RESUMO

Linearity and intermodulation distortion are very crucial parameters for RFICs design. Therefore, in this work, a detailed comparative analysis on linearity and intermodulation distortion of single metal (SMG) and double metal (DMG) double gate junction less transistor (JLT) is done using TCAD silvaco suite. Furthermore, the effects of temperature fluctuation, gate length variation, and gate material engineering on the linearity performance of both devices are also studied. A few significant figures of merit, including Voltage Intercept Point 2 (VIP2), Voltage Intercept Point 3 (VIP3), Third Order Intercept Power (IIP3), 1 dB Compression Point (P1dB), Third Order Intermodulation Distortion (IMD3), and the transconductance derivative parameters First Order Transconductance (gm1), Second Order Transconductance (gm2), and Third Order Transconductance (gm3) are used to assess the device linearity and intermodulation distortion of SMG and DMG JLT's. The findings show that higher VIP2, VIP3, IIP3, 1-dB compression point and lower gm3, IMD3 values are obtained for the SMG JLT device when compared to its counterpart DMG JLT. SMG JLT, which assures strong linearity and low distortion.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the effects of Shugan Tiaoshen (regulating liver and harmonizing spirit) intradermal needling protocol on the attentional networks of patients with subthreshold depression using the attention network test (ANT). METHODS: Eighty patients with subthreshold depression were randomly divided into an intradermal needling group (40 cases) and a sham needling group (40 cases, 2 cases dropped out), with an additional 43 healthy subjects as a normal group. The intradermal needling group received intradermal needling treatment, while the sham needling group received sham intradermal needling, with the needle tip not penetrating the skin. The bilateral Xinshu (BL 15), Ganshu (BL 18), Shentang (BL 44) as well as auricular points Xin (CO15) and Gan (CO12) were selected alternately. Treatments were administered twice a week for a total of 6 weeks in the two groups. The patient health questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD-7) scores were observed before treatment, after 3 weeks of treatment, after treatment, and at 1 month after the end of treatment (follow-up), and the ANT of the two groups of patients with subthreshold depression before and after treatment as well as the normal group of healthy subjects was compared. RESULTS: The PHQ-9 and GAD-7 scores of the patients with subthreshold depression were decreased after 3 weeks of treatment, after treatment, and in follow-up in the two groups (P<0.05), the differences in PHQ-9 and GAD-7 scores before and after treatment were greater in the intradermal needling group than those in the sham needling group (P<0.01). Before treatment, the executive control network reaction time of the subthreshold depression group (the intradermal needling group and the sham needling group) was higher than that of the normal group (P<0.05). Compared before treatment, the executive control network reaction time of the patients in the intradermal needling group and the sham needling group was decreased after treatment (P<0.05), and the alerting network reaction time of the intradermal needling group was increased after treatment (P<0.05); the difference in alerting network reaction time before and after treatment was greater in the intradermal needling group than that of the sham needling group (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Regulating liver and harmonizing spirit intradermal needling protocol could effectively improve depressive and anxious symptoms in patients with subthreshold depression, and enhance the efficiency of the alerting network.

The switching of conventional field-effect transistors (FETs) is limited by the Boltzmann barrier of thermionic emission, which prevents the realization of low-power electronics. In order to overcome this limitation, among others, unconventional device geometry with a ferroelectric/dielectric insulator stack has been proposed to demonstrate stable negative-capacitance behavior. Here, the switching of the ferroelectric layer behaves like a step-up amplifier and results in a body factor less than 1. This implies a larger change in the semiconductor surface potential compared to the applied gate voltage variation. The transistors with such ferroelectric/dielectric stack are known as negative-capacitance field-effect transistors (nc-FETs), and can demonstrate a subthreshold slope lower than the Boltzmann's limit (60 mV/decade). While nc-FETs have typically been realized with high-vacuum-deposition processes, here we show fully printed nc-FETs with amorphous indium-gallium-zinc oxide (a-IGZO) as the semiconductor material, Al2O3 as the dielectric, and poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) (PVDF-TrFE) as the polymer ferroelectric. The printed nc-FETs demonstrate an extremely low subthreshold slope of ∼2.3 mV/decade at room temperature, which remains below the Boltzmann's limit for over 5 orders of magnitude of drain currents. Furthermore, the unipolar depletion-load-type inverters fabricated using n-type nc-FETs have demonstrated an extraordinary signal gain of 2691.

