane) with the spinal mouse, and spinal position sense (repositing errors) with the inclinometer were assessed. RESULTS: The thoracic kyphosis angle of PE and PC was higher than in HC (p < 0.001; p = 0.001). Hip/sacral mobility in the sagittal plane was lower in the PE and PC than control, respectively (p < 0.001; p < 0.001). Overall sagittal spinal mobility (p:0.007) and hip/sacral mobility in the frontal plane (p:0.002) were lower in the PC than in HC. Overall frontal spinal mobility was lower in the PE and PC than in HC (p:0.002; p:0.014). The PE and PC repositing errors were higher (p < 0.001; p:0.014). CONCLUSION: The study found that adolescents with PE and PC had decreased spinal mobility, spinal alignment disorders, and a decline in spinal position sense. It is important not to overlook the spine during physical examinations of adolescents with chest wall deformities. In clinical practice, we suggest that adolescents with chest deformities should undergo a spine evaluation and be referred for physical therapy to manage spinal disorders.

Background: Cognitive-motor training in form of exergames has been found to be feasible and effective for the improvement of motor and cognitive functioning in older adults and several patient populations. Exergame training under unstable conditions might increase the proprioceptive resources needed and thus might be a superior training approach compared to exergame training on stable ground for stroke patients, who often have proprioceptive deficits. Objective: Aim of this study is to assess the feasibility and effects of exergame-based cognitive-motor training on a labile platform on physical and cognitive functioning in stroke inpatients. Methods: This is two-armed pilot randomized controlled trial taking place in an inpatient neurologic rehabilitation clinic. A total of 30 persons that are undergoing inpatient rehabilitation due to a stroke will be randomly assigned to either the intervention group (IG) or the control group (CG). Participants of the IG will receive exergame-based motor-cognitive training on a labile surface, whereas participants of the CG will train on a stable surface. Primary outcome is feasibility comprising measures of adherence, attrition, safety and usability. Secondary outcomes will be measures of cognitive (psychomotor speed, inhibition, selective attention, cognitive flexibility, brain activity) and motor (functional mobility, gait speed, balance, proprioception) functioning. Results: Data collection started in February 2024 and is expected to be completed by August 2024. Conclusion: This is the first study looking into exergame training on labile surface in stroke patients. It will give valuable insights into the feasibility and potential added value of this type of training and thus inform further implementation efforts in the context of inpatient rehabilitation. Introduction: The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is the most frequently injured ligament of the knee. However, quantitative studies on evaluate the postural control influence resulted from the ACL remnant preservation or not are scarce. The aim of this study is to evaluate the postural control of patients submitted to ACL reconstruction with and without preservation of the injured remnant in pre and postoperative periods.MethodsEighteen patients underwent ACL reconstruction and separated into 2 groups according to the preservation or not of the remnant: (I) submitted to ACL reconstruction with preservation of the remnant (10 patients); (II) submitted to ACL reconstruction without preservation of the remnant (8 patients). They were assessed using the Lysholm score and force plate, which evaluated the patient's postural stability for remnant and non-remnant preservation in ACL reconstruction surgery.ResultsGroup I showed statistically significant subjective and objective improvements, both at 3 and 6 months. Additionally, improvement of the Lysholm test at 6 months in Group II was also statistically significant. Furthermore, the results of the Friedman test for the VCOP and VY variables of Group I, with support of the injured side in the force plate, showed a statistically significant difference both for pre and postoperative period at 3 months, compared to the 6-month postoperative period. The variables EAC and VX were statistically different for Group II, considering the preoperative period, 3 and 6 months postoperatively.ConclusionPreserving the ACL remnant in patients with ACL injuries has a positive impact on postural stability during recovery.(AU)


