RESUMO

To evaluate the performance of online teaching during the COVID-19 period, we collected 1886 survey data from college students in Hubei Province, China. The scoring rules of the Framework for Teaching were used to measure college students' satisfaction with online teaching, and an econometric model was constructed to empirically validate its dynamic influences. We found that college students' satisfaction with online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic was lower than that with offline teaching. Online teaching satisfaction was significantly affected by variables of class size, proportion of online teaching, epidemic severity, college grade, network, course classification, major classification, and the teacher's age and skills. It was further found that as COVID-19 gradually dissipated, offline teaching should be resumed as soon as possible. These findings objectively evaluate the teaching performance of college students during the COVID-19 pandemic and can provide suggestions for optimizing online teaching during future emergencies.

RESUMO

Mental health promotion has been gaining recognition as an important teacher competency. Hence, it is imperative that teachers have adequate mental health literacy (MHL). However, most studies and programs on teacher MHL focus on teachers' knowledge of mental disorders, whereas very few have explored their knowledge of positive mental health, perhaps due to the lack of measures for this construct. In this study, we adapted and validated the Mental Health-Promoting Knowledge Scale (MHPKS), a measure of positive MHL, for teachers. We looked into its factor structure and examined its relationships with knowledge of mental disorders, and mental health and teaching-related outcomes. The sample included 470 Filipino preservice teachers. Results of the confirmatory factor analysis provided support for the single-factor model of the MHPKS. Positive MHL was found to be positively associated with knowledge of mental disorders, well-being, teaching engagement, and teaching satisfaction. It predicted well-being, teaching engagement, and teaching satisfaction above and beyond the variance accounted for by knowledge of mental disorders, indicating construct validity. MHPKS is a valid tool that can be used to complement measures of knowledge of mental disorders for a more holistic assessment of teacher mental health knowledge.

RESUMO

The objective of this study was to investigate online learning satisfaction in a sample of university students and its relationship with depression, anxiety, insomnia, and the average number of hours spent online. A total of 463 medical students were recruited for an online survey conducted from February to March 2022 with the main objective of estimating online learning satisfaction, while secondary outcomes involved assessing the relationship between online learning and depression, anxiety, insomnia, and the average number of hours spent online. A total of 285 participants were female (71.4%) and the mean age was 20.2 years. The results revealed that depression, anxiety, and insomnia are negatively correlated with overall satisfaction with e-learning. The more time students spent online, the greater the overall satisfaction. There are significant differences regarding student perceptions of interactivity in online learning satisfaction outcomes (p < 0.05, η2 partial Eta Squared-0.284). The opportunity to learn via chat-box presented differences in overall satisfaction while pleasant aspects of online learning, such as "no travel" and "economy", were related to satisfaction. The students revealed that the higher the psychopathology scores, the less satisfied they were with online learning, while a higher number of hours spent online contributed positively to satisfaction.

RESUMO

This study aims at investigating the predictive effects of online teaching readiness factors on instructors' satisfaction and confidence in the emergency online teaching context. The target population is instructors who experienced online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in South Korea. Two hundred and thirteen instructors from 15 universities in South Korea responded to a survey asking about online teaching readiness (technological, pedagogical, online communication, time and environment management, and institutional support readiness), satisfaction, and confidence. Hierarchical regression analysis showed that pedagogical and online communication readiness have significant positive effects on both satisfaction and confidence, while showing lower means than other online teaching readiness sub-categories. This research concludes that specific strategies and skills for pedagogical and online communication readiness have to be stressed in professional development programs for online teaching.

RESUMO

The current study examines the potential mediating role of professional identification of school teachers in the relationship between psychological distress and teaching satisfaction. Professional identification is the extent to which an individual identifies with a professional group, including the values, beliefs, and commitment the individual has in relation to the professional group. Professional identification has been linked to negative work outcomes, such as job performance and turnover intentions, as well as to adverse mental health outcomes. In the context of education, professional identification is the extent to which teachers identify with the teaching profession. Participants (N = 355) were school teachers in South Africa who completed the Center for Epidemiological Depression Scale, the Beck Hopelessness Scale, the Professional Identification Scale, and the Teaching Satisfaction Scale. Structural equation analysis showed that professional identification plays a fully mediational role in the relationship between psychological distress and teaching satisfaction. Interventions that strengthen teachers' identification with the teaching profession should be considered a priority.