Weak sensory noise acts on the nervous system and promotes sensory and motor functions. This phenomenon is called stochastic resonance and is expected to be applied for improving biological functions. This study investigated the effect of electrical stimulation on grip force adjustment ability. The coefficient of variation and absolute motor error in grip force was measured during a visuomotor tracking task under different intensities of somatosensory noise. Depending on the style of force exertion, the grip movement used in the visuomotor tracking task consisted of force generation (FG), force relaxation (FR), and constant contraction (Constant) phases. The subthreshold condition resulted in significantly lower coefficient of variation in the Constant phase and motor errors in the FG and Constant phases than the no-noise condition. However, the differences among the other conditions were insignificant. Additionally, we examined the correlation between the motor error in the condition without electrical stimulation and the change in motor error induced by subthreshold electrical stimulation. Significant negative correlations were observed in all FG, FR, and Constant phases. These results indicated that somatosensory noise had a strong effect on subjects with large motor errors and enhanced the grip force adjustment ability. By contrast, subjects with small motor errors had weak improvement in motor control. Although the effect of subthreshold noise varies depending on the individual differences, stochastic resonance is effective in improving motor control ability.

OBJECTIVE: As a prodromal stage to major depressive disorder (MDD), subthreshold depression (StD) has a higher prevalence in the population, resulting in a greater healthcare burden. StD individuals' current negative emotion could be moderated by attentional deployment. However, it remains unclear whether attentional deployment training can mitigate subsequent negative emotion in StD individuals. METHODS: Based on 160 participants, we combined decision task (Experiment 1, N = 69), eye-tracking (Experiment 2, N = 40), and EEG (Experiment 3, N = 51) techniques to investigate how one-week attentional deployment (gain-focus, GF) training modulated the emotional processing of negative stimulus and its underlying neural correlates in StD individuals. RESULTS: After one-week GF training, StD individuals significantly reduced the first fixation time and total fixation time on the negative part (missed opportunities) of decision outcome and showed a decrease in emotional sensitivity to missed opportunities. An increase in N1 and decrease in P3 and LPP (late positive potentials) amplitudes, as well as a decrease in alpha oscillation, were observed when StD individuals faced missed opportunities after training. Additionally, the extent of reduction in StD individuals' emotional sensitivity to missed opportunities could be significantly predicted by the degree of decrease in alpha oscillation. CONCLUSION: One-week attentional deployment training could modulate negative emotion in StD individuals and the degree of change in alpha oscillation might act as an objective indicator for the effectiveness of training. SIGNIFICANCE: Our study provides a convenient and effective approach to alleviate the negative emotion of StD individuals.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of subthreshold depression among Chinese college students and to explore the related factors. Methods: The research subjects were Chinese college students participating in the "2022 Psychology and Behavior Investigation of Chinese Residents (PBICR-2022)". Data on respondents' general characteristics, quality of life, perceived pressure, family communication, perceived social support, self-efficacy, and depression status were gathered. To investigate the association between each variable and the risk of subthreshold depression, statistical analyses, including chi-square tests and rank sum tests were conducted. Furthermore, a binary stepwise logistic regression was employed to establish the regression model of the factors related to subthreshold depression among Chinese college students. Results: A prevalence of subthreshold depression of about 39.7 % was found among the 8934 respondents. Logistic regression analysis revealed that respondents who are female, have chronic diseases, are in debt, experience significant impacts from epidemic control policies, have lower self-assessed quality of life, experience challenges in family communication, perceive lower social support, have lower self-efficacy, and feel higher perceived pressure are more likely to develop subthreshold depression compared to the control group. (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The prevalence rate of subthreshold depression among Chinese college students was found to be approximately 40 %. Female college students suffering from chronic diseases, with households in debt, greatly impacted by epidemic control policies, and experiencing high perceived stress, may be at risk for subthreshold depression among Chinese college students. On the other hand, strong family communication, perceived social support, and self-efficacy were identified as potential protective factors. In order to facilitate timely screening, diagnosis, and treatment of subthreshold depression in Chinese college students, it is crucial for the government, local communities, colleges, and families to prioritize the mental health of college students and implement targeted measures accordingly.

