RESUMO

Jean Watson developed, in the United States, a conceptual model of nursing based on caring. A term sometimes translated as "to care" without properly reflecting what the concept entails. This theory has been adopted in many countries. Some authors report that it brings satisfaction to students, nurses, and managers of health facilities. Based on Watson's work, Chantal Cara built the humanist model of nursing at Montreal University. The aim of the project is to improve the well-being of patients and caregivers. It is likely to retain existing nurses and attract the next generation to the institutions which implement it.

RESUMO

Appointed Director General of the International Council of Nurses (ICN) in February 2019, Howard Catton is committed to ensuring that the ICN can effectively represent nursing around the world. He firmly believes that nurses must be at the heart of health policy decisions. With a nursing diploma and a master's degree in labor relations, he held a number of nursing positions in England and the United States before joining the New Zealand Nurses Organisation. For ten years, he directed the political and international affairs of the UK's Royal College of Nursing, then led ICN's action during the Covid-19 pandemic, while positioning himself in favor of protecting and investing in the nursing profession.

RESUMO

For the past three years, the Institut de formation interhospitalier Théodore-Simon (Ifits) has been embarking on a magnificent adventure to meet its student nurses, collecting their words and testimonials in a series of podcasts, the main aim of which is to shed as much light as possible on the reality of nursing studies. This article retraces the genesis of the project and demonstrates the added value of this tool for future professionals and trainers alike.

RESUMO

Safety during drug administration remains a major concern in nursing, particularly when it comes to calculating doses. The Institut et Haute école de la santé La Source in Lausanne, in partnership with the Avatarion company, has set up a co-development project using the humanoid robot Pepper as an assistant for double-checking dose calculations. Feedback from test users has been positive, although there is room for improvement.

RESUMO

This article is the shared experience of six student nurses. They look back on their health service experience and explain how their decision to create an escape game for 5th graders was a unique and enriching experience for both the students and themselves. In particular, it enabled them to develop a number of skills that were extremely useful in building their professional identity.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study explored the impact of theoretical and practical teaching on electro convulsive therapy (ECT) on medical and nursing students' stigmatizing attitudes towards ECT and representations of it. METHOD: Fourth-year medical students and nursing students answered questions from the Questionnaire on Attitudes and Knowledge of ECT (QuAKE) and from the Mental Illness: Clinicians' Attitudes version 2 (MICA v2) scale. The questionnaires were completed before and after observing a 3-hour practical training session in the ECT unit. The endpoint was the impact of practical training as assessed by MICA and QuAKE scores. Multivariate analyses were used to explore the impact of practical training on MICA and QuAKE total scores. RESULTS: Stigmatizing attitudes and representations of both medical and nursing students towards ECT were reduced after practical training (ß=-4.43 [95% CI -6.15; -2.70] p=0.0001). The impact was greater in medical students (ß=-8.03; 95% CI [-10.71; -5.43], P=0.0001) than in nursing students (ß=-2.77; 95% CI [-4.98; to 0.44], P=0.02). Gender, psychiatric history in close persons, and having already followed a psychiatric/ECT course had no independent impact on stigmatizing attitudes towards ECT and representations of it. CONCLUSION: Practical training in ECT should be given to all health professionals to improve access to it.

RESUMO

The restrictive measures taken by nursing homes during the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 (e.g., quarantine) may have been important stressors for which residents needed resilience to safeguard their well-being. Based on 30 semi-structured interviews with nursing home residents and close relatives, this study explored the lived experiences with respect to the restrictive measures. The data were collected in psychogeriatric, somatic, and mixed wards in The Netherlands and Flanders, Belgium. The restrictive measures were important stressors for residents, indicated by feelings of loneliness, sadness, and powerlessness. To deal with these measures, residents used various resources, which were determined by factors in the individual (e.g., health), interactional (e.g., possibilities for social interactions) and contextual (e.g. nursing home policy) domains. Because the lived experiences with respect to the restrictive measures seemed to relate to the resilience of nursing home residents, it is crucial to reinforce resources in the individual, interactional, and contextual domains.

RESUMO

A study of health students at the Université de Bretagne Occidentale showed that nursing students smoked more than those in other fields. The present study of health students in the same city shows that, conversely, students in nursing training institutes (Ifsi) consumed less alcohol.

RESUMO

In anorexia nervosa, physical and psychological vulnerability confines the sufferer to the confines of his or her pathology. The physical body is the first victim of undernutrition, but also the first resource for restoring the psychic and emotional body. Reduced food intake has repercussions on cognition and affect, all of which affect relational capacities. Accompanying, understanding and caring for people means reaching out to them and their bodies, to re-establish the link between what has been broken, and to establish a relationship of trust with them.

RESUMO

Tutoring involves a commitment on the part of tutors to welcoming, teaching and supporting student nurses. Tutoring plays a central role in our orthopedic surgery department, and we make it a priority. Its operation evolves according to needs, changes in tutors, student levels and the expectations of the nursing training institute. Our constant commitment to tutoring reflects our awareness of the need to support our future colleagues. Drawing on our various backgrounds and experiences, we felt it necessary to review the way we supervise ISTs and carry out our role as tutors.

