A historical contextualization of the Unified Social Assistance System (SUAS) will be presented by exploring the approaches with the Unified Health System (SUS). In doing so, its origins, similarities in its principles and in the main guidelines will be considered as well as the particularities of each policy. The article seeks to comprehend the importance of the Psychologist in the SUAS context, and to identify the potentiality of this professional in basic social protection at the Reference Center for Social Assistance (CRAS). Finally, the study explores the possibility of action based on Care, taking as a reference the technologies developed by Ayres: reception, bonding, accountability, and the possibility of (re)construction of identity based on the proposal to promote autonomy.

ABSTRACTWe examined ageist beliefs, attitudes, and knowledge towards sexuality in later life among 148 nursing students and 137 social work students in their first year of studies. The students completed the Fraboni Scale of Ageism, the Attitudes and Knowledge towards Older Adults' Sexuality Scale, and questionnaires regarding contact with older adults, prior sexual education, and socio-demographics. The results indicated that nursing students have more conservative attitudes towards older adults' sexuality. Ageist beliefs correlated positively with more conservative attitudes towards older adults' sexuality. These conservative attitudes 'were negatively correlated with knowledge about sexuality in later life. Older students have more knowledge about sexuality in later life and more permissive attitudes towards older adults' sexuality. Religious students have less knowledge, and more conservative attitudes, towards older adults' sexuality. Previous sexual education was not associated with the students' attitudes and knowledge towards older adults' sexuality. Implications for designing continuing education programs are discussed.

RESUMO

In the context of the humanitarian crisis of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, a team of young Lebanese social workers attempted to identify the most economically vulnerable people. These professionals have themselves sometimes been exposed to social and economic difficulties, having in their own past experienced war and deprivation. They were confronted with experiences of war, poverty, inter-community conflicts, the recollection of their own family trauma or guilt. Support in the form of psychological care was provided to them.

RESUMO

Within the second "Cancer plan" 2009-2013, the French national institute of cancer (INCa) recommended the implementation of programs dedicated to adolescents and youngs adults (AYA) with cancer. In this context and in parallel to the specific medical care developed for AYA, the Oscar-Lambret center created a psycho-social-educational team including among others a social worker (SW) and a special educational teacher (SET), offering multidisciplinary qualifications and views. The social approach, realized as a pair by SW-SET, takes into account every aspect of each AYA (family, academic, career/professional, personal, cultural aspects…). We expose the first 2 years' experience of this special program for AYA through diagnosis to remission time. For this period, 164 AYA were seen by the social professionals, with a total of 602 consultations in the unit. The number of these consultations depended on the needs of AYA and their family. Nevertheless, only 10 AYA required no further intervention (6.1 %). The study highlights that the social interventions are most frequently about scolarity, work and disability recognition. These 2 years of experience of the SW-SET team offered a way to reflect upon our values and our culture, and on the role of the social worker in a medical setting. Each AYA has a personal story, which affects significantly the way to overcome the challenges that come with the disease. Our findings underscore the need for AYA with cancer to have access to personalized supportive care, encouraging them in pursing their personal goals and rewarding themselves.