Nanosheet transistors are poised to become the preferred choice for the next generation of smaller-sized devices in the future. To address the future demand for high-performance and low-power computing applications, this study proposes a nanosheet structure with a vertically stacked design, featuring a high ION/IOFF ratio. This Nanosheet design is combined with an induced tunnel field-effect transistor. By utilizing SiGe with a carrier mobility three times that of Si and employing a line tunneling mechanism, the research successfully achieves superior Band to Band characteristics, resulting in improved switching behavior and a lower Subthreshold Swing (SS). Comparative studies were conducted on three TFET types: Nanosheet PIN TFET, Nanosheet Schottky iTFET, and Fin iTFET. Results show that the Nanosheet PIN TFET has a higher ION/IOFF ratio but poorer SSavg values at 47.63 mV/dec compared to the others. However, with a SiGe Body thickness of 3 nm, both Nanosheet iTFET and Fin iTFET exhibit higher ION/IOFF ratios and superior SSavg values at 17.64 mV/dec. These findings suggest the potential of Nanosheet iTFET and Fin iTFET for low-power, lower thermal budgets, and fast-switching applications.

Neurostimulation is an increasingly common treatment option for medically intractable epilepsy. SANTE (Stimulation of the Anterior Nucleus of the Thalamus for Epilepsy) and Responsive Neurostimulation (RNS) System are landmark neurostimulation trials that utilized either duty cycle or a responsive stimulation paradigm. A seizure-free outcome is rarely observed with responsive and duty cycle neurostimulation devices. Chronic subthreshold cortical stimulation (CSCS) is a promising treatment for adult drug-resistant epilepsy involving eloquent cortex and has demonstrated safety and efficacy. Herein, the authors describe the surgical technique as well as details of stimulation programming involved in CSCS placement to facilitate the adoption of this promising treatment. BACKGROUND: Intervention for older patients with cardiac disease and subthreshold depression (StD) may be an effective strategy to prevent the development of major depressive disorder. The subliminal priming with supraliminal reward stimulation (SPSRS) website developed by us is an advanced intervention that can improve depressive symptoms in individuals with StD by presenting positive word stimuli in videos. However, its efficacy for treating depressive symptoms in older patients with cardiac disease and StD has not been investigated. Here, we present a pilot randomized controlled trial protocol to investigate the preliminary efficacy of an intervention for older patients with cardiac disease with StD. METHODS: The study was designed as a single-center, open-label, pilot, randomized, parallel-group trial. The participants will include 30 older patients with cardiac disease and StD who are hospitalized in acute wards. The Experimental group received the SPSRS intervention (video viewing with positive word stimuli; n = 15) and the Control group will receive the YouTube intervention (video viewing without positive word stimuli; n = 15). In both groups, the intervention will be administered for 10 min per day, five times per week for 1 week. The primary outcome will be the change in the scores on the Japanese version of the Beck Depression Inventory-II at 1 week after the baseline assessment. The secondary outcomes will be the changes in the Specific Activity Scale, New York Heart Association functional classification, as well as grip strength at 1 week after the baseline assessment. DISCUSSION: This pilot randomized controlled trial will be the first to evaluate the SPSRS intervention for depressive symptoms in older patients with cardiac disease and StD who are admitted to acute wards. The results will provide tentative indications regarding the impact of the intervention on depressive symptoms among older patients with cardiac disease and StD who are admitted to acute wards, and will contribute to the planning of a full-scale study. The intertwining of space and time poses a significant scientific challenge, transcending disciplines from philosophy and physics to neuroscience. Deciphering neural coding, marked by its inherent spatial and temporal dimensions, has proven to be a complex task. In this paper, we present insights into temporal and spatial modes of neural coding and their intricate interplay, drawn from neuroscientific findings. We illustrate the conversion of a purely spatial input into the temporal form of a singular spike train, demonstrating storage, transmission to remote locations, and recall through spike bursts corresponding to Sharp Wave Ripples. Moreover, the converted temporal representation can be transformed back into a spatiotemporal pattern. The principles of the transformation process are illustrated using a simple feed-forward spiking neural network. The frequencies and phases of Subthreshold Membrane potential Oscillations play a pivotal role in this framework. The model offers insights into information multiplexing and phenomena such as stretching or compressing time of spike patterns.