Introducción: El ligamento cruzado anterior (LCA) es el ligamento de la rodilla que se lesiona con mayor frecuencia. Sin embargo, escasean los estudios cuantitativos sobre la evaluación de la influencia del control postural derivada de la preservación, o no, del remanente del LCA. El objetivo de este estudio es evaluar el control postural de los pacientes sometidos a la reconstrucción del LCA, con y sin preservación del remanente lesionado, en los periodos previo y posterior a la cirugía.MétodosDieciocho pacientes sometidos a reconstrucción del LCA separados en 2 grupos, de acuerdo con la preservación o no preservación del remanente: I) sometidos a reconstrucción del LCA con preservación del remanente (10 pacientes), y II) sometidos a reconstrucción del LCA sin preservación del remanente (8 pacientes). Los pacientes fueron evaluados utilizando la puntuación de Lysholm y una placa de aplicación de fuerza, que evaluó la estabilidad postural del paciente para la preservación y no preservación del remanente en la cirugía de reconstrucción del LCA.ResultadosEl grupo I mostró mejoras subjetivas y objetivas estadísticamente significativas, transcurridos 3 y 6 meses. Además, la mejora de la prueba de Lysholm transcurridos 6 meses en el grupo II fue también estadísticamente significativa. Asimismo, los resultados de la prueba de Friedman para las variables VCOP y VY en el grupo I, con apoyo del lado lesionado en la placa de aplicación de fuerza, reflejaron una diferencia estadísticamente significativa en ambos períodos pre y postoperatorio transcurridos 3 meses, en comparación con el período postoperatorio transcurridos 6 meses. Las variables EAC y VX fueron estadísticamente diferentes para el grupo II, considerando el periodo preoperatorio, y los 3 y 6 meses postoperatorios.ConclusiónPreservar el remanente del LCA en los pacientes con lesiones en dicho ligamento tiene un impacto positivo en la estabilidad postural durante la recuperación.(AU)

The pathophysiology of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) is not yet fully understood, but multifactorial hypotheses have been proposed that include defective central nervous system (CNS) control of posture, biomechanics, and body schema alterations. To deepen CNS control of posture in AIS, electroencephalographic (EEG) activity during a simple balance task in adolescents with and without AIS was parsed into EEG microstates. Microstates are quasi-stable spatial distributions of the electric potential of the brain that last tens of milliseconds. The spatial distribution of the EEG characterised by the orientation from left-frontal to right-posterior remains stable for a greater amount of time in AIS compared to controls. This spatial distribution of EEG, commonly named in the literature as class B, has been found to be correlated with the visual resting state network. Both vision and proprioception networks provide critical information in mapping the extrapersonal environment. This neurophysiological marker probably unveils an alteration in the postural control mechanism in AIS, suggesting a higher information processing load due to the increased postural demands caused by scoliosis.

Background: Laryngeal dystonia is a task-specific focal dystonia of laryngeal muscles that impairs speech and voice production. At present, there is no cure for LD. The most common therapeutic option for patients with LD involves Botulinum neurotoxin injections. Objective: Provide empirical evidence that non-invasive vibro-tactile stimulation (VTS) of the skin over the voice box can provide symptom relief to those affected by LD. Methods: Single-group 11-week randomized controlled trial with a crossover between two dosages (20 min of VTS once or 3 times per week) self-administered in-home in two 4-week blocks. Acute effects of VTS on voice and speech were assessed in-lab at weeks 1, 6 and 11. Participants were randomized to receive either 40 Hz or 100 Hz VTS. Main outcome measures: Primary: smoothed cepstral peak prominence (CPPS) of the voice signal to quantify voice and speech abnormalities, and perceived speech effort (PSE) ranked by participants as a measure of voice effort (scale 1-10). Secondary: number of voice breaks during continuous speech, the Consensus Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice (CAPE-V) inventory as a measure of overall disease severity and the Voice Handicap Index 30-item self report. Results: Thirty-nine people with a confirmed diagnosis of adductor-type LD (mean [SD] age, 60.3 [11.3] years; 18 women and 21 men) completed the study. A single application of VTS improved voice quality (median CPPS increase: 0.41 dB, 95% CI [0.20, 0.61]) and/or reduced voice effort (PSE) by at least 30% in up to 57% of participants across the three study visits. Effects lasted from less than 30 min to several days. There was no effect of dosage and no evidence that the acute therapeutic effects of VTS increased or decreased longitudinally over the 11-week study period. Both 100 and 40 Hz VTS induced measurable improvements in voice quality and speech effort. VTS induced an additional benefit to those receiving Botulinum toxin. Participants, not receiving Botulinum treatment also responded to VTS. Conclusion: This study provides the first systematic empirical evidence that the prolonged use of laryngeal VTS can induce repeatable acute improvements in voice quality and reductions of voice effort in LD. INTRODUCTION: Scapular dyskinesis is prevalent among asymptomatic athletes, particularly those involved in overhead activities, and can significantly impact their neuromuscular control. These changes may impair upper extremity function and strength, elevating the risk of injury. Therefore, it is imperative to investigate how scapular dyskinesis affects shoulder proprioception, upper extremity dynamic stability, and hand grip strength in overhead athletes. This study compared these parameters between overhead athletes with and without scapular dyskinesis. METHODS: The study included twenty asymptomatic professional overhead athletes with scapular dyskinesis and twenty without scapular dyskinesis, identified using the lateral scapular slide test. In this cross-sectional study, shoulder active joint position sense, serving as shoulder proprioception, was measured using an isokinetic dynamometer. Upper extremity dynamic stability and hand grip strength were evaluated using an upper quarter modified star excursion balance test (UQ-mSEBT) and a handheld dynamometer. RESULTS: The study found that the shoulder active joint position sense was significantly lower in the scapular dyskinesis group compared to the group without scapular dyskinesis (PExternal Rotation = 0.003, PInternal Rotation < 0.001, and PForward Flexion = 0.002). However, the two groups had no significant differences in UQ-mSEBT and hand grip strength scores. CONCLUSIONS: The results showed that scapular dyskinesis could affect the sense of shoulder active joint position among asymptomatic overhead athletes. However, it did not affect their upper extremity dynamic stability and hand grip strength.