RESUMO

The growth of online education requires high-quality online teaching. Teachers' satisfaction with online teaching is of great significance for improving online teaching effectiveness. This study was to explore the primary school teachers' online teaching satisfaction during the spread of COVID-19 from Shanghai, who have experienced online teaching, and explore whether there were differences of teachers' online teaching satisfaction in subject and educational level. 939 teachers from Shanghai participated in the study. The non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test of variance were performed. Results showed that teachers' online teaching satisfaction was at a high level. Moreover, there was a significant difference in teachers' subject and educational level on online teaching satisfaction. In terms of subject differences of teachers, there were significant differences in resource suitability (RS) among teachers of different subjects. Therefore, it is recommended that each subject should develop the online teaching resources to support teachers' online teaching. In terms of the differences in teachers' educational levels, there were no significant differences between the satisfaction of college-level teachers on non-technical variables such as content selectivity (CS) and teachers with undergraduate and graduate degrees, and only on technical variables such as self-efficacy (SE), resource suitability (RS), ease of use (EU), and intention to use (IU). Given the national context in China, the difference in educational levels may be more reflected in the age of the teachers. For teachers with college educational level, due to their older age, rather than simply enhancing motivation and improving learning ability to increase online teaching satisfaction, emphasis should be placed on providing appropriate teaching service support to help improve online teaching effectiveness. The findings provide new empirical evidence, strategies and Chinese experience for promoting teachers' online teaching satisfaction.

RESUMO

In early 2020, school closures were implemented globally to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. In South Africa, emergency remote teaching was not sustainable, and conventional teaching resumed in the context of the second and third waves of the pandemic, heightening fear and anxiety about infection among teachers. The pandemic necessitated shifts in the scope of a teacher's job, potentially impacting their professional identity and job satisfaction. This study investigated the interrelationship between teaching identification, teaching satisfaction, fear of COVID-19 and perceived vulnerability to disease among a sample of South African school teachers (n = 355). A serial mediation analysis supported the hypotheses that teaching identification mediated both the relationship between fear of COVID-19 and teacher satisfaction and the association between perceived vulnerability to disease, fear of COVID-19 and teacher satisfaction. The findings suggest that teacher identification is a potential protective factor, and strengthening professional identification can potentially assist teachers as they negotiate the uncertainty and stress associated with the current pandemic.

RESUMO

This study investigated the relationships between university EFL teachers' perceived teaching support, teacher innovation, and teaching satisfaction in online teaching environments, especially the mediating role of teaching efficacy. The results of an online questionnaire survey with 473 university EFL teachers revealed that although online peer support did not directly make any difference to teacher innovation and teaching satisfaction, greater perceived support in the form of teaching resources and teaching autonomy improved university EFL teachers' online teaching satisfaction. Online teaching efficacy significantly mediated the relationships between teaching support and teacher innovation and satisfaction. The results offer significant implications for improving the effectiveness of EFL teaching and promoting university EFL teachers' innovation and satisfaction in online teaching environments.

RESUMO

The emotional aspects of teaching are important and teachers' emotional labor, or, how teachers manage emotions at school, has been attracting more and more attention recently. Using multi-group structural equation modeling, this study investigated the measurement invariance of, and the relationships between, teachers' emotional labor strategies and teaching satisfaction. Participants included teachers from primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong and mainland China. Three sets of group comparisons have been made between female and male teachers, between primary and secondary school teachers, and between teachers in Hong Kong and mainland China. The multi-group invariance tests showed no significant subgroup differences in the measurement and structural models. Thus, there was no difference of 'kind.' However, some differences of 'degree' were observed across genders, grade levels and regions. These differences in the relationship between surface/deep acting and teaching satisfaction can be attributed to the possible influence of some cognitive factors and socio-cultural contexts. With due methodological rigor, the results of this study provide deeper understanding of teachers' emotional labor and its relationship with teaching satisfaction.

RESUMO

Objective To explore the application of PBL in dermatology and venereology teaching. Method According to random principle, 120 students were divided into experimental group and control group (60 students per group). The experimental group received PBL, and the control group received tradi-tional teaching. The teaching contents included systemic lupus erythematosus, pemphigus, psoriasis, syphilis. The course needed 16 periods totally . the traditional teaching group applied 8 classes extensive class teaching and 8 classes clinical trainee, and the PBL teaching group implemented case-based teaching 4 hours each time. Teaching satisfaction evaluation and test scores would be analyzed at the end of the semester. SPSS 17.0 was used for t test. Results The teaching satisfaction (contains professional values and ethics, communication skills, clinical skills, community health and health systems, information management, critical mind and research, etc.) of experimental group was higher than control group (P<0.05); The test scores of experimental group was higher than control group (P<0.05), especially in total score of theoretical examina-tion, comprehension and application. The difference mainly came from PBL teaching (P<0.05). Conclusion PBL is conductive not only to the comprehension and application of knowledge but to training the students' abilities of independent learning.