Many functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies and presurgical mapping applications rely on mass-univariate inference with subsequent multiple comparison correction. Statistical results are frequently visualized as thresholded statistical maps. This approach has inherent limitations including the risk of drawing overly-selective conclusions based only on selective results passing such thresholds. This article gives an overview of both established and newly emerging scientific approaches to supplement such conventional analyses by incorporating information about subthreshold effects with the aim to improve interpretation of findings or leverage a wider array of information. Topics covered include neuroimaging data visualization, p-value histogram analysis and the related Higher Criticism approach for detecting rare and weak effects. Further examples from multivariate analyses and dedicated Bayesian approaches are provided.

In this research paper, a vertical tunnel field-effect transistor (TFET) structure containing a live metal strip and a material with low dielectric constant is designed, and its performance metrics are analyzed in detail. Low-k SiO2 is incorporated in the channel-drain region. A live molybdenum metal strip with low work function is placed in a high-k HfO2 layer in the source-channel region. The device is examined by the parameters I off, subthreshold swing, threshold voltage, and I on/I off ratio. The introduction of a live metal strip in the dielectric layer closer to the source-channel interface results in a minimum subthreshold slope and a good I on/I off ratio. The low-k material at the drain reduces the gate-to-drain capacitance. Both the SiO2 layer and the live metal strip show excellent leakage current reduction to 1.4 × 10-17 A/µm. The design provides a subthreshold swing of 5 mV/decade, which is an excellent improvement in TFETs, an on-current of 1.00 × 10-5 A/µm, an I on/I off ratio of 7.14 × 1011, and a threshold voltage of 0.28 V.

BACKGROUND: Disordered eating behaviors are prevalent among youngsters and highly associated with dysfunction in neurocognitive systems. We aimed to identify the potential changes in individuals with bulimia symptoms (sub-BN) to generate insights to understand developmental pathophysiology of bulimia nervosa. METHODS: We investigated group differences in terms of degree centrality (DC) and gray matter volume (GMV) among 145 undergraduates with bulimia symptoms and 140 matched control undergraduates, with the secondary analysis of the whole brain connectivity in these regions of interest showing differences in static functional connectivity (FC). RESULTS: The sub-BN group exhibited abnormalities of the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and right orbitofrontal cortex in both GMV and DC, and displayed decreased FC between these regions and the precuneus. We also observed that sub-BN presented with reduced FC between the calcarine and superior temporal gyrus, middle temporal gyrus and inferior parietal gyrus. Additionally, brain-behavioral associations suggest a distinct relationship between these FCs and psychopathological symptoms in sub-BN group. CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that individuals with bulimia symptoms present with aberrant neural patterns that mainly involved in cognitive control and reward processing, as well as attentional and self-referential processing, which could provide important insights into the pathology of BN.

INTRODUCTION: The interplay between influential factors and the incidence of subthreshold depression (SD) in young adults remains poorly understood. OBJECTIVES: This study sought to understand the dietary habits, gut microbiota composition, etc. among individuals with SD in young adults and to investigate their association with SD occurrence. METHODS: Employing a cross-sectional approach, 178 individuals with SD, aged 18-32 years, were matched with 114 healthy counterparts. SD status was evaluated using the Zung Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS), Zung Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Beck Depression Inventory 2nd version (BDI-II), the 17-item Hamilton Rating Scales of Depression (HAMD-17), and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Metagenomic sequencing was utilized to identify fecal microbial profiles. Dietary patterns were discerned via factor analysis of a 25-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Logistic regression analysis and mediation analysis were performed to explore the potential links between gut microbiota, dietary patterns, and incident SD. RESULTS: Data on dietary habits were available for 292 participants (mean [SD] age, 22.1 [2.9] years; 216 [73.9 %] female). Logistic regression analysis revealed that dietary patterns Ⅰ (odds ratio [OR], 0.34; 95 % CI, 0.15-0.75) and IV (OR, 0.39; 95 % CI, 0.17-0.86 and OR, 0.39; 95 % CI, 0.18-0.84) were associated with reduced risk of SD. Distinct microbial profiles were observed in young adults with SD, marked by increased microbial diversity and taxonomic alterations. Moreover, mediation analysis suggested Veillonella atypica as a potential mediator linking SDS or BDI-II scores with a healthy dietary pattern rich in bean products, coarse grains, nuts, fruits, mushrooms, and potatoes (ß = 0.25, 95 % CI: 0.02-0.78 and ß = 0.18, 95 % CI: 0.01-0.54). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings highlight the complex interplay between dietary patterns, gut microbiota, and the risk of developing SD in young adults, underscoring the potential for dietary interventions and microbiome modulation in mental health promotion.