INTRODUCTION: Whole-body vibration (WBV) is used to improve muscle function but is important to know if doses can affect the objective function outcomes. OBJECTIVE: To compare the effect of two frequencies of WBV on objective physical function outcomes in healthy young adults. METHODS: Forty-two volunteers were randomized into three groups: sham group (SG), and WBV groups with 30 (F30) and 45 Hz (F45). A 6-week WBV intervention protocol was applied by a vibrating platform twice a week, with the platform turn-off for SG and with two frequencies according to group, 30 or 45 Hz. The objective physical functions outcomes assessed were the proprioceptive accuracy, measured by proprioceptive tests, and quasi-static and dynamic balances, measured by Sensory Organization Test (SOT) and Y Balance Test, respectively. The outcomes were assessed before and after the WBV intervention. We used in the results comparisons, by GzLM test, the deltas percentage. RESULTS: After the intervention, no statistical differences were observed in percentage deltas for any outcomes (proprioceptive accuracy, quasi-static and dynamic balances). CONCLUSION: Objective physical function outcomes, after the 6-week WBV protocol, did not present statistically significant results in any of the intervention groups (F30 or F45) and SG.

Proprioceptive accuracy (PAc), i.e., the acuity of perception of the state of different parts of the motor system, shows substantial intraindividual differences, and is often considered a general ability. However, it is questionable whether there is an association between accuracies measured with different tests at different body sites. PAc with respect to both knee and elbow joints (joint position reproduction) and the flexors of the upper arms (weight discrimination) was measured in 87 young healthy individuals with regular physical activity across multiple indices. Expected and perceived performance was also assessed for each behavioral task. Frequentist and Bayesian analysis largely supported the idea that PAc with respect to various parts of the motor system are unrelated. No dominant-subdominant differences for actual performance were found; however, PAc for the dominant and subdominant limb were associated in many cases. Finally, perceived performance was related to expected but not to actual performance for all three proprioceptive modalities. In conclusion, actual accuracy of perception of the actual state of a part (i.e., joint, muscle) of the motor system cannot be generalized to other parts. Perceived accuracy, dominantly shaped by expectations, is independent from actual accuracy.

Proprioception has long been linked with emotional dysregulation in neurotypical adults. Neuropediatric disorders such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and cerebral palsy (CP) are distinct entities and yet both present with deficits and challenges in sensory processing and the regulation of emotions. This study aimed to explore the relationship between proprioception and emotional-social performance in children and to compare proprioception and emotional-social performance in different underlying neurodevelopmental conditions. For this purpose, this cross-sectional study included 42 children with ASD, 34 children with CP and 50 typically developing peers. Proprioceptive acuity, proprioceptive reactive behavior as well as emotion regulation and social responsiveness were assessed. The results show a significant correlation between proprioceptive deficits and emotional difficulties in this pediatric sample, with distinct proprioceptive impairment patterns according to the underlying neurological disorder. Children with CP showed significant emotional knowledge deficits, while children with ASD predominantly showed challenges in social responsiveness. These data thus suggest a differentiated impact of proprioception on emotional-social performance in neurodevelopmental disorders and highlight proprioception as a potential therapeutic target for balancing emotion regulation in children with neurodevelopmental conditions.