RESUMO

In the context of the universitarization of paramedical professions, the call for experimental projects provided for in the law of July 22, 2013 on higher education and research and the decree of April 26, 2022, many projects have emerged with the aim of strengthening exchanges between training courses in the health professions and encouraging the emergence of innovative courses for nursing students. Two of these projects are underway at the University of Paris-Est Créteil.

RESUMO

The concept of holism remains difficult to grasp and to teach because of its polysemous nature. In the current reflections on the construction of nursing curricula, it seems necessary to propose some reference points in the meaning given to this widely used but little conceptualized notion. Nursing shares a unique and holistic view of patients, yet nursing education, rooted in the substance of nursing, remains undefined. Drawing on the work of English-language theorist Hesook Suzie Kim, this article explains part of her model of nursing practice analysis. This model is composed of four distinct domains that address the need to identify the holistic dimension of nursing knowledge to be taught.

RESUMO

Nursing students are confronted with the mysteries of the patient encounter during their internship in psychiatry. From this discovery, questions and enigmas remain to be solved. This ephemeral primary relationship, in a time span of a few weeks, is a source of frustration for them. In this context, the presence and professionalism of the team are precious assets that the student must seize. Discovery of the profession of psychiatric nurse illustrated by the testimonies of two students.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Pro re nata are frequent in psychiatry. The risks engendered by this treatment requires that their prescription and administration be made safer. The frequency of administration of pro re nata depends mainly on the nurse's clinical judgment. AIMS: Our first objective was to assess nurses' satisfaction about the quality of doctors' pro re nata prescriptions. Our second objective was to assess the nurses' self-reported practices for administering pro re nata treatments as written in the prescription. METHOD: Self-administered questionnaires were sent by the hospital's internal mail between November 13, 2014, and December 10, 2014 to all nurses in our psychiatric establishment in France. The questionnaire included multiple-choice questions and questions based on clinical vignettes. RESULTS: The response rate was 51.9% (124/239). Overall, 75.6% considered that the quality of the prescriptions in terms of dosage was satisfactory. However, regardless of the quality of the doctor's pro re nata prescription, nurses did not contact the doctor even when the prescription quality was poor. Unexpectedly, we found that 88.7% have administered medication "as needed" without a doctor's prescription and sometimes acted without consulting doctors. CONCLUSIONS: The nurses appeared globally satisfied with doctors' prescriptions of pro re nata medications. On the other hand, most administered some medications without any prescription, that is, illegally. Physicians must be rigorous in the quality of their PRN prescriptions. At the same time, nurses must comply with the medical prescription or contact the physician if the quality of the PRN prescription appears poor.

This article aims to present an overview of nursing research in France. To this end, it will be structured according to three main themes: research activity based on 3 original studies, the promotion of research, and knowledge management and transfer. In France, the challenges of nursing research are rich and varied but must give rise to several points of reflection. While there are more and more French nurse researchers, research themes are still mainly influenced by research funding. In addition, they are also chosen according to the researcher's personal interests. Finally, the gap between theory and practice exists as in all countries and the reinvestment of research into practice seems to be a general problem. It seems that universitarisation and in particular the creation of dual membership positions should undoubtedly help to reduce this gap between theory and practice.(AU)

RESUMO

Is starting a nursing career by choosing to work in the psychiatric sector a matter of audacity, curiosity, opportunity or, more likely, choice? Two nurses at the end of their third year at the nursing training institute in Laxou (54), Manon Casucci, 30, and Mélusine Leh-Baroncini, 44, testify. Both in retraining, they bring an already clear and objective vision of their future professionals in psychiatry, all tinged with an optimistic spirit that we can believe is contagious. Crossed interview.

RESUMO

Interprofessional Training for Discharge Planning: Effects of Self-Efficacy in Nursing and Medical Students Abstract. Concordant and methodical briefing about a patient's disposition for discharge from hospital within the interprofessional ward round can facilitate a timely discharge. However, interprofessional ward rounds require not only professional skills but also knowledge of interprofessional cooperation between all the occupational groups involved. The question arose whether students of the various professions could learn the necessary competencies during their studies. To this end, a training course on interprofessional discharge planning was developed for nursing and medical students. The training includes four phases consisting of flipped classroom and interprofessional skills training. After each phase, a questionnaire was distributed to assess the self-efficacy of participating nursing and medical students regarding their interprofessional collaboration skills. The results showed that self-efficacy increased steadily with increasing study duration from phase 1 to 4. The study also shows that despite the differences between nursing and medical school curricula, students' self-efficacy regarding interprofessional collaboration skills increased during the IAVI training, which strongly suggests that they benefited from the training.

RESUMO

Born in 1945 in the United States, the activity of home hospitalization (HH) did not stop developing in France after the 1950s. However, it was not recognized by the regulatory authorities and supervisory bodies until 1970. HH allows patients suffering from serious acute or chronic pathologies to continue to benefit seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day, at home, from technical and complex, frequent and coordinated care, inaccessible to city care. It is a central health policy issue in patient care.