In this study, we design and simulate a metal implanted dielectrically modulated tunneling field-effect transistor (MI-DMTFET). In the ambipolar conduction state, the proposed structure works as an efficient sensor for the detection of a wide range of biomolecules. A metal strip (MS) is implanted above the drain-channel junction in the gate dielectric to improve the alignment of band gaps. Therefore, with the help of implanted metal work function engineering, the tunneling barrier gets lowered, which in turn increases the ambipolar current. An optimum metal-strip implant work function of 4.85 eV and a length of 1.5 nm have resulted in significantly improved performance of the proposed device. It has been observed that when the biomolecules with varying dielectric constants and charge densities are captured in the nanogap cavity, the ambipolar current of the biosensor changes, resulting in the detection of the biomolecules. Quantitative and comprehensive analyses of device parameters such as surface potential, electric field, band-to-band tunneling, subthreshold slope, and ION/IOFF ratio analysis have been performed. Rigorous comparative analyses of key performance-measuring parameters have been performed with a conventional sensor device. It has been found that the proposed device offers maximum sensitivity of 1220 under an ambipolar state at k = 12.

OBJECTIVE: The increased amplitude of ictal activity is a common feature of epileptic seizures, but the determinants of this amplitude have not been identified. Clinically, ictal amplitudes are measured electrographically (using, e.g., electroencephalography, electrocorticography, and depth electrodes), but these methods do not enable the assessment of the activity of individual neurons. Population signal may increase from three potential sources: (1) increased synchrony (i.e., more coactive neurons); (2) altered active state, from bursts of action potentials and/or paroxysmal depolarizing shifts in membrane potential; and (3) altered subthreshold state, which includes all lower levels of activity. Here, we quantify the fraction of ictal signal from each source. METHODS: To identify the cellular determinants of the ictal signal, we measured single cell and population electrical activity and neuronal calcium levels via optical imaging of the genetically encoded calcium indicator (GECI) GCaMP. Spontaneous seizure activity was assessed with microendoscopy in an APP/PS1 mouse with focal cortical injury and via widefield imaging in the organotypic hippocampal slice cultures (OHSCs) model of posttraumatic epilepsy. Single cell calcium signals were linked to a range of electrical activities by performing simultaneous GECI-based calcium imaging and whole-cell patch-clamp recordings in spontaneously seizing OHSCs. Neuronal resolution calcium imaging of spontaneous seizures was then used to quantify the cellular contributions to population-level ictal signal. RESULTS: The seizure onset signal was primarily driven by increased subthreshold activity, consistent with either barrages of excitatory postsynaptic potentials or sustained membrane depolarization. Unsurprisingly, more neurons entered the active state as seizure activity progressed. However, the increasing fraction of active cells was primarily driven by synchronous reactivation and not from continued recruitment of new populations of neurons into the seizure. SIGNIFICANCE: This work provides a critical link between single neuron activity and population measures of seizure activity.