The remarkable human ability to predict others' intent during physical interactions develops at a very early age and is crucial for development. Intent prediction, defined as the simultaneous recognition and generation of human-human interactions, has many applications such as in assistive robotics, human-robot interaction, video and robotic surveillance, and autonomous driving. However, models for solving the problem are scarce. This paper proposes two attention-based agent models to predict the intent of interacting 3D skeletons by sampling them via a sequence of glimpses. The novelty of these agent models is that they are inherently multimodal, consisting of perceptual and proprioceptive pathways. The action (attention) is driven by the agent's generation error, and not by reinforcement. At each sampling instant, the agent completes the partially observed skeletal motion and infers the interaction class. It learns where and what to sample by minimizing the generation and classification errors. Extensive evaluation of our models is carried out on benchmark datasets and in comparison to a state-of-the-art model for intent prediction, which reveals that classification and generation accuracies of one of the proposed models are comparable to those of the state of the art even though our model contains fewer trainable parameters. The insights gained from our model designs can inform the development of efficient agents, the future of artificial intelligence (AI).

Background: Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is the most ubiquitous form of urinary incontinence in women. The therapeutic management of patients with SUI is challenging. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of whole body vibration training (WBVT) for SUI. Methods: Thirty-five female rats were randomly divided into a sham group (Sham group, n=5), SUI + WBVT group (n=15) and SUI + whole body rest group (SUI + WBR group, n=15). The SUI + WBVT group was trained as follows: frequency 30 Hz, amplitude four mm, one min/repeat, four min rest, repeated 10 times, five days/week. After the intervention, five rats were taken on the 7th, 14th and 21st day to observe the urodynamic changes, levator ani muscle and dorsal root ganglia (DRG) morphology, and to observe the expression of neurotrophic factor-3/tyrosine protein kinase C (NT-3/TrkC) by Western blot. Results: The urodynamic results showed that the difference in bladder leak point pressure/abdominal leak point pressure (BLPP/ALPP) between the Sham group and the SUI + WBR group was statistically significant (P<0.001) on 7th day, indicating successful modeling. The BLPP/ALPP of the SUI + WBVT group and the SUI + WBR group improved on 7th, 14th, and 21st day, and the BLPP/ALPP of SUI + WBVT group was higher than the SUI + WBR group. Compared with the Sham group, pathological changes appeared in the muscle shuttles in the SUI + WBVT group and SUI + WBR group. Western blot showed a gradual up-regulation of NT-3/TrkC. Conclusions: WBVT can be used to treat SUI by affecting the expression of NT-3/TrkC, improving the structural morphology of the proprioceptors, and restoring the urinary control function. This study provides evidence for the clinical practice of WBVT. Future studies could further refine the behavioral and electrophysiological aspects of the assessment.

PURPOSE: Breast cancer surgery can cause changes in the anatomical structure of the shoulder and in shoulder mobility, leading to the increased possibility of long-term arm morbidity such as lymphedema. This study aims to evaluate the active shoulder joint position sense (AJPS) with and without lymphedema in postmastectomy patients. METHODS: A total of 66 women, including 22 patients with lymphedema, 22 patients without lymphedema, and 22 healthy controls, were enrolled in the study. Pain severity was evaluated with the Numeric Pain Scale and edema severity was measured with circumferentially at 10 cm intervals. The normal range of motion of the shoulder joint was evaluated with the universal goniometer and the AJPS was assessed by active position repetition testing at 55°, 90°, and 125° shoulder flexion targets using the smartphone application "Clinometer." RESULTS: AJPS at 55°, 90°, and 125° shoulder flexion target angles with and without lymphedema were different in all target angles compared to healthy controls (p < 0.01). There was a difference between the absolute error value of AJPS at 55° flexion (p < 0.05), and no difference at 90° and 125° flexion between the with and without lymphedema groups (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: This study shows that the AJPS was negatively affected in with and without lymphedema postmastectomy patients compared to healthy controls. This result emphasizes the importance of adding personalized methods for the restoration of joint position sense in addition to rehabilitation programs generally applied to the patient group.