Imaging studies of subthreshold depression (StD) have reported structural and functional abnormalities in a variety of spatially diverse brain regions. However, there is no consensus among different studies. In the present study, we applied a multimodal meta-analytic approach, the Activation Likelihood Estimation (ALE), to test the hypothesis that StD exhibits spatially convergent structural and functional brain abnormalities compared to healthy controls. A total of 31 articles with 25 experiments were included, collectively representing 1001 subjects with StD. We found consistent differences between StD and healthy controls mainly in the left insula across studies with various neuroimaging methods. Further exploratory analyses found structural atrophy and decreased functional activities in the right pallidum and thalamus in StD, and abnormal spontaneous activity converged to the middle frontal gyrus. Coordinate-based meta-analysis found spatially convergent structural and functional impairments in StD. These findings provide novel insights for understanding the neural underpinnings of subthreshold depression and enlighten the potential targets for its early screening and therapeutic interventions in the future.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to examine the influence of subthreshold posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and full PTSD on quality of life following mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). METHODS: Participants were 734 service members and veterans (SMV) classified into two injury groups: uncomplicated mild TBI (MTBI; n = 596) and injured controls (IC, n = 139). Participants completed a battery of neurobehavioral measures, 12-or-more months post-injury, that included the PTSD Checklist Civilian version, Neurobehavioral Symptom Inventory, and select scales from the TBI-QOL and MPAI. The MTBI group was divided into three PTSD subgroups: No-PTSD (n = 266), Subthreshold PTSD (n = 139), and Full-PTSD (n = 190). RESULTS: There was a linear relationship between PTSD severity and neurobehavioral functioning/quality of life in the MTBI sample. As PTSD severity increased, significantly worse scores were found on 11 of the 12 measures (i.e. , MTBI: Full-PTSD > Sub-PTSD > No-PTSD). When considering the number of clinically elevated scores, a linear relationship between PTSD severity and neurobehavioral functioning/quality of life was again observed in the MTBI sample (e.g., 3-or-more elevated scores: Full-PTSD = 92.1 %, Sub-PTSD = 61.9 %, No-PTSD = 19.9 %). LIMITATIONS: Limitations included the use of a self-report measure to determine diagnostic status that may under/overcount or mischaracterize individuals. CONCLUSION: PTSD symptoms, whether at the level of diagnosable PTSD, or falling short of that because of the intensity or characterization of symptoms, have a significant negative impact on one's quality of life following MTBI. Clinicians' treatment targets should focus on the symptoms that are most troubling for an individual and the individual's perception of quality of life, regardless of the diagnosis itself.

BACKGROUND: The longitudinal course of late-life depression remains under-studied. AIMS: To describe transitions along the depression continuum in old age and to identify factors associated with specific transition patterns. METHOD: We analysed 15-year longitudinal data on 2745 dementia-free persons aged 60+ from the population-based Swedish National Study on Aging and Care in Kungsholmen. Depression (minor and major) was diagnosed according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, Text Revision; subsyndromal depression (SSD) was operationalised as the presence of ≥2 symptoms without depression. Multistate survival models were used to map depression transitions, including death, and to examine the association of psychosocial (social network, connection and support), lifestyle (smoking, alcohol consumption and physical activity) and clinical (somatic disease count) factors with transition patterns. RESULTS: Over the follow-up, 19.1% had ≥1 transitions across depressive states, while 6.5% had ≥2. Each additional somatic disease was associated with a higher hazard of progression from no depression (No Dep) to SSD (hazard ratio 1.09; 1.07-1.10) and depression (Dep) (hazard ratio 1.06; 1.04-1.08), but also with a lower recovery (HRSSD-No Dep 0.95; 0.93-0.97 [where 'HR' refers to 'hazard ratio']; HRDep-No Dep 0.96; 0.93-0.99). Physical activity was associated with an increased hazard of recovery to no depression from SSD (hazard ratio 1.49; 1.28-1.73) and depression (hazard ratio 1.20; 1.00-1.44), while a richer social network was associated with both higher recovery from (HRSSD-No Dep 1.44; 1.26-1.66; HRDep-No Dep 1.51; 1.34-1.71) and lower progression hazards to a worse depressive state (HRNo Dep-SSD 0.81; 0.70-0.94; HRNo Dep-Dep 0.58; 0.46-0.73; HRSSD-Dep 0.66; 0.44-0.98). CONCLUSIONS: Older people may present with heterogeneous depressive trajectories. Targeting the accumulation of somatic diseases and enhancing social interactions may be appropriate for both depression prevention and burden reduction, while promoting physical activity may primarily benefit recovery from depressive disorders.

Social comparison is a common phenomenon in our daily life, through which people get to know themselves, and plays an important role in depression. In this study, event-related potential (ERP) was used to explore the temporal course of social comparison processing in the subthreshold depression group. Electrophysiological recordings were acquired from 30 subthreshold depressed individuals and 31 healthy individuals while they conducted the adapted dot estimation task. The ERP results revealed that there was a significant difference of feedback-related negativity (FRN) in the process of social comparison. Especially only in the subthreshold depression, the FRN amplitudes of worse off than some, better off than many comparisons were larger than those of upward comparisons and downward comparisons. Our results suggested that the abnormal reward sensitivity for worse off than some, better off than many comparisons might be prodromal symptoms in the subthreshold depression.
